There are fraud organizations like the Better Business Bureau that may be able to help.

I'm blanking out on the right department, maybe the FCC but there is a federal agency that deals with fraud like this.

Sadly, the fraudster is likely in another country and your relative is unlikely to get her money back. She should contact her bank though to see what they say, what she needs to do to further protect herself.

She also needs to take steps to protect her identity and credit since the fraudster has her bank information.

That sucks. This happened to my SO... he trusted the wrong person and cashed a check and now he's $8,000 in the hole. The bank was nice and didn't charge him any fees or anything and are letting him pay it back out of his paycheck. They did change all of his banking accounts and kept a close eye on his accounts for awhile cuz he did give them his banking info as well... had I known what he was going to do I wouldn't have let him but he did it without me knowing about it.

So I'd have your friend get a hold of his bank and change all of his accounts and get a diffrent card.

He changed his card and called the bank. I just wish there was something else that could be done. I think them being older and not know much about the internet and scams left them open to what happened, I am sad to sa

I think I have seen this scam on the news recently, and I think that other than reporting it to his bank, it should be reported to the police, or fbi.

Tax Scams

IRS scams

Reporting scams

AARP info on IRS scams

If you determine that the contact is not legitimate: If the scam is IRS-related, report the incident to phishing@irs.gov, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), the Federal Trade Commission, and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

This is so terrible that anyone would do this to anyone.
Thanks for replying. How have you been?
