Last time? Tama’s feline ears perked up for this one. It seemed Jet’s companion had a mouth on him. This meeting was much more amusing than he initially thought.
“Ah! Haymitch.” He was exceedingly proud that the younger Mauvian was learning the art of chastising senshi for their foolishness.
Tama didn’t know whether to smirk or blush at Taenite’s remarks. This was getting interesting. Clearly, he knew something about Faustite and the general didn’t admonish him for his comment.
“Just be careful so you don’t get burned.” Tama winked back.
He listened to Faustite’s explanation of why one didn’t want to play with a starseed in the Rift, mildly wondering what else in the room he’d played with.
Thornasite scowled from his corner, next to Albite. Was he using the tall senshi to effectively hide? Yes. Yes he was. Was he about to admit that? No. "How are you this excited..." He muttered, glancing up at the giant. "Remind me why I'm here again?" Thorn mumbled. He was there for his brother, he knew that. But oh god, he was already drained from this and it had barely started. The only saving grace were the mauvians.
....Even if they hadn't come over to him. Yet.

No starseeds, thought Jadarite, really should have been an easy enough order to follow. She'd never eaten one, and she certainly didn't see any appeal in pulling one out of subspace, or out of her own chest, had she had that option, just to play around with it, and that was without it causing youma to come out of the walls to try and consume her and her peers.
Looking over the paperwork with Faustite, she'd had no idea how it possibly could have happened three separate times in his last mission.
Now she saw, and it got an eye roll out of her. At least he seemed to be handling it.
Of course she was here to assist in the mission that she'd set up some groundwork for. Brown eyes scanned the room, settling first on the General King who had decided to join their numbers. Laurelite had done well, promoting someone who would actually come to the field.
Then, she tried looking to Albite, but he was grinning idiotically despite the fact that they were about to go into a situation where one reckless move could cost somebody their life.
She looked to Borax, then. He was her subordinate, and the one who technically needed the most support for her anyway.
She walked over. "You won't do anything reckless, I know," she told him. "Which is good, because as long as you're not stupid," that sentence was projected, pointed at others in the room beyond just him, "The Rift is one of the best places to see the depth and power of the Negaverse."

General Larimar was there on time -- well, not exactly on time, just a little early, there was a ******** technique to not looking overeager and ze was fairly sure that was a reliable part of it -- and, as was characteristic, possessed exactly as much of a resting b***h face as ze ever did. Zyr arms were folded brusquely across zyr chest as ze leaned against the wall.
No starseeds? It made sense. Larimar didn't ******** like it, but it made sense. Even beside that, ze was rational enough to admit it was -- probably getting to be kind of an addiction, personally? But it hadn't had too many ill effects yet besides the drop, and ze was handling it, it was fine. It was just -- ******** annoying.
If nothing else, a scheduled and understood-to-be-dangerous trip was a major improvement on Astraya, where Larimar had just felt extremely unjustifiably paranoid right up until the evil ******** space robots had started stealing people's souls, and also ze hadn't actually had any choice in either being there or leaving? It was a point of permanent contention, forever. Ze'd hated that goddamned place for the 12 hours-ish ze'd been trapped there, and would continue to go on hating it forever.
Leifite was also here, which... was irritating, given the perpetual ******** clownshoes state of everyone else in Team Ashanite - including Ashanite -- but at least she was marginally competent. Marginally.
Plenty of higher-ranked people around, too; but, on the other hand, plenty of babies. Senshi were one thing! Senshi had marginally useful magic. Lieutenants?? Larimar had been a Lieutenant once, and personally thought it was ******** astounding ze'd made it past that, given the pathetic excuse for weapons Lieutenants got. So someone would need to be on babysitting detail if any youma actually did show up. What a ******** pain.

leifite mention!
-- Wow! This was honestly kind of impressive as far as circuses went, given that it usually seemed like members of the Negaverse were either innately opposed to teamwork or innately opposed to multi-team cooperation. Nobody had started yelling or actually really arguing yet -- yet, anyway -- so that was all well and good. There was still her inbuilt expectation someone would probably do something wild at some point before the meeting was over, but power tended to mean some pretty strange folks: that she'd seen on all sides. Or maybe power tended to come to the strange, for Senshi? Interesting hypothesis. Completely baseless and almost definitely wrong. Maybe exposure to chaos...? Wait, wait, she was zoning out --
Captain Kosmochlor, in what she thought was a very understandable move, had signed up for this for two reasons and two reasons only: one, it would probably look good for her if she ever wanted to be a General (which she wasn't particularly worried about, but things could change!), and two, if something baffling and horrible happened to someone, she desperately wanted to be there to examine it. The Rift was full of youma! It was the perfect place. And maybe this would give her some further ideas on her personal project, anyway; she'd been struggling with really getting it going.
