Branching RPQuote: Prompt 1: The group has split up; while a large number of people remain in the storage wing, you have decided to help clear out some of the smaller rooms. Things are packed more securely here, and while there are some oddities on display, for the most part everything is secured in an array of wooden, stone, or metal boxes of varying security. You may see a strange item here or there, or something that catches your eye. There is an undeniably weird hum of energy in the room but Almadel has trusted you to behave. While you must stay in the area, you can investigate anything. You can PM The Space Cauldron or DM xigglet on Discord if you want to check anything before posting; you can also ask if you can interact with anything or gain extra information about something your character is involved in. It is possible to find an artifact or relic that is some way important or relevant to your character but you must have permission. If you are interested in finding something, please be prepared to give a physical description and any relevant lore; we can work things out with you.As you investigate, you hear a strange noise. Roll a 1d4 to locate it. If you roll 1 it is coming from an air vent If you roll a 2 it is coming from a storage box If you roll a 3 it is coming from the wall If you roll a 4 it is coming from under the floor You can decide how to get to them; you may be fortunate and find a loose tile but you may have to break something to reach them (at player choice). Just remember that Almadel wants his museum in the best condition possible… Quote: Prompt 2: You have located the sound–Kosopods, ranging from six inches to two feet wide. They are hard shelled isopods with many legs and prickly tails. They can be nearly any neutral color, it just depends on what they have been eating. They will immediately try to scatter. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have located; you can decide their size. Quote: Prompt 3: The Kosopods immediately attack. They are frantic and hungry; they can spit acid that causes agitation and eventually burns through things and they have many sharp legs and sharp points on their shells. They can bite. Their shells are very hard and they can only be damaged by flipping them over to expose their delicate underbelly or possibly by overwhelming them with magic. They cannot be starseeded. They are vulnerable to fire but it might not be a good idea to start setting things ablaze if you want to stay on Almadel’s good side. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have defeated; if you roll lower than the last prompt, you will need to roll again until you defeat them all or hope that your allies rolled high enough to take out some of yours as well. If you roll a higher number here than you did in prompt 2, you can help your allies. Quote: Prompt 4: Once the Kosopods have been defeated, you can take a moment to breathe. It sounds like things have calmed down outside in the large room that you arrived in. You can look around the area if you like (and if you sent anything in to find or examine, you can identify it now. It may be possible to steal small items from Almadel if you have sent in for approval). This post can be considered an exit or you can continue roleplaying until you are ready to leave. You can rejoin the closing post of the ORP when it is announced! This should be on Friday the 30th. While you do not need to have this RP finished at the time of the close, please try to close this RP promptly! You must write 500 words in this RP to be eligible for the prize!

Dering, Squire of the Lysithea Action: Staying close to the group, talking, trying to explore the room a little
Moving into a side room meant Dering could actually breathe. It was crowded in the other room and he’d been holding his breath out of concern that he’d breathe too loudly and attract trouble. He held his lute very close so as not to bump anyone and it was only when they had all filed into the side room that he relaxed his grip somewhat.
It was eerie, like some horrible chamber in a sci-fi horror where you were just waiting for the monster to jump out. In a way, they were.
Dering didn’t have any sort of plan. Almadel had told them to eradicate the giant bugs and he was ready to do his part. It was too bad; it sounded like they were in the wrong place at the wrong time but if they were anything like Earth bugs…
“...Why do you think they even want to eat all of this stuff?” he asked quietly. He stayed close to the group but stepped deeper into the room. Even with the dim lights, he could still make out a few boxes that looked like they’d been torn into or toppled over.
Maybe it was a silly question–maybe there wasn’t much in space? …Even though there were probably plenty of worlds that were rich with vegetation or something that looked a little more edible than…
He peered down at the box nearest to him and tried to figure out what the strange looking dishes could have been used for.
They definitely didn’t look delicious, in any case.
He nearly jumped when something seemed like it moved right next to him--only, he couldn't see it. The wall looked like the panel just bumped loose and Dering realized that something was there with them already. It was just in the wall.

