Original Poem based off the Jabberwocky poem by Lewis Carroll
Darkness
Kayleigh Chapman
(from The English Assignment)
`Twas nighttime, and the silent child
Did dream and slumber in the room:
All quiet were the board games piled,
And the thunder did not boom.
"Beware the Darkness, my son!
The murk that creeps, the gloom that sinks!
Beware the Shadow bird, and shun
The sinister Shady Minx!"
He took his sunlit sword in hand:
Long time the cunning foe he sought --
So rested he by the lamp lights three,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in focused thought he stood,
The Darkness, with wisps of flame,
Came slinking through the pitch-black wood,
And thundered as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The sunlit blade went slash and hack!
He left it gone, and with its pawn
He went galloping back.
"And, has thou slain the Darkness?
Come to my arms, my clever boy!
O brilliant day! Yippee! Hooray!'
He burbled in his joy.
`Twas nighttime, and the silent child
Did dream and slumber in the room:
All quiet were the board games piled,
And the thunder did not boom.
