I'll fill this in better later... here's a short version for now.
General Idea
Heralds are angelic messengers who come from heavan, created to deliver a message to people on earth. What isn't so well known is that they lose their wings afterwards and are fated to die...
I came across one of these dying angels one day and learned that they can be saved. By sacrificing an item, it merges with the angel and becomes the angel's new wings.
However, they have no knowledge of their previous life and must be taught to how to live here. Angels are genderless, with long white hair and blue eyes before they fall. When they are first reborn, they are like their previous angelic state, only male or female but still without distinctive features. As you raise them, they develop traits and personalities, and their wings grow with them depending on the item sacrificed.
The Heralds are directly connected to their wings, and they would fall ill if harm came to their wings. If their wings are somehow lost or destroyed, they would die...
There is a catch! - The item you sacrifice must be found somewhere on Gaia. Whether it be in the mini-shops, Gaia shops, commissioned to be drawn, or drawn by yourself. Be creative and think carefully, this will have a huge effect on your Herald. I highly discourage any sort of perishable item as this may lead to long-term illness of your Herald.
Don't fret, objects are not destroyed, but merged with the fallen messenger for those who might be considering sacrificing an animal.

Watch your Herald grow! These entirely depend on how you RP them. They will always remain humanoid; however, some may incorporate more with their sacrificed objects than others. Remember that all drawings will be based on how you RP them!
For instance: If you sacrifice a fox they may grow ears and a tail somewhere during adolescence. Or if you sacrificed something mechanical, random wires might start sprouting out their neck.
The sacrifice will be in response to a RP prompt (which will be posted in your journals)PLEASE NOTE: While we have two artists who have been involved with the Heralds, EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST STAGE all art for your Herald will be drawn by the same artist.
So if bw-inc starts it, she'll be the one drawing all the stages. The same would work with Vian.

First Stage - by Vian
(all start from this same stage)
Fallen messenger. A wingless form who must be saved or die...
You must take part in a ceremony of sacrificing an item to merge with the Herald.
Second Stage - bw-inc
(all start from this same male or female stage)
If the item has been accepted, the angel is reborn as a young boy or girl but still without distinct features except for their newly sprouting wings. They are a blank slate upon which you must teach them.
You must be especially careful at this stage, they are highly vulnerable and easily influenced!
Third Stage - by bw-inc
(all stages here after are fully original)
Depending how you raise them, your child starts to develop unique characteristics based on your descriptions from your journals/RP at the Sanctum.
This is Sarielle's Herald; note how the colours from the fan that was sacrificed are already appearing in the wings. They'll become more fan-like over time.
Fourth Stage
Adolescence... watch out for those teens! Here, Taka's wings have taken on even more characteristics from the fan. She also seems to have been influenced by the house she lived in as a Messenger Reborn; note the distinctly Japanese style of clothing she chooses at this age.
 Fifth Stage
Maturity. Your Herald is no longer a chld, but an adult ready to tackle the world on his or her own.
Sixth Stage
Rare special event stage. Little is known about this...but one thing is for certain: only Heralds that have been loved deeply for a very long time can transcend to the sixth stage. Many never will.

+ Don't steal the art! We work very hard on these, and if we find them used without our permission, you will be reported to a mod - not to mention Breedables can be a cold, cruel place for thieves.
+ Don't PM either Vian, Herald or bw-inc; comment on the board. If you must PM someone, PM Sarielle.
+ Don't beg! If there's not one available, that's it. Wait for another chance.
+ No flaming or fighting. While the Heralds may quarrel, you shouldn't. Take it somewhere else if you have private issues.

