Japanese people like all different American singers and bands. I know that Jesse McCartney went to Japan. um..Shakira? pretty much the same here. In practically all Japanese songs there is some English which is kinda weird. I mean in american songs we don't sing in Spanish (Shikira being the aception) lol Maybe its because Japan is very influenced by America

There are quite a few American bands that are popular in Japan. Daniel Powter is huge in my class right now, with "You Had a Bad Day" in particular. Not sure on other ones at the moment...

Red Hot Chili Peppers is huge in Japan. Pretty much most of the popular bands in America are at least well known in Japan.

I know one thing, a lot of foreign musical acts perform at Budokan, which seems to be a very famous place.

From what I get from what my cousin says, pretty much any popular band/singer here in North America, is very popular in Japan. I know when I went to Japan (Tokyo) they played a lot of that (What I concider Crappy) American music. All the Hip Hop/R&B/Pop stuff. Most of the stuff I like isn't popular in Japan "Under Ground Japanese music" Like the GazettE, Kra, Kagrra, Miyavi, Nightmare... But going to concert for those bands are awsome! Gackt, Glay, X Japan, hide, B'z are very popular. A lot of people know who Janne da Arc, L'arc~en~Ciel, Bump of Chicken are.
Well, that's what I know about music in Japan.

Basically any of the top bands in America are going to be heard and more than likely loved, in Japan. This means top 30. Big bands in the day like NSync and that other boy band were very popular. Even pop star singers get a chance to travel there if their music is big in the states (think Britney Spears *shudder*).

Japanese sing in English because it sounds exotic, that's the only reason.
