Better wait until this summer, when I'm back in the mainland US. whee Shipping costs to Hawaii are not fun.

radioactive alchemist Better wait until this summer, when I'm back in the mainland US. whee Shipping costs to Hawaii are not fun. Oh, I imagine it'd take forever to get around. We can start in the UK, perhaps. I wouldn't mind mailing it over if someone wouldn't mind mailing it back. So you're in?

I'm in, as long as a picture isn't required. I'm not, shall we say, photogenic. Not in the least.
I live in Manitoba, Canada.

If I were man enough to do this, I would stop washing my awesome winter track socks and just staple them into the book.
Pity to the first person to meet my socks.

So.. yeah. What a cool idea. Even better because this is going to be a totally handmade book. Except for the paper of course; that will come from some of the unused surplus lying around this artsy household. If this place were ever to catch fire, the flames would be visible from Baltimore. sweatdrop
Bookmaking from scratch can be tedious or simple, depending on the choice of style. The easiest way to make a book is just to glue a wad of blank pages together along the spine, then paste on a simple cover. Books made like that are ok for journals but they never lay flat and the spines tend to crack. Think cheap paperbacks.
The best way is to use hand-sewn 'signatures', or groups of folded pages stitched together with strong thread which are then attached via a 'mull' and coverboards, like the best textbooks. That is what this is going to be, and if anyone is really interested in learning this process, it would easy enough to post some pics of the stages here. It is somewhat tedious but not all that complex a process.
In case you are wondering, I am not a professional of any kind, just a word-junkie who likes to write on a regular basis and enjoys making something nice out of whatever happens to be lying around. I have kept personal journals and dreamlogs since age 14. I taught myself bookmaking as a way to give these a more intimate connection to the random scribblings, story ideas and rough sketches they contain. Curiously, as I told Prisma when I offered to do this, I was already working up a new journal, so all the necessary equipment is conveniently spread out on the work table.
Some input for the covers would be nice. My art alone would never suffice gonk talk2hand
You have the front & back covers to play with, plus the two inside covers.
Ooooh, this is gonna be fun.
