[The Dreamer; Fiona Cardinal] Dreamer Info
Name: Fiona Cardinal
Age: 13
Personality: She is shy and quiet, but very vibrant with her clothing, and when she speaks her eyes sparkle. She likes to read, and she's kind of nerdy. Still very much a child, she has the child-like sense of wonder full on, and she can be just as endearing or evil as any pre-teen. Fiona is very smart, and she enjoys having discussions with adults who are willing to take her seriously. She seems/acts older than she is, most people think she's at least 16, and she doesn't have many friends because she has a hard time getting along with children her own age, who are not as intellectually mature.
Appearance: Pretty much dresses like this avatar (kinda silly/random clothes, likes bright colors and things that make people look twice), sometimes wears glasses, hair color changes quite often, but she is most fond of pink/purple.
History: Being so young, Fiona doesn't have too much history. Her mother passed away when she was five, and her father didn't want to care for her, so he sent her to an orphanage, where she spent 5 years (to the age of ten), until she ran away and started living on her own on the streets. She doesn't usually get into trouble, and she is good at keeping herself safe, but sometimes she has a hard time. She sees other kids her age and wishes that she could go to school and have friends like them, but knows that without a family to take care of her, she won't ever live a normal life. She reads books at the library whenever she can, usually spending full days in there, especially when it's cold out. She finds books people throw out and keeps them in her little abandoned attic home. She often has dreams of having her own friend, or of finally having parents not love her.

[Once upon a dream...]
Fiona's Recurring Dream There was a huge open field, and the long, soft grass blew softly in the wind, wildflowers entwining with it as it rustled and rippled like waves on a body of water. There was an aura about the place that seemed almost too perfect to be true. It was surreal, but it was so vivid and real at the same time. Fiona was vibrating in her sleep as the images flashed through her fragile young mind. At least it was a dream tonight, and not a nightmare. The poor girl had been plagued with nightmares recently, and she sighed a happy sigh as the pleasant feelings of the field washed over her. She was deep into sleep.
There was a soft singing on the breeze, and the vision revealed a beautiful faerie woman, sitting atop a tree stump that was moss-covered and soft looking. The grass about it was lush as well as the rest of the field, and the wildflowers seemed to bloom in higher concentration. Fiona could feel herself moving toward the faerie, although she wasn't sure if the beautiful lady had noticed her. It was the faerie that was singing, to herself, looking down as she worked grass and flowers into a lovely braided crown. As she floated closer, the faerie looked up abruptly at the young girl, her eyes displayed surprise at first, then shifted to a kind glitter, as she smiled warmly and lifted a dainty arm to beckon to the child. The breeze played with her hair, and Fiona felt her face grow hot with embarrassment, as she hadn't been sure if the woman would see her. Now she felt put on the spot. She continued to move toward the faerie, and as she did so, the beautiful woman's smile seemed to grow brighter, and the flowers began to flourish, reaching softly toward the small girl with a soft humming.
"Come, child. Come and be seated with me, I have a gift for you, if you like." Beulah whispered softly, her hair fluttering in the breeze again, the flowers seeming to respond to her interaction with the elements.
Fiona moved closer still, and sat cross legged in the grass before the faerie. Fiona knew a lot about dreams from books she had read, and she figured that this must be a reeve, otherwise it would have been a nightmare…she was curious why this faerie had chosen to come to her, "Why have you brought me here?" She asked.
The faerie seemed taken aback for a moment, maybe she hadn't been expecting such a question from such a young child. She had been watching after Fiona, but not for very long, and she was still surprised by this act of curiosity. "My child…" she trailed off with a soft sigh, "I have come to you…brought you here, to look after you." Beulah spoke softly, and she raised from her seat atop the tree stump to sit beside the young girl in the grass. The flowers followed her as she re-seated herself, still humming softly. The breeze had quieted now, and the grass only waved gently, leaves rustling in the distance. "My name is Beulah." She said, "and I know you are Fiona. I've been looking out for you, but I wanted to offer myself…to be your companion and protector. I had to see you first, you understand." The beautiful woman was nervous to offer, for she had always wanted a child of her own, but had never been successful, and so she had spent a very long time searching for a child to accept her as a mother and protector. She turned to look down caringly at Fiona, but there was concern on her features as well.
