The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams

Oneiros Is Closing!

As much as we hate to, both Helina and I have talked things over and agree that closing the shop is something we must do.

IRL issues beyond school and work have taken us away for longer than we would have like already, and we both realize that we have a couple more years of tight-bound schedules and other things that have come up unexpectedly.

We want to thank everyone who has participated or shown interest in Oneiros for being absolutely amazing! We are going to miss you all, and you helped us fall in love with the shop and everything about it even more.

Current pet owners will be receiving a PM throughout today from the mule concerning whether or not they wish to keep their pets and receive their last stage/s, or receive a refund in gold. For those who keep the pet art, there will be further instructions in the pm so we can still give you a collaboration-style pet at their final stage, so be sure to make note of any ideas you have!

If you are currently a pet owner but do not have a journal, you may temporarily create one to get a basic idea of your dream and pet down, or you may simply pm these to the mule. Names and such will not be required, but we would still appreciate a general idea of your dream/nightmare to give your pet personality. If not, then you are completely allowed to give us a general personality description and long with appearance ideas.

Pet art will be released as it is finished, so some will have have art immediately ready, while others may have to wait a bit for Helina and Minty to get the art done for them. We are hoping (hopefully) to have all pet art done by the summer, but that may depend on schedules as well as workloads. Those who wish for refunds need only pop a pm in our inbox declaring so, and we will send a trade.

Currently, there is no time limit on making a decision, and if you know another owner who may not be around for various reasons right now, please feel free to pass the message on and be a mediator between us so we know we are doing things right.

We are going to miss everyone and hope to see you around again someday!

With love,
~Oneiros Staff

      General Rules
    • Follow the TOS and B/C guidelines.
    • Remember that these pets are RP-required! We are very understanding that life and issues can get in the way of this and we created the growth requirements with this in mind. We have the right to rehome your pet if you are inactive for more than six months without warning or after three days if you do not pay for a pet you have won.
    • Read the entire first page.
    • Don't steal the art/claim it as your own, etc
    • Check your drama at the door. Mentioning issues once in a while is fine – it's life. However, constantly dragging the thread down with it, is not recommended and we will ask you to stop if there are complaints.
    • Respect fellow thread goers and yourself. No hateful messages or posts (racism, etc) and no gossiping or complaining about other shops in this thread.
    • No reselling, rehoming, or giving away your pets. If you no longer wish to have your pet, pm the staff.
    • Do not pm the mule your questions. Ask any questions you may have in the thread..
    • The staff have the final say. If you don't like a decision that has been made, then you are free to leave.
    • Causing drama will result in being blacklisted. No graylist. You will be warned once and only once, and if the problem continues, you will be blacklisted, and any pets you owned will be either rehomed or, if they have reached the specter stage and beyond or are customs, will either become shop NPCs or deceased. The staff will not budge on this.
    • This does not mean you should not approach the shop owners if there is a problem you cannot solve on your own. This rule refers to blatant, unnecessary drama that brings others down and can be hurtful.

      RP Rules
    • Follow the Daisy Code
    • Anything can happen in dreams. We are playing by the honor system when it comes to threads that take place in the dream realms and would like to keep it that way. (Please consult our post below about magic in the waking world.)
    • We have no restrictions on how you rp or list your dream in the guild, so long as it is in English and we can understand it. We understand that not everyone's first language is English, but rp in l337 and similar formats is not something we prefer. If you are logging a private/IM rp, this rule is overlooked.
    • We have no restrictions or rules for your dreamer other than that they be no younger than seven years old (EDIT: As of 07/27, all Dreamers must now be at least in their mid-teens - a minimum of fifteen years old - due to an influx of child dreamers) and must be human without special gifts or powers (magic users, clairvoyance, etc).

Throughout the ages, people have attributed the existence of their dreams to many things. Some claim we dream as a way for our mind to sort out our stress in the subconscious, while others say it is a message sent to us by a loved one. Some see it as a way to understand ourselves, a spiritual journey, or even just a wild combination of thoughts we aren't even aware we have until we let down of the walls of the world's expectations. There are even claims that dreams are a window to another life.

They are all right in some way.

Everyone dreams, thus they all have the potential to become Dreamers. These people, by some means they don't understand at first, have dreams have become more. There is something sharp and realistic to what they dream, something that feels so real that the Dreamer that they aren't alone. The dream drains them, as if they're actually living out the events in those dreams, struggling to remember what it feels like to be awake.

On the other side of this struggle is the Oneroi, a spirit that inhabits a human's dream or nightmare. Oneiroi are sentient beings who are drawn to the potent visions of a person's dream or nightmare. Be it a strong emotion, sensation, or memory, the strength of that dream has what the Oneiroi needs to gain strength, growing more powerful as they take the energy of that dream and claim it for themselves regardless of the Dreamer's feelings on the matter.

