Striaton city is the third city in the Unova region and is home to the first gym. It sits adjacent to the Dreamyard, where strange things are said to happen with the rising of the moon. The smell of the sea filters through the woods to the northwest, a sign that the ocean is close by.

After a rather uneventful walk, save for Sable having to get used to the fact that she now had a Zorua for a travel companion, the teen and her Pokemon arrived at Striaton City. Looking around for a moment to take in the sights of the city, she quickly turned her head in Jin's direction when she heard a sharp growl come from where he was. The dark-haired male gave her an embarrassed-looking smile as the growl could be heard again, then chuckled sheepishly. Sable gave a light sigh and shook her head."You know, you could have said something earlier."
Jin gave the teen a sheepish smile as he rubbed the back of his head, chuckling some more."Yeah... I guess I didn't think about it... Ah well, it's almost lunchtime anyway~"Jin took on a much more cheery grin, then looked around a bit."There's gotta be somewhere in this city that we can grab a bite at. Come on, I'm betting you're a bit peckish after that walk, aren't you sis?"Almost as soon as he was finished talking, the black-haired teen looked around a bit more before walking off towards somewhere.
"I told you, don't- H-hey! Wait up!"the teen had started to scold her partner, but quickly had to chase after the disguised Zorua to avoid losing sight of him. Every so often, the dark-haired male would stop, look around while sniffing a bit, and then start walking again. At least, until a certain point, at which he ran off, leaving Sable with few other alternatives than to run off after him. Meanwhile, the teen's Snivy was stuck just hanging on to her shoulders and tolerating the ride.
Eventually, the dark-haired male slid to a stop in front of one of the buildings in the city and had a grin on his face as he waited for his trainer to catch up to him."Here! Let's get something in here, sis!"Jin called out as he waved the out of breath trainer over. He laughed a bit from seeing that the little run had worn her out, although he got rather quiet when she started coughing.
After a moment, Sable motioned with her hand as if to shoo Jin away, and the brief coughing fit subsided."I'm fine... Just need to avoid... Running that much for a while,"she assured the disguised Zorua after clearing her throat, then straightened up and looked at the building the duo stopped at. Just based on the exterior of the building, it looked like it'd be expensive to eat at, and this made the teen have a rather uncertain look on her face."...I dunno... Looks a bit too high-class for my budget right now..."
Jin chuckled a bit and lightly put a hand on his trainer's shoulder while trying to guide her closer to the building."Aw, don't worry about that. We'll just book a spot close to the entrance, and order something cheap. A couple of sandwiches and some soup, plus a drink. That's all,"he assured the teen as the two moved closer to the building, then grinned."Besides. This way we'll get a sneak peak of what you can expect for a gym battle."
Sable had been somewhat uncertain as she moved towards the restaurant with Jin, but the sneak peak he mentioned made the teen raise an eyebrow."What's that supposed to mean?"she asked bluntly, getting a laugh from Jin in return."It means exactly what I said. So come on!"With that, the dark-haired teen stopped with the gentle guiding and was outright shoving his trainer through the doors of the restaurant.

Sable looked rather uncomfortable as she was pushed into the restaurant, although Jin didn't seem to notice. The disguised Zorua had a cheery grin as he entered the building right behind his trainer, giving the woman at the counter a wave as he pulled Sable over to where they should wait to be seated. From the looks of things, there were already quite a few people in the building, but most of them were sitting towards the back of the restaurant for some reason.
It didn't take long for one of the people working at the restaurant to come over and escort the duo to a table, and soon enough the two were looking over the various items on the menu with Sable's Snivy peering over her shoulder. From the looks of things, Jin had been right about there being some affordable options, so when the time came to make their order, they got a couple of sandwiches, some soup, some drinks, and some food for the rest of Sable's team. It still cost quite a bit to feed everyone, but not as much as it would have if all the prices were as high as the teen expected them to be.
As the duo waited for their order, Sable heard some sort of commotion coming from the entrance. It seemed some trainer had barged in... Looking for a gym battle? The scene seemed rather odd to the teen, but the various people working at the restaurant acted like this sort of thing happened every day and simply asked what type of Pokemon the child had as their starter. Apparently they had also started with a Snivy, so one of the waiters - one with oddly-styled red hair - escorted the girl making the challenge to the back of the building. As he did so, an area opened up, revealing a fair-sized battlefield.
