considering you have your Windows XP CD just go to Start, Control Panel, Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options and click Add other languages then check the boxes and say ok.
Note: this should be about 600 MB and may take a little time to finish
after doing this there will be a process of what languages you wish to use. I believe the box says details. click add and another box will come up with your default language (most likely English: United States) just click on the triangle and look/add japanese. after doing this close it by saying OK. woot! you now have japanese text support! 4laugh
now you should have this thing called the "Language Bar" sitting on your desktop somewhere. it should say EN meaning english (if that's your default language) now look for japanese or JP and slowly learn to use it 3nodding

I've done that before, but the language bar never came up, and I can't find it. T.T
Edit: It's ok, I fixed it. If anyone else has the problem that the language bar doesn't come up even after the language, etc has been installed, ask me and I'll tell you how I did it.

You may also purchase Service Packs 1-5 for Windows 2000 NT to be able to switch languages to Asian characters. That is what I have had to do for several friends(im basically tech support for my group of friends).

You forgot to mention that you will need your windows xp cds in order for Japanese to become optional and ready to load! So if Japanese isn't in your languages don't freak, you just need to pop your cd in and wala. Also, you will need to restart your computer in order for the language bar to show up and work.
Jasmine Tsai-What do you need help on?
