Profile
Son of Zuella and Kellye from Aisha as Mother Tree.

Personality:
Adventurous - He is a handful to say the least and loves wandering and looking under rocks and logs and watching wildlife, particularly predatory wildlife and poisonous plants.
Deep - He feels deeply, thinks deeply (for his own gain mostly) thus he can also be hurt deeply. He feels great injustice at the prejudice still assigned to aishan hybrids in regards to being let on the Aishan island, he has yet to find anything more important to him besides his parents.
Hot Temper - Pretty self explanatory, energy, nitrous and a match.
Broody - When he doesn't get his way, which is often as he is a bit of a brat he sulks quietly in the corner and plots (revenge), his next actions.
Proud - He is proud of his family, of his bloodlines of his pretty face.
Cunning - As he grows this will show more and more, he uses his cleverness to squish as much joy and as little non desirous work out of life as possible. Seems to have problems with authority.
Thrill Seeker - He is careful with his risks but he definitely still does more than others his age probably should.

History: Born to two very very proud and loving parents from a very special lotus from Aisha. His family spends a bit more time in Jauhar but they do visit Matori, once Thoraka was old enough for travel safely they spent about half their time in Jauhar and half in Matori. His parents have a full time job trying to shape him into a proper prentice.

He had always loved the power and surge of a proper thunderstorm. Jauhar and Matori, his two homes both obliged him, he usually climbed a shorter tree to be closer to the action so long as the winds were not too strong, he had a lot of fun in and around trees, he thought that might have a bit to do with his illustrious heritage, sea and deep wood. He hadn't experienced cold yet, not real cold, but it did not sound all that fun to him. He was happy truly with the two places he called home. They spend time about equally in Jauhar and Matori, there was not too much rhyme or reason what made their family switch from one to the other, both had good climates but he loved storm season. At the moment they were in Jauhar. The great trees swaying above and blustering wind attempting to pull him from his climb but he was stubborn and his extra long legs made short work of the climb, he got to the top and howled with the storm like a wild animal. Only here in perhaps the most dangerous position did he feel close to the gods, to the power of the storm, only here did he feel truly alive. He howled when he got to the top. Just screamed right into the storm and felt all the negative pent up energy from stinky school leave his body. Learning was good but it was fidgety work, he was meant for far greater things.

The tree swayed back and forth another conduit for the storm energy that was exploding from the sky. Lightning arched over head and Thoraka smiled. He had been named after lighting after all. This was so great. He felt one with the universe and knew that no matter where his path took him it would always lead back to storms and their powerful magical dances across the great sky. There were airships sure but you really didn't get a good feel for a storm from inside anything. In a tree was the best place though his parents warned him over and over that it was dangerous, that was why he didn't pick the tallest one. Just you know a bit of a dwarf in a bunch that way there was a bit of leeway if lightning did strike. Thunder rolled after the flash and he couldn't help the wild grin on his face. He could stay up here for forever and just enjoy it. No one else of his aquaintence quite understood this. But every cell in his body felt alive and energized, this forest, rife with dangers was his playground. The sea as well. He was in a word dauntless.

Rain poured down in a wet massage over his mostly bare skin. The crystals and alk skin inherited from his parents shown proudly at all times. He wanted to get black tattoos on his forearms to represent the forces and creatures that meant the most to him. He would take this world by storm for his own ends and he would do it well. Just as he played with his toys at home, winners, losers and good verses evil he would be the author of his own story and nobody could change or take that from him, no matter if he occassionally got teased for looking a bit different. He knew they were all just jealous of his rugged beauty and well that was their problem. He also wanted quite a few piercings if he had his way. Some may call him a hellion but he was just super stubborn and driven and not at all interested in their petty little opinions. Life was grand, it was meant to be experienced, not just read about in little books like an old grannybythefire. He shook his head. Why do that when you could read for a bit, find out where the stuff was and go see it for yourself. Adventure called his name loud and clear. Storms happened everywhere and he was tied to the lightning like his father to the sea. Time was soon where he would be able to travel, perhaps a parent or two would come with him, if not well, maybe one of his alk sisters would, though many shunned him for being male, not all were so cold shouldered. He was hoping to gain a few friends. Plus all of the earthlings in Matori that his father was connected too, just not many were his age, they were all a bit older and that was hampering things a bit but he woudln't be shrimp sized for long. Mama was very tall after all, and Dad was muscular if not tall.

