Main Ingredient(s): Rhino horn and greywacke Original Spell: To cure a girl from an extreme fever What went wrong: It was supposed to be used human blood instead of the rhino's one
Full Story: "Ahh...ohhh....ugghhh..." A lean woman moaned and groaned, tossing and turning on a little bed; her body was drenched with sweat, despite the fact that she was surrounded by bags and bags of ice. Several people were hunched around her, or hovering around the little room where she was housed; some preyed, some wept, others went back and forth, carrying old bags of melted water away and replacing them with new bags of ice. Everyone seemed to know what was going to happen, but no one wanted to admit it; the woman had been like this for several days now, and she wasn't going to get better, not without a miracle.
Suddenly, the door to the little room burst open, and a tall, blond man stepped through. He thrust a leather bag in front of him, beaming with pride. Several of the women in the room gasped and cried out, hurrying toward the bag. Although it was leather, there was a large, dark spot at the bottom: blood. The women didn't seem to notice this, and grasped the bag, almost ripping it open. A large, curved object fell from the bag, making a loud thump as it hit the wooden floor. The man's smile broadened even more as the treasure was revealed, and he, done with his part of the work, sunk into the nearest chair to get some sleep.
"Ohh, Brakus, you did well!" One of the women cried, jumping up to hug the man quickly, before sinking back to the floor with the other women. Together, they lifted the object, hoisting it over their heads before running off into another room. Loud grating noises drifted in from that room, and the rest of the people cheered and whooped with joy at every little sign of the work.
The women were working on grating the object into a fine powder, using many rough, grey stones. Blood dripped off of the large end of it, still something no one in the room seemed to notice. Obviously, the fact that this object, this horn, had been taken off of a living, breathing creature didn't seem to disturb any of them.
One of the women sighed, throwing her rock to a corner of the room. "Jeemie, my Greywacke isn't working! It must not be rough enough...Do you have any more...?" An old woman, presumably Jeemie, turned toward the rock-less worker, nodding slowly.
"Yes," She said, her voice shaking with age. "We've got plenty down the hall...Go, fetch it quick...We've got to do this fast if your sister is going to have any chance to live..." At those last words, the woman bowed her head, a single tear sliding down her wrinkled cheek. She stood there for a moment, taking deep breaths to control her emotions, then grasped her own rough, grey rock from where she had put it down, and went back to work.
Back in the 'sick room,' the woman continued to moan and groan, toss and turn. The people gathered around her glanced at the door every once in a while, impatient for the others to get their work done. At long last, all of the women came back through the door, struggling to carry the bag, which looked considerably larger than when it had first been delivered by the blond man. They dumped the contents, white shavings mixed with a few bloody ones, into a large tub, and then quickly ran out of the room. Moments later, they came back with all of their Greywacke stones, throwing them in with the shavings. Everyone stood back from the tub, looking at it with a reverence that put it in the line with the gods.
After a few moments, the old woman shuffled toward the bucket, kneeling before it. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes, and began to speak. "Oh, great gods, please take this offering of the mighty Greywacke stone, coupled with the shavings of the horn from the greatest beast in all the land. Please take it, and cure..." Her breath caught in her throat, and she had to stop for a few moments to get back her composure. "Please....cure....her..." Once the incantation was finished, she stood, bowed her head toward the tub, and brought her hand up beside her shoulder, waving it twice.
Two women saw the signal and ran quickly out of the room, yelling at the top of their lungs. "Come! Come, it's your time!" They shouted, over and over, running through the house. After a few tense moments, a group of little boys came out of a room, running as quickly as they could; they were working together to hold a huge tub of blood, and it sloshed with every movement. Seeming to not notice anything but their task, the boys continued until they reached the 'sick room.' Once they were a few feet in, they set the tub down, bowed before it, and ran back out of the room.
This time, it was the hunter who stood over the tub, bowed, and began to speak. "Oh, great gods...I am a hunter, a killer, a provider...I have killed the beast that's blood stands before me, and I killed it with the mercy of a man who knows animals....Please, take this blood, and let it be good enough to mix with the other things we have offered you, so we may work to cure my...my daughter..." He almost choked up saying the last few words, but, like the old woman, got up as soon as he had finished, bowed his head, and bent down, picking up the tub. The muscles in his arms buldged as he turned, slowly, and tipped the contents of his tub into the mixture of Greywacke and horn shavings.