Triplite, after having wandered around the room and taken in all of the Agents finally wandered over to the table with food on it and picked up one of the smaller sandwiches and started biting into it. After a moment she couldn't help but say out loud, "Is it really that hard for people not to take starseeds out there?" She said, mostly meant for herself but had accidentally said it a bit too loud.
It didn't seem like it should be an issue at least. One had to go out of there way to go and pull energy or their starseed out. It at least required some thought. Or perhaps she was just too new to have gotten into the habit of continually using energy and taking her own starseed out.
She shrugged and grabbed another piece of food and some water, wishing they had something like gatorade but water would do fine. She wandered over to one of the open chairs and sat next to what seemed to be a Lieutenant. She wasn't sure, but did the other look nervous? Should she be nervous? She couldn't help but stuff the remainder of the sandwich in her mouth, brushing off the crumbs with a napkin off of her uniform and looking over at the Lieutenant and holding out her hand. "Hello! You looked like you could use some company! The name's Triplite!" She said, grinning at the Lieutenant.

Heliodor was only mildly surprised but he turn-out for the debriefing. While he knew the mission was going to require a good many bodies, he hadn't expected this many. If nothing else it showed his General's importance within the Negaverse and the standing he managed to create for himself. The Rift mission was going to be an interesting one if the scouting he did with Faustite was any indication.
Glancing around the room he saw many familiar faces along with as many, if not more, unfamiliar ones. The mission would allow him to get to know some more members of the Negaverse which would be a perk. Helio was well aware he needed to expand his connections within the ranks. What he hadn't expected was to find a General King among the ranks like some plebeian. Helio grinned at Jet. While he hadn't personally met the man, just being a General King meant people at least knew of them. This was definitely going to be interesting.
As someone brought up about their own starseeds, Helio audibly sighed. There was always one in a crowd. Someone always needed to make an unnecessary comment to rile of the crowd. And, as the heckler wanted, the conversation turned to the last rift mission, which Helio had not been around for. He did listen carefully to what was said and took mental notes of who had obviously been on the last mission.
Catching sight of a familiar blue super corrupt, Helio moved through the crowds to Fafnir. On his way he clapped Albite on the shoulder in greeting before he reached his brother's side. "This if going to be interesting." He said allowed as he reached Fafnir's side. "Were you around for the last Rift mission everyone else is talking about?" He asked curiously, hoping to maybe get a bit more information.
Feeling the summon from the general that awoke him Sodalite heeded the call and found himself standing outside of a rather impressive auditorium. Squeezing through the doors the green lieutenant took a casual lean against the wall next to Prehnite before surveying the room. In a situation like this it was better to stick with the known, rather then the unknown. For now it was better to align himself with a familiar face that would probably look out for his underling rather than be tossed to the proverbial wolves in the room.
Sodalite would make connections - when he deemed it important to do so. His expression mirrored a little bit of doubt with veracity of the rules in place but that was of no consequence to him, yet. He was still in the learning process of everything. Without much preamble he spoke low into Prehnite's ear, "is this the best mission to go out on, you know, making a splash in order to get one's feet wet?"
Personally he wasn't exactly sure of what the mission would entail but considering he'd been requested he'd make sure that he would at least try to be useful. It was all that he could promise at this time.
Digesting the information that was divulged in response to her question Hylonome thought about the starseed that Prehnite insisted that she keep on her in case of emergencies. It looked like that was only for normal situations out in the city, not down wherever the group was going to be heading. Making a mental note of that did the senshi of edelweiss hide the smile about seeking out those senshi with healing magic. Well, in that case she wouldn't have to look very far. Although there was caution to be had because she knew that her magic was limited and not extremely powerful.
