Together the trio made their way through the endless plains of fog until something broke the monotony of the horizon. A tower of some sort rose high above them, and in his ear he heard something whisper nasty things. Wanting to come here? Whatever the hell was in Dawson's head didn't know him very well if they thought he wanted to be in some neon-lighted nightmare as a horseman. Even if said horseman could have been a model.

There were others there, some Halloween, some hunters. He kept an eye on them and hovered by both Maebe and America nonetheless as they searched for a way out. This was interrupted the moment they entered the lobby. A group of shadows immediately seemed to teleport in front of them in a semi-circle, each of varying shape but equal ferocity.

Syn called charge ready with a satisfied purr, but Dawson staved off using it. As far as he was concerned, he needed to save it for one of the others just in case something went wrong, especially in America's case. He didn't know yet how much the de-aging had affected her combat prowess, seeing as this was the first time he had gotten to witness it, but he couldn't be too careful. (It was a blessing and a curse.)

Feeling a second wind come over him--perhaps a placebo effect of his own making, as the chimera swore her Fear charge was still in check, or perhaps just another weird dream thing he couldn't question at the moment--Dawson swung like a madman until the majority of the shadows were destroyed. And then he turned and readied himself to help the girls with the others.

Summoning her weapon, America was totally ready to like, either beat the heck out of these shadow people or get beat up herself. The latter wasn't something she was all that worried about. She was really tough now, right? And healed super quickly? Besides, the last one had been kinda fun!

With a whoop, the girl rushed into the group of shadows, slamming chain and heavy bladed ball into them. Several went down, all explodey like and that hurt but not enough to make this any less awesome.

"Did you see that?! I'm gonna go again! You should record this on your phones!" She struck a pose and missed the next strike horribly, but that was fine too.

Maebe looked a little put out at the idea that Dawson wanted all the big ones. She rather liked taking down the big ones, when given the chance. They always fell the hardest. But at the very least, America was enjoying herself. She tried to take heart in that.

Soon enough, Maebe found a whole swarm of horsemen wrapping around her specifically, and Thaw was held at length to keep them from getting too close. "Now, now, boys, one at a time. I'm not that kind of girl."

Despite how well that worked, Maebe's sore arm muscles informed her that it was a one time deal. She whined as a Horseman attacked her from behind, and took to stabbing the remaining two from a distance, using Thaw as he was intended instead of like some kind of fishing pole.

She dropped to one knee when she was done, reaching out to rub an aching shoulder.

"Stop picking up guys in strange places, Maebe."

The chest bump was had, but it took Syn's hiss in his head not to follow America against the things that continued to crop up. The young cannot learn if you shield them. He sighed and nursed his wounds instead as he watched her and Maebe take the rest of the shadows out, cursing that he hadn't finished the jenga tower yet. That was going up on the list of things to do.

But nothing the chimera could tell him would stop Dawson from acting when he felt that familiar shiver up his spine, that tingling sensation of extended senses that said hey fatass there's something nasty behind you. He turned to see Maebe dangling by her weapon as it buried in the thing, and he opened his mouth to say--well, he didn't know. Maybe scream instead. It rushed out of him without form as he fumbled for something, anything at his belt, and found the leather sheath therein.

"Meri, get behind me," he said shortly, aiming the runic dagger at the ground between Maebe and the intruder. He should have known: these things needed solid ground, and who was to say the area around them was even real? The dagger barely lit up, its power breakable by a gust of wind.

"Rude showin' up to the party late, buster."

Maebe tried, her very hardest, not to notice that Dawson's runic dagger seemed to sputter at its impact. He was trying his best to protect America, keeping her behind, but that was America - young or not, Maebe knew she was going to come out fighting.

At least she was cautious about it.

Standing up again, Maebe rubbed a hand along her sore a**, and stomped on her heels as she stormed past the barrier and twirled Thaw in her hand. Whatever this was, it was best to just die quicker rather than take her time and play with it. Not as fun, but Maebe didn't look like she was in the mood for games, in that moment.

The click-clack of her heels quickened as she started running in for another attack, choosing to dig Thaw lower so as not to be hanging limp from him after she'd sliced the Horseman across the side. It retaliated immediately, but she stood her ground. Another dig, another twirl, another slice. It roared with indignation at her steady attacks.

And she didn't even have anything clever to say about it.
