This is a short but (in a way sickeningly) sweet story by Susan Hill.
Set after WWII.
Mother and daughter living of poverty in England, surviving on the Mother's dressmaking/altering pay.
Father died in the war etc.
Valerie Littlewood's illustrations are great as usual... although I have seen better from this artist/illustrator.

Tilly is looking forward to Christmas,
although times are hard for her and
her widowed dressmaker mother.
But an awful event threatens to ruin
their Christmas completely. Only a
miracle, it seems, can save the day -
a miracle involving old Mrs McBride's
beautiful glass angels...

Soooo. Got home near 11 last night, and just had to play ./hack 1.
Turned off the light after 12.
Woke up at 2 (waking dream) convinced there was someone in the dining room.
Grabbed what I knew in my dream state to be a button tin (it wasn't...) and then woke up standing there.
Dropped what I had in my hand and went to the loo, where I realized that it couln't have been a button tin.
Went back to the bedroom to discover that it was one of the boxed sets of Buffy.
Duh. Why do I do strange things?
Anyway, went back to sleep - to more dreams about Piros (from ./hack...) and trying to find that blasted remedy in the dungeon.
Woke not that much later really hungry.
My various deformities are not as swollen today, and I am feeling a bit better.
Ah, woken by Melody coming in the house this morning to do some painting. I ended up washing Adam's curtains and sugar soaping the walls that Melody wanted to do (while she did the ceiling).
Hung the washing out and cooked porridge & toast for breaky.
Domestic Daffey to the rescue!
Melody is fluey. She's got a dreadful cough too.
I blame her smoking.
I did the usual "Give up already!" rolleyes
Her response was "I know." sweatdrop
I remember years ago when she started smoking and her telling me that she could give up any time.
I've lost count of how many times Melody (and Bigbird) have tried to quit.
Damn addictions. (My own addiction is escapism into books/manga/anime & video games...)
Which reminds me! I gets paid tomorre. Yahoo!

I'll be going into the city before work to the best bookstore in the world.
No I'm not going to say the name, I must've said it 50 times in my journal already.
I'm gonna pick up some manga and a couple of anime titles - second try for Infinite ryvius 3 and will really try to get the last of the Gundam wing series (number 10).
Am dragging along that Manga design book to show the girl on the manga/comics desk what I was talking about. Hmph.
Unless Chewy/Chewie/Chu Ee... Idunno how the guy's name is spelled, is on the desk.
He'll know what I'll be raving on about!
Whatever.
Anyway... Am tempted to get another PS2. Why? Cause I wanna use my chipped one for American games only.
Adam would be happy if I let him use it too.
Speaking of American... Saw the covers of The amulet of Samarkand and The golem's eye... They suck! The covers that we got are so much better. Heh heh. Finally I get satisfaction for the crappy Harry Potter book covers we got, while the Americans got nice ones... Although, have you seen the French covers? Looks like Wally! (from Where's Wally... Waldo in America I think.) I like ours compared to their covers at least. 3nodding
Am working with Warwick tonight.
It's pretty quiet, just a few weird reference questions... nothing interesting.
Wind chimes, Paul Cezanne, Indian poetry... Boring.
Scott's reaction to Rocky horror - He really liked Tim Curry's acting, but didn't understand the film as a whole.
Put it into Nicole's tray the other day. I'm waiting to see if she's watched it yet.