Digging out her tablet Hylonome opened the device and began to write diligently with the pen. She'd not rely on the record function this time, as the last time had been a disaster. Besides taking notes manually would allow her to memorize what it was she was jotting down. The room was filling up and although Hylonome knew Prehnite was present, she remained in her seat. Hopefully other familiar faces would appear before the briefing got completely underway. For the meantime even as she stopped her note-taking did Hylonome open up the information file on what dangers the Rift presented to senshi like herself. It would pass the time until the mission briefing actually started and she'd refresh her memory on what she was getting herself involved in.
Of course when Cuprite arrived he did so with Benitoite, it just being easier to arrive at the same time as his cousin then separately since they would have just ended up looking for each other anyway. He looked around the old ballroom with interest but listened to Faustite as he explained the rules very carefully. "Seems simple enough to follow." He nodded, though his voice likely only was heard by those directly nearby since he meant it to be more thinking out loud then an direct conversation.
While he hadn't arrived as one of the earliest, he had made sure that he would arrive with wiggle room before the meeting official started. Mainly Huntite had planned this so he could people watch so to speak and get a good idea of who showed up and just what the power levels would be over all. So far it looked like they had a good mix of levels, and not too many Lt.s which he was honestly glad for. The rift was not safe, and with teleporting being out it would be harder to evacuate anyone that got injured.
Zunyite would be the first to admit that he had volunteered not because of some grand reason but because he was curious about what the rift was like. He had managed to get to the meeting area early and had ended up making a beeline to the snacks first before he started to look around at the other officers in earnest. He let out a low, impressed whistle at the different power levels already wondering about but his attention kept bouncing between the differences between the Officers, the Senshi, and the Mauvian's.
Seemed like that was all the questions. Seemed that no one thought the terms debatable, and the Negaverse senshi from earlier gave him the opportunity to phrase himself as clearly as possible.
On his next revolution, his hand caught the red curtain over a display board beside him and pulled it aside. Revealed was a map of part of the Rift, clearly depicting the Scar, with a red circle delineating the sole area of interest. It appeared to be little more than a hole in the center of the Scar, or perhaps a black blemish that the artist didn't know how to describe.
"Learned that some seismic activity opened up a hole in the Scar," Faustite began again. "Found a building inside that hole. Unknown origins. Multiple recon trips demonstrated that youma are no longer in the area and aren't returning. Building itself is highly technologically advanced. Seems reactive to our presence upon entering it, too. Haven't been able to open it up properly until recently, with the help of Tama and Heliodor – we've found a way to get inside.
"Comms still work inside the building. Place as a remedial light source, some kind of emergency backup – will need to supply power to explore further than the main room. Most consoles are offline, but we may need Mauvians and the tech-savvy for information access once we power the building. Need agents and senshi for exploring new areas. Need the combat-ready to guard flanks and rears of recon teams, and researchers to make sense of what we find. Goal of this mission is to uncover what happened to our youma, what this building is, and how we can use it.
"Expect this place will have quite a story. Depending on all of you to bring that story to light.
Jet wasn’t surprised that he’d caught people’s attention. The Queen had sent the message out when he’d been promoted, but since then he had been keeping a low profile, focusing on promotions and recruiting. As the Queen told him, there was no reason to reveal everything to the enemy all at once. Sure, Ganymede might have told everyone in the White Moon that there was a new General King, but if they didn’t see him, maybe they would think she’d just been delusional.
He glanced up when Seraphinite approached, although he didn’t move more than to give him a nod of greeting. Aquamarine answered his question about the last time and he frowned at the memory. There had been a lot of unknowns on that mission, but the starseed incidents had been due to individual negligence that caused the deaths of too many.
“Hopefully everyone understands this time,” he frowned, flicking a lock of Aquamarine’s hair between his fingers as he kept his arm across the back of his chair. Everyone had been told last time. They’d been given information, but apparently not everyone read it.
“You know this mission isn’t mandatory,” he said after a moment, glancing up at Seraphinite again, and then over to where he’d brought along Rigel.

Kamacite was grateful for Cymophane’s presence, and while he still scowled at Taenite’s antics, he appreciated Cymophane trying to reassure him.
He didn’t have a good feeling about any of this. Like something in the back of his head was telling him that this was going to end worse than the last time they’d been in the Rift. He hoped that wasn’t the case, but he didn’t know most of the people Faustite now surrounded himself with and it made him anxious.
