This is the Official Group Vurfang Thread for Meta One.

Beaches, lakes, and rivers have massively swollen, causing waters to rise and floods to drown the areas nearby. Your Vurfang must join with others of their kind, helping one-another to safety as portions of territories are lost.

You all know that after time, the waters will recede, but as of right now, the damage is great: Dens were destroyed, and numerous wolves have been cut off from their Packs and friends, some are even being thrown about by the rapids and undercurrents the rising waters have caused.

You may use NPC wolves [ Vurfang you create specifically for this Meta ] so that no one's OC has to die if you wish there to be a death in a Pack or of a friend or comrade.

Vurfang must come together here in order to seek higher ground, and there should be an air of panic in the beginning as water is crashing through and flooding over forests and plains and hills in the gentle south.

PostPosted: Wed May 11, 2016 7:01 pm

Prompts will be updated roughly from every seven to ten days, as the lands change and waters recede, showing the destruction they have caused.

UPDATE:: All Vurfang who are able have been asked to travel to Lunaris Forest, to hold a summit as well as reunite with their Packs if they were separated during the initial flooding. However, you do not have to go. It's your decision. As the entire landscape has changed, the journey will be rough, but the Vurfang were advised to group together and help one another. The Great Flood isn't the worst of what will happen, and they must make haste.

PROMPT ONE::

xxxxxxx You have been separated from your friends or your Pack, and are either trying to outrun the flood, being thrown about by the waters, or searching for stranded Vurfang.

xxxxxxx You may use the death of an NPC [ wolf created only for this Meta ] if you so choose. While there won't be a massive loss of life, surely some Varsythe won't make it: the unattended young, the old, or those who weren't warned in time.

xxxxxxx As the waters crash over the fields, flood beaches, and swell the rivers, where are you? Who are you with? What were you doing? Are you trapped, separated from friends or Pack? Are you desperately attempting to save a wolf Pup you've been looking after? Being thrown about by the merciless tides? Are you with anyone, trying to rescue or racing ahead of the raging waves to warn a friend? Perhaps you're watching on in shock from higher ground as territories and herds of game get swallowed by the rushing waters in the south?

xxxxxxx Engagement is highly encouraged: if someone posts that their Vurfang is trapped, you can rush in and try to save them, putting yourself at risk. Maybe you and a Packmate were hunting, only to be battered around by the currents and now must seek higher ground. Or is the Alpha you follow on the brink of death, and you're shouting for the help of a Shaman or Guardian, hoping beyond hope that they can save them? Be creative, and go with the flow of the RP!

xxxxxxx If you meet up with a Vurfang you take a liking to, and wish to continue a branch of the Meta RP separately, you may use the PRIVATE META RP THREAD to do so. While not required, it's encouraged that you have more than two members for these, as teamwork will be absolutely essential in the coming days.

xxxxxxx If you choose to begin a Private RP for the Meta, please either continue in the Group Meta OR make an In-Character post as to why your wolf is leaving. This way, people won't be waiting on your replies.

xxxxxxx Please make an attempt at using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation, as the first portion of the Meta is an extremely dire circumstance.

Duke coughed and fought the rapids, flailing his paws until he felt the air smacked out of his lungs by a hard landing against a large, river-drowned boulder. The thing was big enough that he only slipped sideways along it slowly, so he scrabbled up on top of it, shivering as he tried to shake the water from his coat. he looked to the sky for his companion, and the bluebird did not disappoint, appearing quickly with his little flower crown and flopping between the wolf's ears. Duke nodded up at the bird and looked around at the dark morning, spotting a hill rising not far from the boulder. "Fly a bit more, friend. We must climb." The bird chittered in annoyance and puffed out his feathers, then took off from the wolf's fur, as Duke bounded across to another boulder and nearly lost his footing.

