It was the Pandamonium stage, specifically. The boss itself wasn't that bad but navigating the stage with the ride armor while trying to collect stuff and look for secrets was a paaaaain. Also, the intermission mini-game I tried over and over again but now I know it just keeps going until you are defeated so you can't really "win" that one. lol

Everything I've played since has been more reasonable for sure.

I've been marathoning MM games recently, I beat 1 through 11 and X1 through X7 already so I'm on quite the roll, lol.
