N'ezi-ozu
Keepers of the Dead

Hello and welcome to a contest for the N'ezi-ozu, SoA's newest lined pride! In this thread, we will be looking for 2-3 owners for this new pride, as well as players for assorted members of the pride. The N'ezi-ozu reuse what were previously the lines for the Jini-msemi, edited by Tonberry Queen X for use for our new pride. If you're interested, either in pride ownership or just in having one for yourself, please read on!

    Pride Ownership Contest Rules
  • Everyone is free to enter this contest. Leadership characters will be provided for the winners.
  • The N'ezi-ozu is considered a shop pride - this means that, like the Firekin, Pridelands, and Ela'wadiyi, if all chosen owners for the pride lose ownership for failing to keep up with lined-pride ownership requirements, the pride will revert to the shop to be contested to new owners.
  • As with when the Firekin was contested off to new owners, everyone will be entering individually. We will choose 2-3 winners from the entrants to be the group who runs the pride. You should be prepared and able to work with ANYONE who might enter, to share responsibilities, communicate, and work together. If you prove incapable of this, after investigation you may be removed as leader.
  • The central characters provided, which you will meet further down in this thread, will be considered Feature Characters; if, for some reason, you lose your OOC leadership position and do not regain it within 4 months, the shop [working in conjunction with the remaining owner(s)] may kill or rehome your leadership character. In this way, OOC leadership can change without having to put the pride through another IC upheaval.
  • As well as receiving the central characters, owners will be given additional information not provided here, primarily relating to a metaplot you will be expected to run.
  • Many details and mechanics of the pride are already established here, but there are a couple of things you will have to do, such as flesh out territory details and determine what the Trials of the King actually entail.
  • This contest will close in 2 weeks, on Thursday June 22 at 6 PM Eastern Time.

    Character Adoption Contest Rules
  • Anyone can enter, for as many character(s) as they like, but may only win one (unless we end up with fewer entrants than characters).
  • Characters given here may be injured or even killed in the course of the metaplot that will be run by the pride owners. If your character dies as a result of the meta, you will receive a consolation character.
  • Many of these characters have family, so you must be prepared to work and RP with whomever receives your character's relative(s), or anyone else you may be paired with during the meta.
  • This contest will close in 2 weeks, on Thursday June 22 at 8 PM Eastern Time. After the contest closes, there will also be a raffle for more pride members, open to anyone who doesn't win one here.

HISTORY

The N'ezi-ozu are an ancient pride, their origins obscured by time and myth. No one can say where they truly came from, but according to their own accounts, they are descended from 13 lions once chosen by Death himself to know and keep his secrets. In the early days of the world, Mkodi left a riot of life in her wake, giving rise to everything from gods to mortals to populate her grand creation, but there was one being she did not create. Some say that she did so unintentionally, that he was born as a natural consequence of life, for what lives must also die, but that is not what the N'ezi-ozu believe. They believe that Death came into being with the universe itself, preceding Mkodi and her earthly creations, and that though he chose to bow to her, it is alliance, not allegiance, a symbiotic relationship wherein whatever life she gives, he will eventually take.

The world grew, prides and empires fell, and the N'ezi-ozu watched. They saw the consequences of reaching beyond one's purpose, and to prevent themselves from doing the same, they withdrew from the outside world. In time, they were almost entirely forgotten, and though life was not without its trials, they endured. They were insular by nature, fearing corruption by Mkodi's children, but they could not afford to close themselves off completely without risking extinction, so when new blood was required, it would be taken in with guidance from the Amoosu, absorbed into existing families as necessary. Still, even with occasional infusions of outside blood, certain genetic traits remain strong: most notably, they are smaller than average, and natural colors - pale and dark in particular - far exceed more vibrant ones.

