One Abyss Briefing RP With the double doors opened, agents and senshi were free to filter in as they arrived. The briefing was due to start promptly at 9:00 PM, but early arrivals had the opportunity to graze light offerings provided by a few recruited youma and put-upon Lieutenants. At the front of the room was a small stage, and behind it hung a single display board that was covered in a red cloth. Time ticked down to the top of the hour; a General who was quite literally on fire took the stage.
"You're here because you saw promise in another mission to the Rift," Faustite recapitulated as he paced at the front of the room. For the size of the response, he used one of the old ballrooms that had been converted into a training area – seats had been hauled in by some of the youma he had put to work in the sunken city. The rest of the area remained open for standing room, for youma or youmafied agents that no longer found seats amenable, or those who liked to weave through a crowd in search of comestibles.
"Or you're here because your superiors told you to be here. Or you're here because you want to prove yourself. Whatever the reason, you're coming with me into the Rift." He paused in his pacing, faced the crowd, looked them over hawkishly. He pressed a hand to his chest. "Faustite, if we haven't met.
"Few rules before I brief you. One – no starseeds in the Rift. Makes for a complete disaster.
"Two – no energy orbs in the Rift. Still a disaster.
"Three – follow the orders of your team leads, rank difference aside. Can't teleport in the Rift, so you can't bail yourself out of trouble should you find any." Once spoken, he began pacing again.
"Any questions about the rules before we begin?"

Kamacite hated the Rift. If it was up to him, he would never set foot in the Rift ever again. And he wouldn’t have been there if it wasn’t for Faustite. Not because Faustite was making him be there, but because Faustite’s success was important to Kamacite. His safety and well being was important to him.
The Eternal Senshi stood to the side of the room, hiding as best as he could in the shadows, which was difficult already because of his bright orange and flowered robes. He kept his head down and arms crossed protectively over his chest, as if that would keep anyone he didn’t already know from talking to him.
Mostly because he didn’t want to bring down the mood or take away the attention from Faustite by being awkward.
——————————
Super Sailor Taenite was intrigued by this mission. He wasn’t afraid of the Rift, even though he knew the dangers it posed. As long as no one handed him a starseed (again) he was cool with lighting things on fire at the command of his superior officers.
Or, in this case apparently, his team lead.
“What about our own starseeds? What if we wanted to play fetch with a youma or two in the Rift? Could we yoink it out and wave it around for a bit, or should we leave those here too?” he asked, raising his hand -- not because Faustite would need to know who was talking, but so he could draw attention to himself for anyone who might not know him.
The tone of his voice was dripping with sarcasm. He hoped the others knew not to mess with their starseeds (unlike the last time), but maybe a reminder was in order.

The Mauvian had learned to be punctual for meetings. As much as he loathed to capitulate to Faustite’s will like some trained pet, he knew better than to outright disobey. He was here just as much for the first reason as the second.
Besides, his last visit to the Rift had been fruitful. Perhaps the place had more promise than it initially belied. It being filled with youma that would not hesitate to eat a cat, all things considered.
Tama arrived a bit before 9:00. Usually, he came in his human-like form, ears and puff of tail notwithstanding. Despite the amount of people set to be in the room, he thought such a setting called for it. Why, the room even had a stage!
He practically purred. This was an upgrade from Faustite’s small office. This could be important. He eyed the board that was covered in red cloth. He hadn’t know the general to have a flair for the dramatic.
Tama note Faustite’s words — or, rather, rules — but nothing was out of the ordinary. At least, when one was dealing in the Rift. No starseeds — it was practically an invitation for trouble there. Same for energy orbs. He hadn’t realized one couldn’t teleport in the Rift, however.
The Mauvian bowed to the General King as he entered. Tama had not yet met Jet in person. That was one to keep an eye on.
“Someone already wants to violate rule number one.” He said with a smirk in General Faustite’s direction. He didn’t know this senshi’s name. Sacrifices didn’t need names. “Well, I’m always in favor of someone else being the bait when we go into the Rift.”

