Zaku took a deep controlled breath, staring at Michael with a stern look. "Care to explain what happened at parley? Everything was going according to plan. So why did you feel the need to do all that?" he asked calmly, obviously holding back anger as he genuinely wanted to know just what caused Michael to fly off the handle. Surely, there was a good explanation. One he couldn't answer himself, so he had turned to asking directly in hopes that Michael would better explain his motives. He didn't want to be so quick to label Michael as defected without talking to him first, a claim he knew was only said in anger. Yet still, it had to be considered at face value.
Michael scratched the back of his head and looked around to make sure no one was within earshot of them. "I..." He bit his lip nervously, his face starting to flush. "They...made fun of Delilah, and we'll that's unforgivable. On top of that, Criel was out of control. If we didn't do something, we were going to continue to not be taken seriously. " Michael groaned. Delilah saw everything and probably thought he was a monster. " I can't stand that you can take everything so calmly. None of that seemed to bother you, and I just.. I couldn't think. I was so mad. I just wanted everything to stop. " Michael winced as he shifted his weight. "I get it if you want me to leave."
Zaku watched his behavior, turning from defiance to something more innocent. He sighed, making the connection. "I wish you had told me there was someone that could rile you up so quickly, let alone a girl that would be involved in the parley." his look was still stern, trying to hold some kind of authority but finding that difficult when he considered the man in front of him as close as family. "Dont get me wrong, I was pissed too. I've just had a lot of time to think, to calm my mind. Its difficult I know. And I'm not without my own faults. But that's why we work as a team. We cover each other's backs." He closed his eyes to think, "This puts us in a pretty bad position. We will likely never get another chance to talk to the leaders." He listened to Michael suggest that he might kick him out, as Zaku frowned a placed a hand on his shoulder. "I'm not making you leave. I just need to know we are on the same page. That we work together. As a family. If you can at least try your best for that, we will find a way to make this work for us. I have that confidence."
"This ... I... " Michael stammered, trying to find the words. He wanted zaku to be mad at him. He knew he messed up. "Well what do we do? It seems only Belosh cares about us. I don't know how we get the deep seated hatred of the humans unrooted. They're scared of us. They always will be. They consider us monsters when we could be much more. We are living , breathing people, just as them..." Michael turned away to look at a window and clasped his hands behind his back. " I don't see another way Zaku. We've tried the peaceful route."
"I've wanted to keep this as peaceful as possible. And even with what we had, they still weren't listening. Its hard to say what the next step is without immediately jumping to unnecessary violence. Yet I find all our options exhausted. The only things left is to comply and fall in line, or give them the war they want. I honestly don't want to start a another war. My dream was to end the suffering not create more. I wanted peace." he looked out the same window thoughtfully. "I feel like there is other factors. Things I'm not seeing. Maybe that's just the optimist in me. Hoping for another way out." His eyes narrows in longing pain. "I've lost too much to turn back now. But, cards on the table, I'm scared." Zaku closed his eyes. "Part of me wants to be the violent leader everyone wants me to be. The other half wants to give up in the face of hopelessness before more people die over this. But isnt complacency the fuel to more destruction in the end." he sighed, just idly talking his thoughts out now. "I have a lot to think about, don't I." he forced a smile then shook his head, changing the subject to something just as important. "Do we need to go get her... Or do you think she is safe where she is? I saw the look on her face when you got angry. Surely I wasn't the only one." he paused, allowing those facts to sink in with Michael, to let him decide for himself what should be done in regards to Delilah.
Michael sighed. "I wear my emotions outwardly, that's why I wear the mask, among other reasons. But as long as Delilah is safe, I will be alright. Hopefully we don't get another jaded a** in Criel. Although we probably will. " he huffed, turning his head to look at Zaku. " it was never meant to be like this. I was trying to scare my point across. Not kill the imbecile. I never imagined Ree would betray then and kill him under the guise that we did it." He looked down, then back out the window. //Perhaps that will deal with SIU. Should have kept your mouth shut boy.//
"It's very likely will appoint someone just as cruel." he retorted with a sigh. "I know. But they used your anger to their advantage. It was a powerplay. Luckily, Lucian shed a bit of light on that and everyone was able to see their own betrayal. I just... never expected them to try to frame us. Blow us up, yeah? But never that... but you knew that." he looked to Michael, the anger in his eyes dying down now, being replaced with one of sadness. "This is a mess..." He reached up to run his fingers through his pink hair and looked to the door. "It played out so well... Are you sure there's no way they knew about you and her?" he asked, despite the fact that even he had no idea about their connection until the parley. Even if they didn't know, the facemasks might have drawn suspicions. Even worse the way she said his name over the call, as if she knew or at least remembered him. The whole thing put him at an unease. "I have a friend there.. I'll make a phone call and see if she's okay. Then we will figure out from there. Whether we should go get her or not. Don't know whether she'll be safer there or here with us." Zaku shook his head, trying to keep his swimming thoughts clear. "I'll let you decide. I'll make the call after we question Tri. If he ever wakes up again... Moira probably gave him enough brain damage to make him a god damn vegetable...." he sighed, "Also noting we need to find Lucian fast before she starts getting antsy. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of her fist."