He was one of those people that couldn't wait for tommorow unless there was a good storm involved then he preferred to live in the moment, and stretch it for as long as possible.
The tree swayed in a way that would alarm everyone perhaps but him. He just adjusted his grip and grinned fiercely as the wind grew stronger and caused the forest to look like a disturbed rug. Sea storms were good too but there was considerably less to cling to unless you were on a ship. Ships were good, trees were better. This place, this place was truly home. His elements of green blue and yellow around him. He loved this place and its fierce predators, stealthy people with their strong opinions. Mother Aisha lording over them all with her pure love on her island. He resented that he wasn't allowed closer to her, he too had come from her. He was allowed to visit of course, especially escorted by his Mother but he wished he could be closer to her.

Though he knew already that he would not be following an aishan class. That was not do to the stink eye he still recieved while around some of the other Aishans in Jauhar it was because there was an earthling class he knew he was soul destined to be a part of. There were storm summoners and he knew that was what he would be one day without any doubt at all in the matter and he had known ever since he had heart that there was such a thing out there.

Far be it for him too to press himself on a people who came from the same tree he did, but despite years of diplomacy still saw only his gender and not his love of Aisha, it may have been a bit different were he able to chose an aishan path but he knew where he belonged. Sometimes he climbed trees near her when he was there with his mother so he could see her and she could see him. He talked to her there clinging to the side of the cousin tree. She was beautiful and despite the full blood's hostility he still felt her love.

That mattered more to him, than they did, though he did ever wish he could just touch the bark of her great side and thank her for helping his parents bring him into being. He loved Aisha with his whole heart and soul and still sent gifts of fertilizer and whatever else he could along with his Mother. She could see Aisha and she faithfully helped him send his love. He prayed to Aisha and his other gods each morning and most of the nights too. It was a grounding exercise, something needed greatly for a dynamic kid like himself. He got way less flack with his father's matorian people the majority of which were hybrids of some sort. There was even another ice alk occassionally who did a lot of fishing and a water alk who played with plant summoner magics. He felt much less alone with them. The Aisha thing would likely frustrate him forever and he was resigned to that. Mayhap one day there would be a difference. Maybe one day he could love Aisha the way he was meant to even though he was not a guardian or any of that flack. There were a few males who followed that path but it was still a hard life of fighting for acceptance.

His happiness was that he had a loving and well balanced family. He didn't think it would be too long before they disturbed themselves and brought him another sibling from Aisha, then at least he would have another piece of Aisha besides mom. He didn't care if it was a boy or girl he would love a sibling. Someone to protect and show the ways of the world to. That would be fun. Then he need not be alone unless he wanted it.
He would take this world by storm using storm and he would love fiercely and live grandly at least by his own definitition. He disliked authority and preferred to make his own rules on well..everything. He usually listened to his parents if he thought they were being reasonable. And was respectful at least to them. He loved them. Everyone else was subject to a questionaire and assessment.

His family had travelled back to Matori for a spell. There was apparently a shop that sold spells here, Thoraka was highly suspicious that it was just a story that his parents told him to keep him entertained on the way there. Going to Matori was a big production and they had come by sea for a change of pace. He liked the water and Dad was at home there. Mom loved everything so even being on the sea for her alkidike self wasn't a big deal. He had liked the experience but had nearly immediately gotten bored. They had just arrived in Pirate's Cove by the beast ranch when the captain had taken a look at the skies and declared that a hurricane was moving in. This excited Thoraka more than it scared him, they were off the sea now so all to the good there. He greatly enjoyed storms of all kinds, especially any that produced lightning and thunder. The only one he didn't think did that were blizzards and despite his iceling heritage he thought he would dislike the cold anyway. His Dad said the snow was pretty and blanketed everything in white but it still did not sound all that fun to him.
They travelled up to the main house and were welcomed with open arms, Thoraka immediately headed to their house after the general greetings had been completed. It was a ways from the ranch and his parents trailed behind. They would do well to get the house hurricane proof before the storm was able to roll in.

Thoraka vaguely remembered the beast ranch people but they were always so busy and all so much older that well, he really didn't give much of a hoot at this age about strangers that were not fun to play with. He had few friends but those he did have were good and dependable people, it was a bit hard with traveling back and forth in generally remote areas. Matori less so than their place in Jauhar.
He helped his parents prepare their Matorian home for the hurricane until it was well locked down, then he scampered off. Perhaps not the wisest thing to do right before a storm, but well he was awfully young to be wise yet and he had an unhealthy obsession with storms and thrills and that was what was motivating him now. He was fast and he easily escaped his parents who would be on the hunt for him momentarily. He had a lot of energy and not the greatest sense of right and wrong it was more flexible for him. After all he reasoned his own people besides his mother were too snobby to even let him anywhere close to his tree mother so by his mind it meant that he wasn't really controlled by anyone except the parents he loved and well it had been a long and boring trip cooped up and he was eager to stretch his legs. It felt good to run, he knew he would be quite grounded for obvious reasons when he got back, but the chance to see and feel the rage of a hurricane was too good to be true.