But why do they need this strength, and what are the Dreamers to do about it? What's going on that can only be discovered when dreaming? Is there more to being chosen than a sense of emotion in a dream?

Perhaps it is time to find out.

Two types of spirits can be caught in the dream catchers: Reves and Nightmares. The taint of a Nightmare affects the dream catcher differently than a Reve, allowing you to see what spirit has been caught while you slept (what race your pet will be). However, the details of these dream spirits are revealed over time after the spirit has been caught and continues to co-exist with you within your dreams.

Neutral (Neither benevolent or chaotic, these creatures can be either Nightmare or Reve):
    • Fairies - The fairies in this shop follow the depcition of winged creatures, though there may be special event fae that differ from this.
    • Animal Hybrids (see Reve stages above for a gryphon hybrid example)
    • Elementals* - The embodiment of a natural element in a humanoid form. Some of these creatures may appear as hybrids, but are far stronger and more adept with potent magic.

      Nightmares:
    • Vampires – Known for their extremely pale skin and the need to drink the blood of others.
    • Dark Elves - Aptly named, Dark elves typically have black eyes and hair, along with dark gray to black skin.
    • Drow –Easily distinguished thanks to their red eyes and snowy white hair. Like Dark Elves, they have dark skin ranging from an ashen gray to ebony.
    • Demons – Usually known by their tails and horns that resemble a ram's. Most demons have markings of some variety.
    • Nephilim* - The embodiment of chaos, these are creatures drawn by and adept at wreaking havoc and destruction. They are easily differentiated from angels by the fact that their large feathered wings are black, rather than white.

      Reves:
    • Muses – Beings who inspire those around them, especially within the realm of the fine arts. Muses have no real defining physical traits other than that they seem ethereal and even translucent, even when they have fully developed.
    • Forest Elves – One of the most common sub-race of elves, Forest elves have the traditional pointed ears and tanned skin from living in the woodlands.
    • High Elves – Almost as widely known as their forest-dwelling kin, High Elves tend to have fairer skin and pointed ears. Like Forest elves, they can have a large variety of physical traits.
    • Angels – Sporting large wings with snowy white feathers, angels are believed to be guardians, though beliefs on whether they are apathetic or warm-hearted vary by culture.
    • Averial Elves* - A race of elves known for their large feathered wings; some of the more mischievous ones have even posed as angels to purposefully confuse others. Like all elves, they have pointed ears, but are more likely to have fair hair, skin, and eye colors.

*These races are rarer in the shop due to their extreme magical abilities.

Oneiros is a BC revolving around dream spirits. Reve are the spirits residing in and feeding off of positive dreams, while Nightmares live in and shape the more chaotic dreams they are named after. Oneiros is a BC shop selling pets that will grow through storytelling and interactions with others.

You play two characters when you are given your pet. The first is a character that you create – the Dreamer. Dreamers must be human and thus are bound to basic human abilities. Though this is a fantasy shop, the waking world takes place in our modern world, so mages, dark knights, etc, are not acceptable. Please put a small profile of your Dreamer in your pet's journal. Staff will look over these profiles and let you know if something needs to be changed to fit the shop setting.

An Oneroi is the illustrated pets offered at Oneiros. You are paying for art of the Oneiroi, not the Dreamer, who will become a minor character as your pet grows. After staff creates the thread for your pet's journal, it is your responsibility to create and keep up with it, and you must have a journal started before we can offer you the next pet stage.

    The Waking World

Dreamers live in or around the city of Seattle, Washington in the United States. They are all “normal” humans, meaning that they do not have any psychic gifts that might allow them insight into what is happening with their dreams or the cause behind them. That doesn't mean your character may not have a guess, or whether or not that guess is right. It is a means of keeping the journey of discovery even and fair for all. Sometimes, the most ordinary people are capable of the most extraordinary things.

That being said, your Dreamer is able to be any race, identity, or able/special needs that you desire.

By some means, word of a woman known as Granny Spiderlegs has come to your Dreamer's attention, and as the dream continues to get stronger and their energy becomes weaker, they must seek her out in order to function in the waking world. She holds the answers they seek, though Granny doesn't tell a Dreamer everything they need to know in one sitting.

A woman of mixed ethnicity, Granny's real name is usually never brought up in conversation. Her shop is located downtown, a small “New Age” shop, though that phrasing is misleading once you step inside. Most notable is her collection of dream catchers, though not all are for sale. A weathered catcher hangs on the back wall of shop, with those for sale beneath them. Some catchers, however, are hidden until she discovers a Dreamer.

