CIV CHARACTERS & NPCs OF INTEREST.

• Avery Arden: 30. Recently relocated to Destiny City after living in the woods of rural Maine for almost a decade. Currently spends a lot of time around a city community center with his grandparents, who teach classes there. Can also be found hanging around Shulang Xiang/Dunnottar of Lysithea, but Avery doesn’t know anything about the magical knight stuff yet.
  
  
• Elijah Suzuki: 23. Muri’s former drag brother (the breakup was only a side-effect of the purification, about which Elijah currently knows nothing). Where Muri plays with a lot of ideas but does still usually stick to Queen Drag, Elijah dabbles in king drag, queen drag, ******** drag, and pretty much everything as long as he can make himself a beautiful monster. He doesn’t believe that Muri “just went missing” and has conspiracy theories about it. Most likely found distributing handmade zines all over town and hitting on your dad.
  
  
• Huanjing Guo: 12 years old, a student at Knightside. She takes violin lessons with Kaifeng and unbeknownst to both of them, is actually his niece (daughter of his eldest sister and the brother-in-law Kaifeng struggles to remember despite having met Chunmian “for the first time” on several occasions). Huanjing is cheerful, gregarious, and she likes pirates. You have ten fingers? She has ten fingers! Let’s be friends!
  
  
• Hyacinthus Mercar: 27 and an “independent scholar” (which means that he has a trust fund financing his little self-directed research projects but isn’t currently in graduate school). He already has a PhD (in Philosophy, from NYU), but he’s probably going to go back to school for another one someday. In the meantime, he’s been trying to stay sober with somewhat mixed results, teaching his seven cats how to use buttons to talk to him (the buttons play pre-recorded words), and waiting for me to make him a Moon Knight.
  
  
• Lindsey Moran: 50 and still in a punk band. Experienced a lot of grief-frozen arrested development and only finally accepted himself as a gay man in 2023. By day, Lindsey has a legit job at an advertising firm; he wound up in advertising mostly by accident but it pays the bills. Proud dad to Aubrey, a 15-year-old Azure Valley student (rising sophomore). Amicably divorced from Eileen, his ex-wife/his kid’s cool goth mom. Two years sober (his vice was alcohol) and a regular presence at the sobriety support group meetings at the Cherry Street LGBTQ+ community center.
  
  
  • His band is a queercore band called The Auntie Flames. Sonically, think Pansy Division, Green Day, early Hole, Sleater-Kinney, and early Fall Out Boy.
  
  
• Qiye Qinxiao: Currently an NPC rather than a full civ character in hir own right, but she’s on my priority list to finish questing. 31 years old. Selenga’s wifesband and Kaifeng’s favorite cousin. If you’re a Knight, Qiye will probably Mom or Big Sister you if you stand still long enough in hir presence.
  
  
• Simon Farkas: 35. A nurse practitioner at Destiny City Memorial Hospital. He’s probably the most boring person in the universe and definitely not worth your time to be interested in.…… At least, this is true if you ask Simon. In reality, he will do things like casually reveal something about how many languages he has studied (Hebrew, Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, and Latin) in the middle of conversation and passive-aggressively fight an anti-vaxx parent, then expect you to continue thinking he is really very boring. Lives with his older sister Tabitha and her wife, Rhonda.
  
  
• Yuki Tsukiyama: 34. Muri’s “best guy”/queerplatonic partner and one of the more regular stabilizing presences in his life who will tell him “Kiyoshi, no.” One of the only people who is allowed to call him “********,” and the one who first gave him that name. Anyway, Yuki is a video-gaming journalist with channels on Youtube and Twitch. Extroverted and chatty, adaptable and lets a lot of things slide pretty easily, but also very blunt while not being able to take what he dishes out, averse to being the one who has to fight for something, and oooooh, he needs to drop everything right now to play this French Revolution-themed fighting game to make sure their takes on Charlotte Corday and Camille Desmoulins are good. Because if their take on those characters are bad, ******** will be upset about it.