Though they have narrowly avoided jamming themselves into a genetic bottleneck, their isolation and traditions nearly killed them anyway. The plague that took such a toll on the rest of the continent generations ago did not leave the N'ezi-ozu untouched: it slipped in with a rogue deemed worthy of becoming one of them, and ultimately wiped out nearly half the population. Perhaps the death toll wouldn't have been so high, if it hadn't been for their extreme veneration of the dead. It is only in the years since the plague that they have laid the bodies of their dead at the borders to be picked at by scavengers; for most of the pride's history, it was they who consumed the flesh of the dead, taking into themselves the strength and life of the deceased. Only when it was dicovered that this practice was making the plague more virulent did it stop. There are a few - not many and very old, but a few - in the pride who remember and took part in the old tradition.

The pride staggered onward, clinging to life but more suspicious of outsiders than ever, and though the plague had ended, their numbers slowly dwindled as fewer cubs were born. Then came the earthquake, that seemed a cataclysm - the bones of their ancestors were disturbed, and some portions of the catacombs collapsed and remain inaccessible to this day. The Amoosu became preoccupied with accounting for every displaced bone and putting it back with the skeleton or at the very least the family to which it belonged, not only paying even less mind to the greater world, but to the living pride itself. Years passed in this way, the pride barely clinging to life as the eldest Amusu insisted that none of the new blood with which they were presented was worthy of being made family. Litters became rarer and smaller, owing to a decrease in fertility as a consequence of the shallow gene pool - everyone is related at least distantly, and often at more than one point in their lineage.

Now, the the old Onyeisi, who had lived through both plague and earthquake, has passed into death, leaving behind only two sons who could succeed him, Owu and Itiri. According to tradition, they will undergo the Trials of the King to determine who is fit to be the new Onyeisi. Whoever emerges triumphant, they will have a fight on their paws if the N'ezi-ozu are to survive.

RELIGION

Over and above all other gods, the N'ezi-ozu revere and worship Death; they recognize that others exist, and respect them as beings more powerful than mortals, but offer them no devotion. Death, they believe, is the great unifier of all beings: everyone, regardless of their status and deeds in life, will one day be taken by Death to pass through the Gates of Heaven, never again to be known on the mortal plane.

...well, almost never. For it is also in Death's power - indeed, it is his right - to deem a soul unready for its eternal rest and deny it entrance to the afterlife, forcing it to be born again into a mortal form until its purpose has been fulfilled. This rare occurrence is regarded neither as an honor nor a punishment; it is simply the will and judgement of Death, whose reasons can be guessed at but never known. Reincarnation is not a goal strived for by the N'ezi-ozu: they revere Death, after all, not the continuation of life, although it would also be incorrect to assume that they are eager for their own deaths. Death is an honor to be earned, not blindly hurried toward. The better, fuller a life one has lived, the more deeply they will be missed and the longer they will be remembered by the kin they leave behind.

Unsurprising in a culture so steeped in death, the N'ezi-ozu venerate their ancestors. While of course they believe in an eventual afterlife for all souls, they also believe they know how to keep a soul grounded to the earth, bound to their living family until the spirit is deemed fully prepared to move on. When a member of the N'ezi-ozu dies, their body is laid out for scavengers and the elements to pick clean until nothing is left but bone; while all scavengers are welcome to help free the skeleton from its flesh, they are not permitted to take even the smallest bone. Deep in the sacred heart of the pride's territory is a complex system of caves set aside not as a dwelling for the living, but for the dead, and in these catacombs rest the bones of every pride member who has ever passed.

It is the duty of the Amoosu - the death-priests - to lay to rest the bones of the dead with those of their family who came before. The bones of each and every lion rest in a carefully defined and outlined place, marked in a system only the Amoosu know and comprehend, so that they know exactly which bones belonged to which lion, no matter how old they are. To ensure that the bones are not disturbed or misplaced, no one who is not an Amusu is ever to enter the catacombs. They are the custodians of the remains, with one exceptions: the skulls, after being ritually prepared, complete with claw-carved markings to identify them, are given to the family of the deceased to rest at the family's shrine. In this way, with the skull properly prepared and tended, the spirit of the deceased is bound to the skull, where it will live for an indeterminate amount of time. One day, whether after a year or ten years or however long it takes, an Amusu will proclaim that it is time at last for the soul to depart. Once all its living family had paid their final respects, the skull will be shattered and the fragments placed with the rest of the skeleton in the catacombs.

