Quote: You need to eat. There are archaic cooking utensils and a well in the middle of town. There is an array of fruits, mostly apples, hanging from some trees, and there are several different types of berries that grow around the forest. There are unkempt gardens in a few of the houses, and a larger one with an array of crops that seem to be free for the taking, just by what seems to be an abandoned--locked--church. In some houses, and in a strange storage room in town, there seems to be unidentifiable dried meat. There are no packed or processed foods--only what nature permits. There are no animals to hunt. You can choose to eat any of such food, but at what cost? Are you fortunate enough to feel no effects? Are you struck with some toxic poisoning that fades after a bit? Do you feel rejuvenated, but at the cost of feeling incredibly paranoid and off? Food and effects are player choice, however should not grant any boosts in battle or extreme advantages into gameplay; if you have questions about what you can find or what effects it can have, please post in the MQ&A It looked edible at least!
The Dark Mirror Senshi had examined the tree for quite some time before settling on the fact that from her point of view the colour of the fruit looked fine. Further exploration of her immediate area had found several questionably useful utensils nearby, and a further putter about had helped her to discover something in the way of meat. Well, she thought it was meat but in the grand scheme of things she wasn't entirely sure. However, what was apparent was the need to eat and if she had to make this particular set of products edible then she was going to have to be a touch more creative.
With this in mind the senshi had collected several of the slabs of 'meat' and pulled together some semblance of vegetables. Another shuffle about and she had managed to produce what she hoped was the equivalent of flour. The risk would always be there though, the chance to poison herself and others, but the only option beyond trying to make this work was to eat each other within the next five days and she wasn't that much of a meat lover!
Ingredients gathered, the woman made a start, pulling the utensils closer to her.
Meat was chopped, the process painstaking due to the blunting of the available tools, and vegetables soon joined it. Mixed together, she lopped them into the pot and proceeded to pour, again, what she hoped was water into the mix. The aim at first was to create a peculiar mix between soup and stew. With her resources limited the young woman could only do so much, but if she worked then perhaps she would be able to expand her culinary skills to create more impressive dishes. If she was being honest though, she'd much rather be out of this place (wherever it was), as quickly as she was able.
With a fire lit and the stove tentatively working, she heaved the pot on to it and sat back.
It wouldn't be long before the smell of something that was at least reasonably appetizing began to waft through the air of the desolate town and then maybe it wouldn't just be herself that was feeling 'adventurous' today. She didn't mind sharing her misery on this occasion, it really did love company when the going got tough and this could certainly turn out to be one of those 'days'...[Shaowei has invited everyone to come and taste her soup, she does not guarantee your safety. You are free to join her and obviously, have your character react whatever way you'd like to the food in this odd little world! But at least they'll have some noms, right? 8D ]

Pastihee
Pasithee smelled something like food cooking from across the village. It had been several hours since she had eaten. She wandered with a stash of berries? she had picked earlier. "Greetings. I'm Pasithee. Mind if I be your guinea pig? I can offer these questionable berries for your-" She eyed the pot. "Questionable stew?!?"

Dark Mirror, Sailor Arnica and Dark Mirror, Eternal Remarque
Remarque had already been forced on impromptu vacations several times in his life since first powering up, and at this point he wasn't even surprised. Just tired, and cranky, and annoyed.
He wanted food and this place had...
Something.
He wasn't sure that he trusted it. The aroma in the air smelled like food, and it was helpful that it was another Dark Mirror senshi handling it, so he approached with interest. Not one to be rude (a questionable claim), he nodded a silent greeting at Pasithee before approaching . He wouldn't have been uncomfortable if he hadn't recognized the Senshi, but it helped that he had already run into her before. There were so many new faces he didn't know that it was a bit of a relief to find one that he did. It was less to worry about, that someone was off getting in trouble while he was planted here.
"Shaowei," he greeted. "You look like you're settling in all right," he said, making the best of the situation. "Do you have any idea what you're cooking with?"
He had come into contact with the meat. That he didn't trust. His stomach wasn't letting him protest as much as he wanted.
Behind was Arnica, who may have been powered up for a while but didn't quite understand this side of things. He had run into Remarque not so very long ago and been eager to mingle with someone who seemed to understand what was going on. They had only powered up to patrol together twice, and this really wasn't what he had wanted when he said he wanted to see more magical things.
He had his hand on his hips as he trailed behind the Eternal Senshi; he came to a stop behind him and nodded to Pasithee as well, but to Shaowei he raised a hand in quiet greeting.
Arnica wasn't shy, he just needed to take all of this in.