Additionally: Muri’s mom, Noshiko, and Obaasan, Murasaki, are great. Kāifēng has his college bestie Hayden, who Suffers, and his beloved eldest sister Xiuying, with whom he has recently reunited (also, her husband, Chunmian). Andesine got her entire energy-draining gacha game idea from watching her brother drop hundreds of dollars on gacha games and fight with his fiancé about it.

Assorted people Vanya has mentioned during his delivery boy adventures: Cheryl from work who’s like 6’2” and ripped and gifted Vanya opening night tickets for the Barbie movie; the coven of anarchist lesbians who’ve kinda adopted him as Their Delivery Boy; Mr. & Mrs. Nagisa, who own and run the restaurant where he’s employed; the uncle from whom he stole his vinyl copy of Queen’s A Night At The Opera, autographed by Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon; and his parents but if any family of his turns up in Destiny City, it will be Uncle Grisha.

SOME BASICS

• 30. He/she/they/any. Gender is a virus from outer space. Imported to DC from Boston, but does his best to downplay his accent.
  
  
• Independent musician and composer, which in practice means that a lot of his income comes from Patreon, Youtube, Tiktok, Spotify, etc. He does a lot of cover songs, but also shares original music.
  
  
• Extroverted. Upbeat. Loves to laugh. Has been taking therapy more seriously lately, but there’s still a lot of unresolved issues he needs to work on. Outwardly maintains that he’s just a silly lil’ guy with no secrets or deep, dark wells of trauma or anything.
  
  
• Very often found patrolling and going on Wonder visits with his Deep Space zhīyīn (TL;DR: “the one who knows the melody of my soul”; longer explanation for the curious), Huanxi Xin/Helene of Inhibition.
  
  
• You know the “Someone will die” “—of FUN!!! =D” meme? Kaifeng is the “—of FUN!!! =D” friend.
  
  
• Will act like a cool older brother to any free-range White Moon child/teen who stands still long enough and gives him room to do so. He’s very proud to see you kids standing up for something and he hopes to give you advice, encouragement, and whatever other cool older brother things you might need.
  
  
• Dog dad to a shelter rescue pit mix named Táotáo (桃桃, “peaches”). Dressed her up in a little dragon costume for Lunar New Year 2024, and he will almost definitely have a little snake-themed costume for Lunar New Year 2025.

LOOKING FOR / PLAYING WITH HIM

• Friends! Hello, Order people! He has just met you and he’s going to befriend you, this is just happening.
  
  
• Especially fellow Saturn Knights! Hi, friends! You may not know it yet, but you and he are going to be great friends, okay? (This goes for any Knights, really. He thinks you’re all great and doing amazing until proven otherwise.)
  
  
• Deep Space Senshi! Have you been introduced to human music? He would love to provide recs! Please teach him about music from your homeworlds? emotion_kirakira
  
  
• If you want some kind of backstory connections with Xīngyì-Kaifeng for your DSS or just in general, hmu! Liánlí-Kaifeng is very interested in his past life.
  
  
• Would you like your Negaverse or Dark Mirror character to fight someone who will be excessively pleasant and nice to them? Even if they are, for example, stabbing him? Hi, there, may I offer you a nice Kāifēng in these trying times?
  
  
• Good For: Quickie battles (anybody’s victory). Random chats (can start them easily). Homeworld/Wonder visits.
  
  
• *NOT* Good For: Chaos blood pressure (will be cheerful and pleasant while you’re beating him up).

SOME BASICS

• Tall (6’10”) slab of alien beefcake with pointy ears and a tiger tail. Very poorly socialized with an equally bad disposition.
  
  
• Grouchy. Possessive. Fighty. Has all the chill of a busted freezer. Thinks that hinges are for doors, so he doesn’t need any.
  
  
• Very attached to Lanting of Ida/Shuangxu Feng. The history there is complicated.
  