Seraphinite wasn't entirely sure why he was he- ...right. He glanced over his shoulder, noting the young woman and senshi trailing behind him. When the notice had gone around about the mission into the Rift, Rigel had leapt for the chance. Spectrolite wasn't comfortable with heading back in, but Seraphinite knew if nothing else, he'd be better heading out with this mission.
He vaguely wondered exactly how mad Jet might be if he just... left the senshi to the youma...
Speaking of. He spotted the young man in question, moving along the back of the room till he could come up behind Jet.
"Hey."
Yeah, because that was a suitable greeting. Beyond the occasional patrol with Spectrolite or Rigel, Seraphinite really hadn't been around. Jericho was working, taking online classes, helping his parents with projects...
One might think he was avoiding Negaspace.
The Captain listened to the rules set out by the General up in front--and immediately frowned upon hearing a senshi question the starseed rule. Sarcastically, he could hear that. But he glanced at Jet. "....that's been an issue?"
Of course, he glared at Rigel, nodding his head towards the front to highlight the rules.
-------
At Seraphinite's look and gesture, Super Sailor Rigel held up his gloved hands in defense, a bright grin on his face as he looked up at the taller man. "I heard him, I heard him. No experiments."
Was he especially crushed by this development? No. Though he hoped things would be interesting enough on the mission to keep something like dangerous experiments from seeming like a good idea... on the rare chance he was ever in the Rift, he'd not been bored, so he was feeling positive about this round.
He didn't need a babysitter. And he told Seraphinite that repeatedly. Not that it mattered much. All three of them were here--Rigel cast a glance at Spectrolite from under his hood. And then looked away as he gave a small sigh. No experiments. That included shoving a lieutenant in front of a youma.
Instead, he clicked his fingers against the skulls along the front of his collar, offering Jet a wave. Rigel was less social than Seraphinite was, and as he glanced about the collection in the room, he realized he knew... basically no one here. Oops. Well, maybe this would remedy some of that~
-------
Lt. Spectrolite felt a shiver skitter down her spine. It'd been... years since she'd been in the Rift. A horrible training exercise that had her nearly killed by youma. Up until now, she'd been good at avoiding the place. Rigel's excitement to go there baffled her--but, he'd always been into creepy stuff, hadn't he?--and when Seraphinte told her he'd be going...
Well, it'd been enough to buck up her courage to join them.
Her stacking rings wouldn't do jack all against a youma, but Seraphinite's swords? They weren't the wooden swords he'd used last time they'd been in the Rift together. If worst came to worst, she figured he'd be fine keeping the trouble away--assuming she was able to stick around him. The idea that she might made her shift about uncomfortably on her feet, remaining mostly behind the Captain. Tiny as she was, she could peek around to see the General up front--oh... oh what had Rigel called them... half-youma?--and she sent Seraphinite a disbelieving look at how casually he addressed the General King. Didn't that go against like.... ranking stuff?
She just kept her mouth shut, paying attention to the instructions.

Aquamarine was far from happy — an expected attitude for anyone who knew him even a trace amount. He hated the Rift, he held no particular fondness for youma, and he generally wasn’t interested in any missions that pulled him away from his own work. That he’d assisted Faustite with a mission in the Rift once before meant he looked forward to this one even less.
But Jet was going. Where Jet went, Aquamarine followed.
He sat in the chair next to Jet. The scowl that twisted his otherwise exquisite features might lead one to believe that Aquamarine was two seconds away from launching into a rant, but his posture was relaxed, his gaze edged with boredom. He ignored most of the crowd, allowing any of their s**t behavior to fade into nonexistence. If some lazy a*****e wanted to sleep through the meeting, let them sleep. If some brainless fool wanted to joke about starseeds, let them joke.
Jet was a General King. With the rank, many of Aquamarine’s usual concerns decreased exponentially.
He sipped at a sizable cup of some take out beverage purchased just prior to his arrival, the contents of which he had no intention of sharing. Maybe it was soothing tea. Maybe it was hot chocolate. Maybe he’d spiked the hot chocolate with a generous helping of hazelnut liqueur in an attempt to make this entire event more tolerable.
Aquamarine glanced over his shoulder (and Jet’s arm on the back of his chair) to cast a disinterested look toward Seraphinite. His scowl deepened — at Seraphinite’s question (and the reminder it provided) more than his presence.
“You didn’t hear about last time?” Aquamarine said. “Not once, but twice. ********, was it three times?” He turned to Jet for clarification. “What a ******** ******** that was. I swear to ******** if any of these ******** dumbasses pull that s**t again, I’ll ******** kill them myself.”
-------
Cymophane bounced on the balls of his feet a few times, smiling as he stood by Kamacite. The shadows weren’t exactly his idea of a good vantage point, but if hiding made his friend more comfortable, then Cymophane would tolerate it.
The Rift didn’t hold the same horrors for Cymophane as it held for some of the others. Sure, last time hadn’t gone too well at points, what with that whole business with the starseeds. But aside from that (and a few unfortunate losses), things hadn’t gone too poorly either. Certainly not as poorly as Cymophane knew they could.
He snickered quietly to himself at Taenite’s joke, whispering to Kamacite, “Don’t worry, he’s joking,” before Kamacite could start to fret about it.
Not that Kamacite wasn’t already fretting.
“It’ll be okay,” Cymophane reassured his friend, lightly rubbing a hand along Kamacite’s back. “Who knows, maybe you and I’ll get to stick together this time.”
-------
Bloodstone was angry with him. More than angry. Bloodstone was furious. Roselite knew this, and yet there he was, attending the briefing without him.
He was there because he’d volunteered — because Roselite thought, as a Captain, he should be doing more than managing Bloodstone’s office and filing his reports. He should exist as more than an extension of Bloodstone, prove himself capable, even if he didn’t feel like he was.
That didn’t mean Roselite wasn’t terrified. The Rift was dangerous, and his comrades couldn’t always be depended upon to take that danger seriously. That had been proven to him last time. But General Faustite was leading the mission, and Roselite liked and respected Faustite. He wanted to help. Perhaps with a General King joining them, too, some of the risk would be minimized.
Roselite shuffled his way to the side of the room, nervous and shy. He paid attention, but ducked his head and hunched in on himself, trying to make himself smaller. Kamacite was there, too, which was a relief. (Along with Kamacite’s roommate, which was a little more nerve-wracking, if only because Roselite knew cheery Cymophane to be a bit blasé about things.) Roselite tried to offer them both a smile, but he couldn’t quell the anxiety enough to manage more than a brief twitch of the lips.
He felt out of place and conspicuous without Bloodstone close by.