      Places of Interest/Importance
    • Granny's Shop:Visits with Granny are typically staff rps and give your pet the ability to grow or to gain special abilities at later stages. Dreamers can almost always count on finding her in her shop in their time of need, but she is also seen about the downtown area from time to time.

    The Dream World

Home to the Oniroi, the Dream Realms were once as wild and free as the dreams that shaped them. It is unknown whether this world was created by human dreams or inspired them, though Oneiroi claim the latter.

However, not all dreams have affected the realms in a positive way. Over time, the wonder of this world has become warped, and different lands have become segregated, often by whether an Oneiroi is a Reve or Nightmare, though sometimes different lands are restricted to a single race. While roaming is possible and some Oneiroi make no land their home, it isn't always recommended. Most lands support or allow all types of Oneiroi, but some lands favor the powers of Nightmares over Reves and vice-versa. Still others, like the Nephilim, make their own homes away from gatherings or villages of other Oneiroi, preferring to remain solitary.

The use of human dreams has existed for centuries. These Oneiroi seek the strongest dreams they can find, feeding off of the emotion from within. Memory, symbolism, anything that makes the dream something special will offer more power, and it is these Oneiroi who find themselves bound to the human world as much as the Dream Realms.

While these Oneiroi are aware of the unrest in the Dream Realms, it is up to them on whether or not they tell their Dreamer anything about their world.

Stage One - Dream Catcher: You've acquired a dream catcher and have caught the spirit that has been haunting you. There's something strange about it, however, and it's difficult for you to look at it for long without feeling drained. Maybe you should take it back to the woman who gave you the dream catcher and see what she has to say?

    User Image User Image

Stage Two - Dream-Bound Catcher: You have spoken to the old woman, but she's informed you of something very special about your catcher. The catcher seems attached to you and reappears even when you try to get rid of it.

    User Image User Image

Stage Three – Poltergeist/Spirit: The spirit in your dreams has begun to take form. Though almost impossible to see if stared at straight on, you know it is there. Your dreams are becoming longer and more intense, leaving you to feel exhausted come morning. A pattern or theme has begun to appear in your dream and, when it ends, it is difficult to tell if you are awake or still dreaming.

At this stage, you may notice a voice or presence hovering in the back of your mind. Though you are still the only human to sense your spirit/poltergeist, they can be seen and sensed by all other Oneiroi that have reached this stage and beyond. An Oneiroi can attempt to meet others in the Dream Realm at this stage (currently closed), but it is only for brief periods of time since they are still heavily attached to their Dreamer

    User Image User Image

Stage Four – Specter: The dream spirit that has coexisted with you in your dreams to the point it has developed its own physical form and identity. At this stage, the spirit still requires its dreamer to survive, but it can be seen and interact with others, including other dreamers. At this stage, the specter shows the first signs of their abilities as dream spirits (see the "magic" post), but aren't necessarily able to control it well.

    User Image User Image

Stage Five– Nightmare/Reve: At this stage, your spirit has gained enough power and life energy to survive on its own in the world of the living. At this stage, they are able to create new dreams of their own (breed), fall in love, and experience life as physical being. Some may be thankful for how you've treated them, others may spite you depending on what you've done for them.

Stage Six – Night Terror/Lucid Dream: This is a special RP-Required Stage.

All pets have fully developed stages. Flatsales cost 35k, semi-customs are 60k, and basic full customs average between 100-200k.

    • Update your dream/nightmare post to reflect these changes, since the dream/nightmare is getting more intense with each stage.
    • One rp with any other dreamer (must have started while pet was a spirit/poltergeist and not before)

Please consult our thread in the guild about using dream magic in events that may involve combat, as well as how to handle situations where both Oneiroi are using magic.

Though Oneiroi are powerful beings, that power is theirs only as long as they are in the dream realms. Since the waking world requires paths of logic and physics, Oneiros' powers are limited.
The following is a summary of magic Oneiroi can use while in the waking world.

    User Image

In General: All oneiroi have the ability to enter and control dreams, but this particular magic allows them greater control and power within a dream. With these skills, Oneiroi are able to find their dreamers more easily should they become separated, and once they are free of their dreamer (stage five), this will allow them to locate and navigate dreams more easily.

Though the ability to enter the dream world is available at the specter stage, the oneiroi are able to travel further for longer periods of time as they grow older and are no longer dependent on their dreamer. In the Dream Realm, oneiros have more power and control over their powers.