Sable blinked a few times in surprised, then turned to look at Jin."Wait... I thought this place was a restaurant,"she said questioningly, to which the black-haired teen nodded and smirked."It is. But it's also Striaton's gym. Those three-"he started to explain, pointing at three of the waiters. All three had odd-looking hair styles, but one had green hair, another's was dark blue, and the third one was the waiter with red hair that was leading the challenger to the arena in the back of the restaurant."-are the gym leaders. They use pretty similar teams, a Lillipup and an elemental monkey, but each one uses a different element. Greenie uses a Pansage, bluie uses a Panpour, and red over there uses a Pansear."
Sable nodded as Jin explained, then looked back at the battlefield."So, what, you face the one with the monkey that has a type advantage against your starter? So I'll be facing the guy with red hair when I challenge this place?"she asked, then looked back at Jin in time to see him nodding."Yep, and that'd put you at a disadvantage. We might want to look at starting in a different region for now, at least until you've got something to take care of that guy's fire type."

It didn't take much longer after that explanation for the group's food to arrive. Sable paid some attention to the battle going on at the back of the building, mostly to keep in mind what sort of attacks she'd have to expect when she was ready to make her attempt, but for the most part she focused on keeping things calm as she let out the rest of her team. At least with the food and water in front of them, the teen's Eevee and Purrloin were more willing to stay out of trouble for the time being.
With everyone's lunch finished and it being time to get a move on, the teen recalled everyone except for Jin - as it'd be weird to have a human sucked into a Pokeball - and her Eevee."Ah, give me a sec. You paid for the food, so I'll get this part,"Jin said as he stood up, then rummaged around in his pockets before pulling out a few bills and leaving them on the table. Sable raised an eyebrow, mostly because she didn't remember seeing any money on the disguised Zorua when he had reverted back to his normal form.
"Jin? Where did-"the teen started to ask the dark-haired male, but ended up getting tugged out by him before she could finish her question. Her Eevee gave a few yips as he followed along, and Jin, knowing full well what the bundle of fluff was saying, chuckled as he made his way out of the building. Once outside, he looked around a moment before sighing."Let's just say that guy you fought earlier had lost some money before you faced him,"he gave as an answer to what he thought was her question, then chuckled a bit more.
Sable pursed her lips some and shook her head."I don't mind that. I'm just wondering where you keep it. I mean, I didn't see anything when you popped back into a Zorua, so you've got to have it tucked somewhere,"she said, making Jin blink several times in surprise. To be honest... The Zorua hadn't thought too hard about that part, and wasn't sure he wanted to. After a moment, he shrugged with a smirk."Eh, no clue. I just know it's there when I change into this look, and when I look like other humans. That's... A lot more than enough for me."
Sable wasn't entirely satisfied with that answer, but she shrugged and looked around."Right... So, back to Accumula and Nuvema? Then catch a train to somewhere else?"she asked as she started walking back towards the entrance she came in through. The fact that she was leaving not too long after arriving in the region bugged the teen a bit, but she needed to prepare if she was going to be facing that redhead. Jin gave a grin as he followed along beside his trainer, having to keep his tail tucked up his jacket so that its wagging didn't give him away.

Kraven listened with her hands behind her head as Phoenix told her why she was traveling. She gave a couple reasons, one being wanting to see the world and seeing what it had to offer. The ebon-haired trainer sympathized with the lack of a specific goal, since she'd more or less left for the same reason. Though, when she expressed the hope that she'd find some direction on her journey, she chimed in again. "I'm sure you will," she reassured her companion. "The world's a big place, I think it'd be quite a feat not to find something you want to do when you explore it."
But the conversation soon shifted back to Kraven, and she let one of her hands drop to her side, scratching with her head with the other. She was a little embarrassed to admit, but she lacked any long term goal as well. "Well, honestly, I don't know. You'd think after all the people I met who were passing through Lumiose I'd have some an idea of what to become, but honestly I'm a little stumped." As they finally reached their destination, Kraven looked up thoughtfully. The hand at her side retreated into her pocket, and the other rested against her chin, her index finger outstretched and just under her nose as she tilted her head back. "...But, if nothing else," She spoke up, moving her head away as she finished her thought, "I think I'd like to become a Ranger at some point. I heard they recently started recruiting again, so I might go check that out."