There was an audible sigh from the lilac colored senshi in the corner at the rule against starseeds in the Rift. But they were so fun! Mizuki shrugged, cuddling the black kitten in her arms and bounced slightly on her heels. She'd behave, if only because it was Fausty asking. She didn't recognize the General King, not directly anyway, but waved at him as he entered anyway.
She wondered if this was why Fausty had told them to do double energy and starseed deliveries in the last few weeks...
---
Haymitch glanced at Taenite and shook his head. Tama was already chastising the senshi to the group, and as someone who'd been in the Rift the last time someone took out their starseed during a mission...
"I mean, if you want to get eaten by a youma, that's your choice! Zuzu will go find it after you've been consumed and bring it to Faustite as a present," he said cheerfully, getting a nuzzle and cuddle from the senshi holding him. He was not as full of sass as Tama, nor near as eloquent, but he could dish a little of that sass out. Maybe.
Truth be told, Haymitch was not particularly thrilled to enter the Rift again, but his General needed him, so here he was.
Guine Smol kitten trying to be sassy
---
Leifte pinched the bridge of her nose as the two cats 'sassed' the senshi who'd obviously been joking. Yes, just what they needed during another mission into the Rift, to poke fun at each other and be smart asses. The Captain glared at the cats and Taenite briefly, and then eyed the leadership that showed up. Jet had achieved the rank of General-King (something she couldn't see Ashanite ever getting, especially if he kept trying to bone that damn Polaris knight) but it was General Faustite - a general who had a fire where his stomach should have been - that was leading this mission.
She sized him up. She knew some of Faustite's abilities; she'd been present during the last mission after all, but she'd not really gotten a good look at him. Clearly, he was half youma, given the grate and the fire in his belly. She wondered if it gave him strength beyond measure, or if it was a hinderence. Perhaps once this mission was finished, she'd ask him if it had been worth it. For now, though, there was a mission to do.
---
Mourite did not know why he was here, honestly. He supposed he was here because maybe if he did a mission like this, he'd either die (and could take his traitorous thoughts to the grave) or that he'd find his footing within the Negaverse again. He... doubted the latter, but he could hope. It was better than turning around and going to his girlfriend going "so, Danalite, I think I actually want to be a Cosmos knight instead of a Negaverse agent. kbyyyyeeee".
Death would be better than that. She'd probably gut him like a fish with those daggers of hers. Plus he couldn't betray her like that, not when he was the reason she'd taken the black in the first place. That would be the worst betrayal imaginable.
Stars above, he couldn't think about this right now. They were going into the Rift of all places, he couldn't afford to be distracted. He wondered if Danalite would answer the summons or not. Part of him hoped she stayed away, that she had other missions to attend to.
Then if he died, or ran away screaming, she wouldn't know until he was long gone.

