Top of the Dam

Standing atop the dam is a dizzying sight. The footing is rutty and uneven, as the dam is made largely out of cut logs from the forest. There are two levels at the top of the dam, the higher level is the inside, overlooking the resevoir: about ten feet across and fifteen feet higher than the lower level; the lower level is on the outside of the dam: about ten feet across. The dam is built between the two sheer cliff faces which make up the ravine, but there are ledges which can be climbed carefully to get off of the dam.

The front of the dam has a series of ladders built into it, with which the bottom can be reached safely. To fall from here would mean plummeting 200 feet onto the stones below, but with a good shove the cliff could be missed entirely and that would mean falling 300 feet to the base of the waterfall.

The waterlevel of the resevoir is currently about halfway up the back of the dam.

The Dam no longer exists.

A small group of men from the mining camp walked down the length of the dam, three on each level. They were checking things, making sure that the structure was doing well under the stress from the building water behind it.

One of the men leaned over the edge, looking down at the water level far below, and marked how high it was in a small book.

Still hugging the side of the ravine, he stopped a bit, catching his breath.

He wasn't that far off now... so still pressed tightly against the rock, he began to peer to the side, trying to catch a glimpse of where he was going to have to jump to in order to actually get on the damn thing.

Without even looking, he could hear the sounds of footfalls, and what sounded like quite the commotion going on even more farther away.

Leaning back, and steeling himself, Vahn pushed off the ledge and sent himself towards the closest bit of "ground", rolling along the top and coming to a halt in a kneeled postion, his coat covering most of his body.

"....."

Standing up quietly, he stared forward. Eyes narrowed as he caught sight of the first person in front of him. He was on platform overlooking the reservoir, and talking through some sort of radio.

Pushing forward into a straight run, the clanging of his greaves along wood and manhandled grating caused the man to actually look up--- just in time to get a facefull of boot.

There was a sickening crunch as his head twisted all the way around, before the other two men on the same platform actually got over the shock of seeing what had just happened.

Landing on the ground, and the body of the man flailing over the railing and falling into the waters was enough time for the other two on the higher platform to charge in, brandishing what was at hand.

With sickening accuracy, Vahn kicked in the left knee of the second man, causing him to fall right into his left fist, break jaw and nose in one fell hook.

The third came in swinging a large pipe wrench, which just narroly avoided denting in Vahn's skull. Having ducked and twisted to the side, Vahn turned it into a sweep which sent the man flat onto his back, before Vahn raised his right greave and viciously slammed it down against the man's throat, snapping the neck near-instantly.

Of course the three below had since been awares and radioed what was going on, unfortunately this lot was armed and under gunfire Vahn was forced to retreat to the side.

Ten men pulled themselves over the edge of the dam after a tiresome climb. Their guns were nearly empty on ammunition, if not entirely gone. They had small weapons on them, some had hand axes or knives, some had machettes or other tools...

Someone was up here, of this they were sure, and the spread out to look...

Finally coming up to the top Quin pulled himself up and over the edge tell he was ontop of the rather crude construction. It was amazing that they had done this with mostly limber.

Standing up he was covered with sweat that coursed down his flushed face and made the hair cling to the back of his neck. Placing his cane so that the head was firmly on the ground he straighten his back and began to channel energy back into his left leg.

[Unwritten Law - F.I.G.H.T.]

There shouts now, as reports came flooding in.

It wouldn't be long before people actually started looking up and realizing someone had beat them all to the punch.

Undoing the two front buckles, his coat began to flap more wildly, before completely sliding off and drifting into the air, off the dam. He had climbed his way directly onto the very top of the dam, balancing himself as carefuly as possible, before kneeling and gritting his teeth.

"Bring the rain."

His right hand gripped hold of his Fang and began to draw it out, the sickening sound of metal ringing clear into the air. His right arm began to glow a dark hue, the stiches lighting up he felt something well up inside his chest.

The first of the men from the finally came out shouting that they had found the intruder.

Drawing out the rapier, Vahn stabbed it directly into the wood of the dam, before meeting the man's charge headlong. He swung down and to the left with a full length axe, which was avoided with a small back hop. Avoiding another wild slash, Vahn's left fist came in clocking the guy straight across the jaw.

Sprawling out, Vahn took hold of the fallen man's axe, and hefted it fully, just in time to send it flying along the ground vertically-- making one poor sap lose use of his legs for good.

Yellowed eyes widened, as a single gunshot caught him unawares, catching him directly in the left shoulder. At the same time, two men came tackling in, trying to drive Vahn off the edge at apparently any cost.

s**t!!

However their wounding him would prove to be their undoing, as the man down around his waist would begin to cry out in sudden pain, hsi entire body dissolving into nothing but ashes as tendrils of blackened flame shot out from hsi body.

As the blood from his shoulder flowed, so did the rest of Vahn... who simply stood back up, with the remains of the men who had tried to stop him falling from his clothes.

A monster, that's what it was; but damn did that monster have class. His breathing was calmed down, but his pulse was quickinning. To fight a force of nature like this. He hadn't seen this level of destruction in a while and he was going to enjoy it. Tzeentch demanded he enjoyed the chaos of war.