  
• The present day involves a lot of Belle cooking, cleaning, doting Shuangxu, and stitching together handmade ragdolls for him. 10/10, will allow a skinny, 5’4” gamer boy to boss him around or make puppy eyes until Belle does things that he may not want to do otherwise.
  
  
• But you’re not Shuangxu, so you probably won’t get to see that side of him.
  
  
• Belle would tell you that he is incredibly well adjusted and perfectly normal. He isn’t even lying when he says that. He just has no frame of reference for concepts like “No, your experiences are not universal, most people call that serious trauma.”
  
  
• Either takes things super-seriously or literally cannot be bothered to give a ********. Wants to tear Chaos throats out with his teeth. Or his bare hands. Or push Chaos off a roof into a dumpster. Whatever works, really.
  
  
• If you can get past all the glaringly obvious character defects, he’s ride or die loyal, protective, and kinda like a very big puppy disguised as an enormous beefcake space-Tiefling.
  
  
• Even so, no one can blame you for getting hung up on his flaws when they’re punching you in the face, and that statement is probably very literal.
  
  
• Assert dominance by putting him in his place early and you can probably get him to behave for you specifically.

LOOKING FOR / PLAYING WITH HIM

• Reqs Needed: 5 Battles, 12 Regs, 12 Solos / 4 Regs.
  
  
• Any other Koronis asteroid senshi out there? He’s obnoxious about thinking the Koronis senshi are better than everyone and he wants to know how you’re doing. If you’re with Chaos, PLEASE hit me up, it will break his heart to see one of his fellow Koronis senshi polluted by Chaos, which sounds fun. emotion_kirakira
  
  
• Good For: Battles (anybody’s victory, though I do like letting other people beat him for the “******** around and find out” of it all). Cautiously getting to know more about the DMC (they’re weird and he doesn’t understand them, but he wants to). Giving you a very unique perspective on space history.
  
  
• *NOT* Good For: Behaving himself with the Negaverse (their Chaos feels more actively hostile to him, so he will try to bite it). Behaving himself with a lot of Order characters either (he’s poorly socialized and not very good at being nice).

*NOT* interested in: Death, corruption, maiming (at least nothing long-term debilitating, feel free to beat him up otherwise).

SOME BASICS

• 26. He/him. Imported to DC from Shreveport, Louisiana, but he tries to downplay his accent.
  
  
• On the Internet, he has a small legion of side-accounts that he uses to troll people. Some of them have elaborate backstories, different circles they run in, and unique styles of bad take. They provide him a site of escapism and a way to get yelled at in public, thus affirming his negative self-image.
  
  
• In meatspace, he’s a scrawny hipster who tends to avoid getting in fights (unless it’s about Cinema), defaults to either the “flight” or “fawn” response when Conflict happens (varies by situation), and perpetually looks like he slept in a dumpster or on a park bench last night.
  
  
• He brought DSS Achird of Aubergines home with him in January 2023 and soon thereafter lost his bed to a pushy, bitchy rich boy from outer space. Vanya’s been sleeping on his secondhand futon since then because there was only one bed, it wasn’t big enough to share, and Winston just kinda took it.
  
  
• Wishes he were Good Enough to go to film school and become an Auteur. Instead, he’s a delivery boy/multipurpose waitstaff for a family-owned Japanese restaurant. He also wishes Francis Ford Coppola were his real dad, but if you ask him, some things just aren’t meant to be.
  
  
• He’ll lie because he likes you and doesn’t want you to leave him. He will withdraw if you seem annoyed with him because he expects you to get sick of him eventually. He is a pathetic wet rat of a man who believed until very recently that he was 0% magical and prefers to pack up his silly little rucksack and run away from problems rather than deal with them.
  
  
• He’s dating Aokigahara of Saturn, but he doesn’t entirely understand how he got this lucky.
  
  
• Can someone please be proud of him? Like, ********, he’s trying.

