A page half way through a tatty leather-bound notebook...
Kodo: Small island nation, far away from practically everywhere and nobody who who isn't obsessed with 'Monsters has ever heard of it. People there understand their beasts? That's what they all say, practically Ferelden, hope the food is better! Also eggs?? Eggs are important, and on a tower. What will they think of next?
Ports: Camphoreon City, Makko Town. Camphoreon? Larger volume of traffic, less conspicuous. Security at ports? Chat to/up sailors.
Prospects: ?!?!?! People are people everywhere, so are prospects, play by ear.
Threats: The usual, also Team Rocket and previously Galatic. Galatic seems to have fallen off the map but Rocket still pops up in isolated cases, assume dug in somewhere. Not much to worry about, just avoid treading on toes! Cannot be any different to avoiding the Carta etc. Fortunate Rocket seems to be the active party, understandable motives compared to Galactic's??? Good names though on both counts, can't argue with the names.
Conclusion: Cold this time of year, con. Bar in Camphoreon apparently makes slushy drinks + ice creams with liquid nitrogen, intriguing pro! Overall has potential, can leave again if terrible. Pack a good coat. Steal/buy/acquire a good coat.
(A scribble added later sideways along the edge of the page) Why is everything named after scents, perfumes, or related? Is it important? Bring fragrances? Smelling delicious is never bad in any case.

So far so good! Camphoreon is a rather lovely city to behold from the ocean, I wonder where they keep the dirty parts? I will look for them tomorrow; today and tonight I shall spend exploring around the docks, there are a lot of bars and restaurants and it is not quite so cold as I had feared so it will be pleasant enough to spend the night out if that's what I decide to do.
On the way into the docks the ship's captain pointed out a tower to us, apparently this is the thing with the egg. The Egg of Arceus, I am quite sure I heard her verbally capitalise the words! I gather however that the egg was not laid by Arceus and in fact is not actually an egg at all. It is the egg - artefact, whatever it may be - that apparently allows the people of Kodo to understand their Pokemon. I thought that it was just an exaggeration, a way of saying how close they were to them, but I have since observed several people seeming to hold actual conversations with their creatures. It seems very fanciful but I cannot ignore the evidence of my own eyes and ears. I wonder how it works? I wonder if it will happen to me?
After the announcement I was informed by a rather striking older woman that each person only understands one of the types, and that there seems to be no way of knowing which your type will be. I can imagine a lot of bitterness and sulking if people don't get what they want! I asked her if she had experienced such disappointment but she informed me that she was quite content to have come to understand flying types, and that it makes the dawn chorus a whole new experience! I wonder what sort of things pokemon say to one another? Perhaps I shall find out soon enough.

D.O.B: ??.??.1992 (celebrated 18th September)
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 140lbs
Eyes: AMB
Detailed description: "Yes it's true, I am ridiculously handsome!"
Although he's rather short Zevran's tattoos and rather strong Spanish-sounding accent tend to make him stand out from a crowd in Kodo, a fact that he doesn't seem troubled by. He's obviously a very fit man, he moves with the poise of a gymnast or a dancer and has the muscles to match; feel free to stare at his rear, he is flattered by your attention! As well as working hard to maintain a toned physique nature was kind enough to give him what most would consider a very handsome countenance; a basically heart-shaped face with good cheekbones and a defined though not square jaw, the effect of which is furthered softened by full lips and long lashes.
These natural good looks are probably enhanced by the friendly smiles and salacious smirks that come easily to Zev's face, it's rare to see him looking displeased unless he is feigning extreme disappointment at some trivial matter for dramatic effect.
Besides the rather obvious tattoos on his face he has several more scattered around his body in similar designs: some on his right arm, his back, his legs, down his left side, and three curving across and down from his right hip. If you'd like to find out where they finish he would probably be happy to show you.
On the whole Zevran dresses casually and comfortably; he favours slim fitting jeans with a t-shirt and boots with the addition of a leather jacket if the weather demands it. For appropriate occasions he's quite happy to dress up however and manages to look as comfortable in a formal suit as he does in jeans, and as he seems to like to stand out he may well be wearing a touch of eyeliner too. Whatever his attire and whatever the situation however it's extremely rare to see Zevran looking anything but relaxed, he seems supremely comfortable in his own skin and confident in his ability to deal with anything the world throws at him.

