Tytus joins the shop! (4.25.17)

Art (5.5.17)
PostPosted: Fri May 05, 2017 3:09 pm

Name: Tytus Rakgazi
Nickname: Ty
Stage: 2
Race: Oban
Gender: Male
Appearance A lot like the reference to the left. Tytus is a lean man who wears a lot of open tunics so that he can stay cool while working in the desert. He also sports a leather choker around his neck with a gemstone and an armlet.

He has three gemstones on one side of his face while he also has several larger crystals on his back / shoulders. A few stones are also along his hips though those are rarely seen.
Base Traits: Whimsical, Physical, Empathetic
Personality:
Tytus has a very random and wild spirit. Living without parents for most his life has allowed him to freely go out and do whatever inspires him. If he decides that he wants to go on a three-day trip to go explore then he would or if he decided to have cake for breakfast one day, then he would do that as well. Even though now he works for others Ty still has that nature about him. If anything, he always speaks what is on his mind even if it does seem random and he is always seeking something fun or amusing. In his free time the boy is often creating stories to tell others or playing some pranks around the stables in which he works.

He is very physical. Touching is very important to Tytus and that is part of why he enjoys working with animals since they don’t mind him being close with them. Touching is essential to bonding with him and he is never shy around strangers. Even just patting someone on the back or ruffling another’s hair is a sign of affection from the boy. He also learns best by doing things with his hands – he was never much of one for books. Lectures are too boring, reading takes too much time, and so he would rather just go out and get it done on his own. He’s great with tinkering and avoids anything scholarly. His ability to bond with animals is what makes him valued as a worker and so despite his quirks the boy is still with the stables that hired him.

Another reason he seems to be good with animals is due to his empathy for others. Tytus, despite his trickster nature, has a very open and kind heart. He is constantly willing to sit with any stranger and listen to their tale while also taking the time to care for and tend to the animals. He’s also not afraid to shed a few tears though will quickly brush them aside and try to lighten the mood with a joke or two. However, he can get easily distracted due to being so sensitive of others as sometimes he’ll spend too much time worrying about them rather than his own growing pile of work.

History:
Tytus never knew his mother. All he knew was that his birth was the result of an affair between his father and that the woman who had to give him up at birth. His father, however, was an honorable man who took his son and raised him in Orrod. For most his youngling years, the two lived together in a simple, but comfortable life. When his father was called out to work then he would ask his friend, Arron, to watch over the youngling. Arron was a beast tamer and close friend of Gen and in a way was like another parent to young Tytus. Tytus who was young and didn’t know much about the world never bothered to care about why some children had mothers while he had two fathers. He was happy and content as was so why bother? Arron especially would spoil the boy constantly and Gen would often find his son with a new toy or with some candy sticking to his fingers.

However, years passed and the battle with the extremists came about. It was then that Gen left Tytus in care of Arron. Gen was a soldier in the Oban Army and had decided to help redeem Oba by assisting the rest of Tendaji against this new threat. While Tytus was still a youngling the boy watched his father ride away on a Janarim to never return. His loss was total heartbreak for Tytus who had begged his father to not leave him. For the first year, even the boy would deny that his father was dead and would stand every evening looking outside of the doorway and towards the horizon.

He’ll ride back at any minute now.

But it was all a lie. His father was gone, lost in the war. Arron tried his best to take place of the father, but both seemed a bit at loss without Gen to guide them. Nor did Arron know anything about the woman who had given birth to Tytus. It seemed that with the death of Gen that no one would ever find out who the mystery woman had been. So, without any more family to send Tytus to Arron ended up taking care of the boy the best that he could. Yet, he as well was in the army and constantly had to begin venturing away from home for work.

As Tytus became an apprentice he found himself drifting away from his old home as the memories that lingered there were still too much for him. Despite trying his best to smile and laugh about life he felt like a ghost lingered in that old house. So after Arron left once more to work the boy said his farewells and told the man that he would go out as well to find work. Moving a bit towards the south, Tytus found that he had a knack for taking care of animals. A frantic Xaraan had run into his path and the boy found himself calming it down. Chasing after it was another boy who thanked Tytus who helped him to go back to his home with the calmer beast.

Apparently, the boy was a noble and had wanted to show his father that he could take care of a rather wild Xaraan who had yet to be tamed by anyone. What Tytus had done impressed both father and son and as he rode the beast they asked for him to stay. They had large stables and needed an extra hand who could help with the care of the beasts. Needing a place to stay and finding comfort in the fact that he could be with creatures that he loved the apprentice agreed. So for now he works in the manor of a Noble household and tends to their creatures. He also helps to train mounts and teach those who need how to ride and bond with their animal.

In his spare time Tytus has taken to the Xaraan that still only allows him to ride it and has gotten interested in the idea of Xaraan racing – an event that he first saw with his noble friend, Yu. For now he is content to watch the racers and to have fun with Yu, but perhaps in the near future Tytus will try his own hand at racing.

Notes:
-Always whistles when he works
-May smell of animals since he is always surrounded by them.
-Can strike up conversation with any stranger without hesitation

❂ Apprentice Solo 1 ❂
Oh hey there Dad

It was early morning with the barest rays of sunlight flickering through the rafters when Tytus got up to work with the Xaraan. The pesky beast was always one to enjoy a morning run and so the boy had adapted his own sleeping patterns, from staying up all night to trying to at least sleep a few hours before dawn now, so that he could ride the beast around the tracks. And yes, tracks were a thing. The whole establishment that Tytus found himself in still amazed him to this day. His friend, Yu, was from one of the most prestigious Oban families and had even raised themselves higher after the Oban war due to aligning themselves with the right side. Thus, within the past decade what had been a simple manor had expanded into other properties until it created a huge branching estate that controlled an oasis of its own. Gardens were nothing here – the family instead insisted on raising the beast familiars possible for the army and for itself. So, the grounds were converted into stables and fields for a variety of beasts. For someone like Tytus who seemingly attracted all living creatures it was perfect. A haven for him to be himself and to spend time with animals that he could play with and not have to worry about paying for.

But playing did not mean that he was here for free. The boy did work hard as proven this morning when he mounted the Xaraan and began running paces with the creature. Yu wanted to ride the thing so Tytus was working hard to prepare it for his new master. If the damn thing would cooperate that was. Such a trickster. Tytus laughed as the Xaraan bolted at full speed and curved sharply. Before Tytus would have probably fallen on his a** in the sands, but this time the boy was more prepared so he leaned sharply into the curve with the beast. If anything, he would be a rider himself one day due to all this training. At least that was his hope for all the hours and sweat he poured into the creatures that he worked with for the masters and customers of the estate.