Hazel cringed a little bit at the mention of the Alpha of her coven, rubbing her temple. "Ugh, well, to be honest we were having a little bit of trouble on just who was going to be the Alpha. We've only had one for a short time, but not that long ago another Grimarcane decided he wanted to be the leader. The current Alpha is pretty strong, but the challenger is probably just as much so. He had a different coloration like me; but instead of a silver coat, his was black, his fur was this super deep blue, and his eyes where a creepy red. A few other Magikits have left in fear of what'd happen if they actually squared off, so I don't think anyone will really notice my disappearance." In truth, even Hazel was a little worried about who might get caught in the crossfire when she was there. The onyx Grimarcane didn't seem like the type to hold back, and just the memory of the aura his presence emitted sent a shiver down the little witch's spine.
Meanwhile, while the trainers and the witches conversed, Gungnir turned his attention to the other Oshawott, curious on how Hanaka's training had gone. It seemed to go fine, but she wasn't quite up to the level he was at now. "Yeah, well," the blue otter shut his eyes lazily, rubbing the back of his head, "it's not that bad. Ya just need a little more time is all." However, they were soon interrupted by the Houndoom among them, who practically barked at Hanaka for talking to him, which only frightened her behind the Zoroark.
The hell hound then turned her attention to Gungnir, which, appearance-wise, didn't phase him. His expression stayed a disinterested deadpan, but in underneath, the Houndoom annoyed him. His cheeks bulged slightly as they filled with water, but stopped as the hound was cut off by a swift stick to the face. The strike hat cut both of them off guard, and the blue otter watched as the Braxien effectively warded off Victoria. He swallowed the water he'd been building up back down, and then turned to Klaus as he spoke up as well. "Yeah, I think so. I don't really feel that much stronger, but I mean Hydro Cannon doesn't quite send me flying into the nearest wall anymore, so that's something."

When her feet met with stone walkways, Shiva took a moment to stop and admire Striaton from a foreigners point of view. It was a beautiful city, certainly nothing to be sneezed at. What she was more interested in was the Gym however, heading straight there was her top priority. Thing is.. navigating Striaton was far more difficult then one would imagine, and it wasn't long before the young teen had gotten lost. Hugging Kuval she kept a smile on her face, wavering, but it was there. "Umm.... Maybe we should ask for directions?" She asked, more or less to herself then to Kuval. The Oshawott simply shrugged. "Alright... we just need to get back to the main street.., right? Yea. Right." Biting her lip for a moment she pressed on. Turning down a narrow alleyway, Shiva was startled into stopping with a young boy, about her age rushed from an open door, tossing a towel to the ground and stomping on it, as if the towel had insulted him or something.... he was obviously angry, but Shiva was intent on going the way she'd been going, though now the path was blocked. A strange bit of nervousness encroached on her as she looked around awkwardly, not wanting to draw attention to herself. "Don't run out on me, boy!" Shouted someone from inside. A man, who's head just barely bumped the top of the 7' door stepped out, his arms folded. It didn't take long for the man to notice Shiva. She attempted to clear her throat and smile, but... that man was kind of intimidating. The 'boy' in this case turned towards where the older man was looking and arched a brow. He seemingly ignored Shiva as he quickly grabbed his towel and headed back inside, pushing past the man in his frustration. The man almost went to grab the boy, but decided not to, instead turning to look back at Shiva for a moment before heading back inside. How awkward. Whatever the case, the path was open, so she made her way through the alley. Luckily her sense of direction kicked in and she found herself back out on the city's main street.. the only problem was, she was standing by a different exit to the city. "Well.." With a sigh Shiva found herself shaking her head, a large grin over her lips.

