Ugh yeah. Researchers don't actually see any of that money journals get from publishing their work; it's only for "impact."
If anything, since they're the ones who would need to read those papers, they're the ones getting ******** over.
I mean, some institutions have access to stuff for free, but if you're not in a good university in the US... ohh boy.

Oh man, that's rough. Most scientific terminology is in English, after all... I've always been curious how people make scientific terms in their own language. Or do they just loan?

Oh wow. Good luck with that. What language are you using again?
I've found myself going back to Python--it's a bit slower than what I'd like, but it has nice libraries like numpy for the math stuff I need to do, and it's easy for lazy people to use (compared to something like C++).

It's not making something so much as solving a problem (that's what we math people do) but yeah, was a stroke of bad luck. My adviser thought we could work on this relatively obscure problem that only a few people were working on. Turns out it'd been solved a couple of years ago.
I read the paper, and thought, "ah s**t, they had the same idea as I did. Our proofs are pretty much the same, but my exposition was so much nicer and more intuitive." lol
So, we decided to attack the next problem. I have an argument that eliminates most cases, but I have literally hundreds of cases to work on, hence me deciding to automate the proving process.
Using computers to prove math theorems, by the way, is far from a new approach. The four color theorem, which states that you can color any map with four colors such that no two adjacent regions share the same color, was proved with heavy computer assistance.

That's fair. That part can be tedium sometimes. Academic texts can be incredibly dense, and hard to access. I imagine it'd be harder for you where you are--thank the heavens for SciHub/Library Genesis. xd

For me, the hardest part is mostly the drudgery. I have hundreds of subcases to check, and I've gone so far as to write a computer program to automate half of it. lol
Oh yeah, that and the programming too, because sometimes even if you think you've coded perfectly, your program behaves in unexpected ways. Ahh computers. emotion_facepalm

Good to hear you're doing fine, though! At least it seems to be going good this time.
Haha. As always, I'm pretending that I'm not a swirling vortex of existential angst and futility. Lol. But I'm alright. lol
Getting somewhere with my own thesis, just that... so many cases... to... check...

Oh man. I feel ya there.
So easily distracted and sometimes, the actual writing is sheer drudgery.

How're ya doin', anyway? I assume the hair-cutting went well? =w=