Wiping sweat from his brow Tytus reigned in the Xaraan and began to lead it back to the stables, “Let’s call it a day, eh? I’m wiped, Xuxu.” Even as the beast clucked in protest the boy couldn’t help laughing, “Later, later.” It was strange for others to see, but in a way the apprentice seemingly could understand at least a hint of what the creatures wanted. It was a perk he claimed from having a beast master as a father. A great man, but one that he rarely saw due to his work within the army. Always traveling and all that. The thought made Tytus sigh himself before he led the Xaraan into the stables and picked up a brush. I feel as if I did forget to do something though now that I’m thinking about Arron.” Shaking his head so that his braids tousled around in the air Tytus just shrugged before resuming his work. Brushing XuXu was at least relaxing and with each stroke the Oban found his muscles relaxing as the hype from their run began to fade away into exhaustion.

Still, as silence tried to settle over the stables the boy found himself hearing the faint approach of footsteps. Should he look up? It was probably someone just walking through, right? Probably just another servant from the estates. Nothing important. Focusing instead on his task Tytus continued, but his guess was soon proven wrong as an all too familiar sigh wafted through the air.

“It took me days to find you here.”

Blinking, Tytus glanced over at the rather petite Oban who stared him down from the stable’s entrance. Slowly sleepiness washed away from his fine features to be replaced by a brilliant smile as he recognized the older man, "Arron!” The apprentice clicked his tongue before motioning towards his father playfully, “You know I did mean to send a letter, but things have been busy around here. I thought I sent you at least some notice though.” He pursed his lips as he laid down his grooming brush and patted the Xaraan’s neck one last time before leaving the beast to saunter over towards his second father.

Immediately he was greeted with a jab to the chest before his father wrapped his arms around the boy’s shoulders, “Seriously? You meant to send a letter? Hopefully better than that small note you left, you a**.” Arron clutched the apprentice tightly against his chest, “Just saying, ‘oh hey I’m not living at home anymore because I found work’ is not the best way to let me know how you are doing.” The man sighed as he let go so that he could glance around, “Are stables even considered proper housing? I know back in my day I did it, but surely our house is a little better than this.”

Tytus laughed and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, “I dunno. The straw here is some damn good quality. Could call it a bed of a king if you put enough blankets on top.” He grinned at the frustration on his father’s face, “But it isn’t that bad, truly. I like it. The creatures are good company and I guess the other people here can be as well.” Despite the teasing there was something that both men acknowledged in those words. Even unspoken both Arron and Tytus hated the emptiness of their home now that Gin was gone. It was why Arron was gone far longer than before which for Tytus was not fair. Arron realized it but had never wanted to drag his friend’s son through the rough desert life that he experienced as a soldier.

So even he could give in a bit. There was no point in dragging someone back to an empty house, right? “Of course you would, Ty.” Arron shook his head before glancing around once more, “But I guess it’s still better than what I have stayed in before.”

Exactly!” Tytus nudged his father teasingly, “Gotta follow in the footsteps right? I’ll start in a stable and then move on to tame some beast and become its rider. Become world famous though I think I like the idea of racing more than fighting with one. Not my style, you know? I’m not much of one for stabbing people or anything at all really for fun.”

Arron smiled, “I guess we wore off on you then.” The beast master sighed once more before finally giving in, “Well aren’t you going to show me around? I had to work my a** off to find you punk.” He paused once more before reaching out to brush some straw from the younger male’s hair, “Plus, do you ever wear proper clothing anymore? Do they pay you extra if you remain topless or something?”

Tytus laughed, “Maybe that is why they keep me around still despite my flaws.” He shook his head, “I suppose for modesty’s sake I could grab a vest at least. But it’s just so hot and when I’m racing with XuXu, the Xaraan there giving you that awfully distasteful look, I like to let my skin feel the wind.” Turning around the boy scurried up a ladder into the lofts and after a few sounds of struggle and some tossed straw he reemerged with a vest that was obviously wrinkled and not often worn at all, “There.”

Thanks.” Arron chuckled, “Remind me to send you some clothing from Belpol next time I’m stationed there. Surely you wouldn’t let a father’s gift go to waste.”

Tytus took a moment to sigh loudly before finally responding, “I suppose if I have to.”’

Arron reached out to punch him on the back, “Brat. Come on let’s go. I want to see this glorified estate you decided to move into.” He flung his long braid over his shoulder, “My time is short since I have to deliver a report soon. I’m just letting Hai rest before I leave again.”

You are going to run that poor Xaraan to death.” Quipped Tytus as he rubbed his back, “But sure. What do you want to see? There’s a collection of beasts that you may like. You know XuXu isn’t the only Xaraan here, but he hates to play nice so they kept him in this more secluded stables for the time being. If it was anywhere else you would see people and creatures running all over the place. You sure you don’t want to quit the army and retire? They could use a beast master here.”

Chuckling the older Oban shook his head, “Maybe one day when I’m old and gray, but I’m not that far gone just yet. Come on, youngling, and show me around.”

Tytus just grinned, “Sure, if that makes you feel better about the years then okay. This ‘youngling’ will show you around then while you’re back in Jatine.” Sincerely though he did lean over to latch an arm around his father’s shoulders, “If you’re coming back through after delivering things you should stay for a few days. Could use someone to race against that actually knows what they are doing. Plus, I haven’t heard any soldier stories in a while. You owe me that at least…dad.” It was a rare thing for Tytus to call Arron by such at title, but when he did he sincerely meant it. While Arron wasn’t Gen it didn’t make the man any less his father. And while others may have questioned the ‘friendship’ between the two Oban soldiers Tytus was simply glad to have had them both in his life.

Sure thing.” Arron laughed as they started to walk through the stables, “I just hope you’re ready to have your a** handed to you, kiddo.”

Hah, we’ll see about that.” Laughing he bumped his hip against Arron before beginning their tour.

Summary: Tytus is settling in at his new ‘job’ and enjoying life on the estate in Jatine. Then his father, Arron, arrives for a visit and their bantering begins.

❂ Apprentice Solo 2 ❂
What's the ruckus?