In rare cases, when great crime or treachery has been committed, no bones but the skull will be kept. The skull will still be prepared in the ritual that binds the soul to it, but it will be neither enshrined nor shattered. It will be buried deep within the earth to be forgotten, the soul forever trapped, never to move on to the afterlife. Among the N'ezi-ozu, there is no greater punishment.

TERRITORY

Jebel Marra/Deriba Caldera. Part of the reason the N'ezi-ozu have remained unknown to the outside world is due to their distance from the main SoA lands - to travel to the Caldera from the Pridelands would take close to five weeks. The current closest pride is Tianxia, which lies about a week and a half to the east of N'ezi lands.

FAMILY

The Thirteen Families of the N'ezi-ozu each trace their heritage back to Death's thirteen chosen from whom they descend. They are a patriarchal society, and lineage is followed through male lines, although there is no formal division of families in life - these are not clans or houses, and they do not use surnames. It is in death that family becomes most important, as each family has its own shrine and its own section of the catacombs. No family is known for any one trait, physical or otherwise, as by this point they have all married back and forth into each other so many times that whatever defining features they may once have had have long been lost. Each family is known by the name of its founder, who themselves bore the names of causes of death.

When a couple is married, the female becomes a part of the male's family, and that is the family into which their cubs will be born. When an outsider joins the pride, the Amoosu will commune with the ancestors to determine which family wants them, and a living member of that family is expected to step forward and exchange blood with the newcomer, solidifying their new bond. From that day onward, for all intents and purposes, the newcomer is as brother or sister to the one who came forward for them. In the N'ezi-ozu, there is no difference between a blood-sibling and a biological sibling: they are related, which means they will not be able to take as mate anyone to whom they are now related more closely than second cousin.

TRADITIONS

Species
The N'ezi-ozu are a lion-only pride, and very limited in their acceptance of familiars. Amoosu may partner with ravens, N'echebe with vultures, and Enyi with jackals.

Names
Names must come from a language in the Bantu family.

Marriage
The N'ezi-ozu mate for life, and more often than not for love. There are no arranged marriages; although family members may 'encourage' certain matches, the final choice is always up to the prospective couple. Adolescent marriages are uncommon, but neither forbidden nor actively discouraged. If a female becomes pregnant without being married, then congratulations! You're married now. If she refuses to identify the father and he does not step forward, she will be stripped of her family and expelled from the pride. If this happens, and the father later reveals himself or is discovered, he too will be disowned and exiled.

Rogue breeding is not permitted under any circumstances; if it was done willingly, the offender will be disowned and thrown out. If the mother is a victim, she will be allowed to stay if she so chooses, but as they have no father, her cubs have no family, and will be treated in a similar fashion to rogues: an Amusu will examine and determine to what, if any, family they will belong. It is possible that some or all of the cubs will be rejected, in which case they will be taken beyond the borders and left.

Hybrid breeding is absolutely not allowed, and though as with rogue breeding the mother will be permitted to stay if she was unwilling, the cubs will always be killed.

A widowed lion/ess may remarry, though in the case of a lioness, it must be into the same family as her previous mate so that she isn't changing families a second time. If her deceased mate has an unmated (or widowed) brother, it is common for him to offer to marry her, though he is not obligated to make the offer, nor she to accept it.

Divorce is extremely rare, and only possible if the couple has not yet had children together. If it is a case of disappearance of the mate's player, after 6 months the mate can be written as having disappeared/being presumed dead, in which case the remaining lion/ess will be considered a widow.

Gender and Sexuality
The N'ezi-ozu are...neither fully open- nor closed-minded. They have no room for genders other than male and female, but do accept that someone in a male body can truly be female and vice versa, and an individual will be regarded as the gender they say they are. Same-gender marriages are accepted, but surrogacy gets a little tricky, due to the importance of family lines. Ideally, the surrogate should be a sibling of one of the parents, but if neither parent has a sibling who can serve as a surrogate, another family member can be sought. If the potential surrogate has a mate, their mate must also agree to the arrangement.

