Avani followed Naita. She was happy she lent her nose to the hunt for the hastar. She wasn't familiar with the deeper part of this forest yet and it was darker here. Avani tracked while Naita sniffed. It was difficult, but she could see some marks on the forest floor. So Avani relied on the signs of broken branches and bushes. Something that large had to make definite destruction when running.

They didn’t have to wait for long to find the hastar again as it seemed to be slowing down and wanting rest. It was drinking from a small stream that Avani had never seen before. While normally she would love to study the area, not only was this an adventure to capture a hastar, but she could tell, even with the thickness of the trees that daylight was fading fast. Soon Honka would be home, and it time for dinner. She motioned to Naita she was going to move closer and around to face him.

Avani went over near its head, and as it spotted her Avani quickly roped the animal. It tried to fight, but Avani held on. She slipped a bit a few times, but eventually she dug in her feet at the exposed root of a large tree, using it to anchor herself. She quickly wrapped the other end of her rope to a the large, sturdy tree that was the owner of the roots Avani had used. She then took out one of the taming jewels she had found when she was younger and placed it near the hastar and activated it with a pulse of magic.

The hastar seemed to calm a bit, but still tried to fight. Avani took in a deep breath and looked around for Natia.

“Let’s see what happens next.” She called out since she couldn’t find her

The hastar, for the moment seemed to be captured for now…

    ((Heh. Malta?! Criani?! Really?!))

Naita tracked it easily enough through the woods. Time was, she hadn't been so good at tracking, but apparently she was getting used to being on her own now and following her nose and instincts. She shoved her way through brush and tree until she found the beast. She put on a burst of speed, blocking its escape again. She knew it could and would go through her to escape, of course, but hey – she'd gotten beat up twice, a third time would just build character.

Fortunately for her poor abused blue hide, Avani managed to rope the beast. “Oh! Hey! Ye got it!” she exclaimed, trotting over, “What did you do there? Magic? We coulda used some 'o that before, y know.” Naita admonished, “Just sayin', we'd have had a whole lot less trouble.”

Not that she was angry – a good run like that put her in a good mood. “Aye. What happens next.” she nosed at the hastar's rope, and at the knot that bound it to the tree. “I'm thinkin' that will hold.” she commented, mostly to herself, “If th' tree will, anyway.”

Which, she knew, wasn't always likely. “So.” she said, lashing her tail smugly, “What now, Avani?”

Malta I generaly get Naita mixed up with. I have no clue where Criani came from ^^"""""

"I didn't have my jewels with me before" Avani said. She then smiled at Naita, "To cumbersome, but I am more determined now, mostly cause I'm wasting your time not using it."

She then reached into her gear and pulled out some fruit. It was less sticky this time, but still a nice piece. She knew the hastars her father rased loved them.

So she smiled at Naita and said showing her the fruit, "Now we try to make friends again."

She slowly went to the hastar and, taking the glowing jewel with her, she came up to the animal offering the fruit.

"It's ok boyo." Avani said holding the fruit out and placing the jewel down, "We won't hurt you. See? I have tasty fruit for you." Avani took a piece of fruit and ate it, "Mmmmm. See? Nothing wrong with it."

The hastar, who was trying to back away, stopped as soon as he saw the fruit. He eyed Avani for a moment, then reached forward and quickly took the piece of fruit. Avani smiled and took another piece out and as he was still chewing the first piece, she placed a hand on his nose. The animal was still looking at her, but eagerly nudged her hand for the second piece. Avani laughed, rubbed it’s nose and gave the second piece to the hastar.

“You are such a good fellow. Though I suspect you are rather hungry and tired after all that running around eh?”

She untied the rope and held out another piece of fruit. It seemed to know it was free, but it just looked at Avani, then accepted the third piece of fruit. As she tugged at the rope, he followed along with Avani. Perhaps it was trying to get another piece of fruit? Avani didn’t care. She picked up the taming jewel and led the hastar over to Naita.

"There." Avani said to Naita laughing a bit as she rubbed the hastar’s nose, "Hard part is almost over. Time to get him home."

    Gentle Poking

“Heh. I wouldn't call it a waste. It's a fun run, aye, that it is.” she said, watching in amusement, “I'm just sayin' it would have been a good idea, is all.” she said, watching Avani with the hastar intently.

So crystal, magic, fruit, and a gentle hand... “Nice” she said, nodding as the beast allowed itself to be led, even when freed. “Now that's what I call magic.” the Firani commented, “None of this light show and flamethrowin' business. That's somethin' else entirely. This.” she gestured to the placid hastar, “This be real magic. Gentle like... whats th' word. Sub... somethin.” she stretched easily, the joints in her back crackling with the effort, “Me ma used to say it all th' time. Sub-buttle, or somethin. I don' remember. I ain't too good with words.” she chuckled, “Even in Khehora. It just ent me thing.” She stretched her hindquarters patiently before padding up to Avani.