He went further and further from home, he had not seen a hurricane yet, but tales of the great storms had reached him in Jauhar. The stronger the better in his opinion, maybe it would reach Jauhar and shake some common sense into the alcoholic elders. The thought made him bear his teeth in satisfaction. He would climb a tree as an and as a precaution, tie himself off to it. Hurricanes were apparently stronger than normal storms in some ways. Once he found a likely tree, he climbed it and strapped himself in for a wild ride, even if he just got to feel the edge of it before he scampered back to the house. It was a bit like meeting a celebrity the sky darkened further blotting out all but the strongness remnants of the sun. Midnight in the mid day That in itself spoke of power to him. He wanted to wield this kind of power one day not to subjugate others but for the thrill of it and to be able to protect those he loved. Family was important to him. Despite his recurrent tendency to fight authority with everything he had, he listened some of the time. He was young enough still, that he didn't quite credit the why behind most of the restrictive rules. Why not Cliff jump? Why not watch lightning from up a tree? Why not pet wild radaku or snaptrotter? Why not swim alone in the dark?
There were just so many darn rules. It felt very restrictive. And didn't they know he was a free spirit only girdled by the natural laws that ruled all things? Eat or be eaten. Lightning flash some distance away and he now heard his family calling for him. His brow furrowed at the distress in their voices. It was hard to fight that poll. Most of all, he wanted very much to live his dreams. out but he did not want to upset his parents. He could hear the fear and urgency and the voices he wanted to hold on just a little longer. Moment by moment the storm approached rising winds ruffled his hair and pulled out his clothing from his vantage point he could see a great black wall perhaps just perhaps this kind of storm was just a bit much for him right now at his age. He got the knot undone. Finally no thanks to the wind that was even now pulling on and bending the tree. As he was attempting to climb down birds retreated as best as they could before the storm walls. The Smarter fowl getting out of the path just ahead of ferocious winds that would make general flying impossible. Well, yes, he had quite underestimated this particular force of nature. It was on the level of volcanic eruption or tidal wave. He knew that hurricanes could produce storm surge the wind and forced the storm dragging seawater inland from where it was supposed to be. That had been the other reason to climb that to climbing the tree in the first place. That on the proved view from the added height he looked down and breathed the sigh of relief to see the ground still barren of water which would have made everything much more complicated than it needs to be. Then he began the shortest trek back to the house. It was slower going than he would have liked and he was thankful that he had started back when he did. This kind of storm was bigger than anything you'd ever seen before. wide and tall and foreboding born to the fury of the sea gods and carried on their winds to the shore as a gift for the land dweller like himself. Most inconsiderate gift taking into account the great ferocity of the water and the currents that may be running underneath. These thoughts helped hurry him down the trail. The rain was beating down and then lashing sideways with the wind made it hard to see every branch also seemed to be out to get him as he was covered in scratches. Lightning arced overhead and thunder boomed out it's customary warning quite close after the storm was quite close. Then he tried to hurry but compared to the storm he was still small. His heart flooded with not quite fear but a certain increased urgency.

The wind was now blowing hard enough that it made just walking difficult, he dared not go out into the open clearings for fear he would be blasted away. He was close now though and he had no choice but to continue on. This would be a lot easier if he had a mount, then the heavier animal could have carried him him. As he fought the winds he saw not a mount but a sailscale caught in the branch of a tree, it was likely an escapee from the beast ranch and Thoraka had not the heart to leave the little flying reptile to the storm so he walked over as best as he could and gathered the little beast to his chest holding him close and using his opposing hand to grip trees until he could get back on course.

As he walked a keldari was spooked from the undergrowth, that was also not a native to the region and he scooped it up as well, both critters would be much safer in the house than out here where stuff could fall on them and he was one of those people who did not give things back once given, gifts from the storm they were and he would look after them forever more..if he could get back to safety himself.

The wind fought and pulled and at one point he may have had to crawl but he made it back to shelter and the grounding for 3 weeks that likely awaited him.