You know Yu, I hear that too much luxuries is bad for you.” Teased Tytus as he walked alongside his noble friend, “You should try hanging out with me in the stables more. We can set up another bed or hell if you would like I don’t mind sharing my current sleeping space. Cuddling is also a good stress reliever and would definitely help keep your face from having all those constant frown wrinkles.” Pausing in mid-step the boy peered at his companion before rubbing his chin thoughtfully with his thumb, “Yes, I can definitely see the need. How is it that someone my age already looks like he could be my grandfather?”

Rolling his eyes the richly dressed Oban simply reached out a firm hand to push his friend along, “I think I’m good, Tytus.”

Define good because I’m still trying to figure out how you even breathe in that thing.” Tytus smirked as he surveyed Yu. The boy was dressed in fine silks that ranged in various shades of purple and had one of those thick golden sashes wrapped around his waist with embroidered shapes. Even if he had his long hair pulled back into a high ponytail and his pants currently tucked into high leather boots it didn’t deter from the fact that his top was reminiscent of a woman’s multilayered dress. A fact which Tytus would constantly harass Yu about as he was doing now, “Seriously though can’t you try to wear just something simple for once? You wonder why I willingly tag along so much, but it’s obvious that you would be prime pickings for any pick pockets that come this way. Gods only know what would happen if I didn’t come with you to these places.”

I think I’ve done this long before meeting you, Tytus.”

Yes, because our meeting of me having to save you from a rampaging Xaraan only makes your case that much sweeter.” Quipped back Tytus before dodging a fist sent in his direction, “See? Maybe that would have connected if you weren’t slowed down by so much material, tsk.”

Yu sighed, “Tytus not everyone is as comfortable running around half naked as you. Plus, aren’t you here for the races yourself? Last time I checked you were the one who asked to come this time.” The boy raised a fine brow as he glanced over at his friend accusingly, “At least my attire makes me seem a little…classier? When was the last time you even washed that tunic?” Yu tilted his head before reaching up to pinch the bridge of his nose in frustration, “And please tell me that you’ve washed that at least once this week. We’re not even near the tracks yet so I can’t blame the smell of Xaraan on our surroundings. It’s you, isn’t it?”

Alright, alright.” Tytus held out his hands in defeat though his gaze still glittered with amusement, “Why are we even bickering about clothing styles? It’s so immature for two men of our standing. We both know to agree to disagree. I’ll keep my gorgeous self uncovered so that others can enjoy while you disappear into those robes away from the world. And you’re right – the tracks are still a bit away so let’s get a move on. Don’t wanna miss those races after all.” Grinning like the fool he was the boy reached out to tightly grab at the hand of his companion before pulling him along the street after him.

An obvious dodge to Yu’s question, but once more the noble let his friend get away with it. Not that he truly cared about whether or not a stable hand was clean. Even if he did then what was the point? He had already tried to get Tytus to move into one of the estates or at least some form of room. And like anything else it was an argument that Yu couldn’t seem to win. That much was obvious from the fact that despite having a room held for Tytus the other apprentice still opted to sleep in the loft above the stables.

Slowing down Tytus grinned as he noticed Yu staring at him, “You’ll trip if you aren’t careful.” Seeing the noble’s face flush slightly Tytus couldn’t help his smile. Another reason he had opted to stay away from the estate and picked the stables was because of the boy’s mother. The woman was obsessed with finding her son the perfect match and had gotten wary of his male companion. Not like Yu is actually into guys, right? So what was wrong with having a few close friends? Crazy woman. Next thing you know she would be wary of the Xaraan that Yu rode. Who knew? Just touching something after all apparently made her think that her son was going to run away with it. Though in the case of an arranged marriage Tytus could easily imagine that he personally would probably rather wed a xaraan than half of the noble women he had noticed coming in and out of the estates.

Not that they are bad looking, but it’s hard to really say since they have their noses so high up in the air most of the time. The thought made him chuckle before he realized that Yu was watching him with a frown, “Oh, uh! The crowds…just noticing how busy it is today that’s all.” Tytus rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly before turning around to confirm that his wild statement had some truth in it. Ah, so at least he wasn’t lying. That saved him from having to reveal that he was actually thinking about his friend’s sexuality and how his mother thought Tytus was going to seduce him in the future and steal away the family fortune. Hah! If only life was that easy. Shaking his head Tytus forced himself to focus again on what was going on around him.

There had to be something going on. Normally the place had a crowd but today there seemed to be an overabundance of people visiting. Tytus pursed his lips thoughtfully as he glanced over at Yu, “Should we check it out?” He barely managed to finish the question before a large cheer erupted from the crowd. Any question of if they should investigate or not was quickly tossed aside as Tytus began to wiggle through the mass of people. Screw worrying about things, he wanted to see what the fuss was about!

He was greeted with the image of a few rough looking guys. Rough as in the way that their clothing was covered in dirt and sand while being torn from several falls. All their hair was a mess and one guy, a rather pissed looking Matori, had a huge swollen eye that was now a lovely shade of violet. It was actually pretty amusing to see how irked all three of them were. At the thought another guy went flying through the air and Tytus had to raise a hand to hide his laughter.

Tytus.” Yu nudged him in the ribs with an elbow, “What are we doing here?”

Obviously seeing what the commotion is about.” Tytus grinned at his friend, “I guess they’re trying to ride a wild one. Not that you would know anything about that.” As he got nudged sharply for the reminder of their first meeting Tytus had to chuckle, “Sorry, sorry.”

Hey, what are you laughing at?” One of the guys was staring Tytus down, “Think you can do any better pretty boy?” He spat in the sands by Tytus, “All these other guys thought ta laugh too and guess what? They lost those smirks pretty soon ‘nough.”

Tytus tilted his head at the guy, “Excuse me, but are you talking to me?” He smiled as the guy pointed a finger towards him, “]b]While I appreciate being called pretty I really don’t know if I should…”

Why not, Tytus? Obviously they’re putting on a show to try and get attention. Might as well take some for yourself.” Yu pushed him so that Tytus nearly tumbled into the larger Oban, “Good luck.”

Pressing his lips into a fine line Tytus shot his friend a look before offering the guy a sheepish grin, “Look, I really don’t want to make anyone look bad so why don’t we just call it a day? That Xaraan is pretty tired and I’m not feeling like learning how to fly right now.”

What you think you can’t do it? Knew it.”

Nah.”

Get on the damn Xaraan kid.”

Blinking, Tytus held up his hands. “Alright, alright.” Glancing over his shoulder Tytus huffed at Yu, “I get paid double for today then.” Making him work on his day off. Who wanted to tame a Xaraan when he was supposed to be watching people race with them? Clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth Tytus raised his hands and slowly approached the pissed off creature.

