Posters have been showing up all over Destiny City, advertising a…singing competition?

Seems someone’s putting together a boy band called Star Eclipse, and while 4 of 5 members have been chosen, they’re looking for a fifth. If you’re a young man, ages 18 to 25, and you like to sing….this could be your big break!

There’s also a promise of free food in the green room. So that’s as good a reason as any to show up.

The old Starbright Theater is now under new management, and it’s the location of the Star Search. The place has sat abandoned for years, but you wouldn’t know it, coming in; it’s been renovated and modernized, with comfortable seating and a great big plasma display behind the stage.

On stage, the four existing members of Star Eclipse—Vasily Voronin, Aleksey Lebedev, Rory Kae, and Emil Grimmstone—sit behind a metal folding table, in comfy-enough looking chars, prepared to judge performances all day.

There’s plenty of space in the audience to relax, chat, and watch people audition. Admission is free, but there’s plenty of people selling snacks and even…..Star Eclipse merch? Maybe it’s a little early for t-shirts, but hey, if you buy one, you can say you were there at the beginning.

At the front of the crowd sits a stern blonde woman; she won’t speak to anyone, but seems to be taking copious notes. Perhaps better to leave her alone.

Quote:
AS AN OOC NOTE, the winner of the competition has already been OOCly decided. This is not a concept contest, and there are no prizes except for the joy of silly RP! All of these threads are regulars, and will count for requirements as long as you get 500 words!

These are all freeform RPs, and there will be no prompts posted; the RPs will close on Friday, August 15th and characters can freely enter or leave at any time during those two weeks!

Alexander was too old for consideration, even if he thought that he had something of a decent singing voice, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to enjoy himself; he loves a show.

The moment he had arrived at the theatre the merch booth was hit up, swapping out his button-down for a shirt of the four members with the space left for the coming fifth. It was a tight fit, but he wasn't one to complain about that. After the merch stand he bought himself a small trove of snacks, prepping for a long haul in the audience space apparently. Far as he was concerned, this was a chance to not just see who the next star was, but also who in the city was also good at singing; maybe pick up some new artists to follow from the local scene.

Snacks in hand, merch on body, Alexander made his way over to as center a seat as he could in the rows, trying to keep a good angle on the stage for performers.

"Alright, let the show begin..."

Kiyoshi Sakurazawa

Under most circumstances, Kiyoshi showing up to something other than the gym in pants rather than a skirt might’ve counted as a sign that the world was ending. Yet, as he and Elior came into the old theatre, Kiyoshi stood beside his boyfriend in a pair of cute black shorts with shimmery, brightly colored patches on the back-right pocket (one shaped like a rainbow and the other, a star). Although the shorts weren’t so tiny as to be indecent, the sheer length of Kiyoshi’s legs left plenty of smooth, brown skin exposed.

Because it was unthinkable that he might not look cute, Kiyoshi had paired the shorts with a black tie-up blouse. Babydoll neckline, short peasant sleeves. Embroidered details that he’d done himself, a mix of blood red snakes and rose blossoms done in vivid violet. For the lacing up the front, he’d removed the original black thread and replaced it with a length of cotton candy pink ribbon.

“Wow, this place is looking a lot better than the last time I remember being in this part of town,” Kiyoshi said, looking around the lobby.

Although he didn’t immediately choose a direction to go in, Kiyoshi let his eyes wander every which way and drink in everything they could. Anything to distract himself from continuing the story of the last time he’d been near the Starbright Theatre, really, because it would all too quickly get distressing. Nothing had happened to Kiyoshi—then, still Reiki—himself, but his ex-drag brother had certainly been going through it. And Kiyoshi cared about how Elijah had been going through it back then. He cared about how the goss from Yuki said that Elijah hadn’t been handling Reiki’s alleged disappearance very well. At the moment, Kiyoshi caring was the entire problem.

So help him, Kiyoshi had endured enough stress recently. Today, he was going to have a nice. ********. time. with Elior.

To that end, he stopped by one of the lobby’s cocktail tables. This one had what looked like trading cards—sixteen different varieties, with piles of them arranged in a 4x4 square. Didn’t take super close examination to reveal that the cards all had photos of the same four boys from the shirts and posters going around. With so many options before him, Kiyoshi glanced over all of them multiple times, for fractions of a second each time, before any of them really managed to stand out in his brain.

What the table distinctly lacked: any kind of price listing. Instead, a little sign made out of folded cardstock advertised the photocards as free to any fans or future fans.

“Damn, that’s smart advertising, giving the photo-cards away for free.”

Compelled by the clashing color palette, Kiyoshi picked up a card of some violet-eyed blond, who stood out in a garden somewhere. A halo of lilac blossoms surrounded his head, shoulders, and chest, and the boy turned his face away from the viewer, not fully into profile, as if he meant to bury it in the flowers. Shadow fell artfully over one half of that face, but didn’t entirely obscure the boy’s sharp features. Looking more than slightly out of step with the year 2025, his outfit was nevertheless immaculately tailored: a gray frock coat with a green carnation pinned to the lapel, unbuttoned so one could more easily appreciate the tight cut of the boy’s black trousers and waistcoat. Despite having turned his face away, the boy managed to look right at the camera, fixing the viewer with a stare that was probably quite arresting for anyone who wanted it to be.