Reims, Squire of GanymedeThere had been a moment of horrified concern mixed with relief when Dering poked his head out of the crowd. There hadn’t been time to greet him properly, especially when they were whisked off to the mysterious museum of Almadel’s.
He remembered Stirling from when they made a collective effort to retrieve her starseed from the a*****e who stole it, but he hadn’t been there at the hospital when she woke up, nor had they ever really talked before.
There was a lingering discomfort her felt when he thought about how many brightly colored Lysithea knights seemed to constantly surround Dering, but it wasn’t as though it was Dering’ fault, nor theirs, nor his. It was just an unfortunate reminder that he stood out in all aspects of his life.
Thankfully, Yvoire also being a knight of Ganymede made it easier for him to not think too much about it.
And he was also thankful that Dering and Stirling seemed more comfortable exploring one of the smaller rooms, since it meant Reims would be able to keep an eye on them better.
He had his arm around Yvoire as they shut the door behind them, but carefully released him so they would have more room to move around.
Reims was quiet as he looked around. He heard Dering’s question, and in response he lightly placed a hand on top of his hat to give his head a gentle pat. Asking out loud, Reims could only assume that it wouldn’t take Dering long to come up with the same answer Reims was thinking: there just wasn’t anything else to eat.
He had no idea if the Kosopods liked the wood and artifacts, or if they were just starving and trapped there. And living things got desperate when they were starving and trapped.
“We should make sure we have our weapons ready, in case they attack when we disturb them. If they’re like wasps, they might be aggressive,” Reims pointed out as he uncomfortably held his sword in his right hand, and then switched to his left, which was awkward but at least not painful.
While Dering was looking at where the sound of scurrying was on the other side of a wall, Reims could hear the metallic clacking of little legs in the air vents.

Yvoire was grateful to break off from the main group. The less people there were, the more room there was to think. Being around so many dark auras made him uncomfortable. Having to work with them was worse. Yvoire struggled to hold a good opinion for their alien host when he was willing to rely on the Negaverse, even for something as supposedly innocent as bug extermination.
Clutching at his parasol, Yvoire cast his gaze around the room they’d entered. There were so many boxes, some of it probably little more than junk. Maybe there actually were important treasures scattered among some of it, but it couldn’t all be priceless artifacts.
As for the bugs in question…
“There’s something under the floor,” Yvoire said, shifting a little closer to the spot he could hear the noise coming from.
He felt around the nearest floor tiles, searching for one that might be loose. In the end, he dug the point of his parasol between a couple and tried to pry one up, feeling only slightly guilty in the process.

Stirling Knight of LysitheaIt was so much more quiet in this room, and the freedom from the Chaos auras was…well. It was unmatched and Stirling gave a half shiver trying to dispel the crawling feeling she felt on her skin from all of it. All of them. She summoned her rapier and took a half step towards what looked like a storage box, poking it as gingerly as she could and she thought over Dering’s question and shrugged almost helplessly. There was noises coming from the box, and she didn’t really want to draw attention to it…she could protect the others in the room if she was just closer to the threat so…
She would just do that.
“I…think bugs just…like to eat junk? There’s the creepy flashy ones that live in old books? My first group home had so many in the little library that they had? They just. Ugh they were so gross…”
She couldn’t quite remember the name of them, and wrinkled her nose as she poked the box again. Glad that she wasn’t alone in this. Even if she didn’t really know the other two who were here…Dering did and they were friendly, and that was a start. She knew them on sight!
…Sort of. "I agree about the weapons! I've got mine, and I can make a shield if need be."

Dering, Squire of the Lysithea Action: Staring at the Kosopod that just popped its head out of the wall
Though Dering didn’t say it, he breathed a soft sigh of relief when Reims patted his head. He’d seen him, it wasn’t like Reims caught him by surprise. It was a silly gesture and it was comforting in a way Dering couldn’t quite explain. He didn’t think anyone would ask him to. He adjusted his hat despite it still being perfectly in place.
There wasn’t much peace to be had when the whole room felt vaguely alive. The scratchy noise of little taps was suddenly overwhelming.
They all had weapons–some more useful than others–but Deringh held his more like a shield than a weapon. He didn’t want to actually have to use it. Something about crushing bugs in their natural environment felt…
Unkind.
They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. They needed someone to help them get back to where they belonged.
He wouldn’t deter the others; he knew they could probably handle things better than he could, anyway. If the Kosopods were aggressive like wasps then there wasn’t much they could do except fight or be stung, and he did not want his friends to get hurt. Especially not because he was too soft.
It felt like the calm before the storm. Dering had heard the movement around them, from places he couldn’t see. Yvoire was working at the floor but Dering didn’t have it in him to try and dismantle the wall.
He didn't have to. He could see the metal bowing as something brushed against it. His heart stopped in his chest and he held his breath, fixated on the unknown. He heard Stirling talking but he couldn’t find the words to answer.
The metal panel fell onto the wall with a loud clatter that made him jump even though he’d been staring right at it.
In the hollow part of the wall, a Kosopod–maybe the size of a tea saucer–stared at him with big, curious eyes.
It didn’t try to attack him, so he just awkwardly stared back at it while he clutched his lute closer.