Solo 3
He was finally free of being grounded. Not that the punishment seemed to do anything more than bore him to death really, which he supposed was the punishment itself. He sighed. It wasn't that he didn't want to be good, it was that it was dead boring overall. He had been sent to the market to get fruit and rice. Chores were another good repentance activity and he at least wanted his parents to think they were having some effect on him but he felt like the only thing that ever would was time. He was full of angst and he was not entirely sure why, he wasn't even sure what serene even meant.

The trip to the market itself was uneventful and he bought the rice and bananas and pineapple and coconut without too much hassle. However as he went to leave the market something terrible caught his eye. Two boys were straight up smacking a janarim with sticks. Thoraka even recognized the animal as one recently sold off the beast ranch to who was supposed to be a responsible buyer. The boys were both younglings, seemingly unrelated as their hair colors did not match and one was obviously half fire. Thug one was a full blood water male, small and frail and obviously taking advantage of the young janarims fantastic training to not bite him quite in half, this boy was located very close to the powerful jaws of the large beast, a cut from a sharp point on the club had opened a wound on the beasts chest, it leaked blood slowly and from the squint of the animals eyes he was in great pain and misery and too good of a boy to do anything about it. The boy drew back his arm to strike at the side of the animals neck and Thoraka dropped his produce and used his longer half alk stride to get in close enough to catch the club.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you shrimp." He cared not a whit for his own safety, he could never stand back and watch these boys do this to the animal. He heard the janarim's intake of breath but the beast did not strike any of them. Younglings were younglings and he was trained to be very gentle with them. He had gone for a pretty penny when he was sold, Thoraka had been lurking and overheard the older beast charmers talking. What a shame that the beast had ended up here with these imbiciles.

The other youngling, a hybrid like himself but lacking any character whatsoever, or he wouldn't be here took his club and thwacked Thor on the shoulder. Well that hurt. For all that they were small the earthlings arms were powerful. He squinted his distinct yellow bug eyes, who alone could fortell his ice and alkidike heritage and Thor punched the boy back in the face, however he had had to let go of the other kid with the sharp edged club. Some things were worth such sacrifice and he smiled at the shock on the boys face. He had the water spots on fire skin, yellow crystals blue hair and yellow/orange eyes. They had the goatlike pupil of his water heritage too. Thoraka snarled as the boys progressed to thwaking him with the sticks. The younglings however were not prepared for the ferocity with which Thoraka fought. Like a while animal weasel hurricane he felt not the blows that landed on him, shot full of adrenaline and spitting out a baby tooth when he was struck on the face with the blunt thumper.

Eventually he alone stood at his considerably taller height, not falling to the ground had saved him from a full trouncing, though it looked like he had certainly still recieved one. He had big bruises on shoulder and face and a cut mirroring that of the janarim on his chest on the exact same spot with the same angle. Spitting blood as it kept filling his mouth, he snarled at the downed boys and through his coin pouch which had about three months allowance in it and was twice what the janarim was worth.

"Bought and paid for, dare to come after me in any way and I will tell Legendary Kiyelt what you did to one of his four legged children." Kiyelt was known for unorthodox methods and certain unsavory associates. That would ensure that the boys and he only recieved what they deserved from this altercation. He took the reins of the beast, paid for by coin and won in fair combat, he might be taller but he had had no weapon to fight back with. He gathered the bag of rice and fruit and put it atop the shoulders of the beast to carry back for him. One of his eyes was swelling shut and it did nothing to improve the blackness of his mood. Neandertahls did not deserve a beast such as this. Thoraka would get him home and get him medical attention before he so much as put cold water on himself. Something things were more imporatant than self care. Besides the tooth hole had stopped bleeding. No skin off of his back. Those punks should have thought before they tried to ruin an exceptional beast of fine breeding.

He cared not what sorry excuse they gave to their guardian over where the expensive animal went to. He was Thoraka's now and Thoraka would defend him with his life. The beast seemed to sense that and eyed him with shining gratitude, keeping its head low, he trusted this strange boy who had rescued him from the unkind smalls. Eventually he bent his head and nudged the boy, asking if he wanted to ride to speed up the process of wherever they were going.

Thoraka took a better look at his new companion, steel grey with large metallic blue ovals over his back. A proud, well shaped head, would boast a powerful bite, the long graceful neck and powerfully muscled body spoke of the finest breeding imaginable.