"Oh!" Shaowei paused, looking up from the stew she had been stirring. She'd been so utterly focused in her own endeavours that she hadn't actually paid attention to the fact that she had been approached. Approached first by the Order senshi, she offered a rather warm smile, Pasithee didn't seem to be particularly shy in the given circumstances and she seemed brave enough to take a risk.
"You can certainly give it a whirl, but I think we'll all have to eventually," she admitted as she glanced briefly at the pot. It seemed almost ready, she was comfortable enough to at least start serving it, but if her experience was anything to go by it would taste even better if it was left for longer. "Just uh... If you start feeling weird maybe put it down for a little bit?" she advised.
"Oh, and you can call me Shaowei," she added.
Reaching for one of the bowls she'd found and cleaned off, she dipped her ladle into the pot and dished the food into the bowl. In one sweeping motion she set it beside Pasithee and flicked her gaze to at least one voice she did know.
"I'm hungry is what I am," she replied with a wave of her hand. She had 'settled' in the sense that she was reasonably safe (for now) but it certainly wasn't something she was happy with in terms of home comforts. "And when you're hungry you have to do what's necessary -" she motioned to her pot and shrugged.
"The vegetables looked edible, not entirely confident about the meat but I figured if it's cooked at a high enough temperature it should be ok," she raised both eyebrows. "It didn't look like chicken, if it did I'd have gone vegan for the foreseeable future," she admitted before waving her ladle towards him, and then at Arnica.
"Feeling brave?" she teased before nodding at Arnica once more.
"Who's your friend though?" she asked curiously.
It seemed that as the smell wafted through the air it was beginning to attract the curious though and those who may have elected to stay in doors, or who had wandered off elsewhere to explore, were beginning to drift back towards the middle of town. She recognised at least one of those who had returned, though loaded up with wood it seemed he'd really just come to relieve himself of that burden.
Well that might have been how it started, but the senshi in the distance did seem to pause, open the door of his chosen shelter, and then drift towards the centre himself. It was safe to say that it wouldn't be long before Athalia was upon them as well.
...Maybe he'd be brave like Pasithee and take one for the team; she'd have to wait and see in that respect.

Dark Mirror, Sailor Arnica and Dark Mirror, Eternal Remarque
Hungry was something Remarque could sympathize with, though he was doing his best to ignore it for as long as possible. "I'm far from a coward. Just not interested in taking needless risks. But if she doesn't die from it," he gestured to Pasithee, "I'm sure I'll be fine. This is Arnica," he introduced, and crossed his arms as he stepped to the side to make room for him.
Arnica nodded, a habit probably, and said, "I'd offer you my hand but you're cooking. Senshi of Mandragora. It's nice to meet you." It wasn't just a formality, he seemed to mean it. He looked a little less comfortable in this strange world than Remarque did; where as Remarque had already gotten used to occasionally being completely out of control with where you wound up, Arnica was still nervous.
Not afraid. Just not sure what he'd gotten into.
He hadn't seen so many people together like this before and he wasn't certain it was going to end well. It never seemed like anything good came from things like this, and being plucked from the place you knew to the place you didn't wasn't the best way to make a good impression right off the bat.