He fell in once more and spluttered to freedom at a tree's virtue, as he pulled himself onto the hill's early land, coughing as he strained to relax. The bluebird trilled and tugged at the fur of his brow, while he felt the water creeping along his haunches, before he pulled himself up and sighed, watching a tree slide by in the water as he shook some of the cold water from his coat and shivered. "Come, Trill. Take yourself a perch. I will carry us for a little." Images of the friends he'd been playing with flashed across his mind, but the wolf pushed them away, content that he and Trill were fine for now. He must see if he can find others; there must be other survivors of this madness.

Horrendous crashing grated against his senses, trees uprooted and sent down white water that once was a calm river weakened and tore others in their wake. The world as Riptide had known it was in chaos, and for a moment, he didn't know what to do. Paddling hard, he tried to remember what had happened, and frankly it was unlike any sort of flash flood he'd ever experienced. He had been enjoying a quiet morning bath (swimming having been his favorite thing to do every morning before he started his rounds around the pack's territory) when all of a sudden the gentle current turned into a raging torrent hell bent on sweeping him and the rest of the world away. He managed to duck under the first tree that came his way, but slammed into another that'd been just below the waterline, knocking the breath out of him, and possibly cracking a few ribs. He remembered little else as he fought for his life and finally made it, scrabbling like mad against the mud and roots to some semblance of solid ground, panting hard, tounge lolling out to the side.

For a few minutes, it was all he could do to simply catch his breath. His side ached horribly, and blood tinged the water around him as it dripped off from gashes he didn't remember receiving. A lone voice, cut off in mid-howl, reminded Rip of his duties. He had to find the Pack, alpha and all. He was the Guardian, he had to bring them together, find protection...where were they?! Standing shakily, he shook himself, and began trotting down the direction he'd last seen the others, hoping with luck they were on the same side of the river. His wounds could wait till the others were safe.

Taking a brief respite on the only solid perch she could find, Kallan balanced precariously on the boughs of an ancient tree. I can only pray my fledgling pack heeded my warnings and advice... Pausing for a moment to allow herself to fret over the safety of her pack, she cast her eyes downward. All that greeted her gaze was the swollen banks of the river below. What on Zareth caused this..?

With a heavy sigh, she let herself "fall" from the tree, snapping her wings open and gliding along the course the river had carved itself. I can do nothing further for them... better to seek out those yet in dire need of rescue. Those further inland, away from the insatiable hunger of the rising waters, were as safe as they could be. It was those trapped near the river's raging flood that needed, no, demanded, her undivided attention. Good thing my wings are working again. She thought wryly.

"Know your place..."

Rothar

Rothar shook the water from his fur his cloak hung still dripping after the vigorous shaking. This crazy flood had come out of nowhere and took the lands of Zareth for a chaotic, destructive ride. Rothar had been caught up in a swelling river while he was drinking with Kiana. Thankfully he was a strong swimmer and had an indomitable spirit because even as he stood there now he had received several gashes and bruises from the violently swirling debris. His tongue lolled as he panted to catch his breath from the exhausting swim. He paid no mind to his wounds, they were primarily minor, luckily, but he was more concerned with Kiana. He had lost sight of her shortly after he had been swept away. She had wings and had possibly escaped the worst of it, but he would never forgive himself if the first wolf he had actually started to trust and even love were too come to harm while under his care. It would crush him emotionally and shatter his strong alpha pride. It wouldn't matter if it was beyond his control, when it came to things of this nature, there was no room for error or excuses.
His sharp green eyes flitted about primarily searching the churning brown, debris filled waters of the swollen river. Ready to leap headlong back into it if he had to. "Kiana!" He called out in a strong, forced calm tone.

"Or I will show it to you."

One minute, Kiana had stopped for some water with Rothar and the next, she was being swallowed whole by the river which had quenched their thirst. Even with all the warning in the world, the starry pelted Vurfang had not been able to react in time to the rapidly swelling river. With every bit of strength the alpha possessed, she kept her wits about her and swam back to the surface. When her head broke the surface of the water, she gasped for blessed air. Her thoughts were to the male who had stolen her heart, her golden eyes looking to the bank for his imposing form. She knew he had to have made his way out of the water, he was too strong to let some liquid get the best of him.