Zaku found it odd when Michael relayed to him that Kae had wanted to speak with him. Up to this point, she had avoided talking to anyone but Michael it seemed, but to suddenly want to see him was a little.. surprising. He had honestly wanted to give her her space after all that had happened to her, his own guilt set in over everything as he desperately tried to cling to his own fighting spirit. Sighing, he knocked lightly on the door before entering. He met gazes with Kae silently, noticing she was alone. Moving into the room he walked over and pulled a chair up to the side of the bed and sat down. "You asked for me..." he broke the silence gently, unsure of how to even approach the person who was not only supposedly responsible for his existence, but also the mother of his ex-husband. This is was very awkward to say the least.
Kae quirked an annoyed eyebrow then sighed. "Don't make this worse than it needs to be... You look guilty... At least you could try to fake it like you do to everyone else." she commented flatly with bitterness in her voice. She looked away, almost angry, as she tried to think of something else to say. "Yes, I know about you and him. No, I don't care. Not that I should, from what I see you aren't wearing a ring like you used to. So I can only assume that you broke up with him to protect him or Deskri waltzed back into his life..." the scorn was deep in her words as she narrowed her eyes.
"A little bit of both it seems...." he answered softly, then moved topics quickly, not wanting to think about it. "So if I'm not here to feel the wrath of a former deceased ex-mother-in-law, than why did you ask for me... I have a feeling you're a bit too prideful to thank me, nor would I accept it anyway. We didn't do much past running around like chickens with our heads cut off as we tried to accept your existence back into play as well as try to make sure you didn't land back into Haven's hands through ulterior motives to keep us all alive." he stared at her with a cold look. He didn't understand what could have peaked her interest so much as to call him for a private chat. It couldn't have been the weather... Nope, not that.
There was a glimmer of anger in her eyes as he spoke, but she shoved her emotions aside for now. "Just wanted to discuss a matter with you before I left."
"Leaving already?"
"You honestly think I'd stay?"
"Honestly?... I'm surprised you stayed as long as you have..."
"...amusing." she commented sarcastically.
"And what would that matter be?" he asked with a bit of curiosity and uneasiness.
"It's about your daughters..."
"..daughter." he corrected, honestly hoping it was an errror on her part.
"...daughters." she reiterated with an unamused but analyzing face as she quirked an eyebrow. So he at least knew about one of them but not the other. Interesting.
"....daughters."
Kae nodded.
"Is this a joke?"
As if she could look even more unamused by his question. "Does it look like I'm in any mood to joke with you about anything..." she asked bluntly with a slight hint of annoyance in her voice.
"...s**t...." he cursed as he looked away with a stern look as he thought for a moment. "What's her name?.... Where is she?...." he demanded as he looked at Kae with fierceness in his eyes that burned with a certain determination but also desperation.
"You don't even know where the first daughter is and you want to know where the second daughter is.. why?" she looked confused and slightly perturbed that he would demand information from her like that and not expect some form of retaliation and scrutiny.
Zaku looked not only hurt but angry himself as he narrowed his eyes at Kae. "Melody is with SIU... well, she was... I'm working on a plan to get her back." He almost seemed to glare at Kae but sighed and looked away with a pained look. "I want to prove I'm not a failure to them..." he confessed softly.
"Well it's a little too late for that. So own up to the fact that you're both shitty parents. But I'm honestly not surprised with him, he doesn't exactly have a good point of reference to go from... but I expected more from you... so-called Leader of all the renegade. If I tell you where the other one is, what are you even going to do with that information? What if she's happily adopted elsewhere... you'd ruin that?" she questioned with spite in her words as she almost hissed at him.
Zaku remained silent as he looked away. Thinking. She had a point. "I wouldn't ruin that for her if she's happy. I just want to know that she is..." he answered in an even softer voice.
Kae sighed and looked down at the blanket that covered her as she sat in the bed. "Well, she's also at SIU... well, she was until just before I was captured. She ran off last I checked... Zira took her to Aldas to keep her safe with everything that happened."
There was a flicker of confused as he looked at her suddenly the down to the floor in deep thought as he furrowed his eyebrows angrily, piecing it together. He then looked to Kae with wide eyes and a hint of pain, defeat, and anger. "...Hexxis?.."