Capt. ChambersiteHe had skipped the meals for the first day. It wasn't the first time he had done such a thing, but he knew he couldn't put off eating forever, so even if they didn't have a choice, they would have to eat whatever they could find here. And already it smelled like there were others who had gotten to it first. They better have left some food for all of the others. He decided to wander over though, and he could tell there was a mix of both Chaos and Order, with what seemed to be mostly Chaos. Not on his side though, Dark Mirror. It was weird how Dark Mirror was so different. For some time he had wondered why the auras surrounding them could be felt so differently. Perhaps the Dark Mirrors were more subdued? He couldn't tell, but he wanted to try figuring it out eventually. When he found the group, he couldn't help but scowl. He hadn't seen that Senshi yet, but he was pretty sure that this group had been around him a bit. Still, now was not the time to act better than everyone else when it came to survival. He walked up to the others. "Cooking huh. What did you put in there?" It smelled... different. He wasn't sure if it was because of the materials or if they were truly just cooking in a different way, but he had to keep himself from pushing the "chef" out of the way and taking over himself. ((Chambersite is open for interaction!)) --------------------------------------------------- Jacques LécuyerHe could hear his stomach growling uncomfortably as he wandered through the town trying to find something to eat. It was now more than ever that Jack wished there was something, any restaurant to eat here. When, or if, they escaped out of here, he would never take such places for granted ever again! The smell of something cooking though hit his nose and he wandered over to a group surrounding... something. He was pretty sure it was some sort of pot if they were cooking, but how he was supposed to fit in there he didn't know. Everyone looked to be powered up and while they were, some of their outfits were incredibly space-filling and he felt he had to squeeze by them just to get a look at what was happening. "Mind if I uh, join?" He felt a little intimidated not being powered and being surrounded by others who were. He really did not want to be in this situation. ((Jacques is open for interaction!))

PasitheePasithee had momentarily frozen in time when the stew hit her belly. It was like a dead leaden weight that crashed in her belly. It may not have been a weird effect, but instead just the shock of it hitting the floor of her stomach. She finally exhaled, but the breath coming out of her was like a bat out of hell or a White Moon Senshi out of the Negaverse. "Wow.' She said slowing coming out of shock. "That was.... interesting." No other physical symptoms had occurred yet. In fact other than the sharp exhale, nothing had seemed to have happened at all. She shook herself, and slowly came back to herself. She realized that the others had introduced themselves. Arnica, Shaowei, Chambersite and the last one? Ah yes she recognized him from somewhere, as Remarque. And now a Human joined them. "Let me see if I have your names straight? Arnica," She pointed to him, "Remarque," she gestured to him, " and you are Shaowei," and gestured to her, "And you three are from from the the Dark Mirror Senshi? I haven't met a lot of you, don't know much about it. You, " She narrowed her eyes at Chambersite, "Are Chambersite and are from the Negaverse. I've met too many of your kind. Fortunately I ask questions first and shoot later, And we may need each other here." She turned toward the Human, with a slight smile (after, he could be Negaverse powered down). "I have no problem with you joining us. What did you say your name was?"

"How very charitable of you," Shaowei murmured at Remarque's inclination to let the poor White Moon senshi take the bullet for him. She did however afford a warm smile to Arnica and gave a nod, she couldn't quite offer her hand at the moment but at least it was nice to meet someone similar to her. Granted, she may not be entirely invested in whatever she was at this juncture, but that didn't mean she wasn't intrigued by the others she now fell in to stride with.
"And it's lovely to miss you, though I'm sure we can both agree it would have probably been much better under different circumstances," she admitted. With that, she set her ladle back in to the pot and stirred it thoughtfully, only to have her focus broken by another unknown voice - a quick glance up and she came face to face with... well, actually she had no idea who he was.
"Vegetables and some sort of meat," she replied. When in doubt it was always easier to answer the simpler questions first and worry about the details a little later. "And then some salt and peppers that I managd to scrounge up from one of the kitchens," she added. She didn't go on to admit that she wasn't entirely sure it was salt and pepper, it was better than no one else found that bit out and it did smell like it was supposed to at the very least!
"You can sample some if you'd like and let me know?" she hazarded.
In any other location she would have been somewhat delighted to have people stream towards her in such a steady fashion, but as Jacques also took a seat she couldn't help but smile wryly. To be honest they were all a little bit of a bizarre gang and as Athalia took a seat rather unceremoniously beside him, it was clear that even the other senshi had accepted that for now it was best to be diplomatic.
No fighting in the yard and all that.
"You might as well, we're all debating the merits of taking a risk with my cooking," she admitted before motioning towards Pasithee with a much warmer smile. "We have a volunteer to have the first sample though and -" she held her breath as her food was sampled. Fortunately it didn't look like it had managed to kill Pasithee either which meant that it must have been safe, or at least reasonably safe.
"We have another volunteer too, mostly because he owes me," she added as she deposited a bowl unceremoniously in front of Athalia. The Senshi blinked severeal times in surprise, shot her a rather bemused look and then merely shook his head. If Pasithee had the capacity to be be brave enough to consume this food then so did he and sure enough, he took a bite.
"But you're right, that's my name," she confirmed with a nod. "So what do you think, are you close to death or does it get a pass?"
"In the given circumstances it passes," Athalia confirmed with a simple nod, lips pursing as he turned briefly to observe present company. Once again he was outnumbered, but at least he wasn't alone. "I'll let you know in a few hours if I still feel the same way," he added with a half smile.