Personality: "Charming and spontaneous."
Zevran approaches the world with a remarkably carefree attitude and is friendly to everyone he meets unless they're rude to him first, in which case he will probably set about needling and teasing them rather than snapping back. Along with a friendly nature he has a quick sense of humour, a rather filthy one too that he sometimes struggles to tone down for delicate flowers who might be offended by for example many and varied references to sex following a perfectly innocent comment they had made; it's just so hard to resist the opportunity! This only holds true if they look like they're old enough to drink though, it would be weird otherwise he says.
Planning is not Zev's strong suit and he's quick to admit that, indeed he barely ever has a plan beyond the next twenty four hours save for things like arrangements to meet friends. Why sit around worrying about the future when you could be out having fun, he asks? It sounds like a rather dull way to live. As one might be able to guess from this attitude Zevran never appears to have a stable job but he usually has at least a few dollars in his pocket earned through various means, none of which are immoral he insists.

Abel - He is fantastic fun, I shall definitely spend more time with him if I can. Beautiful eyes too, I am almost jealous! ...Humm. Yes. Well. He is... he is a good friend, I am surprised to say it but glad. I do not think I have ever had a friend as good as Abel. I have yet to say as much to him but.... In any case, I enjoy his company a great deal. I am still trying to work out how all of this happened, and when for that matter. I suppose it doesn't matter in the end, all that matters is... is how I feel. I love him. It is difficult to get the words out sometimes but it feels good to say it.
Dima - I encountered him only very briefly, a friend of Abel's who is a surgeon. Very large man.
Oliver - *Laughs* Oh dear me, whatever shall I do without his approval? I think I may cry.
Sasha - An interesting individual, their company was quite enjoyable! I'm quite certain they're up to something less than legal but I couldn't say exactly what it is. Unfortunately I can no longer find anything good to say about them. I could say a great number of bad things but I will not waste my energy.
Taavi - Adorable, but sadly not interested in threesomes. *Sigh* Ah well, one cannot have everything in life. Still adorable, he has been helping me with my pokemon and seems quite skilled in the handling of them.

Pokédex: #012 Butterfree, the Butterfly Pokémon. When attacked by other Pokémon, it defends itself by scattering its poisonous scales and fluttering its wings.
Diet: Fruit.
Ability: Compound Eyes raises accuracy by 30% of a move's original accuracy in battles.
Weaknesses: Rock x4, Flying x2, Fire x2, Electric x2, Ice x2
Resistances: Ground x0, Fighting x¼, Ground x½, Grass x¼
Nature: Bold (+Defence - Attack), Highly curious (Special Attack)
Zevran's notes: I found this little creature at a farm, trainers had been invited to come and capture Pokémon to control the population. I suppose this makes me a trainer now! He - I am told it is a he - seems to be very fond of me already and he is most endearing if you can forgive the occasional smell. He is quite curious about the world around him and extremely motivated by food, especially peanuts* and for some reason slices of lemon. Apparently I am not supposed to feed him too much of either but it is hard to say no to his strange little face.
* I have since discovered that he does not like spicy peanuts. At all. I can also report that having half chewed spicy peanut spat in your face is not an experience to be chased after.
Update - Curiously he has become what I can only call a friend. I always considered pocket monsters - Pokémon - mere animals albeit intelligent ones, it seems that I was mistaken. He is kind, funny, generous, and brave and I wouldn't be without him.
Update - Ahhh, finally he is a lovely Butterfree! Just as sweet as before and much stronger.

Pokédex: #406 Budew, the Bud Pokémon. Sensitive to changing temperatures, the bud blooms when it's warm, releasing toxic pollen.
Diet: Primary photosynthesiser, supplements must be given in the winter or if kept out of sunlight.
Ability: When a Pokémon with this Ability is hit by a move that makes contact, there is a 30% chance that the attacking Pokémon will become poisoned.
Weaknesses: Flying x2, Fire x2, Psychic x2, Ice x2
Resistances: Grass x¼, Fighting x½, Water x½, Electric x½, Fairy x½
Nature: Modest (+Sp. Attack -Attack), Highly persistent (Defence)
Zevran's notes: A second acquisition from the farm, she is rather shyer than the Caterpie - I think I will call him Amigo - and seemed very disoriented at first, but then I suppose I would be too if somebody captured me from my home in a ball and later released me in a strange place. She doesn't do very much but she is what they call a 'baby' Pokémon so I suppose she has a lot of growing to do and little energy for other endeavours.
Important note, avoid breathing in her pollen.
Unlike my other pokemon she did not seem to take well to captivity so I released her back into the wild at a site Taavi recommended.