Accessories
Shortly after birth, the Amoosu grant each cub a token of protection: a tail vertebra from their most recently-deceased ancestor, which is strung onto a simple leather necklace that they will wear until adolescence. Once the first token is no longer needed, it will be returned to rest with the skeleton it came from.

Upon coming of age, an adolescent will surrender their childhood token and be presented with a new one, this one chosen by the Amoosu from amongst all the deceased family of the young lion/ess. It is always a phalange - a toe-and-claw bone - which females traditionally tie into their hair and males wear as a necklace, and is more decorated than the token that preceded it, but the bone itself is never painted or altered. When a lion/ess dies, their token will be returned to their ancestor.

Joining
Joining will not be open until after the pride has been contested off and the pride is brought to a point where joining is ICly possible. Even then, there will be a limit of one joining lion/ess per player per year, so you will need to choose carefully.

When someone applies to join, a number will be randomized from 1-13, corresponding to the Thirteen Families (numbered in alphabetical order) and determining which one they will belong to.

Crimes and Punishments
Rogue or Hybrid Breeding: disowned and exiled
Infidelity: both parties disowned and exiled
Trespassing in Catacombs: blinded, regardless of age
Murder, Rape, Infliction of Serious Intentional Harm: death, after which the skull will be prepared and buried to prevent the soul from ever reaching the afterlife

RANKS

Onyeisi (chieftain)
The ruler of the pride, descended from the original king, Akaraaka, whose line has never been broken. The Onyeisi, ostensibly, is in charge of all mundane matters within the pride, guides the Thirteen Families, and enforces the laws. He also decides when the pride is open to allowing in a rogue, although the final decision of whether or not the rogue will be accepted rests with the Amoosu. In recent years, the power of the Onyeisi has waned.

Adaeze (princess)
Wife of the Onyeisi.

Amusu pl. Amoosu (witch)
The death-priests, who are responsible for preparing and caring for the bones of the ancestors, bestowing the bone-tokens worn by the pride, and determining what outsiders will be permitted into the pride - and to which family they will belong. Only Amoosu are permitted to enter the catacombs. Under the guidance of Isiike, they grew in strength until their power eclipsed that of the Onyeisi.

Traditionally, all Amoosu are male, and there is no more than one Amusu at a time from each family (but not every family always has an Amusu). Potential Amoosu are usually identified as cubs, and must exhibit patience, intelligence, and willingness and ability to learn.

Di-anyi pl. Enyi (friend)
While the Amoosu tend to the dead, the Enyi tend to the living. These are the healers of the pride, and traditionally all Enyi are female.

N'echebe (protector)
Scout and guard rolled into one, the N'echebe are responsible for patrolling the borders and detaining or repelling rogues. They also keep vigil over the dead when they are laid out, to ensure that no bones are taken.

Ezinulo (family)
Default rank among the N'ezi-ozu. Everyone helps out in whatever area(s) they're most useful in as far as hunting, cub-sitting, teaching, and other such tasks go.

Ntakiri (small)
Cubs.

Avoiding Solos for this one!

One of the things not predetermined in the pride's info is what the Trials of the King actually entail. What are your ideas?:
As the name entails, there would be several 'tasks' that those who would be identified as worthy would need to partake in.

While open to debate, a part of me would like to emphasise that the potential for death upon failure is very real. As the pride doesn't regard death as bad, it could be assumed that on this occasion the spirit wasn't ready for such a responsibility. Upon the expiry of that participant they would either move on into the next realm following the appropriate send off, or it could be implied that if they were destined for greater things, they would be reborn at a later date.

Consequently, I would like to follow a similar cliche (I apologise) of testing the mind, the body and the spirit through these challenges.

    Mind - INTELLIGENCE
A test of the intelligence of the individual. This would include solving riddles, puzzles and even providing answers the death priests. This aspect of the trials is fairly easy and any individual who had been appropriate educated should (in theory), pass them.

Twist:- None on this one, if there's a twist e.g. Failure, it will be up to the participants!

