Monday night we received news that Monster Galaxy for Facebook is down. Turns out that the Facebook application interface we installed 4 years ago simply expired as Facebook started using newer versions. Today I dedicated most of the daytime working on reviving the game, as it's very unfair for the thousands of players to have their progress erased in an instant.
As it turns out, I'll need to upgrade not just the Facebook adapter, but also the PHP compiler to a newer version. Unlike the facebook adapter, the compiler upgrade is much like upgrading to a newer web server, it takes time and is gonna be handled by our operations engineer. Thanks again James! The fun never end!
While I wait for the server upgrade, I'm going to start work on the item backend. When completed, it'll:
- allow quick look up of parent items (know which CI or bundle an item came from)
- allow items to have a status where it can be searchable and displayed in avatar builder at the right time, allowing us to not have to shutdown avatar builder
- bring back inventory worth
Looks like I ran out of time. Have to continue working on this when I'm at the office.

Looks like I forgot to sleep. On the plus side, the inventory worth calculator is back. It doesn't load by default as it is still resource intensive. For an inventory with 3000 items, load time is 3seconds uncached, 0.8 second cached. People with a moderate amount of inventory should expect net worth to load in about 5 seconds. Results will cache for 4 hours to prevent it slowing down the database.