“So this hard part.” she drawled, “Which is it? Catchin' im? I did that, what, three times? It ain't so hard. Or did ye mean keepin' him caught?” Naita thought for a moment. “'cause that be hard, aye. Hard indeed.” She turned with them back towards the ranch. “See, with Cid, when I try to get 'im used to me, that be the hardest part – getting' im to stay. I can catch 'im, even when he runs off, but... aye. He just gets so scared.” she glanced at Avani, “Any advice on that? I mean, I don' think I'm that threatening with 'im, but I can't read his lil' mind, so I've no idea...”

Training retry cause something went derp and I rolled a 0 sided die... Idek ... Also, with this taming done, do you mind if we lead into one with cid?

"'Subtle'." Avani said smiling. She walked, feeling the nose of the hastar bump into her from time to time and said, "It is a kind of magic, one that has power, yet doesn't use any." She smiled remembering her father and grandmother, even her mother, teaching her to respect living things no matter what they were. "If you give a living thing tender care, love and respect, you are sure to help it grow to like you and grow big and strong. It's something I've learned by tending plants and animals my whole life."

She felt the hastar nuzzle her back in a demanding, yet gentle way, so Avani stopped and gave it another piece of fruit and rubbed it's nose as it chewed.

"You don't have to use words to get across your point." she smiled at her friend and then went and petted Naita's nose, rubbing it in a manner that both Criani and Honoka seemed to like. "You are a good khehora. A bit rough, but able to hold your own. I wouldn't mind having around."

As they continued their way home, Avani considered Naita's request.

"I will be glad to give you a few pointers about Cid, my parents raise leklans, so I know a lot about them." Avani smiled as the hastar nudged his nose beneath her hand, "First, since Cid is the only one you have at the moment, you should at least keep him clean. A bath, or nice dunk in a lake would help, and also a hair cut now and then. I mean, how would you feel if you had dung and dirt and blood all over you for a few months at a time?"

    User Image

Avani led the Hastar into the small paddock that was a part of her barn and was on the edge of the forest. The hastar nudged her pocket from inside the fence and Avani gave him a piece of fruit, placing the taming gem next to him. The glow from it was fading, it' power almost spent.

"Be good my dear, and I will come and clean you up before we get to work getting you used to being ridden." Avani opened the barn door and got some feed out from the storage bin. She placed it in one trough, and then went to the well on the other side of her house and got a bucket of water for the other one. A few bucket fulls later, the trough was full and so was a tub of soapy water. "Let's get some of the dust off of you."

Munching on the feed which was a mixture of dried fruits and grains, Avani wiped down all the damage from the fights Avani had caused when trying to tame him.

After dumping a bucket of water over him to wash out his mane. He looked up and shook his head. Avani laughed as she put her hands up to shield herself from the water droplets. As she toweled him off, he nuzzled her more, and then went into the barn and into the hey. He laid down and soon was asleep.

Avani smiled and sat on the railing.

She turned to Naita and then said, "Since I have the tub of suds out, why don't you try to give Cid a bath? Even though I just gave him one, I think having you do it will make him trust you more."

On to the next one, lol.

“A kind of magic? I'm not getting ya. Magic uses power – all magic uses power...” Naita watched Avani, willing the Orderite to give her a more sensible answer. How could magic be used without using something else up? That was the point of magic – it was powered by something, either by something in oneself or outside of oneself. Even something as mundane as swimming (which Naita was quite good at) took energy, energy needed to be restored with food, and that food came from something and took energy to create, as well. Where the energy came from in the first place was beyond Naita's comprehension, but it was still there, passed up and up and up and then used. So what did Avani mean by a magic that had power and didnt use power? The rest of her answer made something like sense, though, and Naita tried to puzzle it out.

“So you're saying... what? If I give something food and snuggle 'em kindly and coo over 'em, they'll grow big and strong?” Naita asked, perplexed. This was something that, she felt, needed a little more time and puzzling to make sense in her head. She made a face as Avani pet her, though she did not move away or do worse to the errant hand. “Thank ye kindly.” she said, “No one's ever called me good before.” it was a quip, but it was also true enough, “Or offered to let me stay extra and eat all their food.” she grinned. Avani did have good food, and good lodgings, and it was nice here. Nice enough, anyway.

And, it seemed, a place where she could solve her little leklan problem once and for all. “Oh good. Aye, if anybody can soothe that little” fluffy “beast, it would be you. 's why I'm asking you, ac'ause I be at me wits end. I don't want to hurt the little bugger, ye know?” She followed Avani, letting her tail swish gently from side to side with her movements. She agreed with Avani's conjecture – a bath would be good for Cid – It'd keep his fluff soft and lovely smelling and white. She, personally, preferred swimming over actually bathing, but she understood the point. However...

“It's a wee bit hard t' carry 'im around without hurting him, 'specially if he's struggling at me.” she commented, “An' he'd be struggling more in the water, wouldn't he? If I were a Peisio, I could just splash 'im with water and it'd be easy. But I'm Firani, an' I don't be wanting to toast 'im.” she chuckled, “Aye, that be the exact opposite of what I be wanting.”

She waited nearby as Avani got the new hastar settled, watching with interest. If she had a bucket, she could at least wash her leklan without touching him with her claws. “Mm?” she looked up as she was called. “Oh. Sure. Lets give it a try.” she said, grinning eagerly.

It seemed that, today at least, Cid would get his bath.