It was better to admit when things were hopeless, which was hard for Shiva, believe you me, she's a stubborn one. Stopping a the nearby cafe she asked for directions finding herself rather flustered to find out there were two main roads in Striaton, both of which pass right by the gym. She however, was sort of... fooled by the fliers only showing the inside of the gym, not the outside. "It really is a normal cafe from outside..." She stated with a sigh. "Alright, let's go inside." Marching herself inside, she was greeted by a young woman dressed in a waitress uniform. "Good evening, can I help you with something? Are you here for a batlle or just to watch?" Well, there was no way in the distortion world she was going to manage to battle a gym leader. "Watch." Shiva replied. The girl offered an apologetic look. "I"m sorry, but... there are no challengers at this-" She was cut off when someone burst into the doorway. Shiva turned finding a very familar and unwelcome face. Sucking in her breath she quickly calmed herself before she lashed out at the foul mouthed trainer. "I"m here for a rematch Cilan!" She shouted. Shiva caught the woman waitress sighing before stepping forward. "I'm sorry, but Cilan stepped out a momen-" "Then go find him!" The girl snapped. What was her issue? A bruised ego maybe? She did say rematch. Right... so Cilan was out for awhile, that meant... there was time, she'd go and train up Sheena and show that brat what it's like to treat Pokemon with respect. "After all, I think I'm going out to train instead. I would like a match with Cilan too, when he returns." Bowing with respect, Shiva turned and walked away, catching a glare from the woman. 'I'll show you... you...' Huffing to her ow thoughts, Shiva stepped out of the cafe and into Striaton once more, heading west towards the direction she'd regained her barrings from.

There was a fire burning in Shiva's heart. She was eager to get some training in before Cilan returned so she could show up that evil little witch. It wasn't often that Shiva had bad thoughts about people, but this girl was just plain rude and she needed to be brought back to a kinder reality. Of course Shiva also wondered what had made the girl that way... and perhaps if she did show her a better... gentler way to raise Pokemon, maybe they could end up being friends? It would be wonderful actually... under that hard, cold exterior, Shiva sensed a really fun person. Shiva normally wasn't a bad judge in character. Before she knew it, she'd ended up at the mouth of a cave. Stopping in her tracks, Shiva peered inside. It was nearly pitch black in there. Once inside she was sure her eyes would adjust after being in there for awhile. Whatever the case it was time to train. "Alright Kuval, let's do this!"

☆ ☆【Phoenix’s eyes remained on the path ahead as she spoke to Kraven about her goals, occasionally peering towards her ebon-haired companion out of her peripheral vision. She admitted that she really had nothing else planned apart from her dreams of traveling the world, but hoped that by journeying with Pokemon she would be able to find some sort of direction that would hopefully lead her on the right path. She gave a small smile as Kraven expressed her reassurance, saying that the world was a big place and that it would be a feat if she couldn’t find anything that she wanted to do during her explorations. ” Ah… That is true, and I truly do hope to find something out there,” Phoenix agreed with a nod, a slight frown crossing her face, ” It’s just that there aren’t really a lot of things out there that I don’t wish to be… But I will keep my eyes and my options open… They do say that there are plenty of opportunities out there, you just need to look for them.” With that said, she then reciprocated the question towards Kraven, wondering if maybe her companion had much more noble or interesting goals she wished to achieve. Of course, she had a feeling that it wouldn’t quite be the case as she saw Kraven drop one arm to her side while the other scratched the back of her head in a sheepish manner. She spoke up once more, admitting that she didn’t know, remarking that surely she would have something in mind after having met so many travelers and tourists in Lumiose but she was truly stumped. Phoenix gave a small sympathetic smile, her eyes roaming momentarily towards the path as they reached Striation before shifting back to Kraven. She concluded that if nothing else, she would like to become a Pokemon Ranger at some point in time, since there was news that they had started recruiting again in recent times. Phoenix’s eyes lit up at the thought, her smile growing a bit wider. ” A Pokemon Ranger, hm?” she mused softly with a nod, ” I’ll admit that I’ve always held some degree of respect and appreciation towards the Rangers and what they do to help Pokemon whenever they are needed… I have no doubts that you’d be an excellent Ranger, Kraven, if you do intend to take up that career path.” Reaching a hand out, Phoenix hesitated for a few seconds, looking a bit unsure if she should follow through with her intended gesture. Pushing back her reclusive instincts, she carefully rested her hand on the ebon-haired girl’s shoulders. ” Who knows, maybe you’ll be able to become one of the best Rangers in the school in no time,” she offered with a nod and a warm smile, allowing only a few seconds of contact before she quickly withdrew her hand back to her side, ” Maybe we can pay a visit to the Ranger School at the nearest train station once we both get our first badges… There was one back in Nuvema, and there’s another a little ways away in Castelia City if you’d prefer not to backtrack...” Hekate noticed the way Hazel cringed when she asked about her