And so chaos he was going to give, give and give untill he could give no more. Give himself up for the thrill of battle. Give himself to the battle, not to some idea; be it greed, freedom, or home. This was something on an animalistic level that scared yet pleased the other wise civilised man.

Tossing his cane to the side he drew his long sword and called out to the man that had torn through so many.

"What's your name?"

"I don't need a name!"

Flame-yellowed eyes stared out, even as his right hand took hold of the Fang once more. The mere touch seemed to resonate with the black flame spilling from the wound in his left shoulder-- as if calling out, crying out--

And the Fang responded in kind. The air grew heavier and heavier as the heat built up all around Vahn, like an unsee dome of pressure threatening to crush anything weak enough near him.

Lifting it free of the wood, he raised it and it's form, its very shape change, warped-- to something else.

Something more.

It's length lengthened, and its weight grew, turning into a flamberge. But the heat and the flames remained, flaring up all around his body as he stood there. The bandages on both his biceps began to sheer away into nothing as he built up the pressure.

The words said earlier made so much since about now, everyone did seem to be a pyro. Taking in a breath of air Quin grasped his sword with both hands in a mid level defensive guard.

"Well then..."

This was going to be interesting, though it was quite amusing for Quin. Here was a man bathed in fire as though it was as protective as his mothers womb while he himself frooze whenever he cast a spell. With the way things were the heat would only make sure he lasted that much longer.

Moving so that he was on the same level as Vahn Quin had raised himself up using his magic. Beads of sweat freezing and turning to steam as the distance between the two was closed.

There would be a good ten meters between them at the end of it.

"Maybe next time-- pretty boy!"

Giving off a wild toothy grin, Vahn raised his flamberge with both hands, point towards the ground itself.

Everything he had built up would be released at this point, even if it was nowhere near enough given proper time to charge.

He tapped into that same primal force of nature as when he had faced off against Chaos alongside those other two young men.

The flamberge would connect into the dam itself in one smooth stabbing motion as it's owner gave off a roar, shattering into the heavy wood, even as the blade gave off a tremendous shockwave of heated pressure.

Quote:
Explosion:
Efreet's Fang. A weapon not created by humans, but a weapon of legacy created for the terrastrial avatar: Efreet. It is a blade that stands on top of all others in the category of flame swords. An amplifier that transforms the owner's will into "flame", and increasing the kinetic momentum by convergence and acceleration, it is a flame sword that makes use of Avatar class flames possible.

From a third person, it looks like a gigantic ray of light, but the attacking point is just the tip of the light. It is the "Ultimate slash" which tears apart all objects that the "layer" passes through. Its massive will lets it carry heat other than its tip, and as a result, it can be taken as a wave of light that sweeps the earth. It can also be said as an energy weapon with a direction.

CR-RACK!!!

The beam would carry on through the entire dam's weakened structure from the top to bottom, cracking it slowly but surely, creating a giant divide... a "Heaven's Divide", as excess heat exploded outwards.

As for anyone near 'ground zero', well...

All this way for nothing, Quin couldn't help but laugh as the man performed his action. Well it would be a show, and a damn good show at that. When Vahn slammed his swords tip into the wood Quin was sheathing his sword and smiling serenly.

In the next few moments he would be needing all the magical energy he could gather to him. He had to ride out this storm and he had to survive. Too much rode on his life, just far too much to go down easily without a fight.

Already Quin could feel the dam start to sag and give way as the structural integrity was broken, so much for the truck at the bottom, so much for all the others down there.

CRACK!

The dam split in twain, right down the center, as flames burst through the wood which had held it all together.

At the top of the dam, the structure split in two and began to drift apart as the explosion roared down to the base.

The water was being released, and it was going to take this structure and everyone on it with for a wild ride...
PostPosted: Fri Aug 11, 2006 7:54 pm

And that was his cue to leave, exit stage left, or in this case a mad dash for the cliff's edge.

Quin knew that the entire structure was fall apart. That from the strike at the center the water pressure was swinging both sides open like a set of doors; but that was it. They weren't just being pushed to the side, they were being thrown aside to land where they may.

Having no intention of dieing and making a mad scramble for the safety of high ground. The magic he had conjured surged about his feet, keeping him steady as the world around him was rumbling. Raising him higher as water rose to crest and cascade over the faltering dam.

A literal Jesus like moment as Quin was held above a rushing torrent of water pushing its way as he was reaching the cliff.

Freezing as he was he leapt the last few feet and made it to the higher ground, higher ground that was stable for the time being.

There was a bit of staggering as what he had done washed over him.

He hadn't exactly thought it comepletely through... as usual. Damn---! Eyes widened, as he lost his footing completely and began to drift to the side, before gravity lay hold of him... and tossed him along.

It was all he could do to hold onto his Fang, even as the torrent of water buffeted him-- his only saving grace were the remains of the platforms.

Feeling his left shoulder go numb, he continued his descent to the bottom of the dam itself, somewhat riding the wave.