All of the skills below are listed by rank of difficulty, with notes on improvements/changes that may occur as the oneiroi matures into later stages. Once an oneiroi has acquired a skill, they are able to use it even after they aren't at the stage anymore (ex: A Nightmare has the ability to gather information on a dream they are interested in, but are still able to identify if there is another oneiroi within, and if they are a friend or foe).

The following skills are available to Specter, Reve/Nightmare, and Lucid Dream stages.:

Dream Navigation: The Oneiroi becomes mature enough to leave their original dreamer behind. This skill allows them to navigate and locate dreams.

    • Specter: The Oneiroi are able to identify the basic alignment of any fellow Oneiroi, such as if they are a Reve/Nightmare or a friend/foe. At this stage, the Oneiroi is able to change their appearance within a dream, there will always be some way to tell who or what they are. Some part of their aspect or physical appearance will remain unchanged. Depending on the success of the attempt if they try to disguise themselves, this remaining trait may be blatantly obvious or require multiple examinations to identify them.

    • Reve/Nightmare: The oneiroi is able to divine information on the dream they are in touch with, as well as more specific details of any Reve/Nightmare that may reside within the dream. The Oneiroi can now use the dreams of people other than their keeper to enter the dream realm.

Dream Manipulation: This skill allows the daemon to manipulate an unoccupied dream however they wish, so long as their aspect is included in some way.

    • Specter: If looking for someone specific to manipulate, a specter must be able to see the person whose dream they are trying to control or have a possession of theirs to create a connection. (example: if the dreamer or their Oneiroi wanted to get revenge on someone who broke into their home, they would need to see if the thief dropped anything or left some hair behind.)

    • Reve/Nightmare: Oneiros are able to fully manipulate the dreams of others so long as they have seen or met the person before, though the victim may not have seen the Reve/Nightmare themselves.

Phantom Protection: An Oneiros is able to summon protection against an attack within the Dream Realm, with influence by their appearance and/or aspect. For combat, quality depends on success of the player's dice roll.

Dream Forging: The Oneirois is able to manifest any object from a dream and make it real. These items are usually the same as how they were used in the dream and will have hazy, fuzzy edges. This does not affect the item's quality or useability.

    • Specter: The Oneiroi can only create objects from the dream they currently are in, which last up to one week.

    • Reve/Nightmare: Any item that has been dreamed of within a year's time. Items can last up to one month.

    • Lucid Dream: Any object that has ever been dreamed, regardless of if the dreamer remembers having that dream. Items created at this stage can last for at least a year.

Dream Step: This ability is available only at the Reve/Nightmare stage and can only be acquired after a staff rp!

The Oneiroi is able to use dreams as gateways into the physical realm, allowing them to travel from one place in reality and physically manifest in another through the dreamer. Actual distance is traveled through the Dream Realms and the amount of time required to travel from one location to another can be improved through practice (and reaching stage six, the Lucid Dream stage).

    • Reve/Nightmare: The dreamer must be in REM sleep/dreaming and will take up to five minutes to reach their desired location. Hazy dreams or dreamers on the verge of waking present a danger to the Oneiroi as they can be cut off from their travels and wind up stranded in an unknown pocket of the dream realm, or worse.

    • Lucid Dream: The Oneiroi is able to travel from one location to the other instantly. They can induce a dreaming state for a short amount of time (depending on success) in order to reach their desired location quickly.

When an Oneiroi reaches the Reve/Nightmare stage, they are able to fully form in both worlds, so they are no longer dependent on their Dreamer to exist. If they have found another Oneiroi of interest, they may wish to one day have a child of their own. Luckily for them, this is possible.

Breedings for Oneiroi are not based on biological gender, so any pairing has the chance for a child.

Q: Is this shop RP required?
A: Though mentioned before, it bears repeating - yes. We created this shop to build a community focused on characters and roleplay, rather than just something to make your signature pretty. There will be journals set up for you to log your pets experiences, and some entries are required for pet growth.

Q: So what are these pets?
A: Reves and Nightmares are the spirits haunting a person's dreams and nightmares, respectively. They grow up to have an identity of their own and become part of the dream world, taking on a physical body in time. They need the energy and emotions of dreams to survive. As they become independent, they are able to wander the dream realms and are able to influence dreams with their aspect.

    Q: What do we get?
A: Most pets will start out at the dream catcher stage, though there are some who may appear at the “spirit” stage. The pets begin as a template, but they become personalized as your pet grows. The last stage, Lucid Dream, is a very special stage that only dedicated roleplaying customers will be able to achieve. Even if you do not reach the special stage, your opinions and pet's history count, and will be included when the stages are drawn.

