I know that we are the Literate FanGIRLS, but how picky is the Guild about gender? I have a male friend on Gaia (Auberon Fayadeen) who wanted to know if he could join the Literates.
Are guys generally eligible to join, or do they have to possess special encyclopedic knowledge of Tolkien to apply? Are males a threat to us, or would more inclusion be adventageous?
Any opinions? Oooh, I'll make a poll!

I think so. There are some guys out there who like the movies, just because they think the female chracters are hot and handle swords well, or because the movies have intense fight scenes with blood and gore and death. Well, there are other guys out there, too, who appreciate the books, because of their true awesomeness; this guild could be a place of sane discussions and such for them.

Sure, as long as they aren't turned off by being officially known as fangirls. xd

I rather enjoy being called a fangirl, despite my fanguy-ness.

Serni Morrauk I rather enjoy being called a fangirl, despite my fanguy-ness. Heh heh. Yeah, I think your friend would fit in! I agree. My impression at least of why the guild was named literate fangirls is because there are so many illiterate fangirls that have only seen the movies, but really not that many illiterate fanguys. At least if there are then they don't come on Gaia or other Lord of the Rings sites as much as the girls do. So it was named literate fangirls. I don't know if that makes sense. I'm tired so I'm not very good at explaining things right now, but I hope that at least somebody will get it.

Wow, not too surprisingly the consensus is that nearly everyone thinks that fanboys can be fangirls! Err... That sounds a bit weird, but fanpeople sounds weirder. biggrin

I've always thought of it as fanboy also, not fanguy.

Of course fanboys are allowed! I don't know what we'd do without the ones we have now. Maybe I should mention something about it in the rules....
