Good question. I don't know.
I don't mind potheads. My friend Didem is a huge pothead.

I would think pot's sold the same way, as it is in the US, through shady dealers, and secret meetings. Check around the youth communities, and I'm positive you'll find a good group of potheads. But if you plan to roam through the red light districts, I'd suggest watching your back, and watching your mouth. Like any stereotypical ghetto, they won't take being disrespected very lightly.

law on drugs here is very, very strict. I don't know anyone that does any kind of drugs. to make an example, my boyfriend used to smoke a lot of pot in the uk, but hasn't had any since moving back to japan in august, partly because he has no idea where he'd get any, but more because he's too scared of the consequences should he get caught.

Well... my ex boyfriend (yeah.. ex..), who is japanese, is a pothead. His friend is one too, but he spent 6 months in jail for getting caught while smoking marijuana. I was surprised, because that would not happen here in Europe. I remember that when we lived together he could get marijuana easily, and it was the same price as it is in europe. so I guess japan is also full of potheads^^

I dunno if the actual number of people doing drugs is lower but I do know that drug laws are FAR worse than in the US.

ShibuyaGal I dunno if the actual number of people doing drugs is lower but I do know that drug laws are FAR worse than in the US. I heard the same thing. But I think doing drugs is stupid, so if people get in major trouble for doing it, I don't really care becaus they would deserve it.

I'm a pothead, and I was just curious if it would be possible to smoke a little if I ever went to Japan. I wouldn't want to go around trying to buy it though. I'd just want to bring a little of my own with me. But that's a very bad idea...

I honestly never understood why marijuana is illegal. You can't overdoze on it, there have been studies that have shown that people drive WORSE while drunk than high. Alcohol is one of the number one causes of violent crimes such as abuse, fights, ect. Marijuana just makes you relaxed, peaceful, ect. I've honestly never seen someone become violent or mean when they got high. Marijuana especially needs to be legalized for medical reasons, I've seen my Mother die from cancer and chemotherapy is a horrible thing to go through. She would of been much healthier if she used medical marijuana because she constantly had nausea and was hardly ever hungry.
When Germany and the Netherlands legalized marijuana for sale in coffee shops, violent crime had gone down, and the amount of people who tried marijuana the first time had gone down, while underage (illegal) drinking went up, no surprise really.
Being a teenager is all about rebellion, why would you want to do something legal? There's no excitement of risk or danger...
Why alcohol is legal... Go fig.