Did he really have to worry about a Xaraan? Hadn’t he helped Yu with XuaXua after all? So how hard could it be? Tytus almost rolled his eyes as he approached the beast.

Yeah, this was going to be easy-peasy.

And then….WHACK!

Conclusion: Tytus ends up with a nice bump on his head.

❂ Apprentice Solo 3 ❂
Picking up a Lance

Tytus enjoyed the thrill of the ride. It was why he was often either helping to exercise the xaraan and janarim in the stables or out on the racing tracks that Yu had introduced him to. Just watching the racers as they created a sandstorm on the track was a thrilling experience. To actually be one of the riders, however, was the Oban’s dream goal. What would it be like to race? Certainly he did paces with the Xaraans back home and even took XuXu out for morning runs, but to actually compete? Not that would add to the challenge!

Though the last time he had tried to accept a challenge on these particular tracks had ended up with a rather lovely bump to the head. Tytus pursed his lips into a pout at the thought, “That was my mistake in underestimating the Xaraan.” Not like it mattered. The poor thing had been trained to fight off riders to help bring some more thrill to the tracks. An enticement to make more money and to cause more young men to make fools of themselves. Something that apparently Tytus was an expert at. Still, as long as the creature was actually well taken care of who was he to complain? It wasn’t being harmed, it probably was having just as much fun fighting off those stupid enough to try.

XuXu had been the same way. Fiesty and wild with no care for any earthling. Tytus had heard the stories about how the Xaraan was prized at the stables for its beauty yet also despised for its inability to work with anyone. Well that was inability to work with anyone until Tytus came along, “I suppose I must have some talent then for these things.” He teased quietly as he rubbed the Xaraan’s neck. Even if he had the talent would that mean he should stay a stable boy forever? Tytus frowned at the thought. As much as he loved a life of leisure there was something missing.

Not that Yu would mind, but I’m sure he would question my life decisions. Tytus tapped his fingers against his bottom lip thoughtfully, “I suppose we can ride and then think on it, right?” He grinned at XuXu before making certain that the saddle and everything was properly situated upon the familiar. After he had finished that Tytus approached with his hands out in a gesture of friendship before finally climbing on the back of the beast.

Thankfully no one was currently on one of the back tracks so it gave Tytus plenty of room to actually practice with XuXu. He wasn’t about to enter someone else’s Xaraan into the races, he would have to wait on Yu’s permission first, but at least it was nice to pretend. When he was out here he could just forget about all the worries and just enjoy the feeling of the air as it whipped around his hair and brushed against his face. As they sped up Tytus found himself laughing. This was great! If only he could do this all the time! Eventually the boy slowed down and pulled back on the reigns, “Good job, buddy.

But as he glanced around Tytus had to pause. Perhaps he shouldn’t have stopped at this particular area. I suppose we caught a bit too much attention by tearing up the track. The apprentice patted XuXu’s neck once more before attempting to lead the Xaraan around the trio of men.

Hey kid. Rather fancy Xaraan you have there. Who bred it?” One of the Obans, a tall broad-shouldered fellow, hovered in front of Tytus before he could really move. At the same time the other two came rather close on either side of the boy and his mount. It was pretty bad if someone like Tytus who enjoyed physical affections felt as if they were too close for comfort. Ugh, and then you had that one whose breath was also a bit lethal. Tytus had to fight the urge to hold his nose as he glanced between the three of them. Ah, there it was. The one rich guy to the left while the others must have been his lackeys.

He’s not bred, but tamed.” Replied Tytus, “And I’m getting him back home now for a good rest if you boys wouldn’t mind?” The apprentice attempted to push on through before finding himself bouncing back on his heels, “Alright, really? A wall of arms? I know I’m nice to look at, but I’m not here to get hit on today.” He quipped lightly.

Well good. We aren’t here to hit on you. Just hand over the reigns. What do you want a few coins? We can offer that for you.” The slender one with the silks and the gold rings pulled out a pouch and tossed it up in the air for show, “What do you say? I’m sure that’ll pay more than being a stableboy. Can even get your services to our place if you want.”

Tytus had to tilt his head backwards and close his gaze against rising frustration, “Sincerely guys. While I appreciate the offer, I don’t think so. I have a nice home already and I would prefer to go there in one piece with the xaraan.” He made certain to add that as their gazes were intent upon the reign that his fingers were tightly clasping. The last thing he wanted was for XuXu to go berserk because strangers were touching him. Or worse case, lose XuXu to these guys. Can I opt for none of the above? He quipped silently before taking a slow step backwards with XuXu following.

See the problem is we aren’t really offering. It’s a you do this situation.” The third man finally spoke and his voice made Tytus wish he had lost hearing a long time ago it was so gravelly, “He was bein’ nice offerin’ ya coin. I can offer ya other payments, but they aren’t as enjoyable. More like bruises and some broken bones if you don’t hand over the beast, kid.”

At least one positive thing about Tytus, other than his dashing good looks...err vanity, was that he could think on his feet. And in this situation the boy knew that he was cornered. The only thing near him was a weapons rack, the track, a rather slow tumbleweed, and the dirt at his feet. Though an old weapons rack looked tempting Tytus threw up his hands instead, “You’re right I can’t really argue with you in this case. I guess you can say you’ve got a good selling point when you handle things like this.” He acted as if he were about to hand the reigns over to the middle guy before suddenly kicking his foot out. At the impact a loud curse left the man as Tytus pulled XuXu after him and ran for the weapons rack. Immediately his hands reached out and grabbed at the first weapon, a long lance.

It wasn’t like Tytus was much of a fighter, but what he did enjoy was the idea of knocking over the weapons - mostly lances and spears - and watching how the men stumbled over them. Grinning the boy jumped on his Xaraan’s back and the two of them began to race away from the men who were still stumbling about. Remind me not to come here for a while. Closing his eyes Tytus hugged onto XuXu’s neck, “Race like the wind buddy.”

Funny though how adrenaline made him not realize some things such as the fact that he was still holding onto that lance. Tilting his head Tytus studied the weapon before shrugging, “I suppose I’m a natural with this too.” Well at least a natural in using it to knock over other weapons. But it was true. If he wanted to become a rider then he would need a weapon to protect his mount. Never again would Tytus let some sleazy guys try to come up and take his friend away from him. Like father like son. He held out the lance and studied it for a long moment.