Pokédex: #570 Zorua, the Tricky Fox Pokémon. It changes into the forms of others to surprise them. Apparently, it often transforms into a silent child.
Diet: Zorua are omnivores, they have highly varied diets and are famed opportunists. Feeding an omnivore dry mix supplemented with fresh meat (including roughage), vegetables, and fruits a few times a week makes for a perfectly healthy diet.
Ability: Zorua's Illusion ability can change only its own appearance. It can make itself look like a Pidgey, but it cannot conjure the image of a Pidgey sitting beside it. Zorua can make themselves look like humans whose appearances they know, but the human image will have a Zorua's tail.
Weaknesses: Fighting x2, Bug x2, Fairy x2
Resistances: Psychic x0, Ghost x½, Dark x½
Nature: Rash (+Sp. Attack, -Sp. Defense) Proud of its power (Attack)
Zevran's notes: Ah, well, I can explain; when the farmer offered me an egg I though I was getting lunch. This turned out not to be the case but how much harder could it be to care for three pokemon than two? I also learned today that all pokemon come from eggs, all of them! Most unusual but then many things about pokemon are most unusual.
The egg has not yet hatched but I am told it will be a Zorua, they sound easy to feed though possibly difficult to manage. We shall see!
I was right, she is a handful! She seems to have little to no sense of danger or self preservation, I like her! Amigo has taken to her as well, I think they will be quite the pair.

Pokédex: #226 Mantine, the Kite Pokémon. If it builds up enough speed swimming, it can fly over 300 feet out of the water from the surface of the ocean.
Diet: Small shrimp, krill, and similar organisms. Can be fed a standard carnivorous fish-Pokémon food flake.
Ability: When a Pokémon with Water Absorb is hit by a Water-type move, its HP is restored by one quarter of its maximum HP, and the move will have no effect on that Pokémon
Weaknesses: Electric x4, Rock x2
Resistances: Ground x0, Fighting x½, Bug x½, Steel x½, Fire x½, Water x½
Nature: Calm (+Sp. Defense -Attack), Likes to run swim and glide (Speed)
Zevran's notes: I did not name this poor unfortunate creature - I won him playing poker - but I have no idea how to change it so he shall be known as 'Pan'.
I just read the Pokédex, 300 feet? Is that exaggeration? We are definitely trying that, though I suppose I should probably figure out some sort of safety harness first.

"So yeah, you can set up in any of the rooms without a decorated door." The rainbow-haired young woman gave a lazy smile and made a languid gesture at a set of metal stairs ahead of them leading up to a walkway that ran around the outside and down the middle of the wide open space. "Up there, then through the door and up the next set of stairs. It's all old offices and some storage rooms right in the attic so whatever takes your fancy. You'll want to decorate your door when you move in though, to show it's yours. We don't have a lot of rules here, just no hard drugs and don't do anything to draw too much attention to us right? Police have turned a blind eye so far but if you make trouble they'll have to do something, and then we all lose our home. Ahh... Yeah, so my sister fills the water tank every morning so we got water but uh, we're still working on hot water and a constant electricity supply. You need something charged though ask Starchild, he's got some electrical friends who can fix you up if you offer him some art supplies."
Zevran nodded along with the leisurely flow of information Dawn provided and kept any slight amusement he might feel at the utterly serious use of the name Starchild to himself, how people chose to live and what they wanted to call themselves was none of his business whatsoever. "Ah, your sister?" he asked curiously, he assumed it was a pokemon but what kind?
"Yeah, Atlantia, she's a Blastoise," Dawn explained with a peaceful smile. "Now you need anything else friend? We've got some old hammocks Starchild got as part of a trade for a mural a little while ago if you want one, a welcome gift yeah?"
"Ah! Well that sounds a lot more comfortable than sleeping on a hard floor, thank you," Zevran replied with a grin and a light laugh.
"It's all good," Dawn nodded, "I'll get that for you when you've picked a room then and I can introduce you to everyone too, just come knock for me. I'm on the third floor, look for the winged rainbow Rapidash."
Of course it was a winged rainbow Rapidash, how could it be anything else? Zev smiled and nodded in return. "Ah, excellent! Thank you Dawn I shall do so."
With a parting wave to Dawn - who returned it in the unhurried manner he was already becoming accustomed to - Zevran turned and headed up the echoing steps. This was certainly not how he had expected his day to go when he stopped in the park to chat to Dawn about her music but he wasn't complaining! There were many worse places to stay than with a small crowd of slightly peculiar 'free spirits' as they called themselves, he should know he'd been staying in some of them since he'd arrived in Kodo! Running water, even if it was cold, would be a luxury.