Fiona stared up at Beulah curiously, trying to read her expression. Well, it had certainly been a straightforward and rather suitable answer to her question, and she was pretending to think carefully about her answer. In all reality, this was pretty much the day that young Fiona had been waiting for. She contemplated the beautiful faerie for a moment, looking her over and trying to observe every detail. Something of her knew she was dreaming, and although this felt so very real, she wanted to make sure she could wake up and remember everything about it. "Well, I'd like that." She whimpered softly, her eyes welling with tears slightly.
"Then it shall be…" Beulah trailed off into a whisper, and the breeze picked up again, the grass was rippling again as the breeze grew stronger, the flowers humming louder until there was so much noise Fiona could hardly bare it, and then it all went silent…and faded into white…Fiona began to feel restless and as she awoke, she rubbed her eyes in disbelief.
Had it been real?
Fiona's dream changes seasons each time she dreams it, though as Beulah comes to her more often, she dreams most of a winter's garden/field. It seems to be their most connected meeting place.
The dream has begun to change as Fiona and Beulah become more connected to each other, and Beulah's energy grows stronger...
The Dream Grows Stronger... Fiona had enjoyed a nice supper with her boss and his wife, homecooked stew with dumplings and plenty of cheese on the side. It was heavy, but it was perfect for the time of year, and the young barista was ever so grateful for everything her boss has done for her. She was happy to be working and more self-sufficient, she had never liked begging and busking- though she'd not really been much of a beggar anyways. The young girl had settled into bed, and having read a few chapters of her new book, she was laying comfortably snuggled in, with Beulah's catcher hung above her head, looking out for her as she drifted off to sleep...
She found herself in the field that had been the first dream...it had been the dream for a while, but now it was changing, and Beulah invited Fiona into her own home, as he powers grew stronger, and their connection flourished. Now, rather than the field, Fiona visited Beulah in the Frost Garden. She felt herself coming into the dream, and happily followed down the path through the trees that led from the open field, full of wildflowers and long, lush grasses. The bright-haired girl rushed along in her favourite dragon sweater through the path, for she knew what awaited her at the end, and she was always happy to see Beulah. She supposed that she had fallen into what some books she had read described most commonly as lucid dreaming. Or that's what it felt like anyways. She was aware that it was a dream, and Fiona was conscious of her actions and her words, rather than feeling as though she experienced them from the outside as she had with the first dreams. Beulah had told her herself that she had been growing still, and it was obvious in waking life anyways. Before Fiona reached the Frost Garden, the tell-tale humming that indicated Beulah was working on something fell upon her ears, and she took so much comfort in the fairie's sweet song; there was nothing that could wipe the smile off her still slightly-rounded face as she laid eyes upon her guardian, Beulah.
"Beulah!" She cries happily as she continues toward the beautiful fairie, happy to see her as her full form, rather than the fleeting flashes of her figure that came to her during the day. Of course, it was only Fiona that caught these glimpses, she was sure, but Beulah had pushed and pulled her toward interacting with other dreamers, and had helped her as much as she could to settle her life on her lonesome.
"Good evening, Fiona." The fairie spoke softly, outstretching her arms to embrace her cheerful ward, "I've got another gift for you..." Beulah trailed off with a wistful sigh. "Oh, but I wish to deliver it to you in physical, my lovely girl." She said as she brushed aside Fiona's brightly-colored hair, smiling softly at the girl.
Fiona blinked up at her curiously after releasing from the embrace, and she just smiled sweetly. Beulah was such a good friend and a caretaker to the young girl, and she was always happy for the dreams. They happened nearly every night now, and they had become more vivid as they grew stronger together. "You spoil me!" She giggled to Beulah, clasping her hands in front of herself and rocking to and fro on the balls of her feet. "I see your garden is blossoming again. It must be the change of seasons?" The girl observed, awaiting a response from her guardian. The garden around her absolutely was flourishing. There were plenty of new plants and flowers, it was almost as though the entire place had changed completely. Though this shift was a fairly common theme, and it certainly wasn't a bad thing.
