Edel and Ivar listened half-heartedly to the villager's sob story of how a pair of beautiful wyverns had passed away, leaving behind a nest full of eggs. By now, they were both sure that the request for their retrieval were not of the intent to protect, incubate and hatch them into magnificent beasts, but to eat them. Still, it was hard not to notice how the villagers were beginning to warm up to them, and for that same reason it was difficult to ignore their earnest requests. The easier they were to talk to, the more they could find out about the village and what happened to it. It was a question that began to weigh even more heavily on their minds, after witnessing how delightful the place could possibly be.
Perhaps word had gotten around that the ghoul could climb the mountain with relative ease, after her swift exploits at retrieving the machallite ore for another villager. It was rather unsettling to be sent off on the expedition by a party of villagers who were cheering and giving them a thumbs up – unless they were meant for a completely different reason.
No, the two of them were not going to get stranded on the mountain and share a tender moment with each other, if she could help it.
Staring at the peak of, the ghoul readied herself for the climb with a few stretches, tying up her hair neatly to avoid the winds from blowing it into her face.
“Uhm...” she turned to Ivar, who was noticeably less confident about dealing with the mountain climb, “Just follow my lead, and be careful not to slip.” The ascent should be much easier with her ability and familiarity with the terrain, but they could never be too careful. “Tell me to slow down if need be, alright?”

He vaguely remembered the last time he had been up on a mountain, and that was a few years ago. Being at Master Zaira's dispense meant that he had to be the one to pay a house visit to the frost demon's household up in the northern ridges. Ivar remembered being barely able to ward off a terrible cold in his time there, although the negotiations would run smoothly. In some sense, that was how this all begun, he thought to himself as he glanced at the frost demon wordlessly.
Fortunately, the nest was not located at the mountain summit where the air and the temperature would be much thinner and colder. The lack of snow on the lower parts of the mountain meant that he would have a far better grip on the mountain paths. Even when it came to the temporary footholds and bridges Edel would create with her ice, he would notice that the ghoul would have taken care to ensure that the surface was roughened to prevent him from slipping.
And sure enough, the ascent proved to be a simple task, and all there was left to do was admire the scenery from the rocky outcrop on which they stood, before heading back down again. From above, the town looked rather peaceful in its state of slumber, though it was noticed that the fog that shrouded it was an unnatural occurrence when compared to the areas around it. His expression darkened a little, recalling what he had been told about Miasma Town, and he wondered if there was anything he could do to change it.
Normally, the descent was always the part that required more caution. While Edel would have normally taken a more brazen approach of skiing or snowboarding down the slope, this time she was not alone, and having to take extra care of protecting the egg meant that she would have to take the normal way down.
“Watch your step and call for help,” she reminded the man, feeling a little embarrassed to be nagging at him but this was a matter of importance. Edel wondered if Ivar had suffered the misfortune of being dissipated before, but she was adamant on not letting that happen under her watch.
With their pace slowed down, the frost demon began to notice that the mountain was inhabited by a number of creatures. Some scuttled away and hid between the crevices as they passed by, while others would charge towards them, only to turn around at the last minute when she gave them a threatening glare.
Halfway down the mountain, the number of wildlife inhabiting it was noticeably higher. Edel had barely dodged a raptor that swooped down at her head before hearing a loud THUD! Trying very hard not to gape at the sand lobster, the ghoul quickly shook it off and kicked it away, sending it hurtling down the cliff with a satisfying crunch to be heard at the end. She wondered if the lobster would have made a good meal, but now was not the time to think about that.
As the gradient of the slope began to even out, the frost demon would find her path to be blocked by a small group of velociraptors that tottered around her cautiously, sniffing at the egg in her hands. She could see a look of bloodlust when she saw one, and a swift kick was delivered to one of them that came charging her way.
The egg had made it's way to the bottom undamaged, save for a few hairline cracks. Edel could not sigh in relief yet, as she waited for her company to make his way down safety too.
Meanwhile, Ivar's descent did not start off as well. Encountering a roadblock immediately after Edel had cleared a path, the man stood there waiting nervously as a large snake slithered past the tracks, taking what seemed to be forever to get it's long body across. He had made the unfortunate mistake of attempting to take a step over the snake's body, and his impatience was rewarded with a sound smack between the legs. The man gritted his teeth and willed himself not to cry out in pain, for fear of worrying the ghoul in front of him.
The man began to guess if it was the smell of the wyvern egg, or its brightly coloured shell that was attracting so much unwanted attention from the minipet wildlife in the area. Twice, he was given a good fright as something hard collided into the egg, leaving cracks on the shell in its wake. The sand lobsters were completely unapologetic about their disturbance, simply curling back up into a ball as the man punted them away, only to unfurl themselves and scuttle back into the cracks of the mountain. Ivar was certain by now that he may just not have any affinity for wildlife here.
With one last leap, the man found himself back on flat ground, relieved to find that the egg was still holding together despite the pronounced cracks on its surface. Heading back to the village, the two would be greeted by a crowd of hungry, cheering villagers who had started up a fire and a pot of boiling water in the meantime.
A slight twinge of regret cross the two demon's faces, as they reluctantly handed over the eggs to the villagers. While the villagers were kind enough not to blatantly begin what they assumed the hungry folk would do, the pair would leave the house after a drink or two, completely uncertain of the outcome of the wyvern eggs.
The two would notice on their way out that dark clouds have begun to roll into the sky, threatening what would look like a terrible thunderstorm...