coven’s Alpha, a look of concern crossing her face for a brief moment or two. She listened quietly as the silver Magikit explained the situation involving her coven before she had been captured. Hazel said that they had been having trouble recently deciding on who the Alpha would be, and that they’d only had one for a short time but recently another Grimarcane had stepped up to challenge the current Alpha for the position. The current Alpha was pretty strong, Hekate had figured that much considering that only the strongest were worthy of the position, but so was the challenging subordinate who wished to commandeer authority from the Alpha. The description of the challenging Grimarcane couldn’t help but send chills down Hekate’s spine, a male with a coat of ebony, very dark blue fur, and red eyes that were clearly not a common trait among most members of their species.” Yeesh, I haven’t even met this guy and I’m already a bit on edge just from that detailed description…”she said mostly to herself, but otherwise kept listening as Hazel went on. She said that she and a few other Magikits in the coven had fled out of fear of what could happen if the Alpha and the challenging Grimarcane actually did fight, and surely no one would even notice her appearance. ” Well, knowing how brutal those kinds of fights can be, I think that getting outta there while ya had the chance was the best thing to do in that kind of situation. I haven’t been in an actual coven myself, but that’s what I would’ve done too if I’d been in your position,”Hekate remarked with a slow nod, wondering if perhaps that onyx Grimarcane had actually fought the Alpha by now,” How long’s that strange Grimarcane been hanging around in your coven anyways? Sounds like he could’ve possibly been a loner at some point in time…”Lone Grimarcane in the wild were certainly rare to come across, but they weren’t entirely unheard of either. And if she was reading what information Hazel had given her correctly, it sounded like the other Magikit hadn’t known much about the strange onyx Grimarcane that was intent on becoming the new Alpha. He certainly sounded like he could be the outsider type, but Hekate didn’t want to jump to conclusions too quickly, especially since she hadn’t exactly seen this bizarre male Grimarcane in the flesh either. While the others conversed amongst themselves, Hanaka shared the details of her training with Gungnir when he asked how things had gone on their end. Still, she couldn’t help but fiddle with her scalchop nervously, feeling less than up to par compared to the other Oshawott. She gave a small smile as he assured her in his own way that it wasn’t that bad and that she just needed a bit more time. Hanaka was about to say something back to him, but was cut off when Victoria interjected and scolded her for talking to Gungnir. Frightened by the Houndoom’s presence and barking tone, Hanaka immediately took shelter behind Klaus, knowing that he would be her safety barrier between herself and the beast. Fianna narrowed her eyes as Victoria turned on Gungnir, noticing the Oshawott’s cheeks starting to swell up, undoubtedly with water in preparation for an attack against the imposing Houndoom. Deciding to intervene before things got too out of control, the Braixen stepped in and gave Victoria a good whack on the muzzle with her stick, effectively catching them both off guard. After warding off Victoria, Fianna seemed pleased as she gave a small smile towards Gungnir as he swallowed the water he’d been building up back down. Sometimes that damnable dog was more trouble than she was worth, they certainly didn’t need to go about making enemies out of their recently acquired friends. Klaus gladly shifted the subject back to their discussion, listening as Gungnir said that he didn’t really feel that much stronger, though Hydro Cannon didn’t exactly send him flying into the nearest obstacle anymore.” Oh my… Hydro Cannon? That’s certainly quite a powerful move for you to be handling so soon, isn’t it?”Klaus inquired, a look of concern crossing his face for a moment before he chuckled and nodded,” Ah, but all the same, it’s good that you’re starting to learn the ropes to be able to control it better~ I’ll admit I’ve had pretty similar experiences myself… Considering that I evolved much earlier than my kind normally do, it took a good long while for me to get used to handling powerful attacks that I could only access as a Zoroark.”Klaus had evolved rather prematurely from a Zorua into a Zoroark, primarily out of his need and desire to protect Phoenix however he could. Of course, premature evolution could potentially be dangerous, and needless to say Klaus had been utterly unprepared to handle the sheer strength and attacking capabilities that had been so suddenly thrust into his hands as a Zoroark. He certainly had much better control over them now as opposed to back then, but he had made more mistakes than he cared to admit in the time it took for him to acclimate and be able to rein in his power enough to not cause wanton chaos whenever he used them.】☆ ☆

Kraven nodded at Phoenix's reassurance, turning her head to the girl as she placed a hand on her shoulder. "Thanks, I think so too." The ebon-haired girl tried to think of the town the redhead spoke about, trying to remember it's placement on the map. "Castelia, Castelia... That's...two towns away from here, right? I'd rather keep moving forward so let's take the train from there." Kraven finally stopped in the middle of Striaton, looking around for the gym. Her eyes locked on the three-story building with what she assumed was this region's gym marker... if that was the right word. "...That's the gym, right?" She pointed at the gym. "It looks like a cafe."