+ Yes, you must RP these! If your Herald is neglected, it will die! ;_;
+ You may co-own with only 1 other person as long as each participates at least the minimum time. If one parent is found to be neglecting their duties, the other will receive full custody.
+ No two of the same item may be sacrificed! Keep that in mind when choosing your object. There is a list of items already used in the "existing Heralds" post.
+ You won't actually be giving us an item - merely a picture of it that we put in your journals. Therefore please get the artist's permission before using them, if you're having something drawn; this is easily done by asking when ordering the picture. Of course this isn't necessary if you are the artist.
As has already been stated, the Heralds are RP intensive. The artist customizes each of them depending on how they're RP'ed, so you see how important this is.
General RP Rules: Common Sense Stuff
+ No one-liners (unless you're just goofing off in the shop thread). The point of RPing is to develop your character's personality. It's hard to gain insight with responses of: "He walked in and sat down in a dark corner." There are only so many un-occupied dark corners in a room, people. Keep that in mind (;
+ No god-moding. What does this mean? It's being invincible, or controlling another person's character. For instance, "Shayna slapped Taka hard across the face, making Taka cry." No no no! Sure, Shayna can slap Taka hard across the face (God forbid! 0-0) but it's up to Taka if she cries, slaps Shayna back, runs, or whatever! Not that we're expecting a lot of fights - but you get the idea.
Herald RP Rules: Relax, They're Not Bad
+ You will have certain prompts that you will be expected to respond to. The first few will be the same for all Heralds; later on they may be tailored to your Herald specifically. You will have one month to respond to each, excluding unusual circumstances.
+ You will be notified (either through a PM or an announcement) that a new prompt is up for you.
+ Prompts will no longer be monthly. Sari just had too much trouble keeping up with it that way. Almost always a new prompt will appear when your Herald reaches a new stage, but there may be more than one prompt for the same stage. Sari will not overload anyone, however; all Heralds will end up with approximately the same number of prompts per stage.
+ Spontaneous RP between Heralds is definitely encouraged.
+ If you miss one monthly prompt without informing us of a legitimate reason ahead of time, your Herald will become very ill. Miss two and your Herald will die. ;_; And nobody wants that to happen.
+ We'd like to see at least two or three entries a month total (this includes responses to prompts). We do know sometimes this just isn't feasible - but owners who do this may find themselves with some perks.

To RP with the other Heralds, visit the HERALD SANCTUM, our guild. You may, of course, always RP informally right here on the main thread, or suggest other places to RP within the guild. ^^

Q. How do I get one?
A. Through flatsale, auction, or event.
Q. How about pet trades? I'll trade you my flying monkey for one!
A. We will very very rarely will accept a pet trade. You may however try temping Sarielle, but in general these won't be traded too often; Sarielle likes to keep the number of breedables she owns low. Not to say she can't be tempted; but don't be offended if she refuses. She's often kept very busy with the few she already has.
Q. I can't afford it! It's too expensive!
A. A lot of work goes into these, and the sale costs were considered in that. If however you win a flatsale but don't have 15k, we can work something out. The only requirement is that 4.5k get paid up front.
Note this is only for flatsales, and not auctions or events
Q. How often do they change?
A. It depends on how you RP them, but roughly once a month for the first couple of stages, but the time between stages will increase as the Herald gets older. Keep in mind, it's unique lineart. Anyone caught hassling the artist about growings will be blacklisted, and the Herald will be taken away. No refund. Period. So just don't do it.
Q. Do I have to keep them in my sig?
A. No, this isn't a requirement to keep them in yours sigs/on your homepage. Just keep an eye on them and update your journal regularly. It is, however, encouraged.
Q. How many can I own?
A. Two at the most. One that you purchase/win in a contest, and one offspring from a breeding.
Q. I want to help! Is there anything I can do?
A. Check the very first post to see if positions are open.
Q. I am an artist. Someone has commissioned me to draw an item to be sacrificed. How exactly will the art be used?
A. The artwork will be placed in the Heralds journal, but it will not be otherwise used or altered by this shop. Your name will remain on the artwork, and you retain all rights to it. The item does determine the Herald's appearance, but no part of your drawing will be directly reproduced in the Heralds themselves.
Q. May I join the guild?
A. Have you been around the thread awhile, or does Sari know you? Once you've proven that you're dedicated to the Heralds (or Sari already knows you have some sense) then definitely. Just arrived? Don't request until we knw you a bit better.
Q. I'm in the guild, but I'm not a Herald's owner. Where am I allowed to post?
A. First thing you should do is read the Rules/Regs announcement in the guild itself. Yes, non-owners may post in the "Our Town" thread, and they may create a home for themselves within the guild. If this begins to be a problem, it will be stopped. Simple as that. Non-owners may also post in the journals, providing the owner gives permission.
Q. I want to affiliate. How do I do this?
A. Post your link in the thread, and Sari will update as she sees fit. Mostly we affiliate with other quality, humanoid breedables shops.
Q. How do Heralds breed?
A. All breeding information is located in the "Breeding" post.