    Body - ENDURANCE
A leader must be in good health and capable of bearing a great deal of strain in hard times. Once again this challenge would be reasonable 'simple' in that it simply involves completing a task set out by those overseeing these trials. This task doesn't necessarily involve exploring the regions beyond their home, but it may, and often does, result in them being required to traverse regions that aren't the most forgiving.

Worse still? They will find themselves subject to several assaults from shadowed assailants, whether this be through sneak attacks, traps, or obstacles that wouldn't have been their previously if one had attempted to explore prior to these challenges.

It would display endurance and tenacity, particularly in the face of adversary.

Twist #1:- Due to the possibility of having multiple heirs, this can be RNG based, so no one will be aware of who will be King until after all the trials have been completed!
Twist #2:- Accidents can happen and individuals can become injured or die. Dice rolls may be a possibility for this to determine the level of injury as well?

    Spirit - TRUTH/HONESTY
The Pride knows how to commune with the spirits to a certain degree, they tend to these bodies and have the utmost care and respect for them. However, while no one may reach the lofty heights of the death priests themselves, it is still required for the potential king to open his soul to the possibility of what lies beyond the veil.

During this period the death priests will induce a trance within the participant using the necessary herbs. Once the participant has entered this trance the priest will lead them on a journey through their own subconcious while asking questions that test the values and views that the participant may not always voice. In essence it's a journey towards the truth.

Twist #1:- There are no right or wrong answers to this one!
Twist #2:- RNG based, while there are no right or wrong answers, in the event of multiple worthy heirs, all of those who wish to partake will need to roll accordingly. Threshold for success to be determined, not necessarily the "Highest score wins".
Twist #3:- Possibility that they will respond poorly to the herbs used and might never be capable of leaving their trance? Very rare outcome, I'd imagine the priests would know what they were doing with this one.

Please provide links to at least 2 RP samples:
  • Gathering Storm - Multiple participants
  • Shhh, no advice! - Tethys x Eir
  • Priestess Me! - Datura x Dione

List which characters most interest you and why, in order of preference:
I'd be interested in mystery characters!

In order of preference (I haven't entered for everyone I swear, probably close though x_X )...
    1. Isiike
There is nothing I love more than playing a stubborn and gruff sort of character. I'd love to work out why he didn't necessarily approve of the new blood presented to them etc. More importantly, will he finally lose his influence in the wake of the new blood that will eventually have to join the pride to save it? He made those choices, some might even say it was his decisions and opinions that caused the dwindling lines... So maybe he needs reined in, eh?

    2. Kemmasi
His family died during the plague, but would he have attempted to save them? Would he have some level of understanding when it came to apocrathy, would he have been too young? I'd like to explore that.

    3. Amara
Her parents certainly had something in mind for her and her siblings when they were named and I imagine she'd like to live up to that...

    4. Nchapu
I'd imagine him to be quite the philosophical sort, I could see him being quite inclined towards the catacombs and their upkeep. Perhaps more forgiving than others...

    5. Nkwusi
Similar to his sister. He's lost a great deal and I'd like to explore how he feels about the entire thing. Would he become angry, bitter? Would he learn to forgive? Overall, his journey could lead him to somewhere special or he could simply embrace normality.

    6. Gbaruo
He's a surviving relative of the two orphaned adolescents, would he step in to some degree or would he avoid them? Something to consider with whoever were to win them!

    7. Keoyi
Her name seems to imply she's cold, but is she really? Perhaps she truly loves her children and deeply grieves for her mate, just because she came from the Apathy line doesn't mean that's who she truly is!

    8. Ntunnanya
To explore how her family unit would work, how does her mother act now she's a widow... how were they raised regarding the pride and those who brought it in etc.

    9. Naani
She's very young, and like her brother, probably still grieving to a degree. I'd like to see if I could explore how she feels about the plague and just how much damage it did to her family.

    10. Ebere
Does he live up to his name? Only time will tell, but perhaps his parents knew what they were doing in the wake of the birth of their cubs...