LOOKING FOR / PLAYING WITH HIM

• Reqs Needed: 6 Battles, 11 Regs, 12 Solos (or 4 Regs).
  
  
• He isn’t per se “out of play,” at the moment? But he has a plot in progress that’s a little bit backdated and he isn’t going to be super available for plots or threads until it’s done. He has a nearly-done thread to get through, a solo that I need to write, and then probably a follow-up thread to that solo. When those things are done, Vanya/Farbauti will be more available for things!
  
  
• Good For: Battles (your character is almost definitely going to win). Random chats (Order strongly preferred). Choosing pretty much any option out BUT “fight” out of “Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn.”
  
  
• Bad For: Standing up for himself. Quick tags (my muse for Farbauti is very quick to shrink back and let any of my other characters go first).

Chatty, sociable, and pleasant when you’re nice to her, and a snide, snarky little brat when you super-rudely come up while she’s just doing her reading for class and get all mad about her letting a Mirrorwraith go drain some people. Likes arguing for the sake of arguing. Allergic to introspection.
  
  
• Cousin/roommate to Leandro/Læraðr of Neptune. Magical girl cross-faction dating Demeter of Agriculture (has not yet met Demeter while they’re powered down as Gabi and Autumn). Recent dog-parent to a German Shepherd/unknown terrier mix named Bruiser Esparza.
  
  
• Basically, a professional nuisance and Youngest Sibling Syndrome incarnate.
  
  
• Actively doing her best to resist anything that looks like positive character development or learning a lesson from anything that happens to her, ever.

• Battles, battles, battles! Do you have an Order character who needs a battle to Awaken? Do you need somebody to fight for growth reqs? Because Lete is more of a low-grade nuisance villain than, like, an actual threat. Heeeey, come on, she’s just a little guy!! It’s her birthday!!
  
  
• Do you want to come see her Mirrorspace realm? She’s working on growing it into something fun. Right now, she’s created some space to plant things (and put down some black roses, thanks to one of Muri’s unique crystals), and she’s eager to do more with her special place. It’s really fun there, you should come visit!!
  
  
• Good For: Quickie battles (anybody’s victory). Random chats (Chaos only if powered). Being a nuisance (A+ opponent for White Moon awakenings).
  
  
• *NOT* Good For: White Moon blood pressure. Being an actual threat to anyone but herself. Behaving properly. Subtlety.

SOME BASICS

• Oh, look, it’s another alien senshi. This one comes in “weird, mermaid-adjacent” flavor!
  
  
• Strictly speaking, he’s only amphibious on his own home-world, but he’d still prefer to be in water than on land.
  
  
• Grumpy. Standoffish. Frequently an a*****e (in a “judges your choices, steals your food, thinks chibis should be taught how to knife-fight” kind of way). But he’s more open to the concept of playing nicely with others than Corvina, so he might be weird and a little unhinged at you, but he can get along with people.
  
  
• His favorite hobby is lying—or, more specifically, making up wild backstories for himself that literally never happened and taking people for a ride just to see how far he can go before they press “X” to Doubt.
  
  
• Freshly arrived on Earth (like, landed in a park during the Biolumina Club opening). Living at Helfeng’s Home For Wayward Space Senshi because: A., Kaifeng is perpetually compelled to help out space senshi, and B., Heibing’s old friend Rylafein/DSS Pyrrhus of Nihility is already there, too.
  
  
• If you knew him during the Silver Millennium, he was much more of a party boy, but in that way that makes you want to ask if someone is trying to get themself killed. The vibe was somewhere at the intersection of Sia’s “Chandelier” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank).”
  
  
• Will probably perch like L. Death Note. Will absolutely steal your cake like L. Death Note.

LOOKING FOR / PLAYING WITH HIM

• Order people! Do you have water on your world or at your wonder? Water that he can swim in? He wants to awkwardly befriend you and come swim there.

• Bad For: Respecting statements like “That’s not yours” when applied to food.