She looked up to stare at him with a serious expression. "You are correct... Hexxis Luz is your blood daughter..."
"...Luz.... no... she was... god dammit... and I.... s**t." his words were incoherent as his thoughts raced. "...trisuri..." he muttered.
"Ironic, isn't it? You're daughter being raised by your enemy. Ahh, wait, no, what's more ironic is that Melody has taken such a fondness for Mara, the leader of those enemies..." she added, as she seemed none too pleased about having to have this talk with him. "So what are you going to do about this?"
"....Hexxis is on a transfer list to Haven once they find her...." he spoke suddenly then and exhaled with force. "I'll find her somehow and... I don't know... help her.... I.... I'll just find her first... Make sure she's okay." he answered then came to a stand, ready to leave. "Thank you."
"Don't... I hardly care.. I just would feel bad if I hadn't told you... Besides, you'll return the favor by telling my son that he better have a damn good explanation waiting for me when I find him.... or I'll kill him myself..." she narrowed her slender eyes in anger as she spoke with a calm voice that sent chills down Zaku's spine. Sighing, she turned to look away, seemingly done with the conversation.
"Before I go... I have one question for you..." he clenched his fists at his sides, glaring at Kae.
"...oh goodie,... more questions... what do you want." she answered a heavy sense of apathy and annoyance.
"Why did you do it?"
"Because I was bored, what more do you wa-...."
"Why did you torture Lucy!!" he voice was angry, in a hushed shout that he almost couldn't control as the room fell completely silent.
Oh.. that."...Why do you care?.." she answered softly, not even turning to look at him as she stayed faced away.
"Because he's my best friend... Now tell me... Why did you torture your own grandson..." his voice went low, and stern as it conveyed the pain he felt for the subject.
"...It needed to be done." she responded calmly then paused. "If you're quite done, you can go now."
Zaku look like he was ready to throw a punch or scream as he tensed up. He wanted to say something, then began to move. His head down as he made his exit out of the room, stopping at the door. "I will not forgive you for what you did to him until you give me a real answer."
"Get used to disappointment, kid."
He clenched his teeth. "You're horrible."
"..I'm aware."
And with that, Zaku left the room, practically slamming the door as he shut it and trudged to his room. This was the worst conversation ever and he was ready to just drown it out with music at full volume before he'd be able to calm down again.

Reality Check
Zaku had been driving for quite a few hours now, a steady speeding pace while Cordelia napped in the drivers seat, listening to his mp3 player.
He had been focused on the road, mulling over what needed to be done, things he could offer, anything to help at all. His concentration was broken when his phone began to ring. Shifting, he retrieved it and looked down at the number, a frown forming on his face as he answered it. "...hey... we should really ta-.."
"When the hell were you going to tell me?!?!" a voice screamed out on the other end, angry and full of spite.
Zaku wasn't sure what he was talking about as he looked concerned and sighed. "I'm going to need you to be a bit more specific..."
"For ******** sake, Zaku! You show the whole world my mother exists and not even a passing text to say, Oh hey, by the way, I found your mother,... she was tortured by Haven and she's in my base... Are you ******** kidding me?!?!..."
Zaku sighed, "Things have been crazy lately, I haven't had the time to barely think... it honestly slipped my mind..."

"No! You ******** listen!! I've given you time and obviously you don't give a s**t about your own damn daughter to even try to get her back from SIU... Maybe Rasiel the Killer should make an appearance and show them not to ******** with his daughter!!"
Zaku's expression became more stern as he narrowed his eyes. "Idiot! Why would you risk that! After all you've done to make Sanctuary, why throw it all away now!!"
"I made sanctuary becuase of you! And to protect our children!! Well, guess what, our kid is out there in the clutches of some government research facility which last I ******** checked was involved in the ******** up you called a parley. So why the ******** am I here, sitting pretty when my daughter is out there and in danger?! I wanted this place for us and that didn't ******** happen!!"
Zaku couldn't help but feel angered over Rasiel's words, suddenly starting back in, yelling, "So much for a place for us, you replaced me by the time I even woke up.. Went crawling back to your ex and cast me aside like you did Andy. So don't even start!"
"You were in a coma for seven years, what the ******** was I supposed to do?! I waited, and honestly I thought you were gone forever, so excuse me if I finally found the strength to move on!"
"Or stumble backwards! I'm beginning to think you probably did know about the other kid and covered it up... Now I'm travelling all across Tretera to protect both our daughters, and all you want to do is complain about how I'm going about it. I'm sick and tired of people bitching at me for how I do things. I gave that up to have a kid with you, got attacked by your malice, wake up seven years later to have you clamoring over someone else and people still blaming me for s**t I didn't do, a half-assed team of teenagers who don't want to listen and two daughters who are scattered to the ******** winds because neither of their parents can get their s**t together long enough to even be halfway decent parents! There was silence before a crash was heard. "How ******** dare you!! I can't believe you say all that and still ask to have a normal conversation... This is just... classic."