He caught sight of Prehnite and was relieved to see him at least. Someone else he could trust, although Kamacite was sure that Prehnite would have his own team to handle. He hoped Cymophane was right in that maybe they’d be in the same group this time.
Another familiar face caught his attention, but instead of smiling back, Kamacite gently took hold of Cymophane’s hand so he could lead him over to where Roselite was standing. Alone, he noticed.
“You’re here by yourself?” he asked Roselite when he was close enough, and let go of Cymophane’s hand so he could reach up to give Roselite a quick hug. It was good to see him, even though Kamacite was worried about him.

Taenite, amused as ever, grinned back at Tama. “You seem like a talented and clever Mauvian. I’ll let you guess my sphere,” he said in response to his comment about getting burned.
As much as he would have liked to heckle the cats some more, he didn’t want Faustite blowing a gasket so soon, but he did reach his hand up again because if he didn’t ask, maybe no one else would, and maybe they would get it in their head that they were so smart.
“If there are no youma in the area… have you tried taking out a starseed to lure them back?”
While his eyes sparkled with intentional ignorance, he was just a Senshi and didn’t have the ability to enter the Rift as freely as agents. He didn’t know if they tried getting the youma to appear by means of starseed or energy, or if they were just pspspsing them like one would a cat.
“What are the combat-ready teams needed for if there are no youma? Are you expecting us to be swarmed at some point during the mission that would require combat teams?” he asked.
Maybe some of the more nervous agents will decide they would rather stay home.

Tama liked the attention he was getting, both on and off stage.
“Just because you can cast fire-based magic doesn’t mean you’re fire-proof.” Tama purred coyly. “Wouldn't want to scar that pretty skin of yours.”
He listened again to Faustite’s explanation, a smile crossing his face at the mention of himself. He curled a lock of his hair in his fingers as he waited. He wondered if there would be anymore foolish questions.
Here Bellalunae was running late again. Why on earth did she let her novel writing get out of hand again. She only planned to work on it a little bit and here she was hours later. she moaned as she quickly hurried out of her home hotel. It didn't take her long to arrive but by the time she had the meeting had already begun. She snuck through the shadows and made sure she could listen but hopefully no one saw how late she was to arrive.
She listened without saying a word, and just nodded in understanding. It all seemed pretty to the point and while she was late, so far she understood the basics of what was happening. She was excited about learning the places story, since maybe it could help her with a novel or something later on. After all the story behind things are the best part in her eyes.
Now She heard others say things and she listened to them, but she decided staying quiet worked for her right now. After all she volunteered for this so that maybe they'd be off her back about how little she was doing lately. She had a plan herself, do the mission assigned, and get back home. Seemed simple enough to her.
Aquamarine turned to face the front of the room again, eyeing Faustite’s map with an ever present frown, which he occasionally hid behind sips of his unidentifiable beverage. (The yawn that soon escaped him seemed to indicate that the caffeine content might be minimal.)
He scanned the room while Faustite talked, aiming to ensure that others were paying attention. Aquamarine didn’t share Jet’s eagerness to accept only volunteers. They should be taking their best, not whichever rejects happened to offer their services. Any useless schmuck could volunteer; it took competence (or luck) to survive. Aquamarine looked from one to the other, attempting to judge for himself which of them would ******** things up for the rest.
“Don’t discourage him,” he told Jet, voice low so as not to interrupt the briefing. He pretended as if he didn’t notice the hand fiddling with his hair, but inched a bit closer to Jet the next time he glanced over his shoulder at Seraphinite.
With a snide smile, Aquamarine added, “He’s got to pull his weight eventually. They don’t just hand out promotions for time served.”
If he were kinder, he would have said at least Seraphinite could (probably) be depended upon not to ******** things up.
Alas, Aquamarine was not often kind.

Roselite returned the hug — a bit tighter than his usual nervous, loose grasp, but he was scared of what was to come even if he was determined to face it. Kamacite’s presence was reassuring, at least. The Eternal Senshi might be as nervous by nature as Roselite was, but he was also far more experienced. Reliable, too. Kamacite had been personally requested for more than one mission in the time Roselite had known him.
Unlike Roselite, who was only ever requested for paperwork.
“General Bloodstone didn’t have time in his schedule,” Roselite explained.
Usually, that meant Roselite didn’t have time in his schedule, but… well, he hoped he wouldn’t regret making time.