    11. Mgbamizu
Pretty much the same as his sister, I'd like to explore this family dynamic!

Nkwusi - The idea of him being they very last member of a family is a fun thing to play with. His sister, if she marries at all, will have to join whatever family her mate belongs to, leaving Nkwusi as the sole member of his family. Will he take it upon himself to try to preserve the Uju line? Will he just let it die off with him? It'll definitely weigh on his mind and shape the path of his future no matter what he decides! (Spoilers, he's totally going to try to rejuvenate the Uju family. His success with that is still TBD)

Kemmasi - A lion who lives up to his name, Kemmasi is curious to the point of danger. Everyone is surprised Death hasn't called him yet with the things he gets into. Rather chipper and perhaps a bit overenthusiastic about things, Kemmasi is an optimist with little regard for his safety. He's generally got some sort of healing wound on him from his ventures and has a limp from one climbing expedition that went horribly wrong.

Gbaruo - Although not in the Uju family, with the passing of both of his niece and nephews parents, he'll take it upon himself to ensure they are raised as well as they can be. Jaded and rather cold to anyone but the two cubs, he feels as if his mission in life is to ensure they are without want or need while he can provide for them.

    Wouldn't mind the mystery characters!
Naani - To be honest, Naani reminds me of another orphaned cub I once played. There's something heart-wrending and lovely about playing a child whose family is the pride, and I can only imagine how much she relies on her brother. I want to kind of stretch the idea of who they are, and explore the bearings of being the last of their blood.

Amara- I love growing family members. Coming in writing her at adolescense gives her a chance to grow and come to exist beyond the simple statement that her name makes. I do intend to stick somewhat to what her name means, exploring her grace and elegance, while still growing her to fit precisely within the pride.

Keoyi - Losing your mate before the birth of your cubs can be devestating. Even with her cubs born, I can only imagine how much Keoyi misses her mate. I want to play on how being a widow of a plague victim effects her relationships with family, and see how it changes with time.

Ntunnanya - Being born during the plague can effect the way the mind of a cub grows. She would remember the things that happened, and it might even effect how she responds to those around her I see her being a bit more quiet and shy, unwilling to speak up....Idk I'm tossing ideas.

    Juu - Juu will live up to her name, a quiet, but bright little thing, whose mind is sharp as a tack. I have a few different ideas for plot that could come with her, but I would have to actually write XD;

Akwa - Akwa takes to being a support to her mate most of the time. She is proud, strong-willed, and often seems to be intent on her one-track mind, but at the same time, she is always going to be with him as best she can. This is the kind of character I see for her, I think.

Nnunu- I want to make her the sort to sing and dance, a smiling, happy sort who just wants to help alleviate any upset. Think like an omega in a wolf pack, or a king's jester. She's going to be bright, bubbly, and see levity as the best way to handle things.

List which characters most interest you and why, in order of preference:

    1. Urupuru: Coming from the family of love and one whose name means cloud, I want to play him as a lion who is always got some sort of lovely idea in his head for his family. He is welcoming and endearing to those within his family.

    2. Isiike: As his name suggests he will be stubborn. He enjoys a little bit of mockery of a few others though in the quiet of his self exile with himself. He doesn't want a mate, or at least that's what he keeps telling himself, since no one seems to be able to put up with him. Though it would take a very cunning lioness who could put up with him to change that... maybe.

    3. Naani: I want her to be full of life, despite the terrible things that are happening around her. I also would love to have her starting to really take a shining to Ebere and wanting to sing and dance with him. Even trying to get her brother to sing and dance.

    4. Nkwusi: He will be a little somber but likes to sing, a lot of times only in the company of his sister. He remains strong as he is the male of line, plus he has to keep watch over his sister so nothing else bad may happen to the pair of them.

    5. Nnunu: She is gentle and overly caring. Sometimes her mind also wanders. Thinking about all the things she could do. She has structure in how she perceives what must be done and is always consulting Urupuru about things.

I am also very interested in the mystery characters!

Amara : Ambitious, wants to become a great healer. She will be strong willed, she will wish for their borders to become more lenient, perhaps the outside world can bring with it new cures for illness and injury. She has a will to learn everything she can.