Beulah took so kindly to her young charge, though she could see Fiona growing older, more mature, and more beautiful as the time passed. The fairie was becoming more powerful, of course, with the love and attention Fiona gave to her, and with her own careful guidance and advising of the young girl. It made her feel needed, and as though she had a real purpose now. Something to work for and that was what made her garden flourish, truthfully. "It is all your making, Fiona..." She said in her soft, ethereal voice, the words like music to the child's ears. Beulah had such a magical way of speaking that always seemed to entrance the girl. "As we grow together, and as your feelings change, my girl, that is how the garden grows and glows bright." She grinned down at the expressive youth. "You know, soon, I hope to be there for you in your waking life, child. I cannot wait until I can really take care of you." Beulah speaks softly again, in her enchanting way.
The fairie reached down beside where she'd been seated, humming, and paused for a moment. "Close your eyes, and put out your hands." She chimed, a big, sweet smile spreading across her features. Beulah had been working on this gift for weeks now, making sure it was perfect for the girl.
Fiona obliged, she trusted the fairie, and she was admittedly excited to learn what the gift was. Growing up, she had never had the privilege of receiving gifts. When she was very young, the orphanage had not indulged the children in such things, and since she had been on her own, there had been nobody that she was close enough to to indulge in such things, either. She stood, nearly wiggling with excitement as she awaited the gift with her hands out eagerly.
Beulah placed a soft, terracotta put in the girl's hands. Something she had created herself, and within it was a careful selection of flowers that sparkled and glittered as they caught the light- some of them seemed to be intricately crafted of frost themselves, and they were full of life and bloomed overflowing the edges of the pot. "Alright, Fiona, you can open your eyes, my girl." her words enticed the girl and her eyes flew open excitedly.
Fiona caught just a glimpse of the flowers, and she was jolted awake. She shook her head...the dreamcatcher was in her hand to replace the beautiful arrangement of flowers, and her features fell as she realized it was over. The dreams had been shorter as Beulah became more present in her day-to-day, and she longed to hold the gift that was offered to her. She truly hoped that it would indeed be soon that the beautiful fairie that had taken her into not only her beautiful Frost Garden, but her heart, would be able to give her the gift in the waking realm, as she had so openly longed for. The young girl felt as though tonight was going to be one of those where she was unable to get back to sleep for a while, and he mind reeled in thoughts of the splendour of the Frost Garden flourishing in the new season. As winter was setting in, Beulah was coming into her power, and Fiona grew along with her.
The bright-haired girl tugged at her blanket a little and fluffed up her pillows, reaching for her book to read some more, hoping to grow tired enough to fall back to sleep, and hopefully back into the garden. Soon...

[Those dreams remembered...]
Snowed In- Contest Entry for Frost Garden Catcher Snowed in. Well, at least Fiona was used to having to ration food and resources. She had tried to be helpful, but it seemed as though those that were older than her were less than willing to take advice from a kid her age, even if she had grown up pretty much on her own, and even lived on the streets. It was strange to be here, and she'd been very hesitant about everything for the last couple days, but it was nice to at least have a reasonably warm and comfortable place to be. The young girl had continued to dream of Beulah. At first, the beautiful fairy woman hadn't seemed real, but now she was becoming somewhat of a reoccurring dream, and Fiona had begun to feel a little more at ease. She had seen the woman in waking life just yesterday, just a fleeting glimpse of her, and Fiona felt as though it had been the spirit of the woman that had ruffled the pages of her book. She had tried to blame it on a draft, but she figured this place was fairly well insulated.
Fiona had been sitting thinking to herself for a while now in a quiet corner of the library the resort had, and she was beginning to think it might be better if she just stuck this out on her own. Again, it wasn't the first time, it was just what she was used to, and it seemed the easiest solution when older kids, and adults wouldn't take a thirteen year old seriously. She honestly didn't expect them to, quite frankly, and that was fine by her. At least there was a place to surround herself with books, and sometimes she could hear Beulah singing or humming close by, and it comforted her. The young girl had gotten into a bit of a fight with a boy who was likely about seventeen or eighteen over some food, and although she had surrendered it to him in good will, he had shoved her and called her names and threatened her. That was part of why she was hiding out in the library, and it wasn't too often that others came in there, so she was happy. She hadn't necessarily been scared, she just knew there was no reason to bother with him at all, and had simply tried to avoid what had happened anyways. Not everyone could be so wise for their age.