Q: What is the “aspect” of a reve/nightmare?
A: The aspect is what defines your spirit. While the object caught in the dream catcher gives you an idea of what will be included in your pet's appearance, the aspect represents the type of dream that attracted them. However, it is only an outline, and part of the fun is getting to choose and show us how your pet would interpret that aspect.

For example, say you have a nightmare whose aspect is “arachnophobia.” While this does mean fear of spiders, you as a player can choose how that comes across for your spirit. Does it embody that fear? Do they have a lurking nature? Do they antagonize their dreamer, who is so terrified that they pull their feet up off the floor if they so much as see a spider out of the corner of their eye? How you chose to apply will help shape the pet's appearance as well when Helina draws their stages. After all, if you have a nightmare terrified of their own nature, they're going to appear more withdrawn than someone who is proud and thrives off of terrifying others through their aspect.

Q: Can my Dreamer remember their spirit/what they looked like when they were in the dream?
A: This depends in part on the dreamer. Just as some people remember dreams more vividly than others, the same can be said about dream spirits. It is impossible to know what they are or what they look like at the first stage, however. It is most likely you will remember their presence and appearance at the spirit/poltergeist stage, but recognizing their presence can happen as early as the bound catcher stage.

Q: Can anyone besides Dreamers see the spirits?
A: Outside of dreams, only Dreamers can see your Oneiroi until they have fully developed into Reves or Nightmares. At the Specter stage, Dreamers have seen their Oneiroi at least once, though some spirits may chose not to appear often or without reason.. However, other people can see simple signs of your spirit's presence, such as if they've moved something, etc.

Q: How many can I own?
A: You may own a maximum of two dream spirits at this time. When breeding becomes available, this number will be raised to three.

Q: Will there be cosplays in this shop?
A: Cosplay characters will not be accepted. However, pets based off of your own created characters are welcome.

    Q: How do I get a pet?
A: Through flatsale prompts and shop events.

Q: What about bribes? RL Money? Pet Trades?
A: We will never accept RL money in this shop. Bribes are not accepted at this time, as we want everyone to have a fair chance at a pet. Continual begging of attempting to guilt the shop owners counts as harassment or complaining will only leave you on the black list for repeated offenses..

    Q: How much does a Reve/Nightmare cost?
A: For flatsales with prompts, 35k. Semi-customs, 60k. Full customs are estimated at 100-200k.

Q: Will my Reve/Nightmare be rehomed if I become inactive?
A: Yes, but we understand that real life gets top priority. We will contact you if we notice you have become inactive for more than a month, then again at three months. If you are inactive for more than six months without discussing it with the staff, your pet will be belong to the shop and rehomed if possible.

Please try to post actively in the thread at least once every month. This doesn't have to be a lot, just something to let us know you are still with us and still interested: active chatting, casual rp, etc If you're not interested or are unable to remain a part of the community, let us know. That's okay, too.

Also! We reserve the right to rehome a pet if you do not pay within 72 hours after you have won them.

    Q: Can I co-own with someone?
A: No. The energy it takes to feed a nightmare or reve requires a lot of focus for them, so they need to reside in one dream at a time. Having a second owner would split the spirit's focus and they would not be able to manifest.

Q: Can Reves and Nightmares breed?
A: Yes, but not at this time.

Q: Can a Dreamer have more than one Reve/Nightmare?
A: Not at this time and never more than once. The energy that it takes to raise an Oneiroi and bring it into physical being is tremendous. Most can only handle this process once in their life.

Q: Can my pet be taken away?
A: Yes. This has been established since the beginning of the shop and will not change. We post this notice at least once at the beginning of an event/sale so that owners know this going into owning a pet. Oneirois is an RP-required shop. That being said, there are few participation requirements and the staff is quite flexible. However, we abide by the sixth month rule. This means a hiatus usually covers a six month span of time before we start counting your absence unless you give us an idea how long you will be away. You will receive a notice from the mule at the one, three, and sixth month mark. If we don't hear from you within two weeks of that six month notice, we will take your pet into shop custody if possible or, if not, either kill it or turn it into a brief NPC.

-Please- have someone pass along a notice to the mule or staff if you yourself cannot do so. We would prefer to know who they are, however, so keep that in mind. This is to protect owners against people who might otherwise try to mess things up for their ability to own pets/prank/whatever.

Q: But I have a really good reason why I wasn't around, even without notice!
A: If the pet has fallen into shop custody, please take it up with the staff via pm. Most likely, something can be worked out. We know life can be unforgiving or just plain hectic at times, so letting us know when you return will help in the long run. We're not going to pull your teeth for details, though; we know some of those reasons can be painful and/or private.

If your pet has been rehomed before your return, you will be eligible for another pet when the next event occurs/is happening.