"Fine, if you want to be immature about this, then I'll just say what I was trying to tell you before then be on my merry damn way. Obviously Kae is still alive, she left the base a while back and guess what? She's allied with SIU, have fun with that. Also, we have two daughters. Melody who has a Mane now.. funny thing, it's your sister. Isn't that great? She's also with Kae and Mara at SIU. Now the other, that one's a doozy, so hold on to your seat for this one. She was stowed away by your facility, tortured and turned into a combat weapon by Haven operatives, had a Malice who did actually try to kill me... that was great. Now, she's all grown up, a top ranking mercenary.. oh no, wait, she's not anymore because someone hit some kind of subconscious programming of hers and made her a robot. Oh, but it gets better. The icing on the cake that is this god awful mess, is some a*****e thought it would be a delightful idea to straight up kidnap her, attack your daughter slash sister, and right now is god knows where. So you might be asking yourself... But Zaku, what are you doing about all this.. you know so much, surely you have some sort of plan. Oh ho ho, that's where things get interesting. I just agreed to help the person who was framed for the murder of a city leader who happens to be her adopted brother go find her... myself. I'm in a car. And I'm driving to him right now. This could very well be a trap, I could die and you'd never hear from me again... but who cares about that right? It's not like I'm risking my life for our broken family.. Oh, sorry... too close to home? My bad."
"You know what, I was getting better... I hadn't heard Obscurite's voice in a long while.. I was handling my anger and my mental state. And you're only making it ******** worse! You've hidden things from me to the point where I can't even trust you anymore, and now you thinking by being a sarcastic douche-bag is going to help my mental state in all this?! "I think I will.. and before I go.. let me remind you that you were getting better back then too... If you're mental state is a wreck now, that's your fault. I wanted to have a nice talk... but this is what we got." he paused, his voice low as he was fuming. "It's been nice, don't call me again." he promptly hung up the phone and threw it into the backseat, gripping the steering wheel, he pushed the gas petal a lot harder than he already had been. A quick glance confirming that Cordelia was still asleep, the music loud enough to mask the yelling and noise. At least there was that...
There was a time where I fought with every fiber of my being for the cause that could protect my people, my race. The children I know who are hurt, abused, and experimented on without a care. I cared. Enough to keep me awake at night. Every moment since I found I had caused such a wake of death. Every death there after was for a better cause then senseless ideals to use us as weapons.
But...
Lately I've felt lost. My fire slowly dwindling as I face new trials. You know, I never expected a mutiny right beneath my nose. I trusted the renegades. I built it. I built it all, and for someone to so easily rally my members to want to turn on me... Have I lost my touch? Am I just not that important anymore...? Or is my name better spoken as a martyr... Maybe I'm just afraid.
Afraid I'll turn around to the empire I built and find it turned against me. That everything I fought for will have been for nothing.
I think I just..
I should leave.
I'm not wanted. The renegade ran without me for seven years... what was ever my purpose if I was never needed?
I just need to breathe. And really decide what it is I'm even doing anymore...

Life Has a Funny Way of Changing Plans //After Running Into Tri Again//
Of all the things I expected, running into Tri was dead last. I mean, I did hope he'd never see me again. What with Hexxis wanting nothing to do with me either. Yet another person who could care less what happened to me.
I had hoped a stroll alone would give me clarity on my mixed feelings but it just ended with... well, Tri.
This really only makes things even more confusing.
What a predicament, to be frank.
When it rains it pours.
Fell in a tunnel and the damn thing collapsed, what luck, right? But you know, for some reason I can't stop thinking about how Tri reached out for me just before everything went dark. Maybe I imagined it, but when I can't sleep and I lay there with my eyes closed, I can see his panicked face in such a vivid way. The more I see it, the more I hate seeing his face.
I want to think it's because he's my enemy, but part of me is starting to think it was that expression. I hate it. I never want to see that expression on his face again.
Why.
Why do I even care?
I don't.
I doesn't matter.
Anyway, captured yet again. Offered to work my bounty and they'll let me go. Honestly, Cordelia would turn blue with a full lecture on how much this is a bad idea, but maybe it will help clear my head. To be needed here. Even if they don't like me, I can at least do something. Keep busy.
I'm also curious about why Tri is here. A debt? What is that all about?

Of course it was. I'd think no less to expect this of him for his family. Admirable.
There I go again.
Maybe he wouldn't look so strung out if he didn't have a debt looming over him. He doesn't deserve that. Maybe that's why Hexxis is elsewhere. He should be with her.