He would definitely take it up and perhaps even ask Yu about finding an instructor, but that didn’t mean he was completely like his father. Tytus still didn’t enjoy fighting nor did he find the idea of spilling blood exhilarating. Nothing was as exciting to him as racing after all. If there was anything else for him then he was curious to try and find it. But for now the boy knew it keep it at one step at a time. First was to get home, feed and brush XuXu, and then maybe go about seeing how the whole lance wielding thing worked. And that was a plan enough for Tytus.

Whistling the apprentice chuckled, “Come on, XuXu. Let’s ride.”

[1514 WC]

Result: Tytus flees with XuXu and decides to learn how to fight with a lance.

❂ Growth Solo to Stage 2 ❂

Temptations and Growth

Another lovely day out in Jatine. Sighing, Tytus leaned back against a giant pile of straw so that he could study the clouds. On a slow nice day like this the boy enjoyed playing a game of matching clouds to shapes. Sometimes what he found was a bit too inappropriate to share with co-workers, but most of the time he normally referenced animals. At the moment he was leaning over while pointing out a cloud to one of the maids from the main house, Myae. “See? That one looks like a janarim, right? Can you see the claws?”

The girl pursed her lips thoughtfully before slowly nodding, “I suppose I can see that.” She shifted so that she was closer to Tytus, “What else do you see, Tytus?” As she spoke Myae moved even more so that her hip was pressed tightly against the male’s own body, “Anything other than the clouds that may be….closer?” The Oban’s crimson gaze gleamed as she raised a long leg and laid it on top of his. Of course the skirts she was wearing had slits and fell back to reveal smooth mocha skin that was dangerously tempting to the boy.

Perhaps.” As he he twisted his torso towards Myae the boy had to grin as the girl immediately bit her bottom lip in anticipation, “I hear kisses under an open sky are some of the best…” His voice trailed off as a shoe flew through the air and towards them. Blinking in surprise Tytus quickly pulled away from Myae and stood so that he could get a better view of who their assailant was. Since it was a rather ornate woman’s shoe he had the feeling….

Yep. Tytus suppressed a sigh as he instead waved towards the quickly approach figure, “Unila.” The faintest of flushes decorated his cheeks as he brushed off straw from his pants.

Tytuuuuus.” Unila’s voice was almost a growl before she turned onto the other female servant, “Myae! What were you two doing out here, hm?” Her gaze flickered accusingly between the two of them.

Just viewing the clouds, Unila.” Tytus shrugged innocently, “We were having a break from work and discussing the sky. We did it just last week remember?”

Oh we did something alright.” The girl’s gaze was heated, “Just as Yino and Tyin told me that you ‘studied’ the sky with them last week as well.”

Tytus!” This time it was Myae who stepped forward so that she could also glower towards the oban boy, “I knew about Tyin, but also Yino and Unila?” Her fingers clutched into shaking fists at her side, “I understand Tyin since I would do that too, but the others? When you had me here this whole time to spend time with instead?!”

Tytus raised his hands defensively but before he could counter any of it Unila had twisted so that she would pointing accusingly at Myae, “What? Something wrong with us? What makes you so much better than me, hmm?! You with your stringy hair and let me not even begin about the way you snore at night! Also you’re so clingy and open spread that you would probably sleep with a Xaraan if it was handsome enough! So I should be asking him why you when I’ve been right here this whole time!”

Ex-excuse me?! How dare you!” Myrae’s cheeks flushed a vivid crimson as she raised a finger to jab it back towards Unila, “I’m even surprised you would even suggest that you’re better than me with that flat chest and gods only know how much dust is under your prissy skirt! Do you even show your ankles you high strung….”

A slew of curses continued and eventually the girls both turned to yell at Tytus, “Who would you chose?!” But both found themselves blinking in shock as there was no longer a man standing there as he had bailed out several minutes ago when they were too busy yelling at each other, “Tytuuuuuuuuuuuuuus!”

Needless to say Tytus was eager to take an assignment from Yu that took him away from the estate for a couple of weeks, “Thank you On’os for the fortunate timing.” He chuckled before glancing towards the crimson Xaraan that seemed to stare at him, “What? I’m young and...they’re all so attractive. How can I resist?” The boy pursed his lips, “Not like I’ve done much more than kissing….mostly. Shush, XuXu. You’d probably go bonkers yourself if you had a whole herd of attractive Xaraan flirting with you!”

But he couldn’t run away forever. As Tytus returned from Sauti he found himself running a few excuses and cases through his mind. Surely they would let him by for now? Did he really have to pick someone, “Oh I have it!” The man snapped his fingers, “I met with a hermit who taught me about higher aspects of life so I’m not about those things anymore. Feelings and affection are something to be taken slowly, but first I must discover myself before finding another.” He laughed as he leaned forward on his mount, “Sounds good enough to me!” Maybe they would stop harassing him about settling on one of them if he spun that story well enough.

Despite figuring out that obstacle what the Oban didn’t know was that a worse challenge laid ahead. As he cleaned up his gear Tytus was surprised that Yu hadn’t come to visit him. Frowning, the apprentice shrugged off his worries before finally finishing up his chores and heading back out. Now that he was cleaned up and clothed, well mostly if you counted a short open vest and loose slacks, Tytus was prepared to enter the manor. It was in the main house that he expected to find Yu, but what he wasn’t expecting was someone else in his friend’s office.

Yu….” Tytus trailed off as he found himself blinking at a rather lovely, curvy Oban woman with mesmerizing eyes and….other catching features, “Is...is this a bad time?” For once he found himself actually shy as he glanced about the room trying to avoid contact with the beautiful girl before him.

Actually not, Tytus.” Yu smiled as he waved his friend over, “I’m glad you came back today. I’m sorry I couldn’t have met you in the stables like normal, but my fiancee came today. Well, arranged...you know how my family is.” The Oban noble rubbed the back of his neck before shaking his head, “Anyways this is Vilryia. Vil, Tytus is my good friend that I’ve told you about before.”

Ah, yes. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She reached out a slow hand and shook his, “Yu tells me so much about you whenever he visits me in the capitol. It’s so nice to finally see you in person...you’re a lot like he described if not a bit more.” She smiled playfully before waving, “If you’ll excuse me now I have had a long journey and need to retire for the night.” Nodding her head she kissed Yu’s cheek before turning from the room.

Flushed completely Tytus glanced over towards his friend, “Yu...you never told me you were engaged.”

