Noemi hadn't expected to fight while defending, and though she had finished her blue great knights request, there was much work to be done. Creatures poured from skies and cracks and rubble, crushing what was left underneath.
Her hand shook, her gaze faltered, but she drew her trident anyways and took a deep breath. A knight was brave.
She rushed to a shadow bird, swinging the trident low only to have it miss and sweep the creature up. And this did not look pretty.

If it was up to them, then they, and those they protected, were in serious trouble.
Riley swung her gnarled staff, meeting nothing but air as she tried to hit it with a wince. The other two who she'd joined to fight looked more prepared than her, but she couldn't be blamed for trying.
Even if she did look like she should simply turn back around and walk to the infirmary again.

Being joined by others made the small knight pretty happy.
But she still had underlining hesitation because she was joined by bigger and much stronger looking knights, and she hoped that she would still be able to do good for them

"I'll try, but.." Being careful wasn't Riley's best feature. She whacked the gnarled staff in front of her again, and felt the solid smack of something against the wood. Success!
Her joy was short lived when the man between them asked her an inappropriate question, and she considered turning and abandoning the battle in response. Instead, she stared at him with a thick, unhappy pout.
"Sir. Take care not to speak to me about such things. I've already told him not to do so. This is disgusting behavior for someone who calls themselves a knight. Hold your tongue."

Kostya grinned with a sharpness belied by the curve of his lips, strained as his crossbow's bolt failed to hit its mark a second ([i]third) time.
"Ah, but it is the end of this world, is it not? It looms closer with every passing moment. Perhaps you were someone noble before joining the ranks of your Great King, but many of us are uncouth."
A pause.
"Even if we can't remember." But it felt right: they had made a sacrifice. There was no way Kostya had been a high born prior to his joining.
"Alas! I shall worry no more for the loneliness you will surely endure. It is mine as well, although it is a willing sort of solitude."

Noemi nodded this time, her gaze falling on Riley's.
"In these times, Solitude is bliss." She looked from Riley to the decaying bodies and the carnage around them. She did not feel or see any of them touch her heart, and perhaps it was cold of her, but it also relieved her of the burden.
Her hand would play with the pendent she came to the kingdom with, even as they attacked again.
Without her memories, she felt alone. But she was sure if she had them? She would wish the loneliness ten times more then the pain.
"And I don't think..." She stuttered as she fell back from her hit, "There is anywhere to-" She cleared her throat, "Sully one's name. We are among rubble....after all...."

Oh, now that earned Riley a heartfelt chortle. "Higher planes!" he exclaimed, managing to actually strike the shadowy bird, piercing the meat of its wing. "What a joke if I've ever heard one-- there is nothing holy awaiting us at the end of a hard life, woman. There is only the earth we return to, in pieces or otherwise."
He barked with laughter at the girl's meek words, bemused that she would think of such things. "Three solitary souls amidst the wreckage, then," Kostya said, shaking his head. "I would not deem it a gift nor a bliss, simply a fact of life. You have much cotton in your head, or it is high amongst the clouds. I am grounded."

"Grounded." Riley muttered under her breath, clearly unimpressed with the man's way of life. "Here, in this filth, covered in blood and disease." She leaned down to pick up a handful of debris, and sift it through her fingers. "Mm. Yes, I believe you. You are grounded. And my head may be in the clouds, but at least it's clean. I much prefer my method to yours." She took his insults as compliments, because she preferred it. She would accept the claims, if it meant distance from the ground.
When she stood up again, her staff cracked hard against the leg of the monster that kept attacking them, nearly breaking it with the force of her attack. Lofty and in the clouds she might have been, but when needed, she packed a punch.

Noemi finished the bird by stabbing the trident in its side as Riley broke it's leg. It gave a gentle crunch that made her wince, closing her eyes.
"Enlightening thoughts are the way of white knights, are they not?" She pulled the trident free. "Grounded, fluffed, high. Does it matter?" She shrugged and then relaxed. "I would like to make it to the next day. Thank you for helping me." She offered a head of respect.
