I'll fill this in better later... here's a short version for now.

General Idea
Heralds are angelic messengers who come from heavan, created to deliver a message to people on earth. What isn't so known is that they lose their wings afterwards and are fated to die...

I came across one of these dying angels one day and learned that they can be saved. By sacrificing an item, it merges with the angel and becomes their new wings.

However, they have no knowledge of their previous life and must be taught to how to live here. Angels are genderless, with long white hair and blue eyes before they fall. When they are first reborn, they are like their previous angelic state, only male or female but still without distinctive features. As you raise them, they develop traits and personalities, and their wings grow with them depending on the item sacrificed.

The Heralds are directly connected to their wings, and they would fall ill if harm came to their wings. If their wings are somehow lost or destroyed, they would die...

There is a catch! - The item you sacrifice must be found somewhere on Gaia. Whether it be in the mini-shops, Gaia shops, commissioned to be drawn, or drawn by yourself. Be creative and think carefully, this will have a huge effect on your Herald. I highly discourage any sort of perishable item as this may lead to long-term illness of your Herald.

Don't fret, objects are not destroyed, but merged with the fallen messenger for those who might be considering sacrificing an animal.

Stages
Watch your Herald grow! These entirely depend on how you RP them. However they will always remain humanoid but some may incorporate more with their sacrificed objects than other. Remember, that all drawings will be based on how you RP them!
for instance: Of you sacrifice a fox they may grow ears and a tail somewhere during adolescence. Or if you sacrificed something mechanical, random wires might start sprouting out their neck.

The sacrifice will be in response to a RP prompt (found in the RP info post)

First Stage (all start from this same stage)
Fallen messenger. A wingless form who must be saved or die...
You must take part in a ceremony of scarificing an item to merge with the Herald.

Second Stage (all start from this same male or female stage)
If the item has been accepted, the angel is reborn as a young boy or girl but still without distinct features except for their newly sprouting wings. They are a blank slate upon which you must teach them.
You must be especially careful at this stage, they are highly vulnerable and easily influenced!

Third Stage (all stages here after are fully original)
Depending how you raise them, your child starts to develop unique characteristics based on your descriptions from your journals/RP at the Sanctum.

Fourth Stage
Pre-teen. Sucks to be a kid.

Fifth Stage
Adolescence... watch out for those teens!

+ Yes, you must RP these! If your Herald is neglected, they will die ;_; See the next post for specifics concerning RP
+ you may co-own with only 1 other person as long as each participates at least the minimum time. If one parent is found to be neglecting their duties, the other will receive full custody.
+ no two of the same item may be scarificed!
+ items must be found on Gaia, and therefore please get the artists permission before using them. This is easily done by asking when ordering the picture. Of course this isn't necessary if you are the artist.

As has already been stated, the Heralds are RP intensive. Vian customizes each of them depending on how you RP them, so you see how important this is.


General RP Rules: Common Sense Stuff

+ No one-liners. The point of RPing is to develop your character's personality. It's hard to gain insight with responses of: "He walked in and sat down in a dark corner."
+ No god-moding. What does this mean? It's being invincible, it's controlling another person's character. For instance, "Sarielle lunged at Vian with a knife, killing him instantly." No no no! Sure, I can lunge at Vian with a knife ( xd ) but I have to wait for him to decide how badly his character is hurt, or even if I totally miss that time around. Not that we're expecting intense battles or anything. razz


Herald RP Rules: Relax, They're Not Bad

+ You will be given a new prompt every month that you will be expected to fulfill. All Heralds at the same stage of development will receive the same prompt.
+ The first scene that you will have to roleplay involves giving the item to the dying Herald. This will take place on the main thread. The other prompts will be answered in your journal.
+ Spontaneous RP between Heralds is definitely encouraged.
+ If you miss one monthly prompt without informing us of a legitimate reason ahead of time, your Herald will become very ill. Miss two and your Herald will die. ;_; And nobody wants that to happen.
+ We'd like to see at least two journal entries per week, providing you don't inform us of a good reason. We're not slavedrivers here, just give us a heads up.

To RP with the other Heralds, visit the HERALD SANCTUM. You may, of course, always RP informally right here on the main thread. ^^

Sacrifice Prompt:

When you come upon the scene, it is a weak and dying Herald that you find, unable even to stand. A few scattered feathers on the ground are the only remnants of the wings it once possessed. It has come to this place to die?.or be saved? That, of course, is up to you.

You are alone when you find the angel. The Heralds have long gone unsaved, and though it appears to you, it does not hold much hope of living on. Near to where the two of you meet rests a grey stone slab that the angel seems desperate to reach. With your help, the Herald climbs upon it, needing something from you to save its life. What will you choose to give it? And what significance does that item hold for you? Is it a family heirloom? Something you happened to have on hand? Something you'd purchased earlier that day? A lucky charm?

You may have noticed that many details have been left off. This is because we want you to have plenty of freedom to develop the scene yourself. Consider time of day, weather, season, etc. when you post.

Children will have a traits of both parents, and essentially be human. They do not have the same weakness as their parents and are less vulnerable to inflictions upon their wings.
2nd gen Heralds also start off as babies as they were born here. Yes, that means all 2nd gen Heralds stages have completely unique lineart.
There is no mating requirement, they can have as many different partners as they like but each caretaker can only come out with one child in the end.

Heralds:
+ only have as many children as there are caretakers (will explain more later on)
+ must both be adults before having children
+ have one child at a time
+ 2nd Gen children cannot have children. It is a genetic disfunction, therefore only 1st Gen can have children.

Selling of children:
+ this is highly discouraged as it would be traumatizing to your Herald
+ I'm sorry, but no gifting them away either as this could lead to bribing
+ however, if you feel the need to all sales must be through us If we find any illegal dealing, you will have your Herald taken away and both parties will be banned from the thread
+ Selling of children will be through auction only
+ We will receive 50% of all auctions to make-up for the costs of making them.
+ one caretaker must claim the child, as it is only one child per caretaker. How you split profits is up to you.

Q. How do I get one?
A. Through flatsale, auction, or event.

Q. How about pet trades? I'll trade you my flying monkey for one!
A. Vian very very rarely will accept a pet trade. You may however try temping Sarielle, but in general these won't be traded too often

Q. I can't afford it! It's too expensive!
A. A lot of work goes into these, and the sale costs were considered in that. If however you win a flatsale but don't have 15k, we can work something out. The only requirement is that 4.5k get paid up front.
Note this is only for flatsales, and not auctions or events

Q. How often do they change?
A. It depends on how you RP them, but roughly once a month. So they should properly age in that period to match. There may be delays if Vian is very busy though.

Q. Do I have to keep them in my sig?
A. No, this isn't a requirement to keep them in yours sigs/on your homepage. Just keep an eye on them and update your journal regularly.

Q. I want to help! Is there anything I can do?
A. At this moment there is only a need for a very good graphics person, and a certist. We will be willing to pay decently for this. Send applications, including samples, to the Herald account