Beulah hadn't really bothered to leave Fiona much, as she'd been rather unimpressed by the reactions of the others to her new ward, and she wanted to be careful that Fiona was okay. Beulah wanted to be a mindful guardian to the young girl, for it had made her incredibly happy growing closer to this child. She knew that Fiona was certainly aware of her presence by now, though there was doubt at first of her existence, and it warmed her heart, so that everything around her seemed to glow. At least, in her eyes. It was getting easier for the fairy woman to interact with Fiona and her world, and she was glad for this capability, and vowed not to abuse it, but to use it to the best of her ability to care for and protect this beautiful young soul.
Fiona had been picking books about dreams off the shelves, and she had read nearly every one in the last day and a half. That was her biggest passion in life, reading and learning, and she was so positively thrilled to have this huge collection of nice books that she was free to go through. She wished they would be snowed in long enough that she could read every single one! The young girl was a bit of a prodigy of reading and remembering the information she read. She could retell any story perfectly, and nearly every single thing she ever read she could recall whenever she wanted to. It was certainly helpful in surviving on her own thus far, and it could only become more so the more she read. And it made Beulah happy to see that the child was so curious and so questioning, and so thirsty for knowledge. She had been around for a long time now, and sometimes the fairy had been discouraged by the lack of desire for knowledge in humans. Part of the reason she had waited so long and chosen so carefully her companion.
Fiona put down the book she had been reading and listened carefully for a moment, looking about. Beulah was sitting close by, she had been watching the girl read, and tending the plants around the library. There had been a bit of commotion outside in the corridors, and Fiona had merely looked up from her book a moment in intrigue, but she had no reason to go out there. She felt it was none of her concern, as she'd been basically outcasted, and was perfectly happy where she was holed up. She had been reading about dream spirits, and had wanted to try talking to Beulah, or convincing her to reveal herself in some way. "B-Beulah…" The young girl said quietly, looking around as she spoke the fairy's name. "You're here, right? Can you show me something you can do?" Fiona spoke more confidently as she went on, awaiting the response of her new guardian.
Beulah softly laughed, and she tucked her hair behind her ear as she stood from where she'd been sitting, going over to a large plant pot close to the young girl. As she bent to touch the soil, new flowers sprouted from the dirt, and she hummed softly so Fiona would hear. The child's eyes lighted as she watched the bright new flowers appear like magic. Well, it was magic…she blinked in surprise and then sighed happily. She stared at the plant for a moment, squinting a little, trying to catch a glimpse of the woman. A slight flicker was all she saw as the humming grew louder for a second, and then ceased. She needed to read more books, that was it…she was so close and she knew it.
Fiona stretched in the comfy chair she'd been curled up in and she stood and went to return the finished book to it's place. As she scanned the titles of the other books surrounding it that she hadn't yet pulled, she felt relieved for having found this little sanctuary amongst the chaos around her in the resort, and she knew she would at least be just fine until this mess was sorted.
She was perfectly content with books, the little bit of food she'd snuck, and her new guardian, who she knew was real for sure now, and was so close to revealing a physical form. Her new mother…she thought as she grabbed another book from the shelf.

- [Staff - FIN] A Second Visit (Granny x Fiona)
- [PRP] Bookworms of the world, UNITE! (Fiona&Eliaus) -Abandoned?
After the second visit to Granny's shop Fiona was quite thrilled to have decided to visit Granny Spiderlegs' shop again. After all the reading she had done about dreams, she had not figured it out, and although she had indeed learnt some valuable things from her reading, it had been the old woman that had really managed to hit the nail on the head. Though Fiona supposed that she had really known that in the back of her mind the whole time, it was still good to have it confirmed, and confirmed it was indeed, now. The old woman had re-woven Fiona's dreamcatcher gift, and now it included some beautiful beads and a pretty little purple flower in the weave, it felt as though the spirit of the beautiful faerie woman was growing stronger, the catcher had a glow to it, and it's energy seemed much stronger as well. Perhaps Beulah would become real some day, and Fiona desperately hoped so. She was happy that she continued to have mostly dreams of the beautiful Frost Garden in which she most often met Beulah now, and they had replaced her terrible nightmares once the dreamcatcher had been given to her.