"Well, if you are offering my friend, but don't push yourself, I don't have anything to close the wound and I feel that my healing practices are not up to the task as of yet." He climbed up the offered forleg and felt for all the world like he was on top of the world. That such a beast would trust him enough already to offer a ride after what the other boys had just did to him touched Thoraka's heart just as much as saving him had the janarims.

"I will have to come up with a name for you won't I?" He was not surrendering or giving this beast up for anything he would work for years to keep him, but judging from their condition and the state of the janarim, and his father's standing among the beast tamers he didn't think that would be an issue. His parents would understand he was sure and maybe they would think that the beast would help keep him out of trouble as opposed to getting into more. Ideally the beast tamers would help him heal his new friend and help him retrain any crap that those boys' sullied hands had wrought on the janarim's psychi.

"I still don't know why you didnt just open up your great big mouth and just eat them both, they would be nothing but a small snack for someone of your size, you regal thing you."
The janarim groaned in answer for all the world like he understood his new friend, neither would lable Thoraka as a Master as that was not the boys' intent, he only wanted a friend.

The rythmic steps had a lulling effect once Thoraka got used to the sensation of riding. He wondered why his parents had not gotten some of these, though his mother had some Xanteer. Perhaps Kellye felt that a fishing vessel was no place for a janarim but a snaptrotter would have quite enjoyed every moment of being fed fish scraps. Ahh well, maybe he would get them one for their birthdays or something.

The janarim ate up the miles to the ranch and Thoraka made sure the fruit and rice did not fall off of his back. At least the beast had been too tall for the boys to bruise much of him. They were lucky that this one was so well trained, usually not much was left after a janarim attack or so he had heard. The creatures were so powerful that it really made sense to use more caution than not around them.

"You from a royal bloodline or what? Me too, I was born of Aisha, and Dad said that far enough back he had a bit of noble blood. Though he had been an orphan for a long time before fleeing Zena to head to Matori and start over." To pass the time he talked to the animal he rode and soon enough the beast ranch came into glorious view and he rode the janarim right up to the medical barn and bawled at the top of his lungs, the janarim adding his brassy roar for attendance.

He had known what he wanted to do from the start and thus it was no big deal to choose when the day came. He was out on his surf board, (they were in Matori currently) and gazing off at the waves forming in the distance, one of which he planned to ride toward shore. There were a few snaptrotter some distance over actively fishing but they were minding their own business so so was he.

He wouldn't mind a snaptrotter friend though, maybe he would go to the market and get one from the ranch. They were the finest beasts besides the wild ones and they were often prettier than the wild ones, being captive bred by experts with a few wildies thrown in. But then he remembered the other thing he wanted to do today. Apply to get a teacher to show him the way of the elementalist so he could start living his dream as a magic practitioner. Storm was the only way for him to go, a big thundercloud overhead with raging winds and the accompanying crescendo of thunder and lightning were what stirred his blood, it made him feel alive, and at that moment nothing else mattered really.

This was the decision that had somewhat weighed on him but no matter what he knew he was making the right choice at this time. He took a deep sigh and set up for the incoming wave that had reached him finally. He was in the sweet spot and worked to get his body up on the board, finally standing he rode the wave reaching a hand out to brush against its surface. A synergy of young man and sea, it had taken a lot of work to be this good but it was very worth it in the end. He would go apply now. Someone would take him on he was sure.

Gardening
Another storm ripped through the region. But he was not surprised there had been so many storms lately. Somehow it felt like way more than normal. Conceitedly, he wondered if perhaps it was because of magic and something to do with him. He had been practicing what his tutor showed him, or more likely it was just a horrible year for storms.

Today, though, he was inspired by something else for a change. For while it was storming outside, he had a seed tray in front of him when is about to choose the tomato varieties for that year's garden. His mom had taught him one year, and it had been looked hooked on gardening ever since it was such a peaceful and pleasing hobby. There were small changes every day. Kitchen scraps could be used for compost. Some plants used cup shaped leaves to catch more water. There was just so much to learn, and he loved it. The more he did, the deeper that love got.

His mum was a good teacher, and they were, after all, part plant, because of Mother Aisha. He wondered if the sisters who tended to Aisha felt like that, not that they would ever let him close enough to ask. And he had her blood/sap in his veins too. Oh, well, he didn't want to and couldn't change who he was. He was handsome, special, half decently smart, and had the best family ever. That was what really mattered.