Naani : I like the idea of a developing character, someone young enough to form her own ideas about the world inside and outside of the pride. I'd also like to explore how she is with her brother since he is her closest relative and they have no parents.

Juu : I'd love to develop an almost silent character whom expresses her will through actions rather than words, she will be an observant watcher only expressing her opinion when it really matters.

Urupuru : Knowledgable in many things Urupuru will be a loud objector to allowing any outsiders in. He is angry about how the pride has been decimated but fears for the future of the pride if another plague should hit. I'd like to develop the relationship with his mate and children perhaps with some conflict with his young brood.

Nnuunu: I'd love to develop their marriage, love, hate, children, how does she feel, is it a marriage for love or convenience?

Also interested in mystery characters ^_^!

I'm interested in mystery characters as well!

    1. Juu
    - I imagine her being pretty soft-spoken, but sort of judgmental on the inside. Although continuing the family as well as leadership of the pride will fall to Itiri or Owu, she's not above whispering her opinions into her brothers' ears. Whether she uses that to help her pride or manipulate things into her favor is yet to be seen. In her eyes though, letting a rogue in is what brought the plague. Ergo, she's not terribly fond of newcomers, not that she'll be anything but cordial towards them when they meet.

    2. Keoyi
    - She seems like someone who'd be bitter and antagonistic towards everyone. She had to live through the plague, lost her mate during it, the pride is beginning to change, one daughter has already married and left the family, and she knows that her other daughter could do the same, which will leave her and her son as the only ones left in the family. As such, I see her favoring her son like no tomorrow, which leaves her daughters lost in translation.

    3. Ebere
    - Awkward and unsure, I see Ebere as someone who's clumsy and nervous about a lot of things. His attempts to court Naani have so far not been going well, but he's sure about pursuing her. He wants to see her happy, and he'll go to great lengths to do so.

    4. Ntunnanya
    - Despite being born during the plague, I see Ntunnanya as being pretty optimistic. (and I love optimistic characters) She sees the world with wonder (as is her namesake) and almost seems to walk with her head in the clouds. This can lead her into bad situations though....

    5. Naani
    - Someone very sad and very lonely. She seems like the type who will sit there and wistfully think about her parents, as well as dread whatever comes in the future. She more or less ignores the fact that Ebere is trying to court her, but perhaps something will happen that finally gets her to give him a shot?

    6. Urupuru
    - Someone just happy to have survived past the plague. He's trying to protect and lead his family to the best of his abilities. I see him as quiet but sensible.

    7. Nnunu
    - On the opposite spectrum to her mate, I see her as someone who's a bit loud and abrasive, a notorious gossip who listens in on other's conversations, and a hopeless romantic. Someone who likes playing match-maker, and is enjoying giving her son tips on how to do so. (which sometimes backfires)

Would love a chance at a mystery character !

    1. Obiike - First was attracted to him by his name alone. I love that it means brave. I want him to feel the need to live up to his name but not always be able to. Example - he was the only surviving cub from his litter. He's terrified to have cubs afraid the same fate may come to them but would never say that out loud. Also I really like that he's closely related to Itiri, Owu and Juu. I want him to feel pressured even more to have to put on his best brave face because of that despite what ever complicated feelings he may feel. Mostly, I have a ton of ideas for him.

    2. Gbaruo - I may have a type.... But honestly it wasn't appearances as much as it was his name that drew me to him and the fact he's an Amusu and his sister has passed. I don't believe his name says much about him as I would think he's more complex and actually takes a lot of pride and joy in his job. Mostly, the perk of being able to go in the catacombs is his favorite.

Obiike- I could see him being a very strong & silent type, supportive but firm when it was necessary towards his cousins. He would be first to jump in if they needed help, but only if they haven't made fools of themselves to get into trouble. Not afraid to be blunt in his brevity either.
Gbaruo- Literally because of his color, no regrets. Butnoreally probably a miserable bugger to everyone, which would explain his singleness and lack of even looking for a bride.
Juu- Keeps to herself, though she's a romantic at heart and enjoys watching the pairings of lovers as an uplifting experience compared to the plague of the past.
And YES to mystery characters! 8D