When the young girl had arrived home, she was thrilled as well to discover that the contents of the small package Granny had given her before she left the shop was what looked like it could be a couple days' food. She had nearly cried when she opened it up. She didn't recall saying anything to Granny about her living on her own, but she figured that the old woman must know just about everything, judging from what Fiona had seen of her so far. She was grateful to know that there were some out there that wanted to care for her, and though she was so young, it felt like she had gone forever without anyone to really care for her. And maybe she had, until now. The fact that the beautiful faerie woman had come to her in a dream and said she wanted a child to care for and had called Fiona to her for that reason...well, it was pretty amazing in it's own, and now it had led the bright young girl to others who wanted to do the same. It was all coincidence, she thought. Not that she would dare complain.
Settling in to her small home for the night, Fiona took a bit of the food that Granny had sent off with her and put the rest away in a rickety drawer, and as she pulled her dreamcatcher from the inside pocket of her parka, then removed her parka and hung it on the door, she could feel warmth...or was it cold? The young girl couldn't really tell for a moment, until the catcher became very cold in her hands indeed, and she hung it above her tiny pile of old blankets where she always put it before bed. She placed it very carefully, so it wouldn't chance falling from it's place, and watched as the glow around it became brighter for a moment. Staring quizically at the catcher, Fiona finished what she had been eating, and then pulled on another hoodie she had gotten from the shelter, and went to curl up in bed. She had a book she'd taken from the library that day, and she intended to finish reading it, but not long after she had begun reading, she was asleep with the book against her chest, open to the page she had been last reading.
As the young girl fell deeper into dream-land, she approached again the same field as before. It was the Frost Garden again...she was somewhere aware of that, but not yet at the point of being knowledgeably in the dream. Fiona suspected it would be a while before she was able to control her dreams at all, let alone the dream that was seemingly controlled by the faerie woman. She watched as Beulah sang on her tree stump, and then felt herself moving toward the woman again.
Suddenly, there was a loud, resounding bang just outside her little shack, which scared her awake, and she ran to the door, unlocking it quietly and opening it a crack to peek out. It was nothing...
Fiona sighed and locked the door again, returning to her bed. As she stared at the door, she again drifted off to sleep...back to the Frost Garden. Would she remember Beulah's words in the morning?

- [PRP] This is getting overwhelming... [Fiona & Amelia]
The dream becomes more real, spirit more present... It had been a while since Fiona had visited Granny's shop. Been a while since she had owned the lovely dreamcatcher. She had taken good care of it, and it went everywhere with her now. The faerie had become much more present in Fiona's day-to-day life in much more than just remembered dreams and thoughts that mulled about through the day. She seemed to offer more suggestions and some of them more subtle than others. Fiona was alright with it though, as Beulah meant the best, and seemed to want to take care of her as best she could through the distance of consciousness between them. She was a voice in the back of Fiona's mind now, more than singing and humming and near-conversations in the dream.
Fiona felt more comfortable with herself, with the world around her, knowing Beulah was always there, and it almost seemed as though Beulah's energy and spirit were beginning to become more physical recently. This didn't bother the young girl, of course, but it was something that certainly needed some getting used to. She was a bit more restless through the night, and a little fatigued in the mornings and through the day. Luckily, she had managed to get herself a job at a nice, small coffee shop along the main drag, and so there was plenty of visitors through the day, mostly tourists and young adults, but it kept her busy and it kept food in her belly, which made Beulah happy. She loved her job at the coffee shop, it was a lovely little place with fancy, old, authentic machines, soft mismatched chairs and couches, antique tables, and shelves along the back wall filled with books old and new, traded, donated. Her boss was a kind, hard-working man, and he treated her well.
The enthusiastic and expressive young girl had met some other dreamers now, and she had enjoyed talking with them, though the conversations had been pretty limited so far. Beulah really pushed her into socializing with them, but she didn't mind. She trusted Beulah and appreciated and respected her indications and advice. The dream she normally had had become more frequent and had changed a bit since it had begun, but that also was alright. Fiona was pretty good with change, as it had been a constant in her life up until the last little while- things had finally started to settle down, and she firmly believed that most of it was her guardian's doing.
Fiona felt as though it would be good to see Granny again soon to see if she could get more information. She was sure that Granny would feel how much stronger Beulah's presence had gotten, and she was certainly curious to see if there was more she could learn about how this exactly was supposed to work...perhaps Granny would have some suggestions on how to deal with this influx of power, and perhaps to help take some of the fatigue away, as well...