It took a few moments of her trying to stay afloat in the rough waters, but her eyes finally fell on a very familiar red and white form. A sigh of relief filled every fiber of her being, as she began swimming in his direction. She was just about to make it to shore, when a fallen tree branch dug into her side, causing a howl of pain to issue from her muzzle. However, she knew Rothar was waiting for her, so she powered through the pain, until she finally collapsed on the shore next to him.

"Next time I suggest a swim, remind me of this,"she told him with a gentle smile. She was in a lot of pain with that branch digging into her side, but she was trying to not let on. No, he didn't need to worry about her, but she knew deep down inside her tactic would not work. However, that did not stop her from taking a deep breath and trying to shakily stand up. This caused a grimace as she realized how much her side hurt.

Jester had ran as fast as he could when his alpha had given the warning. Though nothing could have prepared him for what had come ahead. Water abounding and crashing tree's down. He is so close to getting to high ground when the land crumbled from under him. Sending him down into it's depths. A cavern below..A hidden reservoir started to fill with water. Panic stricken with a deep sense of fear. He lets out a howl.

What made it so the water rose up with such great force? What could be the cause of this? The water isn't too far behind him.. He looks up at the sky through the hole.. The water would come down and if he doesn't get out of here soon... he will die in these waters.. In this place.. his pack wouldn't even know what happened to him.. He has to find a way out.

Turning he surveys the area quickly. Moving to go further into the caves. Hoping and praying to the white alpha that they led to higher ground. Legs trudging through ever rising water.. As he reaches the far side he can hear the beginnings of the water pouring down into the hole.. Pushing forward he tries to move faster which he soon realizes will only drain his energy further.. He has to pace himself. He lets out another howl.. this one more of frustration. Why did this happen to him.. and will these caverns become his grave?

The bluebird twitched on Duke's shoulder. Duke stopped to listen as well, ears tilted and swivelling as they tried to catch that sound. The echos were so hard to track.

"... Echos? Of a howl?" he muttered, glancing at his companion. He glanced around, trying to place it, then sighed, unable to find the source, or any clues. He trudged on, shivering, and shook out the water from his fur as the bird fluttered above him and resettled between his ears, only to shudder and shake, himself.

Both perked again when another howl sounded, seeming louder, somehow. He listened until it died, before he tilted his head back and howled back, hoping for another response. It was still echoey, but he was sure it was nearby. "Trill!" The bird chirrupped in annoyance, but took to the air, to look around, then flittered off towards a few hills nearby. Duke howled the charge, an announcement he was there, he was coming.

Running swiftly, paws flying over the terrain beneath her feet Nightshade headed desperately for higher ground. She'd been exploring the riverbeds for useful plants when the water level had began to rise drastically. When the waves had surged in from the ocean she'd known something was wrong, and had been lucky enough to escape before the waters washed her away. She knew there would be injured Varsythe, there always were after such events, and it was her duty to assist them. This time, she would be prepared. She'd spent the last few moons exploring the lands, gathering a variety of items with various uses, though she'd never have expected this would be how she'd use them.

When Nightshade finally made it atop one of the higher hills, she lifted her head to the sky and howled, hoping to catch the attention of any nearby. As her call faded away she paused, taking a deep breath.
"I am a Healer seeking the injured and the maimed,
Avail yourselves to me so that your health might be regained!
Your jobs are better done when your strength have been reclaimed,
Let me tend your wounds so you can save those that remain!"

Hearing her voice falter, she pulled herself together, howling again. She could hear the playful teasing of her pack when she'd first come up with the phrase, but now was not the time to dwell on such things. There where Varsythe who needed her help, and she had no need to change what worked. After all, her point was clear and it was long enough to allow for her direction to be discerned if needed. Preparing to howl again she paused, waiting to see if any responded. There was no use running around wildly, that was just as likely to see her heading in the wrong direction. She'd wait, and see who needed her help.