It’s a new thing.” The noble chuckled, “About six months ago? I meant to tell you, but never got around to it. Isn’t she amazing? She’s sweet, beautiful, talented with music, and has a delightful way about her in general...normally I don’t approve of my father’s decisions but I’m thankful. I feel like we get along very well and so this is her first time at the manor.” He sighed though before reaching out to clasp Tytus’s shoulder, “So that’s why I need your help friend.”

Oh no, Yu.”

Yes, unfortunately father’s business is keeping him delayed so I have to attend some trade meetings in his stead the next few days. Could...could you show Vilryia around? I trust you the most and she’s quite the handful. I’m sure though having you at her side will keep her entertained.”

Tytus bowed his head. He was terrified that his friend was going to say that. But what could he do? Yu was leaving him with a great task and he...well had to just behave, “Of course, Yu. I’ll gladly show her around in the morning.” He just placed his biggest smile and left his friend with a wave. Everything was just fine, he was totally excited about this…

Gods why meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.” His wail echoed throughout the deserted stables as Tytus dove into his rafter bed. She was such a good looker, but she was Yu’s fiancee! And she was a noble, a noble! Not like she would want anything to do with a commoner right? Totally….yes. Tytus nodded to himself, “I’m not Yu and she’ll totally not want anything like that. She’s just a nice girl after all.” A nice girl with a hot body. Tytus groaned as he twisted in his bedding for the rest of the night.

The next morning the boy appeared calm and surprisingly well dressed as he approached the manor. Yu was already gone and it was mostly empty at the estate due to various events and meetings happening in the outside cities. One of the perks of Jatine was despite being in Oba its location was more of a vacation spot for many noble families so when a family did settle here it meant a lot of traveling around the countryside. When the season called for it the staff was lessened and many went home to visit families on small vacations at this time since they were not essential to running the estate.

Such facts made it even easier to fall into temptation.

Tytus had to swallow nervously as he noticed the figure approaching him. Was it just him or was she looking him up and down? Deep breathes Tytus. She’s probably judging you for some dirt on your clothing or something. As Vilryia approached the boy raised a hand in greeting, “Good morning! So are you ready for your tour of the manor? I heard it was your first time from Yu so I’m prepared to show you all the places.”

Oh? Then I’m eager to see your tour, Tytus.” She smiled before glancing at him expectantly.

Tytus tilted his head in confusion before nodding, “Ah.” Holding out his arm for her to grab the boy had to calm his racing heart as she gave him another of those dazzling smiles and moved rather close to him. She was so close that he could smell the floral perfume that she was wearing….

Forcing such thoughts away Tytus began his tour of the estate. What started as nerves slowly faded away as the apprentice started having fun with his tour. He took her around the stables and even had a laugh with her as a Xaraan startled her. They saw some of the young janarim still in training to become future mounts for the army and they even went to the pond on the estate and watched as fish swam towards the crumbs that Vilryia threw at them. If anything Yu was correct in detailing the woman as dazzling and interesting. She was good at conversation and fairly witty, something that Tytus definitely appreciated.

So tomorrow I have to ask you to take me riding.” The girl smiled towards him, “Yu had promised since his family is renowned for their beasts, but now that he’s gone….is it possible?”

Tytus nodded, “Definitely! That’s my expertise on the estates so I’m glad to show you how to ride.”

So went another day of them having fun together. But for Tytus happiness could not be simple, at least not in this case. As they finished up a picnic at the pond one evening he was startled to hear a gasp from Vilryia, “Oh!” Her cheeks were flushed as she stared down at her skirts which were covered in wine, “Tytus...is it alright if we head back now? I need to change my clothing it seems.”

Nodding Tytus quickly gathered up their things and helped her onto a Xaraan and back towards the manor. As he went towards the kitchens a hand strayed to his tunic, “Tytus...could you help me? My maid is out for the day…”

Innocently the man tilted his head, “Sure?” What could she need help with? Carrying these things to her room? Gathering up the basket of flowers that she had gathered on their walk Tytus followed her into the guest room that she was using. Ah, it sure was a fancy room. A faint smile flickered across his features at the thought since Yu had been trying to get him into one of these rooms for weeks now. Obviously he much preferred the stables to such a luxurious setting. It was far too huge in here after all!

His thoughts kept him distracted long enough to not realize that silks were hitting the ground. Blinking, Tytus glanced over to stare in shock at Vilryia who was wearing just some undergarments, “I….am so sorry. I didn’t mean to see….oh my.” He glanced away before taking a few steps back towards the door.

Oh, no. I needed your help, remember?” A firm hand reached out to tug Tytus back towards her and towards the bed that loomed behind, “Just a few laces need to be undone and I can’t reach them so please?” At this point she had pulled him forward so that they were at the edge of the bed and so that her body was a breath away from his own, “No one else is here so I thought that perhaps….you could help me with this and a few other things, Tytus.”

Vil….”

Is there a problem, Tytus?” She twisted so that she could gaze at him tauntingly, “Am I not attractive to you?”

You...you are.” She was too attractive and it was bad enough to make him feel very uncomfortable. Something which was obvious to the girl as she pressed into him, “Vil...please.”

The girl’s arms were reaching up so that she could pull his head down so that her lips could brush against his, “Is this so bad?” She asked teasingly as he pulled away quickly, “It’s cute how flustered you are right now. You know ever since you walked into the room I’ve been fascinated. Yu always talked about you, but to see you in person? I understand why his mother feared he liked men now.” Raising a hand to his violated lips Tytus simply stood in shock as she continued talking to him, “That’s why our engagement was arranged so that she could feel better about keeping someone like you around. I thought I would have to arrange to keep you around to please Yu in case I wasn’t enough, but maybe I should see if Yu wants to share.” She took a few steps forward towards him and ever so slowly trailed a finger down his arm, “How ironic that I came to steal Yu from you, but now I want to steal you instead.”

Yu...yu….this wasn’t fair to Yu. The back of his mind screamed at him and just thinking of his friend finally caused Tytus to back away, “Stop now.” His gaze narrowed as he studied the temptress, “You are gorgeous no offense, but I’m not like this. You belong to Yu and I am his friend so I’m not going to touch you. Flirtatious or not I do have some honor.”

