Thoraka 1
It was a warm day in the jungle. He was wandering around with his brother seeing what they could see. The jungle was full of life to be observed and his little brother loved it. He loved his little brother and he thought wildlife was pretty cool too. Overall it had been a very good day and he was in a good mood. Proudly watching his full blood brother wander around and look under rocks. He looked higher up the trunks of the trees and occassionally climbed up to the low branches to see if he could find anything interesting. He would of course climb higher but Alai could not so he limited himself to the understory and low limbs. He could climb all he wanted later when his brother was safe and not at the mercy of the Jauharan jungle.
He felt more stabilized now that he had a brother. He was a role model and behaved as such. He had thought he couldn't love anyone more than his parents but Alai was special. Alai was just like him.

He loved this place and all the fervent life that interacted and carried on around them, birdsong, leaf rustles, twig snaps all in a complicated dance that only they could hear. He also loved hanging out with his older brother. He knew that in this world there were at least three people who would do their level best to keep him loved and safe and fed. What more could he want?
"Did you see anything cool?" He asked his brother who had shimmied down the tree back to him. He wanted to climb higher but he wasn't allowed until he had longer arms so his father had told him and Alias listened to his family when they told him something, usually it was for his own good.
At least with his older brother in tow he was able to go a bit further from their home base than he would normally. His Mom always told him to stay in their shadow, which meant close enough to see. He wondered what his parents were up to while their kids ran amuck in the jungle.

"Not up that tree, no, but there is always another." He looked about, ever alert. There were predators and people aplenty here and he wanted not to be snuck up on. He had the distinct and slightly creepy feeling that they were being watched and looking up he smiled and nudged his brother. "In my defense I did not see him on the tree." He pointed to a tasty maglardilla. "Those are really good eating and a staple of the forest as far as meat goes. Some people keep them as pets, I like to keep them in a pot." His stomach grumbled for emphasis.
He smiled bashfully, knowing that it would make his little brother giggle. He wanted to teach him what mom had taught him about the jungle in their time here growing up, then he had no doubt mom would continue the lessons with them both. Maybe Dad would join in too, he certainly taught them all about the sea and his fishercraft. He never saw Dad so happy as when he was with them on his boat and they were all fishing.

"Oooh!" He looked up to where his brother was pointing. A tasty morsel clung to the tree head down and looking at the intruders in its forest with curiousity. His heart beat quickened. Was he about to see his brother hunt? Apparently with all the tree climbing that Thoraka did he was more deadly in the forest than on the flat which was surprising with how long his legs were. He had to admit that a maglardilla would hit the spot about now if they were as tasty as everyone said.
The wind made the trees sway and rustled the leaves, the maglardilla seemed to sense that something was off, a valuable skill when the whole forest wanted to eat you, it turned and skuttled the opposite direction up the trunk of the tree.
"Get it Thor, its getting away!" He egged his brother on, he couldn't remember being this excited before now. What a thrill! "I am rather hungry." He whined slightly knowing that would get his bro going faster than anything else.

He needed no more encouragement, his brother would be okay and it had been so long since he had gotten a good hunt in. Thoraka threw himself after the creature, trying to cut it off by climbing a different tree and making his way over to the one that contained the maglardilla. It was not an old creature though it was sizable. He managed to catch it in record time and dropped to the ground once it was safe and showed Alaias how to gut the kill and prepare it for transport home.
"Its a big one it should be enough for our dinner, I'm sure Mom and Dad will be proud." He strapped the carcass to his back. If something were to come looking for the meat it should be on him not his snack sized brother. Though he was starting to see a certain lengthening of Alaias' frame that heralded the great hybrid growth spurt to come. He wondered if the little sprout would get as tall as he. The thought amused him.
"See that purple bark over there? Mom said it had medicinal qualities. Good for infections she said you chew the bark and add a certain dark berry found in the wetter areas."