Dark Mirror, Sailor Arnica and Dark Mirror, Eternal Remarque
Remarque found himself glancing at the Captain, one hand going to cup his chin thoughtfully as he observed. He wasn't particularly hostile to the other Dark Mirror Senshi, which was really all that mattered. A few more people were gathering--understandable, of course. The allure of food was undeniable, especially on such an empty stomach.
His eyes slid to Pasithee when she spoke; he neither confirmed nor denied her words, but he didn't really think he needed to.
Arnica was in something of the same boat; he watched Remarque from the corner of his eye, trying to read what he could of the other Dark Mirror. In the end, he hadn't known him for long enough to make much of anything, so he mimicked the silence--but offered, at least, a small wave in greeting.
Remarque hadn't said anything about needing anyone, but Arnica wasn't about to burn bridges nor bend over backwards without knowing what was going on.
The food hadn't killed Pasithee, though, and Remarque nodded to Shaowei, amused little smile on his face. "How could I curb such enthusiasm? And look, she's turned out just fine. And," he gestured to Athalia, "Another, as well. If the food hasn't poisoned them, I'm sure it won't poison us."
Arnica raised a brow at Remarque, but he was too hungry to debate that logic. He presented another smile to Shaowei and asked, "Would it be too much trouble to ask for some? I'll make it up to you when we get back. I'll buy you something with real ingredients. I mean. At least, not mystery meat."
His lip twitched just slightly, but he managed a smile. "...I skipped dinner before powering up. Was going to get something on the way home, but." Arnica exhaled. "...I guess the universe had other plans."

"I did say I'd revise my statement in a few hours if I needed to," Athalia remarked as he raised both eyebrows towards Arnica. There was a hint of mirth in his eyes and he seemed to be speaking in jest, but all things considered he did seem to be processing his meal well. As of yet he hadn't experienced anything questionable and he could only assume that cooking the ingredients may have killed off some of the things that may have otherwise wrecked havoc.
Nothing was for certain though and just like those moments on vacation when things went wrong, it was generally safe to assume that nothing was a guarantee. In four hours time Athalia could be on the floor writhing, whimpering, or off on a very peculiar trip. Quite frankly the senshi wouldn't have put it passed his own luck to have such a fun experience either, though he would have much preferred to enjoy his meal and not suffer any consequences after.
"Though I suppose in the end food is food," he added and gave a slight wave of his hand. Side effects or no, they did still need to eat and as of yet he hadn't find anything that he could hunt or gather elsewhere. Suffice to say that what little supplies they had managed to scavenge now were all they had for the time being!
Shaowei on the other hand, was already pouring the stew into a bowl.
She didn't know the Senshi well enough to know of his true nature, but he seemed genuine in this one and he had been on his best behaviour in terms of aggression. Consequently she'd elected to trust him for the time being, if he said he was all right then it seemed unlikely that he was lying and that others should theoretically be fine as well.
"Here you are!" Her tone melodic, she set the bowl down in front of Arnica and winked. She'd make a point of checking up with him in a few hours to make sure he was ok, but all being well he would end up fed and happy for at least this evening. It wouldn't do her well to offend, injure or upset her own kind, but at the same time she couldn't really promise they'd be safe either.
...She didn't really know if any of this food was safe even if it did seem fine.
"I would be happy to cook you something much more reliable when we finally find our way out of here though," she added with a chuckle. If she had ingredients she trusted then at least she would only be paranoid about how it tasted as opposed to whether she was going to cause mass murder in the blink of an eye!
A quick glance at Remarque though and her eyebrow had risen just a touch.
"One would argue that those of us more familiar with our duties should lead by example," she teased. "A little enthusiasm wouldn't hurt in this case, or am I to assume your default setting is restrained, eh?" She finished. Alas, given she didn't necessarily know Remarque well at all, there was every possibility that this was exactly how he tended to be...didn't mean he wasn't fair game for now though!