Generation 1 Heralds:
When an item is sacrificed to a dying Herald, a human factor is introduced, and therefore a gender is established. Interestingly, there is frequently little correlation between the sacrifice of "feminine" items producing female Heralds, and "masculine" items producing male Heralds.
Because of this human element, 1st Generation Heralds can have sexual intercourse like anyone else, beginning in their teens. But unlike humans, the simple act of sex cannot produce a child. The couple must be truly, deeply, bound to one another before this happens, and their angelic essence must be shared. Thus neither parent "carries" the child, per se; it is simply creating by the sharing of angelic essence, which occurs during a particularly emotional moment when the parents are at their closest. It COULD be during sex, but does not necessarily have to be. Keep in mind, RP must be PG-13. >.> If this is the case, fade to black at the appropriate moment, please.
Also thanks to the introduction of a human element, Heralds no longer bond for eternity, as they once would have. Heralds may have as many different sexual partners as they desire, and may even have children with more than one Herald (though it would be rare that they would grow close enough for this to happen with two different Heralds).
Generation 1 may have a child with either the same sex or a different sex; sexual orientation is not a factor, since it is not the actual sex organs that are involved in the process.
Generation 2 Heralds:
Children of a Heralds breeding will have a traits of both parents, and essentially develop as any human would. No item is sacrificed. They are less vulnerable to inflictions upon their wings; but the wings are generally smaller, and some may even be unable to fly with them.
Second generation Heralds also start off as babies as they were born here. Yes, that means all Generation 2 Heralds have completely unique lineart.
They may have as many different sexual partners as they desire. Unlike the Generation 1 Heralds, children are produced by the physical act of sex, but again only when there is deep emotional attachment. This means that only heterosexual Generation 2 couples may have children; but they are always free to adopt.
Generation 3 Heralds:
A conglomeration of genes, it is often difficult to determine by appearance the items sacrificed tothe Gen 3's ancestors. Wings on the Generation 3 Herald are extremely small, if they appear at all; and they cannot fly.
They do start as a baby; and are given birth to as any human is, after being carried 9 months by the mother. They have all unique lineart.
Thanks to a genetic dysfunction, Generation 3 Heralds cannot breed. They may still take sexual partners, but they are sterile.
Breeding Fast Facts:
+ The pair must both be at least teens before having children. It is highly unusual, however, that a strong enough emotional bond will form until adulthood.
+ They have one child at a time.
+ If the owners of the Heralds pair intend to keep the child, a sole owner must be determined in advance. Not to say both Herald parents cannot be actively involved in the child's development; but only a single Gaian can "own" the child.
+ Children may not be "gifted" to a non-owner, as this could lead to under-the-table bribes.
+ If neither of the parents are inclined to keep the child from the breeding, an owner for it will be found through this shop though auction only.
+ We will receive 75% of all auction prices to make-up for the costs of making them.
+ The owners' portion will be split equally between the two.
Breeding Slots:
We won't keep actual breeding slots. When we think a couple is ready, we will extend the possibility to the owner.