As soon as the blood touched the contents of the first tub, it steamed up, melting everything; as the steam settled, all of the people's heads bent over the tub, anxious to see what would come out. Once the steam had settled so the contents of the tub were visible, a few gasps pierced the silence of the room, followed by angry bellows and calls.
"What is this?" One of the people yelled, pointing down into the tub. Sitting rather akwardly in the tub was a baby, but not just any baby; this little thing had a little horns adorning its entire body, pointed ears, a tail, and grey skin. The old woman shuffled foreward, and as she got a look at the thing in the tub, her eyes grew wide with suprise, and then rage.
"It's a monster! The decendant of the great beast that was slaughtered by our best hunter! The gods have punished us for all of the wicked we have done in our lives, and sent us this, instead of the cure we need!" She took a deep breath, clenching and unclenching her fists with rage. Several of the people in the room stepped back from the tub, while others advanced on it to get a better look. The little creature looked back up at the people, blinking its first blinks, breathing its first breaths.
"KILL IT!" The hunter brought forth an enormous bellow of rage, picking up his still-bloodied axe and advancing on the creature. Although the rest of the crowd seemed fine with this idea, and were starting to grab at the little thing in order to hold it down, one woman gasped in horror at the scene, jumping into the tub.
"No! We musn't kill this offering from the gods! Don't you see?" She looked from person to person, despiration clear in her eyes. The people looked back at her with dumb rage, and after a few moments, they started toward the tub again, reaching out for her, and the creature.
One man stepped from the back of the crowd, clearly enraged at this specticle. "If she wants to protect the beast, then there's only one thing to do...Kill them both!" This exclamation was seconded with many "Yeah!"s and "Kill them!"s, and the crowd pressed even closer. The old woman managed to muscle her way to the front of the crowd, and stood with her arms out in front of the tub.
"Let us think for a moment..." She closed her eyes, nodding slowly. "She does not want to kill it...It is true that it has betrayed our only chance of saving the heiress to the chiefdom, but this woman is part of our tribe, also, and she must be treated like one..." Her arms came down, settling on her hips. "If she thinks she can take care of it, let her have it, on one condition..." The old woman turned, facing the tub, and looking the young lady in the face. "She must never come back again, on pain of death..." This proclamation brought forth the same amount of enthusiasm as the demand to kill both people, and arms reached from all around into the tub, pulling both the woman and creature from it. They tossed the two bodies, almost limp with fear and confusion, out of the room, closing the door quickly behind them.
As soon as the door was closed in their noses, the woman and the creature turned, looking each other over. The first to act was the woman; she put her arms gently around the being, hugging it close, and rubbing her hands along the thick skin. After a few moments, she began to cry, and the creature moaned in sorrow along with her. They stayed like that for what seemed like hours, until the door to the 'sick room' opened again. The hunter stood, almost totally filling the doorframe, his blood-stained axe in his hands.
"I thought you would still be here..." He said, smiling a cruel smile. "Didn't you hear? You're banned, both of you...Now, get out, before I make you!" The axe was hefted above the man's head, and before he could bring it down, the woman was running down the hall, the creature in her arms.
After what seemed like another couple hours of nothing but running, the woman collapsed, panting heavily. She sighed, rolling to face her new companion. "Alright, little guy...I know where I can take you, where you'll be safe, forever..." She rose, the creature in her arms, and staggered toward a light in the distance. Not long after she had started, the woman dropped down again, too exausted to go on. They were directly in front of the house, and the shine of the lights was the most welcome sight the woman had ever seen. She smiled, struggling to her feet. Tears ran down her face, and she took a deep breath; laying the creature gently down on the door step, she knocked twice, turned, and ran with all the strength she had back out to the woods.
After she had gotten a few hundred yards away, she collapsed, breathing heavily. "Please, little one..." She coughed, sliding against a tree trunk. "Be safe...Those people will help you, I just know it..." Tears ran silently down her cheeks, and her voice was broken by sobs. "You'll find someone...Who will care for you, make you the best you can be...my little one..." She closed her eyes finally, letting the tears flow down, and letting the night encompass her.