Reims, Squire of GanymedeReims watched and waited while Yvoire worked on trying to pry the tile up with the point of his parasol. And when it looked like the tile might be giving Yvoire more trouble than necessary, Reims temporarily let go of his sword, which seemed to rest at hover in midair next to him, and placed a helping hand on the parasol handle. Feather light, he rested his other hand against Yvoire’s side, just to make sure he wasn’t knocked backwards when the tile was finally loose.
He didn’t know for certain what kind of things these bugs ate, but he didn’t think they would be in space if they just liked to live in old books. He didn’t say it out loud though. He didn’t want to upset Dering or his friend by directing his irritation at the situation at the wrong people.
“If anything big comes out, just get behind me, I’ll stomp on it,” he said quietly to Yvoire and nodded to indicate he was ready to put more force onto the parasol to open up the floor.
As soon as the tile was broken open, and one of the bugs scurried out, Reims grabbed his sword from where it hung in the air, and drove it through the creature attempting to scurry to a different hiding place.
While he didn’t necessarily want to kill anything, he understood how an infestation was a problem, and it needed to be dealt with swiftly.
The clang of metal pulled his attention and he could see Dering standing, staring at what looked like one of the creatures. He didn’t know if it was going to attack so he quickly tried to get Stirling’s attention to help.
“Shield! By the wall!” he called over to her. She was closest to Dering, so he hoped she could at least keep them both safe in case the Kosopod tried to attack.
“You good?” he asked Yvoire, hand still on his side for a moment longer before withdrawing his sword from the bug and looking for any others that might be coming out of hiding.

The tile gave way and a kosopod crawled out. Reims took care of it with his sword before Yvoire had to worry whether it would give them any trouble.
“I’m good,” he said with a small smile. “We’ve squashed bugs before.”
Cynthus had been particularly spirited about it, if Yvoire remembered correctly. Strangely, he almost wished she was there, just for the added noise of her rambling. Crowds might make him uncomfortable sometimes, but Cynthus was familiar enough that she became pleasant background noise after a while.
Yvoire very purposefully did not let himself think about Reims being so close, touching his side. He couldn’t afford to be distracted, not when they were meant to be doing something, not when they were in an unfamiliar place with big Chaos auras in the vicinity, even if they were no longer in the same room. Dering and Stirling were with them and Yvoire didn’t want to be reduced to a blushing, stammering mess. He already felt out of place at the best of times.
Another kosopod crawled out of the floor. Yvoire stuck the point of his parasol into it, then turned at the sound of metal falling. He hopped back onto his feet with his parasol at the ready. He didn’t jump in right away in case Stirling made use of her shield, but stood in a defensive position, inching a little closer to Dering so he could pull him to safety if necessary.

Stirling Knight of LysitheaWhen she hard the cry of 'sheild', Stirling didn't hesitate and slashed her rapier in front of her, drawing closer to Dering and watched as the large shield expanded between herself and the oncoming bugs. She didn't trust the bugs, and didn't like them, that was for sure, and the small feeling of satisfaction as a few of them scuttled and met with the wall that she had created...was welcome.
"If you can get over here, I can hold them back, I trust you all." Dering trusted them, so she had to. At least for right now. She was the strongest one here, not that it mattered, but...still.
"It can move, so if you want us to come over--" Her words were directed at the one who had told her to use her magic. He seemed as though he was the one who had the most ideas. "Just let me know and we'll be there. They can't pass it. I won't let them."

Dering, Squire of the Lysithea Action: Scooped up kospods in a box, hiding behind Stirling's shield to be safe
It wasn’t that Dering was too cowardly to attack the alien bugs, it was just that he had a hard time bringing harm to a creature that hadn’t caused harm to him. He wanted to be confident in his decisions, he wanted to know that if he was hurting something, it was the right choice.
He never caused pain for the sake of it, and even now all he could think about was catching and releasing the bugs.
There were a lot of them–probably too many to save, especially if they were hostile.
…It just wasn’t in Julian’s nature not to try, and even if some of the bugs were already being squished, he did his best to stay behind Stirling and avoid the worst of them, he looked into the eyes of the kind-hearted kosopod that was just looking up at him, begging for help.
He bit his lip, hard, and slowly reached for a box.
It didn’t move. Another kosopod joined it. They stared up at him with little eyes that said ‘Please, Dering! Please help us!’
He scooped them up in the box and hoped it wasn’t an incredibly obvious gesture. The kospods, while startled, just scurried around–confused, but maybe smart enough to understand being in a box was better than being under a boot.