General Arsenopyrite wandered into the room by himself and looked around for a few moments. Here he was, going into the abyss under the instruction of Faustite. There was most likely something more going on but he was still in the dark for most of it. While he had been able to participate more and was less tired recently, and thankfully in his last year of residency, it didn't mean that he had been able to attend every gathering.
He took a moment to look at the new General-King, making a note of him, before turning back his gaze to the table of refreshments, quietly walking over and pouring himself a cup of green tea before heading over to one of the chairs that had quite a few empty ones surrounding it. He would need the caffeine but at least he didn't feel as tired as he had been before.
There were some here who seemed to be ready to start a fight before they even made it into the rift and he couldn't help but roll his eyes.
He leaned forward, pulling down his mask only to cool the tea before he drank it and made sure to pay attention to those around him. Some of the ones he had seen before at lower ranks were now higher and there were new faces as well. At least it seemed that other Agents were starting to take all of this a bit more seriously.
He couldn't help but rub his temples at the bickering of the cats and Senshi. Chaos below he was glad that his own two cats hadn't turned out to be Mauvians. He took another sip of the tea and looked down at it. He would probably need a second one.
----------------------------------------------------------
General Chambersite entered and immediately the smell of food hit his nose, causing him to turn straight towards the food. Taking a sniff of it again he decided that it was... edible. Really, he should probably start advertising his services for making food. They would get a lot better than this. He made himself a coffee and took some small sandwiches that looked like they had been bought straight from the store and sat in one of the chairs. He was interested in this mission, mostly because he missed the first one.
He had cursed himself for doing so, but he had made this one at least. And he needed to use his skills as a General anyway. He wasn't one to go out and make his own team and mostly felt himself finding himself being useless in the castle. The only thing keeping him entertained for his powered life at the time was hearing information from his Youma Roquefort and sparring against other Agents.
This would at least add a little excitement to all of this. He took a bite of one of the sandwiches and immediately stared at it with a surprised look.
Seems that his cooking skills were definitely in demand. He took a swig of his coffee to get the taste out of his mouth.
----------------------------------------------------------
Triplite wandered in, making sure to give a wave to the Captain who had teleported her and made her way around the room, hands behind her back, just getting a look at all of the faces. She knew literally no one, so perhaps this mission would be a good way of getting some connections.
There appeared to be two cats? Mauvians? She wasn't sure if she remembered the correct term for them, but either way they seemed to be on edge for some reason. Was the Rift really that scary? She assumed that it would at least be dangerous and if others didn't follow instructions, then they wouldn't make it back right? Better to just let them go if that was the case.
She wanted to go down there. She knew nothing about it and all of this was still quite new to her. Any chance to go and explore was one that she would never pass up!

Super Fafnir
So, they were going into the rift?
Standing among the others, arms carefully folded across his chest, Fafnir considered one of his least favorite places and his apparent future in it. Considered he didn't have any energy orbs or starseeds on him, he figured he was good on the rules Faustite put forth. That left just the orders he'd have to follow, and who they were going to be coming from. Part of him hoped it would not be Albite... wasn't it enough the insufferable man had been promoted ahead of him? Putting him under the eternal, taking his orders on what was shaping up to be an important mission... it would be intolerable.
Still. No matter what, this mission was important and a chance for him to show his skills. It was an opportunity, and not one to be missed. Lucky for him that his general was spearheading it. While it might not get him any sort of preferential treatment, it could still give him an edge later.
Blue eyes flicking to the side, he studied the rest of the gathering as he listened, noting the various groups that naturally formed and the varying levels of power he could feel radiating around him. It seemed they had everything from lieutentants to General Sovereigns, and that truly spoke for how this mission was being regarded.

Albite was so goddamned, utterly ******** excited! He could barely keep it all contained to the off-center corner he held just off stage left; just a pair of bat wings n heels n a grin that would’ve made a proper Cheshire envious. It didn’t matter that a whole half of the year had been like pogoing through hell (with every high n low n inbetween imaginable) it didn’t matter if things were still tension wire tight between him n people on his team, because this?
*This*
This here was a thing he could *not* ******** up. Maybe not even if he tried!
All his favorite people would be around, in his most favorite place, doing his most favorite things! N he may’ve been real loose on the details of exactly what such things entailed, but he loved that *too*! The surprise was half the fun of it all.
The not knowing.
Hearing Aqua happily offering his own version of sage advice in the background; clear as crystal that needed a refill of champagne, n the Cats chiming in to tame Tae-Taes teasing spark of a tongue. Jet looking regal as all get out.
*Kamacite —*
*Fafnir….*
People he knew, people he didn’t. His whole goddamn team!
His whole husband.
It was gonna be *such* a good ******** time.
——
Prehnite was busy enough that he raised a brow, read the room, and finished hashing out a hasty text to the team that had relation to a missive sent out not long before this. An invitation and ask for aid all in one. Though it was oft true these ‘volunteer’ situations didn’t require overmuch of a debriefing when one was experienced?
And his team was, to a great extent, that by now.
The matter still remained that half his damn team — nigh all of them — Half-youma, Senshi, Basics and a Mauvian — though they acted like a unit full of Generals at times, though he thought they certainly had put in enough work to have earned promotions straight into wings rather than lingering in the stages between — he couldn’t forget the fact that they were the types that lent well to feed denizens of the Rift the same as fodder before a cannon.
So even if they were experienced? Even if *he* was? He still very much wanted them here for this; if only to ensure there’d be no second guessing or doubling back on a decision after it was already too late.
In the interim of texting before summoning his crew along — Prehnite watched fondly Kamacite, surrounded by so many: a golden flower to bees and watched warily Jet, an unease in the pit of his soul for incidents unresolved. For over emotional childishness on his part….
To be brave once in the face of a thing, and too much a coward thereafter to confront even himself. Prehnite was glad to keep his space, lent up near a table at the back of the class; a quiet twitch of fingers and curl of energy calling the remainder of his team gently in. Hylonome’s ask — and didn’t his precious edelweiss do him proud enough? Asking all the right questions in just the right way.

