Branching RP

Quote:
Prompt 1: The group has split up; while a large number of people remain in the storage wing, you have decided to help clear out some of the smaller rooms. Things are packed more securely here, and while there are some oddities on display, for the most part everything is secured in an array of wooden, stone, or metal boxes of varying security. You may see a strange item here or there, or something that catches your eye. There is an undeniably weird hum of energy in the room but Almadel has trusted you to behave.

While you must stay in the area, you can investigate anything. You can PM The Space Cauldron or DM xigglet on Discord if you want to check anything before posting; you can also ask if you can interact with anything or gain extra information about something your character is involved in. It is possible to find an artifact or relic that is some way important or relevant to your character but you must have permission. If you are interested in finding something, please be prepared to give a physical description and any relevant lore; we can work things out with you.

As you investigate, you hear a strange noise. Roll a 1d4 to locate it.
If you roll 1 it is coming from an air vent
If you roll a 2 it is coming from a storage box
If you roll a 3 it is coming from the wall
If you roll a 4 it is coming from under the floor

You can decide how to get to them; you may be fortunate and find a loose tile but you may have to break something to reach them (at player choice). Just remember that Almadel wants his museum in the best condition possible…

Quote:
Prompt 2: You have located the sound–Kosopods, ranging from six inches to two feet wide. They are hard shelled isopods with many legs and prickly tails. They can be nearly any neutral color, it just depends on what they have been eating. They will immediately try to scatter. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have located; you can decide their size.

Quote:
Prompt 3: The Kosopods immediately attack. They are frantic and hungry; they can spit acid that causes agitation and eventually burns through things and they have many sharp legs and sharp points on their shells. They can bite. Their shells are very hard and they can only be damaged by flipping them over to expose their delicate underbelly or possibly by overwhelming them with magic. They cannot be starseeded. They are vulnerable to fire but it might not be a good idea to start setting things ablaze if you want to stay on Almadel’s good side. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have defeated; if you roll lower than the last prompt, you will need to roll again until you defeat them all or hope that your allies rolled high enough to take out some of yours as well. If you roll a higher number here than you did in prompt 2, you can help your allies.

Quote:
Prompt 4: Once the Kosopods have been defeated, you can take a moment to breathe. It sounds like things have calmed down outside in the large room that you arrived in. You can look around the area if you like (and if you sent anything in to find or examine, you can identify it now. It may be possible to steal small items from Almadel if you have sent in for approval). This post can be considered an exit or you can continue roleplaying until you are ready to leave. You can rejoin the closing post of the ORP when it is announced! This should be on Friday the 30th. While you do not need to have this RP finished at the time of the close, please try to close this RP promptly! You must write 500 words in this RP to be eligible for the prize!

Lucien - Cat Form

Lucien and Soleiyu had snuck into the group just as they were being transported to this mysterious museum the man named Almadel seemed to have curated for himself.

How he managed to do it was unknown. They knew very little about Almadel. Where he was from, how long he’d been alive, what his motives were. Sure, there was a chance that he collected (stole) enough valuable artifacts that they were of interest to others to sell to, but how lucrative could such a profession really be when more likely than not, many wouldn’t understand the value of such objects or they were, in fact, just junk.

“There is a lot more here than I was expecting. If this is just where he keeps the excess…” Lucien frowned as he padded quickly along to a side room and slipped in before they could be spotted. He didn’t want Alastor to be distracted by him being there. He was protective of his bonded, but Sessrumnir was protective as well. He knew Alastor was in good hands.

Inside the smaller room, it was easy to see how the Kosopods could hide. There was so much clutter, and Lucien scoffed at how poorly things had been organized. Sure, everything was in boxes, but how easy were they to access?

His ears twitched when he heard the sound of scurrying through one of the air vents, and wasted no time in hopping up onto the boxes so he could get a closer look.

“They smell vile. I can not imagine eating these,” he wrinkled his nose. Maybe he’d been considering it… Just to see.

Soleiyu - Cat form

Soleiyu’s nose wrinkled at the sheer mass of boxes in the room. There were so many places for Kosopods to hide–and so many problems just waiting to be found.

…And yet, Soleiyu couldn’t help but wonder what this merchant had collected and stashed away from whatever world he found them on. He watched Lucien examining the air vent but even as he was about to look for something to help, something scurried in the wall next to him. He thought he felt it on his tail, and he immediately jerked it away and moved towards the center of the room.

“It sounds like you’ve been spending too much time around Alastor.” He wondered if Sessrumnir had to worry about Alastor shoving one in his mouth just to see what it tasted like.

Soleiyu wasn’t particularly interested in their flavor–a creature that apparently ate everything, including garbage and toxic waste? No, he could live without them–no matter what their host said.

“I want to know where we are. And how. This whole place has so many red flags. I hope we can get rid of the Kosopods quickly. I’d really like to examine the room.”

Not just what was in the boxes, but the room itself–was there something they could learn about the construction here? Something to learn about Almadel himself?

“Ugh, but I think there’s one over here. It touched me. How’s it look up there?”