"Great job!" He was aware he had a bit of hero worship for his older brother, but really who wouldn't his brother was so cool and was always attentive. Alaias knew he was important to his brother, he wasn't neccessarily sure why but he knew that Thoraka loved him to bits and wanted him to succeed. He watched the carcass cleaning and listened patiently about the bark his brother was pointing out.
"Medicine huh? I bet it tastes awful, its so cool that Mom knows all of this stuff. I want to know more, I want to know it all." Medicine was important and it had always worked on his boo boos. Mom said it wasn't magic but to him it was as close to magic as one could get without magic. He knew his brother didn't have magic yet but he had seen his face during storms and he knew that was where his brother would find his calling. Alaias wasn't sure yet but he felt that like hid Fisherman Father, his calling answered to that song of the sea. He loved water in all forms and indeed liked fishing nearly as much as his father.

"The blue bark is a combined antinflammitory and analgesic but you have to be careful how much you use or the person may not wake up next time they sleep. The red bark can cause hallucinations but tends to have sedative effects as well." That was all he could remember of Mom's teachings he was embarrassed to say that he had not always been listening but in his defense a storm had been creeping up the valley and they were more interesting for him anyway.
"I think we are free to move on to the next area, the scuffle might bring unwelcome guests if we stay too long." He shook his head, yup time to move on he was getting tingly and that his mother said happened to be natural instinct that people who worked in the bush were more in tune with usually. He ushered his little brother ahead but kept him close just in case. He would never let his guard down in the jungle, there was too much stuff out here that was hungry.
The path that they sort of made up as they went along led to a new clearing. He wanted them to skirt around the edge, not trusting the open center much when climbing might be nessesery.

His brother was being cautious, probably a good thing, he knew they were not the toothiest predators out here, as prickly as Thoraka could be, there were plenty of scary things out here.
"Is this a Menzuri web?" It blocked the path and was hard to see he had just brushed against it and unstuck himself, figuring out what it was. "I don't think I want to meet one of those either." Ew. He didn't mind eating bug but he didn't want to be the bug. "We have to go around..into the meadow." He looked at the concerned look on his brother's face. "What is wrong with the meadow?" At least they could run out there if they needed too, at least if they were fast enough to keep ahead of whatever if anything happened to be following them. "The menzuri don't like open areas at least, Mom told me so, as she reminds me everytime we come back to Juahar." It was getting boring actually, he had never even seen a Menzuri, though the web had been well laid.

"No Menzuri don't like the open, but other, swifter things do." There was no help for it, he could not go up, he could not go through, they would have to go around and try to find an exit on the other end of the meadow. If hunting were easy they would call it catching.
They padded their way into the meadow, skirted the Menzuri webs and cut back to the tree line with a bit of a space cushion in case they didn't detect a web in time. Crafty things, those Menzuri, he was glad they had not both been ensnared and that Alias had realized it was there so fast. Sometimes it took a long time to get out of a web even with help. He shuddered, what a way to go, all one could do is hope the menzuri wasn't home at the time and that they stayed gone long enough for the trapped to get out of the web. "Its a jungle out here all right." No wonder his parents had worried so much about him out here when he was younger.

This was all well and good, and as it turned out they were not in the middle of the field when he heard a growl that could not come from his or his brother's stomach unfortunately. "Thor?" He whispered. This was likely what his brother had been sensing, and what he had been afraid of.
"Radaku." There was only one thing out here that had a growl like that. It was a thrill to see one in the wild, he just hoped it would not be his last wildlife viewing. He was both too pretty and too young to die just yet. He shook himself. "What do we do?" He eyed the nearest tree. "Up?" Up might just be the only way to get out of range but if they could hear the growl already they might already be too close. His brother had froze and seemed to be thinking. Time to think for himself.
"Hey there furbaby, I'm sorry we stepped on your turf, if you let us live we will share some tasty maglardilla? You know a tithe for borrowing your hunting lands?"
The set of eyes popped out of the darkness, followed by another. Two juvies, it might be their first hunt, they were not quite big enough to be adults and still had some awkward gangliness going on.