It began to rain.
It didn't start off with a gentle pitter-patter of scattered raindrops. One moment the dark sky was churning, the next moment the area became drenched in a sudden downpour. No thunder boomed overhead; the only sound aside from the hissing rain was the soft whisper of the wind.
A whisper which grew into a howling shriek as the fog grew thicker, and it arrived.
Of course it would be a dragon. In stories it was always a dragon of some sort, wasn't it? This particular dragon is large and gray like the fog surrounding Misama Village. The rain doesn't seem to fall on it. Rather it falls in an area around it, as if it warded off the rain through the sheer force of its will.
The dragon throws back its head and unleashes a roar loud enough to stop the rain for one, two, heartbeats. The roar fades, and the rain resumes with a greater vengeance. You will not be able to complete this quest while this encounter is active. Except since you've already completed the quest the dragon instead roars again in a threatening manner.

The two stood still in utter silence as the scene unfolded in front of them. A brief moment of panic flashed across their minds, thinking that perhaps the eggs they retrieved had belonged to it. Yet, something about the situation seemed to indicate otherwise, as the downpour began indiscriminately over that part of the village. There was no mistaking, from the looks of it, that the dragon before them was the cause of the rain.
There was no shelter for them to hide under, and the frost demon could only quickly form a dome over them to shield them from the onslaught. Still from within, cries of fear and panic from the villagers could be heard.
They could run. But they could also do something.
"Ivar I need you to do me a favour," she not so much pleaded as commanded, "Go back to the village and get some help."
The temporary ice barrier she had erected over them was quickly melting away in the downpour. There was no point in delaying the inevitable, and the ghoul readied herself for battle.

She didn't give him any time to protest, and an icy javelin was sent flying through the air into the dragon causing the storm. With a creature as chaotic as the Kushala Daora was, any psychic attack he could muster was not good for much. His feeble attempt at a psychic shock was met with more rain.
"Go, please."
He took a step back, and finally conceded, making haste as he ran through the village calling out for help.
They could have simply ran away, like they had almost done when they encountered the sand whale. But somehow the village's safety weighed heavily on their minds, and they felt compelled to defend it...

