Accumula Town is just North of Kanoko town and is the first town that trainers beginning their Unova journey will encounter. A fairly sizable town, surrounded on all sides by forest with only the South and North routes being clearly visible. There isn't much of note aside from the Battle Club, which is very similar to the one in Viridian City of the Kanto region.

The bickering between Sable's two Pokemon had come to a stop during the rest of the walk. Of course, the trainer was fairly certain that it would start up again if she tried to set down the Eevee, so the teen was still stuck carrying the bundle of fluff. This was starting to be a somewhat bad thing, as the creature's weight was starting to get to her. Not that he was all that heavy, but continuously holding something that weighed a little under twenty pounds for more than a few hours tended to wear one down a bit. At the very least, it was more than the teen was used to, and certainly something she'd have to work on at the rate things were going.
Starting to feel a bit worn out, Sable looked down at the Eevee she was carrying."Are you going to start fighting with Snivy again if I set you down?"the teen asked, also giving the oddly-colored Snivy a glance to let him know that the reverse of that question also applied to him. The Eevee looked down and thought for a moment, then had a cheery expression as he bunted Sable's chin and gave his tail a few light wags."I'm going to trust that that's a no, then."
After giving the Snivy another glance - and only receiving some rolled eyes as his response - the red-haired teen cautiously set down the Eevee. The small bundle of fur looked at the red and orange Snivy for a moment, then padded over to the other side of Sable and nuzzled the trainer's leg. In return, the grass type glanced at the Eevee before running out to, as he thought he was going to, lead the way to wherever the group was heading next. Amusingly enough, though, it soon became apparent that the oddly-colored Snivy's idea of which way the group should go was not the same as his trainer's view, as the teen veered off towards where she recalled the Pokemon center being.

After a while of walking on his own, the Snivy eventually realized that he didn't hear any footsteps nearby. Looking around, the grass snake didn't see either his trainer or the Eevee anywhere. This shocked the Pokemon quite a bit, mostly because Accumula wasn't exactly a large town. For the oddly-colored grass type to lose her this easily... Well, coupled with how the teen had been holding that ball of fur for most of the trip up to the town, it seemed rather obvious to the Snivy what the most plausible explanation was.
A bit stunned by the turn his thoughts had taken, the grass pokemon stood where he was for a few moments before quickly shaking his head."Bah! It figures that broad would ditch me when she got the chance!"the small Pokemon shouted, although passerby would only hear it repeating part of its name multiple times in an angry tone. Out of irritation at apparently being abandoned, the grass type ran off deeper into the town to either find where the girl that still held his ball had gone or find an exit, whichever came first.
Meanwhile, Sable was still making her way through the town in an attempt to locate the Pokemon center she had passed by earlier in the day. She hadn't noticed that her Snivy had turned down a different path, mostly because she was still focused on trying to find her way around. The Eevee was mostly concentrating on earning his new trainer's favor by being cute and affectionate, and also didn't notice that he was missing a source of annoyance.
Soon enough, the building that housed the town's Pokemon center and market came into view. With what could only be described with a smirk on his face, the Eevee turned to where he thought the Snivy would be."Better get ready, snake boy. Looks like-"the normal type began, then stopped when he saw that the grass type wasn't where he thought he'd be."Huh?"
Looking around now, the Eevee saw that the Snivy was nowhere to be found. Normally, this would have been a relief to the normal type, but there was one tiny problem. He might not have liked the snake, but it was his trainer's first Pokemon, and she'd probably be at least irritated with the bundle of fluff if he didn't try to help find him. On the flip side, helping out without a fuss would probably cement his spot in the trainer's good books, which could come in handy later on.
After rolling his eyes because of what he was about to do, the Eevee tried calling up to his trainer."Vee! Vee! Vee!"he yipped as he jumped a bit, trying to get the teen's attention. Not getting more than a chuckle from the trainer - the teen probably thought that he was just excited that they were almost where they were heading - the normal type decided to try a different approach. He managed to time it so that he nipped the cuff on the leg of the girl's pants, then tugged as often as it took to get her to look down.
