He had thought it would be fun, easy. He had thought it would be a handshake, a simple hello and a little introduction before heading back, perhaps grabbing a bite to eat, then sleeping a little --- Or, no, he would need to set things up. Parenting, though tedious, had seemed as if it would be a brand new adventure for him to face - full time teaching, a bundle of surprises - or that had been how it had been explained to him. Unfortunately, what he had been greeted with had not been what he had expected - nor what anyone else could have expected ... Or had they expected such a thing and just not told him?

The end had turned to face him with a stern expression plastered to its forsaken being. It was his Cheshire Cat, the riddle of life included with its obnoxious grin. Why was he, of all people, a candidate - and further: why in the name of all things sane would he be situated with a murder machine? As chaos unfolded all around him the only thing Kenneth could think to do was wish to be saved by some mysterious force. If only a wishing star were to fall and grant him the chance to make such a humble request.

Crash , clatter. An immense racket sang and was followed by sonorous laughter - squeakish and giddy. Under any other circumstances, Kenneth may have smiled on the account of such glee. He loved children, seeing them happy, laughing, smiling. Chaos, however, he felt no pleasure in seeing fed. With his eyes shut tight, the man had brought a hand up to his face to stroke his temples and beard. Whatever solid agreement he had missed when taking his job, he cursed his horrid eyesight and his eagerness for the rapid educational change. It was the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. His first job had been too large in requirements for him to handle as a rookie, his second had been lacking satisfaction - and the third, the current, had seemed just right. Unfortunately, just like in the story, the bears had returned to smite him for taking their porridge, and they had done it in the form of a toddler.

Opening his eyes, Kenneth had witnessed the one dawning moment of his obligatory trip. There, saddled on the ground and held tightly, squirming and yelling, was the source of the entropy. He was a wild looking boy with uneven hair. In fact, on one side it looked as if the hair had been stripped clean entirely, though there was always the chance the jerking motions the child made created the illusion of such a catastrophe of a hair style. Restless and snarking, Kenneth knew his day had come - but he had been granted a few more blissful moments of life as others handled the wreckage that had surrounded them.

"Lego! Lego! Lego! MypoolringsfellandIwantthem!" The little boy had hissed on the ground, clawing at the floor underneath those pinning him down and talking amongst themselves. "Rings! Rings! Rings!" In a frenzy, the clawing had begun, and within moments the problem had resurfaced as the child got away - his disheveled brown hair flittering; the dampened fur aiding in his sliding escape. The hurtful quality of the species: they were sleek and fast. Catching the boy was impossible - keeping him still already seemed impossible! Groaning over his misfortune, Kenneth had looked down at his feet only to see a shining red pool ring situated on his foot. His eyebrows knitted together and his nose wrinkled as he knelt down to pick it up - only to feel a brutal force run smack into him and knock him onto the ground. In a daze he had clutched the pool ring and held it against his head while rubbing. When he had finally come to, his forest eyes had met a pair that had seemed similar - green and lush, surrounded by bouts of peach fur. A moment of solitude had occurred as the educator had leaned back to fix his glasses. Once he had finished such a task, he had gotten a clear look at the child... An Otter. Ha! An Otter...

"Heya, mister, cin aye half me ring, duh?" The little otter boy had wriggled his whiskers, a bedazzled look befalling his face. "F-f-f...av...e. I like it. That one, you got, I want it." His face had twisted awkwardly before a stretching grin had been painted on. Within his eyes there lurked a particular desperateness, and, without thinking, Kenneth had returned the red ring - to which the child had placed on his tail before spinning around on his knees as if to once again slide away. Something caught the otter, though. The little boy had spun back around to eyeball Kenneth, suddenly standing on his hands and feet while crawling forward. It was not until the boy's black nose had touched Kenneth's that he had ceased his advancement. "You nah gunna pin me?"

Bewildered, the educator had shaken his head. He scoffed, opening his mouth as if to protest the anarchy of which the boy was causing. Before he could utter so much as a word, the boy had set two fuzzy fingers over his lips before flashing his teeth. The otter's face seemed to glimmer with mischief as the fingers were pulled away. Once, the boy had slapped his tail against the ground, his rings clacking musically before he bowed his head - the mess of brown-toned hair atop his head shagging over his eyes. "Bye-Bye, Pie." The otter had laughed, giving the motion of a thumb's up before preparing to leave. This time, Kenneth did not waste a second. He did not believe his heart could handle another round of the child's game of torturing everyone who had been around for the meeting. As the future parent of the boy it was his responsibility to do something. With the greatest of haste, the educator had wrapped his arms around the otter, squeezing as tightly as his mind told him to in order to prevent another escape. "HEY!" The Otter had wailed with grief; his legs flailed like the fin of a fish that had been caught out of water. Still, Kenneth did not let go.

And under such undesirable terms - under such an unwilling contract - the journey began for them both. What a nightmare! Yet, Kenneth had felt the amusement within - even during the destruction and havoc and yelling and screaming. There was something oddly funny about the whole situation, though he wasn't entirely sure what ... Would he ever be?