On the flipside of the card, a brief profile named this particular boy band twink “Aleksey.” Of the few personal details listed, the one that most caught Kiyoshi’s eye was the listing for Aleksey’s alleged favorite books: Interview with the Vampire, and The Master and Margarita. Couldn’t fault the guy for good taste, Kiyoshi supposed.

“Guess I found the one who can read,” he said playfully, tilting the card so Elior could see the photo on its front. “Full Dorian Gray cosplay on a boy band photo-card, plus the green carnation easter egg? Even the coat’s a reference. The color, obviously, but frock coats didn’t usually have chest pockets……except there’s a famous photo of Oscar Wilde wearing one that did.” Between that and the splash of color staining the boy’s lips scarlet, exactly how Oscar had described Dorian’s? Kiyoshi had to admire the eye for detail on the part of whoever had designed and directed this shoot. “The only thing they got wrong is that Dorian would never wear an Ariana Grande high-pony, but what do I know? Maybe that’s part of his signature look? Either way, somebody really wants us to know how smart they think this boy is.”

Whether the somebody in question was this Aleksey himself or not, eh. Kiyoshi couldn’t say.

If anything, coming to watch the auditions was a nice chance to see the old Starbright's shiny new skin. His parents would absolutely hate it, but the update was comfortable and didn't give quite as much of a watch for needles vibe. Settling in next to Eles, he eyed first the group on stage, then the food and merch floating past the aisles.

Leaning closer to the other boy, he murmured, "The pretty one, the cool one, the jock, and the wild one. No little brother type, though. So when you see a short and cute sort take the stage, I bet that's the planned winner."

Raising a hand toward one of the vendors, he got them a bucket of fresh popcorn. No drinks, though, since they'd snuck in their own.

"The blue boy could benchpress me one handed, but I think I'd let the blonde twunk be super mean to me."

Baz Lemarchand

Anyone catching a glimpse of Baz and Gwendolyn out in the theatre’s lobby could’ve clocked their relationship to each other. Her hair, styled into two low-riding braided twist buns was pink all the way through, unlike his high ponytail with the blonde-pink ombre. Their eyes—his emerald green and hers a rich electric blue—spoke to the fact that one of their dads had fathered Baz while the other had fathered Gwen. Still, their facial features looked so similar—delicate, but angular, and pale in a way that made for very pretty blushes—nobody would deny that they were siblings.

Jayce didn’t fit in with them quite as well as they did with each other, taller, darker-featured, and bulkier than both siblings. They didn’t dress very much the same either. Nothing of Baz’s would have fit Jayce anyway, and he didn’t imagine Jayce would feel his best in a pleated black mini-skirt with a pattern of heart-shaped cherries printed on it. Very much not Jayce’s usual style, so unlikely to make him feel comfortable and confident. But resemblance or not, Baz stuck close to Jayce’s side regardless, even as Gwen started flitting around the lobby’s cocktail tables, collecting photo-cards of the boys in the band.

From the outside, Baz imagined it looked rather like he was clinging to a bodyguard, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth. Part of coming out for all this was about getting poor Jayce a break—everything going on with Waru for the past few months had more than taken its toll on Baz’s friend—and that filled Baz with the impulse to Fuss.

For now, he kept that impulse limited to his physical proximity and the question, “Do you want me to grab you a drink or anything before we find seats? I……” He trailed off as Gwen returned to them, her hands overflowing with photo-cards. Peering over her shoulder at the one on top, Baz frowned. “Oh, don’t get your hopes up about that one, Gwen. I don’t think you’re his type……nor any other young lady, for that matter.”

Maybe Baz was wrong and the photo-card shot of this particular boy band twink—Vasiliy, according to the name embossed on the card—just looked a certain way? But between the arched back, the bedroom eyes, and the whole vibe of everything? Baz felt pretty confident in guessing that either he or Jayce could’ve topped this Vasiliy, but through no fault of her own, definitely not Gwen.

Lovely Belrose

Lovely sank into a chair at the back of the theater and propped his Chuck Taylored feet onto the back of the chair in front of him. With ripped shorts showing entirely too much skin and his hair—at its summer shoulder length—pulled into an artfully messy ponytail to show off his heavily pierced ears, one might assume he had a penchant for attention. Today, that assumption was countered by a nondescript oversized hoodie with the hood drawn up in an attempt to shield him from wandering eyes.

He had told Ilian, passionately and repeatedly, that he wouldn’t be caught dead at some stupid ******** boy band competition, yet there he was anyway.

Somehow Ilian always managed to sweet talk him into the most annoying s**t.

Maybe if Ilian had sat with him, Lovely could have been tempted into a better mood; the back of the theater would’ve been the perfect place to make out. But no. No. Ilian had decided he wanted to audition. Nevermind that he was technically too old for it. Why should a stupid thing like age stop him from having little fun? (Ilian’s words, not Lovely’s. Lovely would never describe this bullshit as fun.)