Listening to Faustite’s explanation, Roselite thought he might be able to prove himself helpful in their search. He didn’t want to be a nuisance, or a liability. The fact that there wouldn’t be any youma in the area seemed to indicate that there’d be less of a risk than last time, but he knew not to expect things to progress without issue. Whether the problems came from the Rift itself or any of the volunteers going with them remained to be seen.
“I’ll be fine,” Roselite said. To himself. To Kamacite. He fiddled with the bracelet around his wrist, hoping for the best. “I’ll stay close, and… I’m a Captain now, so…”
He shouldn’t behave like a wilting Lieutenant any longer.
Cymophane followed along with a smile. One would think after all these years Kamacite would have gained a bit of confidence. He’d been in the Negaverse much longer than Cymophane had, and he’d proven himself many times over. Yet he was still so skittish. It was cute, but also sad. Cymophane sometimes thought Kamacite allowed himself to be taken advantage of. He didn’t need to put himself into these situations, but loyalty always seemed to win out.
“Hey, last time could’ve gone much worse,” Cymophane said — a bit more cheerful than the situation probably called for, but it wasn’t as if he was wrong.
Sure, they lost people, but considering the amount of starseeds that got waved around, they could’ve lost a lot more. If their comrades were smart, they’d’ve learned from their mistakes.
“It’s another mystery! It’ll be fun! And you just heard Faustite, there probably won’t be any youma around.”
Cuprite could teleport, he knew that, but he'd also had no problem bringing his cousin along with him - it was easy. They mgiht as well teleport together and he had more energy to spare than his cousin did. Standing at the taller blonds side he tilted his head a bit.
"Agreed and yet the last time things did not go as they should have." Never mind the giant youma spiders they'd rode on...he didn't want to even think about that. But the starseed bit and the other things which had gone wrong. Shaking his head he managed a bit of a smile to his elder cousin. "While the rules seem simple I've little doubt one of them will be broken at some point. It'll happen, I've no doubt about it." Because when something could go wrong - it did. When rules were put in place...someone would no doubt break them.
"Keep close to me if you can. If you are in another group...keep an eye on things and follow orders." Not that he felt he needed to tell his cousin, he trusted him, but he did so anyway. It was like telling someone goodbye, to have a good day, and that you loved them before they left for work every day. It was a habit that one needed to do or everything else felt off./size]
Why were they going back down there? Miyamoto had at some point turned up in the ballroom and found himself a seat as far away from the majority of those gathered as he could - he was not here to be social. He was here to get a job done and revisit a place they, and he, had already visited. Something interesting seemed to be going on, from what the General in charge was saying. A building down there, underground, that had technology - that was interesting. He was here for that and not much else.
As he sat there he listened, and watched, and he wondered why someone would draw attenti onto themself by asking about flashing there own starseed. Though he did get it to be a lesson in what had happened last time he just didn't see the poitn in giving the lesson that way, he was certain there were better means, but it was what it was and he was ready to find out who was working with who so they could get going.
While others spoke, and the one incharge talked to them, Miyamoto took the time to glance about at those who were here. Wolframite was again absent and he did, for a moment, worry but soon enough it vanished. The other had to be ok, he was certain if something had happened they'd know about it - he'd know about it. But there asn't anyone he really knew i nthe Negaverse, at least not beyond names, aside from Wolframite so he was once again alone. He was alone and he would make it work, he had to, he'd prove to himself that his choices had been right and that he could stand on his own two feet. He'd do his best i nthe hopes Wolframite would find out somehow, at some point.
Valeria wasn't social and rarely ever powered up, she was trying to do better and had been so far sucessful, but she didn't socialize with anyone who she found attending this meeting. Stepping into the ballroom she tried to keep as silent as she could, looking out of place as she did, the corrupt senshi soon found a face she knew and shuffled over towards the general. He looked like a plague doctor, very interesting considering he was a medical student, and she nudged him gently.
"I am glad to see you here." Her voice was soft, not wanting to garner anyones attention, as she stayed close to his side. She knew him well enough to stick to his side, it was best if she kept near someone else, and they both had education in common so this worked for her. "You do not mind if I stick with you on this mission?" She questioned, hopeful they would wind up in the same group. She knew her magic could be useful, she'd used it on civilians a few times, and it would help him if it was needed.
(Miyamoto is open for interactions. Anyone can join Beni and Valeria and who they are with.)