"Honestly? I'm... not entirely sure." Hazel tilted her head to the side, trying to remember some of the earlier events with the ebony-clad Grimarcane. "If memory serves, he was still a Magikit until not that long ago, but I think we picked him up about a month or two ago. I never got his story, and he never really seemed to hang around the camp. He just sort of... showed up, whenever it was time to hunt. So he kept to himself for the most part, and anyone hunting with him would never really talked about it. Then... there was that whole deal when he evolved."
Another chill ran down her spine, pulling her hat back a little off her face. She wasn't exactly grimacing but she clearly wasn't enjoying the recollection. "He pretty much came back one day from a hunting group... without the rest of the group. He was evolved and just said they're 'not coming back'. You can imagine the... 'rumors', that quickly spawned, but he didn't exactly support it. After that it's pretty easy to see where it progressed from there. He may not have been an outsider to the group, but he more or less felt like it to the rest of us."
"Yeah, it is," Gungnir's tone got a little more of a temper to it, though it wasn't directed at Klaus. "Sent me flying into a tree the first time! Still sends me back like, ten or fifteen feet back. I'm pretty sure I could even fly with the sheer force of the water." The blue otter let out a heavy sigh, calming down. Of course, that really didn't show on his face, his stoned expression as lax as ever. One eye's lid rose a bit though as Klaus spoke of his premature evolution. "Hm... Well, somehow I feel your predicament was far more jarring than mine. I assume your power came in response to a need, mine was just kinda... given to me." The Oshawott fiddled with the scallop on his chest. Admittedly he wasn't sure how a pokemon could evolve earlier than they're supposed to, but all things considered, it probably had something to do with the bond with their trainer. Or at least, that's how he figured it was here.

As she brought up the places where they would be able to catch a train to the school, Kraven seemed more interested in Castelia, asking if it was the one that was two towns over. ” Y-Yes… It’s the big city we’ll be heading to after Nacrene from here,” Phoenix confirmed, nodding at Kraven’s comment that they’d go to the one there instead of backtracking to Nuvema, ” Of course… Understandable, though there may be a bit more of a delay if we plan to get the second badge from Lenora on our way through.” Unova differed quite a bit from most other regions, since it had its first three Gyms all within the first three major towns and cities without any intermediate areas in between. At least, that was how it worked according to what Phoenix knew, but there was no exact way to say about the other regions outside of Unova. They came to a stop in the center of the city, Phoenix glancing up towards the three story building that was Striation’s Gym, bearing on it the marker that acted as the official label for the Gyms of Unova. The silver Magikit admitted that she didn’t know exactly how long he had been a part of the coven, though he had still been a Magikit when they had integrated him a few months ago. Hazel mentioned that she didn’t know very much about him, especially since the onyx Magikit was a very reclusive individual, staying away from camp and only appearing when hunting parties were arranged. Of course, no one he hunted with said anything concerning him, but then something happened when he finally evolved into a Grimarcane himself. Hekate frowned, she was already getting a bad feeling just from listening, and from the looks of it Hazel wasn’t exactly too fond of recollecting the event either. She listened as the silver Magikit continued, explaining how the onyx Magikit had returned from a hunt one day, having evolved and without the rest of his group, and told the others that they ‘weren’t coming back’. Of course, that would easily spawn several rumors, and Hekate felt certain that either the rest of that particular hunting party had either run off or had been killed… She nodded slowly as Hazel finished with her explanation, a grim look on her face.” So he was a loner then? Well that might explain most of it… Loners being integrated in covens can either be a benefit or a problem, they can potentially be dangerous from what I understand,”Hekate said, her eyes seeming distant with thought. If Hazel’s account was any indication, it was clear that the onyx Grimarcane was more or less bad news. What if he had actually killed the others he had gone on that hunting foray with? Arceus… Hekate couldn’t help but feel glad that she had