After Sephiroth was owned by Cloud in FFVII, there is no reference to the black materia in FFVII:AC.
So what exactly happened to it. Did Sephiroth absorb it completely or something?

I think that the black materia was what brought down Meteor and when Meteor was gone so was it.

i think the black materia was destroyed when meteor was destroyed

My guess was that it was a one time thing. If you notice, it vanished from the game after Sephiroth summoned Meteor, so I'm guessing that all the power required to summon Meteor destroyed it after one use.

I thought it was gone with Sephiroth because he absorbed it right?

it probably was linked to sephiroths life somehow so when he died the black materia was destroyed

the black materia was used to summon meteor (sp?) duh...didnt you pay attention when you were playin the game?

Well, during the FMV sequence in which Cloud gives Sephiroth the black materia, we see it go and get absorbed into his body. I am assuming that you fight this body in the end, and when you finally destroy Sephiroth, the materia, like his body, returns to the life stream. There's probably a chance, I figure, that it may be recreated some day, as materia does occur naturally in nature (although over a really long span of time), so I wouldn't necessarily say it's gone for good.