I’ll make it up to you after, Ilian had said. And, Besides, you’re in Infiltration. We should Infiltrate.

As if Lovely cared to infiltrate a ******** boy band. He should’ve extended their vacation. They could have still been sailing around the Mediterranean, eating better food than Destiny City could provide and luxuriating in the sun on some majestic beach.

Instead he sat there glaring at the young men on stage as if they’d caused him a personal offense, as unimpressed by them as he was by everyone else in existence.

Jayce Demos

If he was being quite honest, Jayce had no real desire to go out and do much of anything outside of working out. He'd thrown himself into the task, and spent more nights than usual with his streaming channel. The pay was pretty good, and his fans were excited to see him more than twice a week. A few of his more dedicated viewers were concerned with how tired he seemed to though, and threw extra cash his way to go get some sleep and relax.

Waru was... a mess. The team was a mess. Somehow, he'd become the talk therapist of the group and he wasn't exactly sure if he wanted that role. Faustite was - and was not - Faustite, Waru was blind in one eye, Kiri was silent, Hestia and Borax seemed to be handling s**t just fine (thank the gods). Cass wasn't his to try to talk to or console. Eles was a lovely fun escape, but he had other commitments too. Which left Jayce listless, kinda depressed, and overworking himself to the point of exhaustion, just so he passed out without issue.

But, when Baz said he and his sister were going to watch the idol additions for the new boy band, he pulled on a pair of jeans that would have been baggy on anyone else and a faded nerdy t-shirt that clung to his chest like shrink wrap. He might not have had much interest in the boy band's music, but hot boys were hot boys. Moreover, he didn't want to let Baz and Gwen go alone. Jayce doubted anything would happen but large groups of crowds were magnets for something to go a** up. Even if that was just a human crush of people, he could stand as a wall and keep the two from getting swashed.

He kept an eye on Gwen as she flitted around the booths and let out a deep chuckle at the photo card on top. "He either bottoms or is the brattest top ever," he said, taking the stack from her to flick through them. "Sorry Gwen, pretty sure all of 'em are gay AF."

Jayce did smile at Baz over Gwen's head. "A drink would be lovely, thank you."

Eles oi Ekthrónismenoi

Malory settled in and Eles settled against him, preferring to angle his entire body toward the boy whose shoulder he used for a pillow. Resting between his thighs was a largely untouched bottle of Coke, which proved a very companionable addition to the pocket flasks. Malory's attention was on the boys who begged for said attention from the audience, so Eles's gaze swept over the swath of people below them. The watchers seldom expected to be watched themselves; who knew what sorts of s**t they would be getting up to tonight?

Eles hummed, thoughtful for his midnight boy's observations, then chose to trust them instead of stare at the boy band for himself. "Sounds like they're lacking a broody goth-type, too. Think you'd rather be the frontman, though. And you'd out-pretty them." Spoken as fact and mild slight.

"Oh, do they plan the winners for these things beforehand?" Eles hadn't considered that before. What was the point of an audition, then? Drive up publicity? He gave it a perfunctory thought as he absconded with a handful of popcorn.

He missed both the blue-haired one and the blonde twunk as he peered through the audience; he thought he saw a boy he vaguely recognized sitting next to some other boy with blue hair. "So," he began after he swallowed, "who do you think would sleep through the entire band first? You or me?"

Malory Medraut

Accepting the praise as fact, Malory looped an arm around Eles's shoulders, closing the gap between them even more. "I'm an actor, this would be a downgrade." Also he liked to monopolize his stages, which would only work for this sort of thing if a family member or "personal sponsor" was a major investor in the project.

"This sort of group is a business decision," he explained quietly, leaning close but keeping his eyes on the stage. "So events like this are about business. Who they pick? Business. And it's never as simple as 'Oh, they just have so much talent.'"

A boy came on stage, looking very much like he just woke up and was rolling in late for his 1pm liberal arts course, carrying a guitar. He was definitely not the plant. "You would," and the smile was clear in Malory's voice. "You're a sneaky ******** slut."

As the song began, he finally turned to look at Eles and quietly sang on time, "A guy like you, should wear a warning. It's dangerous, I'm falling."

Alexander Ortiz

As the room started to fill in more, Alexander took a moment to look around at the people. He noted the presence of more folks in groups, scolding himself gently for not asking someone to come join him. It was better to experience things with more people. Maybe he should've asked Anna? Well, it was too late for that now. He was already here and expected it was going to start going soon, so not like he could ask her suddenly.

"Oh wait, there's someone... Though they don't look... happy about being here..." He muses to himself as he catches sight of Lovely. "Ah well, maybe we can keep each other brooding company!"

It takes a moment to shuffle through the seats and isn't hard to notice the big man moving through the crowd and sometimes just over rows of seats to make it further back towards where Lovely had sat. No need to draw attention to both of them being alone, he figured, so best to just strike with a conversation.

"So, who do you think they'll pick to be a fifth? My money is on picking a gal, as a real shake up to the boy band concept." He says, offering a smile to Lovely in greeting.