Tytus...I can take care of you. When I marry Yu we can all be together and you’ll be close to me so when Yu is gone on business we’ll have plenty of alone time-”

I would leave then.” Tytus glanced up towards the girl firmly, “Even if I have to leave my friendship with Yu I would rather do that than help his fiancee cheat on him. Nor do I wish to be ‘shared’ between anyone. Commoner or noble a person is a person and I will be respected as such.” He tightened his tunic back around his waist and pushed one last time as the girl attempted to grab him, “I’m going to go visit my father starting now and I’ll let staff know to take care of you until Yu returns. When he’s back he can help you with ‘things’ since that is his duty to you and you to him.” That stated Tytus slammed the door behind him and took a few bold steps before bolting down the hallway.

Gods Yu, I hope you understand how much I value you. He had just turned down one of the most unimaginable temptations because of his dedication to his friendship with the other man. Anyone else...anyone else and maybe it would have been different.

Perhaps his earlier excuse about finding the hermit and going celibate was going to become his life now. Maybe it was time to find himself and to keep his hands to himself for a while. It was time for him to mature and to think about these things. Playing around would only hurt others, especially if those that he spent time with had actual lovers. How had he never thought of that? A flush crossed his cheeks from the shame. He had been so much about living in the moment that he hadn’t thought about the future or of others. This whole time he had thought of only himself until Yu….his dear friend.

I’ll go on a trip and visit Arron so that I can learn more about riding and how to fight with a lance. He could burn out his extra energy that way instead. Yes, that sounded like the best plan. He would send notice to Yu, give that woman another chance and not reveal the truth, and leave for a while (at least until she was gone and he could trust himself not to let her talk him into such treachery). He just hoped that his friend would forgive him for leaving so suddenly and without reason.

[WC 3185]

[Conclusion: Tytus has always had a wild personality and never thought much of anything than his own pleasure. He’s been whimsical, playful, and super flirty with others as noticed with his encounter with others working on the estates. However, when faced with the biggest temptation yet the boy finally places someone else first. Thinking of Yu he stops himself from making a grave mistake and from the trauma of the experience has decided to shape up and mature into a man who won’t play around with feelings anymore and will simply wait for the right one to come into his life. This way he won’t ruin anyone’s relationship or be seen as someone easy to play around with. And from now on he will focus more on training and being a more reliable man. ]

A Letter

Tytus stared at the blank parchment that rested on the desk before him. Next to it a small orb with a candle inside flickered casting one of the few rays of light in the room across his desk, “How do I even do this?” It wasn’t that he didn’t know how to write in script or anything, unlike most stable hands he had come from a different background that had allotted him with a decent education during his younger years, it was simply that he didn’t know what to write. He had on occasion traded letters with Arron over the years but this time he had so much to tell him and he was wary of even where to begin.

So once more came the scribbling messages that he continuously crossed out and started over with a new quill and ink, Arron, I hope you are doing well. I’m living it up here at the stables still - I know you must be delighted by that - but there is change coming. I’ve met someone who is charming and very sweet, I hope you get to meet her soon. And no this isn’t a fling, or anything like that, at least I would prefer if it wasn’t as long as she is willing. I can even feel jealousy when someone else is watching her. I even was foolish enough to promise a new chapter of her life for her here in Oba, can you believe that? These crazy feelings of mine...It’s changing me Arron and maybe I’ll be even more changed like you and my father were once you had a family started….ah, I’m rambling a bit but anyways I pray you are faring well and I’ll update you more once I make some important decisions. Perhaps I won’t be that stable boy forever after all. I suppose even I couldn’t continue running away from my father’s blood for eternity - the gods simply wouldn’t have that now would they?

I suppose only the future will reveal where I go, Arron. I just pray it’s somewhere wonderous and that I can finally prove myself as my father’s son and as your son as well.

With love,

Tytus

Tytus wrinkled his nose as he read over his writing, “Let’s try that again since I’m not certain if I wrote everything I wanted to get across well…” He sighed before crumpling up the parchment and grabbing a fresh piece. Surely by the end of the night he would have a decent letter to send to Arron...surely.

[426 WC]

Conclusion: Tytus may eventually perfect a letter he deems acceptable to send to his father, Arron.

❂ Lancer Solo 2 ❂
A Farewell Gift

“You were always such an upbeat lad.” The words were spoken by a gruffer Oban with a scraggly beard tangled from constant twisting by the square, calloused fingers of a hard worker. While he loomed over Tytus like a giant mountain the man’s crimson gaze was rather warm, a stark contrast to the inky darkness of his curls. If anything Tytus would think of the man as one of those giant stuffed animals you got for a daughter during the holidays. Others may have seen him as intimidating due to how he hovered over any trouble makers at the tracks with a great axe in hand, but Tytus was the one who saw the man when he was coddling a young Xaraan crying over how cute it was. He also had trained in Xaraan care underneath the retired beastmaster and had been the one to gain his interest with his persistence with Xaraan racing.

It was such experiences that made Tytus feel at ease with the older man. In fact, if he hadn’t had two fathers already the Oban would be tempted to call him another father. Instead Tytus settled for deeming the man, Uncle Nikin, a nickname that had admittedly gotten him smacked on the back of the skull a few times before, “What are you doing? Writing an eulogy for me or something?” Tytus taunted lightly as he brushed a damp cloth across the soft leather of a Xaraan’s saddle, “You’re senile old man if you’re acting like one race is going to kill me.”

“Not my fault.” Huffed Nikin as he handed Tytus reins, “You haven’t been here for days upon days.” His gaze studied the younger Oban, a thoughtful crease showing across his brow as his lips tilted slightly downwards in concern, “Yer sick or somethin’?”

“Me sick?” Tytus grinned as he walked through the stables and checked out each of the stalls, “I’ve just been preoccupied.”

“With what?”

“Oh, just some things.”

“Must be somethin’ big for ya to be gone so long.”

“I suppose it is.” Tytus paused his steps before glancing back over towards the other man, “I may have to quit racing and actually settle down, Nikin.”

“Oh thats- what?!” The Oban marched forward so that he could stand over Tytus, “Why would you quit now? You were making some good coin last time I checked!” His gaze narrowed in disdain as he stared down Tytus, “Comin’ in here all those months ago talking big and s**t like that to quit now? What’d you do git bored or somethin’ and think that ya can just drop it?” He crossed his arms, veins rippling across his thick forearms in an attempt to help uphold his tense and intimidating posture, “Shoulda known when ya came in with a noble boy that you’d just think of this as fun and games.” He snorted, his spices and smoke enhanced breath making Tytus flinch, “I have a mind to just drag you out of here by those fancy braids of yers.”