never had the displeasure of knowing any Magikit or Grimarcane like that, and at the same time she felt sympathy for Hazel for having to endure that whole ordeal. ” In any case, I can understand that being caught by a trainer and all that wasn’t exactly what you were expecting to happen. I feel the same way too, to be honest,”she then spoke up, hoping to change the subject and maybe try to inject some optimism into the situation,” But at least it’s not as bad as it could be, right? What do ya think of your new trainer so far… Kraven, right?”Hekate had figured that was the other girl’s name, considering that Phoenix had been calling out for her when they’d met back up in Accumula. Klaus listened as Gungnir spoke up, the Oshawott agreeing with the fact that Hydro Cannon was a very strong attack for him to learn so soon. He frowned slightly when he noticed the tone of frustration and mild annoyance in Gungnir’s voice, though it appeared to be directed more at his lack of control for the attack than at the Zoroark himself. Apparently the first time he had used Hydro Cannon, it had sent him flying back into a tree, and even then it still pushed him about ten to fifteen feet back, probably with enough force to even enable him to fly for short period of time. A look of sympathy crossed Klaus’s face as Gungnir calmed down, even though the lax expression on his face didn’t change a bit despite his earlier frustration. The Zoroark knew all too well the feeling of trying to control power that was more or less out of one’s league, having faced similar problems when he had evolved prematurely from a Zorua in order to play a guardian role for Phoenix. He noticed the Oshawott raise an eyelid in response, saying that he believed Klaus’s predicament had been much more jarring than his, and that he assumed his came in response to a need while his was simply given to him.” Well, you certainly aren’t wrong with that assumption, Gungnir,”the Zoroark said with a soft sigh, a slight frown crossing his usually cheerful visage,” Admittedly, I do still have troubles with controlling my attacks every now and then, but it’s certainly far less chaotic than when I had first evolved… Premature evolution is indeed a very jarring experience, and certainly not one that I would want anyone else to go through unless that desire truly needs to be fulfilled. As Phoenix confirmed the placement of Castelia on the map, Kraven rubbed her chin for a moment to think. "Hm... Well, we'll see how this gym goes and go from there. If I think I'm taking too long we can just run on ahead." She proposed. The ebon-haired girl did want to get a little more experience under her belt before she applied, but at the same time she wasn't quite sure how impatient she'd get over the prospect. Baby steps, she guessed.
As the two of them made their way into town, Kraven locked her eyes on the slightly rustic café with the Unova League symbol outside of it. Admittedly, Kalos had just as unique locations for their gyms, but she couldn't help but ask. She was rather amazed when Phoenix informed her this wasn't a isolated thing either, and that the next town's gym doubled(tripled?) as both a museum and library. "Oh, wow, wasn't expecting that. I'm pretty sure the only Kalos gyms that aren't those brown-roofed buildings are just in caves and one in Prism Tower. The more you know I guess." Kraven chuckled a bit. "Well, either way, I'm feeling pretty confident about this, so I think I'll go ahead and challenge the leaders here. If you want you can go train while I take care of that, I'll just text you when I'm done." The ebon-haired girl took one hand off of Hazel as she straightened her back, then used it to pop her knuckles, followed by some more in her neck. Her own little ritual before getting serious.
At the same time, Hazel spoke with Hekate about her coven and the onyx Grimarcane that sought to become the Alpha. She went on to explain the events she could recall that involved him, and the circumstances that surrounded his evolution, which grew grim towards the end. And all things considered, it probably wouldn't have gotten any prettier if the current Alpha decided to fight for his position. The thought of such a clash sent something of a chill down the little witch's spine, but soon sighed as the conversation turned back to her trainer.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. It's better than staying with the group and watching the chaos ensue. As for Kraven..." The Magikit looked up at her trainer, watching as she went through her little pre-gym ritual. "...She's not a bad person, at least. I dunno how sharp she is, but if nothing else I think it'll be kinda fun being in her crew."