Dark Mirror, Sailor Arnica and Dark Mirror, Eternal Remarque
Remarque managed a bit of a laugh, though it was still a bit restrained. “Oh, you’ve caught me. Once upon a time I might have been a bit more rambunctious. But I’ve learned a few things since I first started out. I’ll teach you, sometime. When things calm down a bit. When we’re back in Destiny City.”
He eyed the area contemplatively, taking in all of the faces. Some he recognized, some he didn’t. The war was always bringing in new faces and washing others out. There was a lot about this place that he didn’t like.
But then, he wasn’t the sort of person who appreciated his autonomy taken from him.
Arnica smiled at Shaowei again, polite and grateful. He looked into the stew for a moment, like he had to brace himself; it obviously wasn’t that he didn’t trust his fellow Dark Mirror Senshi--it was that he didn’t trust here.
But, he didn’t have many options, and he wanted to keep his strength about him. He sipped at the step and held the flavor in his mouth for a moment, considered, and then nodded before raising the bowl and downing a sizeable portion. He barely had time to taste it but he exhaled and gave it a few seconds to settle. “It’s a strange flavor. It’s not bad,” he insisted, “But it’s like I can’t…”
His voice trailed off. “...Taste it. Like. I felt it. I think.” Did he? He smacked his lips for a moment and then rubbed at them before his lips pursed. He seemed to be considering this but finally just shrugged and down the rest--even if he definitely didn’t taste anything going down that time. Even if he definitely couldn’t feel his lips, or tongue, or throat.
But other than that he felt fine--and full, even.
“Well. It’s good, I think. Thank you. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so full so fast.”

Pasithee finally felt like she could speak again. "Well, I can't say it's good... I can't say that it is bad... At least it is edible." She tried a small small smile, but her lips were indeed numb as well. It wasn't very comfortable and she was sure Shaowei could see that that she was uncomfortable smiling and she was sorry. She regained her composure. "But yes, one bowl and I am full."