Rainclaw was not a fan of water, her name came from the time of her birth...the female wasn't a swimmer. At least not a strong one. So when the floods happened she found herself at a major disadvantage. Slipping on mud for what seemed like the hundreth time. She nosed the pup she had managed to save ahead of her. It broke her heart to know that other pups...perhaps smaller than this one were now lost. She felt a small part of her lose faith in her White Alpha...if he truly was guiding them...then what was this? Why did this happen?!? She growled. For the first time in her life. She looked up to the pup who shivered. Nosing them further onward she heard other pups...ears perking she urged the pup to a high rock.

"Stay there. I'll be back." She found a small group of pups, stranded on a rock. The water was low and she saw a log holding back most of the rapids. She took a deep breath before swimming over to them. She counted them to be four in all. Nodding she grabbed the smallest one and swam them back. Repeating this for the next two she had them all gathered at the high rock where the first pup was still seated. She went back for the last pup, getting them to the shore before the tree broke. She let out a yelp as the tree smacked her hindquarters as she scrambled on the shore. She managed to get on the shore. Head lowered in pain as she felt a throb in one leg. There was a gash deep and running red. She pushed on getting all pups gathered on the rock she looked around. "Is anyone else out there?!?"

She hoped more of her pack were alright. She was sure these pups weren't theirs but they were in need of family now. She wasn't going to let them feel alone.

It was difficult running, the ground was treacherous and once a great chunk of it fell into the river when he got too near the unsteady ground near the banks. If it'd not of been for a single well-timed leap (and not so graceful landing he was glad no one saw), losing the ground he'd just gained during the subsequent swim would of been the last of his worries. Laying on the ground panting, and covered in mud and bits of leaves and twigs, he used the moment as an excuse to catch his breath and listen for others.

In the distance, he heard some howls, but it was hard to tell how close they were nor whom it was calling. Did it matter if they were of his pack? Yes...and no. He had an obligation to his pack, but important to help all he could. Getting up, he shook himself a little, flinging mud onto nearby trees, and started at a ground eating trot towards the nearest of the howls, however it was a loud yelp that truly caught his attention. It was close!

Carefully he began picking his way back toward the river, feeling the ground for instabilities as he moved, leaping from rock to rock when possible for better traction, finally coming in site of a group of pups on a rock, a fifth being nosed to higher ground by a female... "Rainclaw!!" She was safe! For a moment, he'd barely recognized her, half covered in mud as she was in her attempts to come back ashore. Bounding down, duty took over has he helped her to a safer position, the fact she was bearing little to no weight on one back leg was noticable, and he could smell blood. Blood? Was it his or hers?! "You're hurt..." he muttered in the standard male role of stating the obvious. He moved around her, searching for other injuries, noting the blood from a gash on one back leg. A deep one, it looked, and he whined in frustration, seeking out something that would help the wound and stop the bleeding. If only he'd paid more attention to the healers when was younger!

He turned in circles, looking around for anything to help in a move that looked like he was attempting to chase his tail and failing badly at such. The pups, shivering with fear, couldn't help but giggle at this site, which cause Riptide to stop and stare at them in almost wonder. Pups...pups!! What about the pups? Tuu was a pup...where was Tuu? He whined anxiously, then shook himself in an attmept to get his mind back onto track of what was important. And what was important? Rainclaw was hurt, that was important. That needed to be attended first. He could tell the pups were okay, at least seemed no worse for the wear physically, and moved back to Rainclaw, alternating licking at her wound to clean it, and looking about for what might help. "Why didn't I pay attention better? What is that plant? Would it...oh I don't know, wish I'd paid more attention..."

Gliding just above the surface of the water, taking care to keep her wings dry, Kallan caught sight of two blue-tinged Varscythe and a cluster of pups. Good, they're safe... ah. But not unharmed. What's that stuff again... She'd seen it before, but in this mess... heaving a sigh, she alighted on an outcropping. After assessing the situation further, she swiftly came to a decision.

"I shall scout upriver for aid. Perhaps there is some bloodmoss that hasn't been scoured away yet. Rest here, but tarry not if the risk is too great. I shall return." Without bothering for introductions, or waiting for their reply, she snapped her wings open and flew off once more. Action was imperative now. Words would do little to aid them in this horrific event. They will have to get over the shock of my apparent lack of manners.
