Looking at the Wiki article on Extension Corps, I can see the commonalities there with some of your other favourite characters. There's nothing wrong with that!
I did study Japanese when I was at university many years ago, but I decided to pick up/carry on with my studies so that I have a more functional grasp of the language. I'd consider myself conversational; I can understand and participate in conversations on everyday subjects or my interests, but I'm by no means fluent. I can read shounen manga with the aid of a dictionary, but I'd be out of my depth with adult literature or official text forms. In part it's because shounen manga gives you the hiragana reading next to the kanji so you don't go insane trying to look up unfamiliar words (it's possible the other way but very time-consuming). Having said that, I mainly just wanted to live my best weeb life, so reading shounen manga is where it is at.
I have however never been to Japan and I'd really have to psych myself up to go even if the money eventuated as I like being at home! Travel is stressful!
I mean, I can't actually just sit and watch a show. I watch while fishing on Gaia/opening Bug Traps/sewing/doing a word puzzle/working on my Japanese flash cards. I know not everyone can even do this, but I sit in awe of people who can just sit and watch a whole film without having something else to do at the same time. What do you do with your hands? Hands どこ?
You may not be interested in the show at all anyway, I just felt like you would understand something new having you in a death grip!
