We are going to do an event for Halloween! Yaaaaay! I'm happy to be the main MC again!
This is our preliminary planning thread! We will set up our official planning thread in the GCP around mid-August.
Before that time I would like to have an idea for our theme, and if you guys want to spitball any ideas for contests or anything in the time before our official planning begins, you can discuss those ideas in here!
ALSO! Barista Batista is like the perfect item for this event.
Orange You Scared? or Fun in a Pumpkin Orange will be the major color in the cafe. Everything will be orange! Black, purple, and green can be hinted also.
Medieval Malice Going totally medieval – Renaissance style. Swords, goblets full of our special drinks, knights and dragons.
Mad Masquerade Mardi Gras + Halloween = Fun with masks, jesters, and harlequin outfits.
The Grim Adventures in Heartbreak Cafe emotion_awesome I kid, I kid. OR DO IT.
I've been watching a lot of Billy and Mandy lately. rofl

If we're going with the Orange/Pumpkin theme -- we could have pumpkin decorating contests to be placed around the cafe. Or coloring a pumpkin done by the customers if they don't feel like creating a face.
We would most definitely have costume contests with the avi builder (or just with your inventory because you don't need to own items to try them on).
Maybe have cupcakes and drinks up for sale that are Halloween themed -- selling for x amount and every customer will be entered into a raffle for something (item or art).

I love pumpkin decorating for certain, and a costume contest would be fabulous!
We haven't ever sold our cafe items before, and I doubt we will start because I feel it could impede the mini RP aspect of our event--but good thinking! Maybe someone could do a raffle via another method?
I like the Orange idea. We could take it back to Salem and have Witch Trials. x3

If I may toss and opinion in....
Rather than trying to make it color oriented ( since I suddenly had so many ideas for games/events with colors and styles in mind) How about do some sort of ''Halloween Around The World" Display the horror and occult things from different cultures? Stick with dark somber colors which are generally widely used ( unlike orange which is a western thing it seems) and use shades and highlights of whites.
Use Oni, Ghosts, Vampires, Demons, varying mythologies; perhaps even have a user that is hosting an event per occult creature?
I could try and expend on this if it seems interesting enough to try...
PS. As someone whom was simply active in the Valentines art event, wasn't sure if my opinion held much weight in preparation.

Definitely some great ideas!
Cafe items is just a front... the real focus is the raffle wink Other than for roleplaying purposes, buying cupcakes and drinks isn't really all that appealing because I can't really use it... >___>;; I wouldn't buy it if I was a customer.
However, if we make "buying cafe items" like you're purchasing from our shop, then for x amount that you're spending, you are getting x amount of tickets for the raffles. Say 6 mil per ticket, then we could make drinks like 3 mil and pastries 3 mil. When they purchase food, they are technically just entering the raffle. It's just a fun way of presenting a raffle -- they get to choose what drink they get... cupcake/cookie/other assorted pastries. And they would have to label the trade with their order!
We will place a "Surprise Me" option for those who are too lazy to look up what they want xD; Annnnnnnd, maybe one artist could draw all the pastry/drinks art for appealing sake <___< ... too much?

If anyone ends up wanting to host a contest like that and organize all the art and running it, I wouldn't be opposed.

I know were were mostly discussing the theme of the cafe this year so i'm not sure if the idea of events to take place in the cafe is off track at all. I know I was really wanting to try and be more involved this holiday around. I wanted very much to speak to whomever about hosting an art event... but Halloween is all about scary stories so I also had a writing event in mind. So I was thinking of.... a Game called Fortunately/Unfortunately.
One person begins with a sentence (e.g., One day Little Johnny walked to the local shoe shop). The next person tells of something unfortunate that happens (e.g., Unfortunately, Little Johnny was hit by a car.). The following person contributes a fortunate event (e.g., Fortunately, the car was made entirely of marshmallows). The fourth person will contribute an unfortunate event (e.g., Unfortunately, Johnny was allergic to marshmallows.) The fifth person will contribute a fortunate event (e.g., Fortunately, Johnny didn't eat any of the car.), and the process is repeated
This could involve any number of people ( i'd be accepting the first response to the post, then i'd post the newly grown story, then i'd accept the response to that one and so forth so forth... with no same person in succession) Of course I would want to keep it horror/occult oriented and I think i'd like to host it after dark to keep with the spirit of horror stories.
All the while ( since I can't stay away from drawing); anyone who gets involved could get their avi drawn as well to feel more inclined to play Too convoluted?
I would love to see pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. Skeletons and Bats. Spiders/Webs. And glow in the dark areas.
I could make up concepts of the actual cafe. So that those who are roleplaying have a visual of where to sit. (unless there already is a visual/concept art, this would be my first HBC halloween event) If anyone needs art help I'll be here! I work fast with the little things. Check my profile for examples (although they're kinda outdated)