Name: Wycliff Nicknames: Wy Date of Arrival: July 27, 2005 Gender: Male Species: Southern White Rhino (Anthro) Age: Toddler Eye Color: Purple Hair Color: Mossy Green Height: Three feet, three inches Weight: 56 Lbs Skin Color: Green-ish Grey Other: Small horn-like protrusions all over his body - Longish, thick tail - Claw-like fingers and toes - Three toes, four fingers on each foot/hand - Likes: White (the color), water (floating in it), being carried, knowing how things work, Copey the Puff, Vegetables, and more... Dislikes: Meat, mean people, and more... Friends: Deimos, Shavira, Osso... Mate: To be decided
Personality: So far, Wycliff seems to be a very deliberate, slow being. If he wants something, he will make it clear, but as long as he sees it's coming, he is patient. Very inquisitive, especially with new Mishaps and their Guardians. Although he is usually quiet and observant, when he is around friends or doing something he likes or loves to do, he opens up, and becomes quite the loud and playful individual. He loves to know how things work, from mechanical objects to the rules of games, and only finds things fun when he understands them. He loves to speak, and learn new words. Whenever he can, he is listening to some form of talking, in some language, whether it be from the television or just listening to Tori talk to someone. Cute things often catch his attention, like his pet Copey, and Shavira. (^_~) As long as people are nice to him, he is nice to them.

Name: Torikonero Nicknames: Tori, Toriko, Rikon, Toto-San, Torik, and many more... Age: 24 Gender: Male Species: Anthropomorphic Llama/Human Male Height: Six feet, Seven inches Eye Color: Grey/Hazel Hair Color: Dark Purple/Dark Brown Hair Length: About three feet... Zodiac Sign: Taurus Animal Year: Snake (Hebi) Likes: Llamas, seahorses, okapi, rhinos, ungulates, animals in general, trombones, good music (Usually without words), nice people, art, banana nut bread... Dislikes: Mean people, discrimination, meat, ways of thinking that don't make sense, animal cruelty, violence...
Personality: Tori is a quiet person, naturally assuming that he has nothing important to say most of the time. He is quick to trust, and assumes everyone is a wonderful person, without flaw, most-often even after proven otherwise. Given the chance, he would make everyone and everything happy, but since he does not have such a chance, he does the best he can to make everyone and everything as happy as possible. Although he is usually smiling, Tori's eyes are kind, but sad. His long hair has been with him since he can remember, and he absent-mindedly plays with it when agitated or unhappy in some way.

<Mishap/Guardian> Deimos/Jizzy: Wycliff has met Deimos a few times, and found him to be a hard-lovin' kind of Mishap; able to make friends, if you get past his rough side. Wycliff has found friendship with Deimos easier and easier as he interacts with him, and now quite thouroughly enjoys his company, as they go on wild, and not-so-wild, adventures. Jizzy is a very nice person, who takes wonderful care of her Mishap; she seems to have a mysterious magical side, which Wycliff has only seen peeks of, but seems to bring her much trouble.
Shavira/Kii: Wycliff has had ample time to discover that both Shavira and Kii are very interesting and nice people. He seems to be able to get past Shavira's snakes, something that not even her Guardian can do, and hug and interact with her. Wycliff and Shavira are friends now, and whenever Wy sees Shavi, his world seems to light up, and he always wants to go play with her before anything else. Kii also seems to be a very good Guardian for Shavira, and a very nice person; she is very understanding, as Tori is, of her Mishap, and doesn't mind cleaning up a few messes, if it means a little fun.
Azumi/Osso: When Tori and Wycliff met Azumi, she wasn't a Mishap guardian; she was just a lonely werewolf exploring the world of the Mishaps, and hoping to have one of her own. Now, however, Azumi has acquired Osso as her charge, a Mishap who Wycliff recently met at a park. The two discovered the fun a slide can bring, and were quite unhappy when Azumi and Tori took them home. Hopefully they will be able to continue to interact, and become better friends.<Other> Copey: Tori recently purchased a pet for Wycliff: a small, white puff that Wy named Copey. Copey is presumably male, although neither of them really want to check and find out for sure. Wycliff really loves Copey, and is doing his best to take care of his new pet the best he can, with Tori's help.