This was it, his worse fear. But despite his racing heart something in his soul told him to trust the little brother that stood before him with his mixed heritage and blue skin. This would be quite telling, if he could just hold it together. He knew his bro was special but did that specialness preclude appetizer for two hungry furry delinquents.
"They look like siblings, gods know where Mummy and Daddy are." He took deep breaths. He now understood distinctly what his parents felt when he was doing dumb things, they would never forgive him if something happened to Alias but if he moved, if he startled them, it might be all over.
"Keep it up Alias, they are listening." For once in his life, doing nothing was the right answer and it was the hardest choice he had ever had to make. "You are doing great." He took the pack off his back so he would have the food ready. That might be all they wanted a snack. "Their mom might have just booted them from the nest in preparation to have her next litter.
A very small part of him noticed how beautiful these creatures were.

The encouragement from his brother was all the bolstering he needed. He kept his voice low and calm and took his time, no sudden movements. He grabbed chunks of Maglardilla and offered them to the two hungry youngsters. "We have a chance at making friends yeah?" He could not tell what gender these guys were yet. The one closest to him was a little larger and had silvery fur with black small freckles. The other was a dark blue with red eyes lacking all other distinguishing features.
He took deep breaths and offered the meat, quickly snatched out of his hand and munched. There might not be much Maglardilla for lunch at this point, but going home in one piece was worth a bit of protien tax in his not so humble opinion. "Friends yeah?" He offered another chunk to the darker radaku and asked his brother to come assist. It would be better if the furbabies trusted them both he thought. Maybe just maybe they would make lifelong friends.

Slowly he stepped up, keeping an eye on the critters and took over feeding of the blue one. Whatever nature proclivities his brother had they had worked here, that was for certain, they were probably lucky in a way that these were adolescents and some that had likely never met people before, their reactions may have been different had they had some sort of bad experience with people growing up. He was still jittery but had a firm hand clamped on the matter in his mind. If they couldn't tell he was nervous than all the better in his mind.
They were such beautiful creatures. "Do you think we could convince them to come home with us? I'm sure Mom and Dad wouldn't mind having some protectors for us when they are not around, the furniture might suffer a bit though, look at those teeths!" He added the s at the end of teeth to make it sound cuter but well there was nothing cute about the actual fangs.

"If we sacrifice our whole bug, I bet they will." He said gleefully, it had been easier than he had thought to get his brother on board, Thoraka had just done it naturally. But well, they were such beautiful critters. "It might be an idea to try and head back though, so we have time to brace ourselves before mom and dad come home. "
"We should get Dad and Mom pet snaptrotters, they can go with them on the boat and they need some reliable mounts too." It was solid reasoning, everyone and everyone should have a pet!
Tentatively he reached out a hand and scritched a willing forehead. "Radaku are just so cool!" He hadn't seen much else this close up but as they had been the first big tamable (ish) creature he had seen, well they took the cake for him. That wasn't to say other critters were not cool but radaku would forever hold a place in his heart.

He was alright with sacrificing the leftovers of his hunt, a worthy sacrifice indeed if that was the payment for a new furry best friend. He had always found it hard to make friend with one marked exception in Ustasis who had charmed him from the very start and for a prickly person that was saying a lot, he usually preferred to be alone or with his little bro but there was just something so pure and sweet about Ustasis that even his warriness was overcome and shoved to the very back.
"A new friend." He stroked the soft back fur of the adolescent but already quite tall radaku. They were lithe graceful hunters or would be once they lost the last bit of their gangliness. Beautiful creatures they were, he too like Alai, was in awe of the sheer power and speed that these two commanded with just a few flexes they were up to nearly top speed from a stand still. "They must have seen a tidbit, I hope they come back." He started to call out but two two were back, his female dragging another maglardilla, looking quite pleased with herself. "At least they are an easier catch than we are, looks like we still get bug for dinner!"