At the same time of the other two conversations, Gungnir conversed with Hanaka and Klaus. The blue otter admittedly didn't know what really enabled premature evolutions, but he followed the Zoroark's explanation anyway. Though, his lazy expression shifted ever so slightly to one with some worry, but it soon faded back into his earlier one. His gaze shifted to Hanaka with Klaus' but he turned back to the large fox before him. "...Well, just try not to force too much strain on yourself. It won't do either of you any good to be out of commission when Red truly needs protecting." The Oshawott moved his eyes across the other pokemon out as he finished. Even if Klaus broke down eventually, there were others who could take the torch for him. He doubted he needed the warning, but he couldn't help but give it. He started leaning on Kraven's leg again, hoping to get a lift and not have to walk the rest of the way.

Kraven nodded to Pheonix confidently. "Thanks. See ya when I'm finished here." She moved the arm that held Hazel up a ways, loosening her grip so the Magikit could climb up to her shoulder. Then she picked up Gungnir, and let Torch climb up her back and onto the other free shoulder. With the pokemon she'd intended to use all in tow, the ebon-haired trainer broke away from her companion, as they each went to their own destinations.
As she opened the door to the cafe, she was greeted by a woman behind a desk. "Hello miss, is this your first time here?" The brunette asked.
"Uh, yeah. I'm here for to challenge the gym leaders." Kraven responded. She wasn't quite sure what the protocol was for asking for a fight. She'd just kinda assumed it was walk in, make the challenge, and fight, but she wasn't sure if she needed to do something else with this one. Like, buy something or another.
But the woman behind the counter soon spoke up to answer her. "Ah, I see. Just continue through to the back, they'll be behind the green curtains."
"Ah, thanks." The ebon-haired trainer walked further into the cafe, glancing around at the tables whenever she noticed a patron, not that she saw anyone that really caught her attention. As she passed through the thick green cloth that separated the final portion of the building from the rest, the three gym leaders stood at the back, on a raised platform. As she approached the stairs, they addressed her.
"Hello there!" The Cilan exclaimed. "Are you here as a patron or as a challenger?"
"Challenger." A confident grin spread across Kraven's face, ready to fight. "Gungnir here is my starter, so I fight... Chile was it?"
"It's Cilan. But let's go ahead and get this underway." The gym leader reached for one of the pokeballs behind him, and out popped a cute little pooch. Since it wasn't a grass type, Kraven figured it'd be safe to put Gungnir out first, his Hydro Cannon sure to deal plenty of damage.
She put the little Oshawott down, and he waddled forward to battle. Cilan's pokemon was faster, but Oshawott had more power. The Bite took off about half of Gungnir's health, but as the Lillipup tried to raise his jaw, the little otter was already preparing his counter. "Hydro Cannon!" Kraven exclaimed, and only too late did the gym leader and the Lillipup realize what was about to happen. A torrent of water erupted from Gungnir's open maw, sending the little pup flying past his trainer.
Both trainers brought their pokemon back, and Kraven sent her Chimchar forward just before Cilan released his Pansage. "Pansage, Fury Swipes!" He exclaimed, and the green monkey launched at Torch with a flurry of strikes.
Kraven grimaced slightly. The damage that dealt was a little surprising, but they weren't going to lose that easily. "Torch, counter with Fire Punch!" The Chimchar nodded in response to the command, and reached one hand out to grab one of the arms that were coming at him. Once he got a hold of the Pansage, fire engulfed his free hand, and he only let go the moment before slamming his fist into the grass-type. Their foe stood up for a moment, but the flames were intense enough to leave burns, and they only got one more attack before soon succumbing to their wounds. Kraven blinked for a second, waiting to see if her opponent was going to send out another pokemon. But when there was nothing else, the ebon-haired girl could hardly contain her excitement. "YEAH! First win!" This was her first victory against a gym leader, and against another trainer in general, and to her, it went very well.