“Woah, woah.” Tytus held up his hands in defense, “It’s not exactly like that Nikin.” Boldly he pushed a hand against the man’s broad chest and shook his head, “GIve me some breathing room and I’ll try to explain.”

“Better be somethin’ good.”

“Yes, yes.” Tytus gave a sigh before glancing over his shoulder to make certain that the stables were empty. Even if they weren’t on the estate the man didn’t want any listening sneaks that could turn into traveling mouths, rumors were the last thing he needed. Just to make certain that it was only NIkin with him Tytus even took the moment to raise a fingers to his lips and then walked through the stables. All the stalls just had Xaraan and then both doors were nearly closed with only the slightest of openings to allow entrance.

“Are you carryin’ a government secret or something?” Nikin rose an eyebrow at the younger man’s actions as he simply waited for Tytus to walk about the stalls and check over everything.

“Sorta?” Tytus chuckled before crossing back towards Nikin, “It’s really not that I’m bored of racing, but more that I have things to prepare for now?” He lowered a hand to rest on his upper hip and threw his shoulders back proudly, “Can’t prepare myself for a family when I’m spending all my time on the tracks, right? I should be focusing on more mature things and finding a stable income rather than living in a stable...”

“I suppose so - what what?!”

“A family, Nikin. They happen.” Tytus chuckled as he clapped a hand against the other Oban’s back, “

“But for you...are you pullin’ my leg? By Onos if you are I swear I’ll be hanging you from the rafters of this place.” Nikin ran a hand down along his face, “How long has this been a thing? I didn’t even know you had a lady!”

“Well it’s new.” Tytus rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, “And I suppose I do now. She’s sweet and gentle and honestly the best thing to come into my life.” His cheeks warmed at confession, “Perhaps I’ll bring her here one day though I’m not entirely certain I want my racing history to be announced to her.” He had gotten into a few scuffles here and had earned a fair share of slaps across his face in his younger days. His flush deepened even more as he was surprisingly thwacked on the back by the older man.

“Why! I never woulda expected it!” Nikin chuckled, a deep noise that rumbled in his throat, “Congrats then, kiddo! Though I doubt I can keep callin’ ya kiddo.” He pulled his hand back after giving Tytus another few good whacks and began tugging at stray edges of his beard instead, “Jeez I wonder what Arron would say.”

“Arron?” Tytus found his gaze widening in surprise, “You know my father?”

“Of course! How else do you think ya get into here so easily? I don’t just have a soft spot for some fancy lads.” The Oban chuckled, “I recognized ya though at first it took a bit considerin’ you were just a babe when I first saw yer mug. Gen and Arron worked closely with me at one point ‘fore I retired to these here tracks.” The elder shrugged, “As it is I figured I should keep an eye out for ya for them.”

“...Damn.” Tytus shook his head, “I did not see that confession coming.”

“Of course not. I figured there was no reason to tell ya. Though I got in touch with Arron recently to get somethin’ settled.” Nikin grunted as he moved away from Tytus and lifted the heavy bars that locked one of the stalls, “We had meant to surprise you together, but I’m supposing this is a good time as any.” He gestured forward, “Go ahead and look inside ‘ere.”

Warily Tytus moved forward. Was the older man going to lock him up in here until he found out the truth? To make certain that Tytus was going to be a respectable person from now on? Or was he going to hog-tie him until his father came back to town? Oh gods that’ll be a few months from now. Arron had gone out to train more wild beasts and had even crossed over towards Zena last that Tytus had heard. Swallowing against his apprehension the young man slowly scooted forward.

His gaze widened in surprise at what stood before him. A well groomed, beautifully muscular, and golden Xaraan with sharp intellect in its piercing gaze, “Ah, is this….something for me to groom? A punishment for being so troublesome?” He finally found himself asking after a long moment of silence as he stared back at the beast which tilted its head in curiousity towards him. Slowly, ever so slowly, Tytus moved forward with a stretched out hand so that he could hold an open palm out towards the sharp beak in greeting. It was a beautiful creature, that much he would admit to, and Tytus thought that the confidence it radiated was catching.

“If ya wanna consider it that since you’ll be havin’ ta groom it.” Taunted Nikin from behind him, “But this big ole boy is supposedly yours. Arron purchased it from one of those top-notch breeders and had it brought here for me to care for until you came around and we got the chance to gift it to ya. What do you think?”

“What?” Tytus twisted so that he could glance back towards the other man in surprise, “Arron bought me my own Xaraan?”

“Aye.”

“Wow.” He surely was dreaming, right? And it wasn’t like some random Xaraan since Tytus could tell that this was one of those top-notch ones bought for Nobles, ones trained for superior speed and strength. They had intellect as well, “Ouch, hey!” Apparently they also had some ego since this guy was very disgruntled with the fact that Tytus had turned his back on him to focus on something else, “Sorry, boy.” Tytus grinned as he reached out a hand to rub the feathered head, “I didn’t mean to ignore you.”

“So are ya goin’ ta do it?”

“Hmm…” Tytus paused as his fingers stroked against the Xaraan’s neck, “I suppose now that I have a wonderful mount I should try that final race.”

“More than that...are ya really going to go down that path? Yer father’s that is?”

A moment of hesitation caused his hand to stop and Tytus had to close his eyes briefly as he rested his hand against the Xaraan’s back, “I suppose I am.” He finally admitted, the words sounding heavy and final in the silence that had built around him, “I told myself I wouldn’t but I suppose that was just a lie in the end. I was only pushing off the inevitable.”

“It’s a commitment. They won’ be kind ta someone who just slips into his father’s position. You’ll have ta work from the bottom up ta gain some respect.”

Tytus chuckled, “Of course.” He patted the head of the Xaraan once more before turning around so that he could reach his arms around the man’s shoulders, “But what would be the fun in simply slipping into place? I’m a determined spirit now so hard work is not a problem.” He winked playfully before moving again so that he could lead the Xaraan out of the stall, “Does he have a name?”

“Not that I know of.”

“Good then I’ll have to name him.” Tytus grinned as he reached forward once more to pat the Xaraan, “Come on, Golden One. Let’s see how you ride around the track.” A nice run could give him some fresh air and time to digest everything that had just occurred. It would also be nice to win one final race before he truly committed to the drastic twist that his life was taking. A final taste of freedom…

(WC: 1837)

Summary: Tytus goes to the race track to catch up with an old friend there. Instead of simply saying his farewell to racing the man finds himself gifted with a golden Xaraan and confessing his future plans to Nikin, a family friend and one of the Xaraan keepers at the tracks.