Chambersite snorted at the Egyptian-themed Senshi. "Same here". He didn't really care to converse too much with her, and he was much more interested in the others. He hadn't met any Dark Mirror, especially one that seemed to be an Eternal. It was an interesting difference, and he wondered what the advantage of Dark Mirror was versus being a regular old Senshi. That was when the "Chef" answered him and he nodded. "It smells interesting. I would like to try some." Try being the key word. He didn't quite trust other's cooking, at least compared to himself, which is why he rarely if ever went out unless he trusted the restaurant. And even then it was still a gamble. And the other's reactions to it were proving him right. Edible, but tasteless. He supposed it was the best that they would be able to do out here without knowing what everything was. "Well, at least it should work. Though if anyone does have any side effects, I would like to know." He said, giving a glance at Athalia. He looked at his own portion that had now been given to him while the Chef had been filling bowls and looked at it with some dread. After a while, and a sigh, he decided that it might just be best to eat it all at once and not let it sit in his mouth. And he certainly felt it. And couldn't help but make a noise when he felt it hit his stomach. "Well, I didn't know that bricks could be edible, but here we are." He took a look at Shaowei. "No offense, I doubt it was your cooking," He said, making sure to not show a face that he was lying. "Seems that our stomachs aren't quite used to... whatever it is that is edible around here." Was it mean to eat without being cooked then? If he had time and enough ingredients, he might experience, but that hadn't been the case so far. --------------------------------------------------- Jacques LécuyerThe Senshi who looked like she had stepped out of Egypt was the first to address him. "Jacques, though you can call me Jack if it's easier." He didn't like hearing his name mispronounced and garbled so much, so if others preferred to use the easier nickname he didn't mind. It seemed their current chef was getting a bit uncomfortable with the crowding from what Jacques could tell and he coudln't blame her. There wasn't much to do in this situation other than watching one person do whatever activity it was and perhaps watching the food cook. He was starving though, and from what he could tell, it wasn't something to savor, and may even go straight to the stomach. But he would take what he could get. "Thanks for the food." He said to Shoawei before gulping it down and almost wishing he hadn't. Hopefully it would last another day for him, but he really, really wanted to get out of here and back to their own civilization.

Arnica received several blinks in response to his description and Shaowei regarded her stew for a moment with curiosity. So far Pasithee had indicated it was 'okay', Arnica couldn't taste it, and just as she was beginning to query whether or not Athalia had actually been telling the truth about his experience...Chambersite indicated that he appeared to have swallowed bricks. She gave the stew another stir, shook the pot ever so slightly and peered in to it again.
"You're welcome," She added to Jaques with a smile, much like Athalia he hadn't necessarily gone in to detail and had merely accepted what he'd been given. Whether that was a good or bad thing or not remained to be seen, but given she'd now had a number of different descriptions of the exact same food it seemed appropriate that she taste it herself. She'd tasted it before of course, she'd had to make sure the seasoning was ok, but she hadn't actually properly gulped anything down and it seemed like that might have been a step that she had missed.
...Out here it seemed it was a fundamental component of cooking.
Dobbing some of the stew into a bowl she blew on it and regarded each of the men and Pasithee briefly before taking a bite herself. Either they were all emssing with her or something was definitely not quite right with it.
"You're right," she said finally as she shook her head at Pasithee. "It's edible, but I don't really know how I feel about it," she picked at it for a time, she didn't seem to have any side effects but despite her best attempts it all seemed very bland and uneventful. It was rather strange in that respect as she had, at the very least, felt like the taste had been right during the initial steps. "At least you're feeling full though, right? I suppose that counts as a win."
"I wouldn't worry about it, Shaowei," Athalia said finally, acknowledging that he may be subject to great misfortune later if he wasn't feeling anything now, but he'd cross that bridge when he came to it. Truth be told if he was going to have any side effects he wished he'd been like the others and had them now! Nevertheless when it came to priorities he seemed to be largely concerned with soothing an otherwise forlorn Dark Mirror - she'd tried her best, it wasn't her fault that they were where they were and that their little world was like this.
"Any time this happens there's usually something that goes haywire," he glanced briefly at each of those round him. Honestly they may have been adversaries but right now they just seemed like ordinary people, all extraordinarily unimpressed people who would rather not be here, but just people all the same. "None of us ask for it but we still get thrown in to the mix."
"I'll take tasteless over any other less desirable side effects," he added and gave a small wave of his hand. "For future experiments you may just have to find stronger condiments."
"I don't think I saw any Cayenne Pepper on my hunt," she admitted with a sigh, but she supposed that he had a point and so long as they were all fed at least, then that was something. "Although if you all start feeling way weirder you'll tell me right? I'd sooner know if things went wrong so that I can maybe avoid the same mix next time," she admitted with a nervous laugh.

Pasithee frowned. "I usually dislike Cayenne pepper, but it would at least improve this." She turned towards Shaowei. "No offense." She started to get up to leave. POP! A Purple Bubble popped out of her ear. "Oh dear."