When you got down to it, without him these seeds wouldn't be here, and he wouldn't get the natural mutual enhancement of a person- plant bond. One could easily get starts from a nursery, but seeds were cheaper and just needed a bit of time and babying before they were off and running too. So why not start what you could from seed, and buy the rest, it was good planning and good for the mood and the mind, which were both very important. He covered the seeds he planted and watered them in making sure each had a corresponding label to go with it or he wouldn't know what it was.

Shopping

It was that time of year again, his leggings were too short. At least this time, he was allowed to go to the market and pick for himself. His brother still went with their mum. He had a feeling it would be much easier this way, without her well intentioned hovering. Clothing just wasn't that big deal. With his own sense of style, he would be more than well off on his own. He picked out a few clothes and bought them before moving down the rows of the market stalls.

Oddly enough, the first thing that caught his eye was a six sided die. He couldn't resist buying it. It was pretty cheap, and he thought that having it would amuse him. It was a big market today, he must say, bustling with vendors of all kinds. He poked and prodded and ended up buying a menk in a jar at the fish vendor. It was a blue and a black male with fancy fins. He won a prize draw and was allowed to pick another fish. He chose a red female one this time. So for this shopping trip was very fun.

He shuffled along, peering here and examining there. They had everything one could possibly need or want, including a beautifully ink spotted blue sailscale. Little Blue was a right little beauty she was and also for a good deal, he would be going home with more than one scaly thing today. He smirked to himself he had been saving for this day. He would make the most of it. The blue sail scale was allowed to perch on his shoulder. He had the ties attached to himself, just in case, she was well behaved, though, watching the menk swirl around in their jars. He was having such a good time.

"Okay? I also need ink and paper." He took his pack along entourage to the stationary booth, one of the few fully enclosed booths, thanks to the delicate nature of its contents.

There was careful sailscale inspections, including much sniff snoffing of a selected stationery. The little blue would crane her neck out to each thing he picked up. She was actively curious in what made him curious and it was a special sort of feeling.

He was able to fill his needs for letter writing and painting. He wanted to practice painting. He had to admit that it looked fun. And last but not least, books. He was running out again, so he bought five fat volumes, second and third of a new series, and three first books in various other series. One, apparently by a local author to Matori, interesting. He might need to look into that. If the book was good, having a local author was a pretty cool thing. And with all of that shopping, he had no more money left, and it was time to head it back to home with his prizes.

Among the fishes

A bright and sunny day saw him out in the water. For once, he was swimming, not surfing. He had wanted to check out the fishiness area. Seeing the colorful bodies flit about was like watching living art, and it made him happy. Perhaps he would try to paint the fish. He wasn't any good at crafts, except surfer style hemp beaded necklaces. But he wanted to try painting. He saw that Tahnee chick packing her supplies with her and painting in front of the landscape, and that looked really cool. She was from the other branch of the main family, the ones that lived off the ranch, but she sure looked like a ninyelt, all blue like his brother, but with the crystals and the dark blue hair characteristic of so many in the clan. Then came the specklers like Kechiri, who had water spots, the occasional Matorian bitone skin and sometimes freshness, like with the leaf blood that came into their family through various means. Oddly enough, also from the same family. Then the families that had melded to the ranch for one reason another, like Variel and Viltre and so on and so forth. It was fortunate that it was such a big place.

Sometimes it was nice to be off on one's own. He didn't think he would mind one or two people around, but an entire tribe, at times, was just a bit much for his quiet soul. Though he did like a good party. He wasn't a permanent social butterfly, and occasionally needed time away from crowds. He gloried in nature and was proud of the profession he had chosen to follow. What could be better than this?

He was sure Alias would like these fish. He loved doing everything with his little brother, and he was growing up and starting to shoot up, just as Thoraka had around his age. He was a very proud older brother. Alias was a smart, kind and intelligent kid, and so far, not nearly as prone to surliness as himself. But as he learned more about his likes and dislikes, the happier he became. A new fish type flitted before his eyes fluttered its intricately striped red and black self before it scuttled away on its own fishy business. Whoa, was that ever a pretty species!

He couldn't wait to tell his dad about it. Dad loved talking about fish, and he could do it for hours. Sometimes they competed with how long they could get him to talk about it for fun. But the truth was, he loved those stories. Deep inside, there was a part of him that was still a kid. The key was connecting with that part of himself, regularly and on purpose. This is one of those times where he let all of his cares fall away from him, because he was doing everything he could to better himself here. Down here, it was just him and the fishes, and he felt at home, one with the environment himself and the realization bloomed all at once. This was what living was all about, finding joy in the small moments day to day that made his life special no matter what.