"Thank you, Fulgurite," Borax's tone was a suave purr as he passed by the already put-upon senshi and strolled into the meeting barely-qualified-as-a-room theatre. This was why he familiarized himself with his team members. As much as he had no interest in relying on others, he had to for now, and he hated every ******** second of it.
Fulgurite squirmed like he wanted to be part of anything else, though, which made him fun to interact with. At least, it was easy to get him to do something just to make the squirming stop.
Such as picking him up and dropping him off with the teleportation Fulgurite was quite capable of when Borax could not yet do any such thing.
He settled himself into one of the chairs once he partook of some of those refreshments, holding a cup of coffee in one hand, and draping his other arm over the seat. One leg crossed over the other, and he watched and waited, brows lifting in curiosity. It was fine. He had no starseeds or energy on him as it was, as their quotas had been requested to be doubled, so he simply handed in what he collected. No point in hanging onto those things long-term beyond the essentials; he had already done what he had wanted to do.
He was not thrilled about the prospect of obeying anyone else's orders beyond what he already had to do, but he would do what he needed to do to obtain what he desired.
-----------------------------------------
"Yeah, sure," Fulgurite groused under his breath, only adding a strained, "whatever," once Borax had joined the others in the room. He would say the man was insufferable, but he had a feeling Borax was simply just good at getting what he wanted. Compliments and smarmy smirks and the perfect fit for whatever infiltration s**t Jadarite probably had recruited him for...
Good ******** grief.
He ran a hand through his shaggy hair and headed over to the refreshments, where he stayed even as Faustite started talking. Why was he here again? To the Rift, again? Once more, into the place where he discovered he never wanted to be near anything reminiscent of the deep sea again?
Once more, into the place where he had met the general that had briefly given him hope that this wasn't a whole ******** mess that he was trapped in forever? That maybe, just maybe, there was a path where it would at least feel tolerable. He flexed his fingers, looked down at his knuckles, and sighed as he could visualize the blood on them. Visualized the way he used to knock teeth in during the process of getting what he had to get.
He ignored it.
He hoped no one there thought starseeds were a good ******** idea. They had nearly gotten consumed last time. He shot a wary look in Hylonome's direction, but at least she thought to ask before just bringing any emergency rations with her anyway. If she had actually tried to use them, she might have just ended up prey anyway, but what did he know--
Did Albite look excited?
Of course he did. He really was a different breed.

Faustite
Faustite sighed at Taenite's antics and rubbed his face. The boy had been such a heckler at meetings like these since Faustite first encountered him, and he only grew more bold with it. Faustite wasn't sure if it was due to their increasing familiarity with each other or Taenite's heightened rank, but perhaps it would be better to ignore it for now.
Much of the audience were still settling in, choosing their spots as they digested the rules. Largely, they had no objections to what he stated.
One, however, still had a question. Faustite visually searched the crowd until he found the speaker (Hylonome): a Negaverse senshi of basic rank. Likely new. Likely unfamiliar with the strangeness of the Rift, an environment that she would never be allowed to visit on her own. Perhaps she didn't have all the details about youma just yet.
"The moment you take out an energy orb or starseed — from anywhere, including your own chest — you can expect all the youma in the vicinity to descend on you. This happened in the last mission. We lost officers to it. No matter how dire, no matter the context, there will be no energy orbs or starseeds in the Rift. Should you find yourself in an emergency situation, rely on conventional means to stabilize yourself or others. Seek a senshi with healing magic. Do. Anything. Else.
"There will be no exceptions."
