So, as I've been wandering around the Shipping forum, I've been noticing a lot of anti-Mai POVs. I personally adore Mai. What's your guys' take on her?
I think I like Mai so much because of the way I perceive her to be. I perceive her to be a cut-off character. Obviously. She doesn't wear her emotions on her sleeve. Either she does this on purpose to protect herself from getting hurt, or that's just the way her personality is. Either way, it's an endearing trait to me.
Another thing that I like about Mai is how human she is. Everyone's like, "Yeah, Mai's a robot." I don't think so. You watch her and you see how human she is. I dunno if it's easier for me to pick up on these traits because I tend to be closed-off myself, but little looks here and there tell me everything. I personally think she's more human and realistic than most, maybe ALL, of the other characters.
One big thing that sort of endears me to her is the whole Maizu/Maiko pairing. That flashback in Zuko Alone was the most damned sweet thing in the series. And the fact that she still clings onto that crush, 2 years after he was banished, and for 7+ years (we saw the first sign, as in the flashback, about 7 years ago, probably stemmed back farther), is just so sweet. The longest crush I've ever known was... well, are we talking a DECLARED crush here, or just a slight obsession? Hm. 2 years for declared, 3 years for undeclared.
But, yeah, I dunno. I don't know why I like Mai so much, it's hard for me to elaborate. But I do. What's your guys' feelings on her?

I like Mai. The creators have stated that they tried to depict her as the typical teen goth. I like the "the whole world's boring" attitude she has. It also seems that even though she seems emotionless, she's not as much into fighting as Azula. Remember this: "just take the bear.." But then, maybe I'm wrong and she was either tired of worrying with him, or knew she was outnumbered and didn't bother. *Sigh*, I don't know, all I do know is that I like her attitude.

I'm pretty indifferent to Mai. :] I think the fact that she works for Azula probably stops me from liking her more, though.

I think she's adorable and that she should end up with Zuko.

Mai is okay. She balances Ty Lee's optimism and her "I don't care either way" attitude is kinda refreshing. Out of Ty Lee, Azula, and Mai, I would definitely pick her as my favorite.

she's cool. she doesn't bother me as negative people usually do. plus she's a non-bender who kicks a$$, so she has earned my respect (and fear) 3nodding