Uttam had heard a request for help, something about an Edel...
Ah, he remembered that name. The lithe Demon who controlled ice and such. Penumbra had long been pushed to the back of his mind - survival and secrecy at the forefront - but the name clicked, and he jumped into action.
The Horseman approached without words or battle cry, simply a rather large meteor hammer crashing into the draconic monster, but bouncing off its scaled hide.
The Soldier frowned and moved in closer, swinging the weighted chain high above his head.

The torrential downpour was quickly turning the ground below Uttam, and the sand that flowed from the hole in his ribs, into mud. Uttam and mud were unfriendly at best, as there was so little of it in the dessert he haunted. Movement was made incredibly difficult, and aiming the ball and chain was an obtuse idea.
He opted to wait until he could find drier ground, or at least get his damned hair out of his eyes.

A flicker of recognition crossed her face as she spied the figure that had come to their aid. It had been quite a while ago, but the horseman was somewhat familiar....
"Uttam?" she ventured a guess, barely dodging the full brunt of the Kushala Daora's sweeping attack that sent her knocked back into the ground that was beginning to pond.
The rain felt hot against her skin, and it was an uncomfortable sensation to have the water freezing upon contact and forming layer of icy crust. Moving was much more difficult like this, on top of having poor visibility due to all the rain.
A shower of icy daggers was sent flying through the air once more, half of them missing their mark due to the impact of the downpour.

Still, it was evident that they were heavily outmatched with simply the two of them. Edel wondered why she was fighting a losing battle, but that did not stop her from launching another set of flying daggers at the dragon.
She had always been fighting a losing battle, when she first discovered the existence of the hunters.
But here she was, still fighting. Still hoping. And still giving it a shot for a better outcome. Because somehow, she was starting to see the light of a wonderful future ahead.
"Don't think any of our friends will show up?" she asked the famine horseman, the word 'friends' spoken with a hint of tentativeness. She wasn't sure what Penumbra meant to him, as it didn't amount more to her than a few useful connections that may have grown to become friendships for some. Still the question remained if they were able to get any more help in dealing with this rather daunting problem.
As the water continued to pool around her, the frost demon was beginning to feel the unsettling sensation of losing her balance, her body threatening to lift off the ground and float in the water. There was something strange about the water as well, perhaps the result of the fog mixing into it. Through the heavy sounds of the rain, the ghoul swore she could hear a faint whisper being carried through the wind, disappearing as quickly as it came.

"I doubt it, woman of ice." Uttam answered briefly, hurling his meteor hammer at the dragon once more and landing a hit on the wing, bringing a jackal's grin to the soldier's face. "I have not seen them for quite some time; yet I do not think we will need to see them so soon."
Uttam shrugged and twirled the weapon around his body, spinning himself with the momentum to gain distance from Edel, as not to put her in his crossfire. "You and I, this beast will be a charm for us. Watch and see."

Edel would probably never know if Ivar had managed to do his job and wrangled someone else in as aid against the large creature or if Waits had just stumbled upon them on his own accord. He was simply there and pondered if it was a good choice at all given the onslaught of rain that was coming down on the area.
It seeped into his many layers of clothing, it agitated the bugs that dwelled within his empty crevices. Waits didn't seem to move after initially getting there, was simply collecting his barrings and adjusting. His gaze was on the dragon, however. It looked amazing. (Even if it did strike him)

His residents were more often than not a more formidable weapon when he actually needed to battle and fight. But given the conditions, it was going to be unlikely they would venture out of the drier parts of him (if there were any left) and exposing them to the rain would not be ideal. (He had done so in his "youth" of course to see the effects and they had less than ideal. No, he wanted them to remain alive and problem free).
Waits pulled out his rope dart from one of his many sleeves and extended the length of the rope quiet a bit. He twirled it around, building momentum as he avoided one swipe of the creature's claws. It shot out as it had been named, like a dart, and found its way into the flesh of the beast's wing. It roared and swiped again, managing a hit upon the famine horsemen. But he pulled down, ripping a neat little hole in the wing.