It didn't take more than a couple of tugs for the teen to see what was snagging her pant leg."Hey, what's all that about?"As she spoke, the teen looked down to see who was tugging at her. She quickly noticed that someone was missing from the little group, and immedately had a worried look on her face. It was a brief change in expression, though, as the teen tried to think rationally about how to approach the situation.
Right, right, this can't be that big of a town. Snivy can't have gotten too far. We'll probably have the best chance of seeing him if we go back the way we came.The thoughts rather quickly ran through the teen's head, and soon enough she was nodding before looking down at the Eevee."We should do a bit of backtracking. Hopefully he hasn't gone too far from wherever we split up at,"the teen explained before running back in the direction the two had been traveling from. The Eevee yipped in agreement before dashing off after her, not too keen on risking losing sight of her, too.
By about this time, Sable's Snivy had managed to get himself rather thouroughly lost, although he wasn't willing to admit it. Instead, he continued to pick directions at near-random, seeing fewer and fewer familiar surroundings as he continued his way through the town. It wasn't long before the serpent had reached a dead end in the form of a fenced-off area between the walls of a couple of houses. Of course, it took actually approaching the wooden fence and checking to see that there were no appropriately-sized holes that he could squeeze through for the Snivy to actually accept that he had made at least one wrong turn.
As the red and orange Snivy had finally determined that there was indeed no direct way past the fence and that he'd have to find a way around, he heard someone talking a ways behind him."So, what do we have here? A lost little starter that can't find his trainer?"the voice asked as its owner, a rather tough-looking Lillipup, approached the Snivy. The grass type turned and looked at the newcomer, then gritted his teeth (well, if he had any) as he glared at the Lillipup.
"Who asked you, mutt?!"the grass type snapped, then glanced around looking for the best way to leave the area. He just wanted to get back to looking for that teen, then he could grab his ball and do whatever he wanted. The Lillipup just chuckled at the Snivy's angry tone for a moment, then spoke again."Something wrong with being concerned for a fellow Pokemon? Although, with that tone, I'm guessing it's worse than whoever had you losing sight of you."
The Lillipup sniffed for a moment, then continued to speak as it padded up closer to the Snivy."I bet I know what happened, too. You got picked by some trainer, had a bit of fun with them, and then they caught some other Pokemon. After that, the kid ditched you the first chance they got, since they obviously just needed you to catch a better Pokemon."The small canine Pokemon chuckled a bit as it saw the Snivy lower its head and look at the ground for a moment.
The red and orange grass type was feeling pretty low at the moment. It was one thing to think you might have been abandoned by someone, but something different to have someone else actually claim it."That's not... You... It's..."The Snivy lightly shook his head as he trailed off each time, not able to say what he felt he should. He felt like he should shout something about the Lillipup being wrong, that it was lying, that the teen that he was stuck with wouldn't do something like that. But, every time he tried... He couldn't shake the feeling that the mutt might have a point.
Seeing the Snivy falter, the Lillipup continued to speak."I wouldn't be surprised if whoever you were with has already released you. It's not like it's the first time something like that has happened."The small canine was now rather close to the grass type."Look, you're obviously in a bad way, so you might as well come with me. I know some people that'd be more than willing to take in a grass type like you. Even if you're some weakling that's been ditched."
By this point, the Snivy had almost been willing to just go along with the Lillipup's offer. Except, the canine had made one small mistake in its choice of words."...Weakling...? Are you saying I was abandoned... Because I'm weak?"That accusation was a mistake on the Lillipup's part for two rather big reasons, one being a belief of the Snivy's and the other being something the grass starter knew to be true. It dragged the Pokemon out of its funk enough to glare at the Lillipup again.
"Tell you what. You can take that offer and shove it up where the eggs come out! And if you don't have that hole, I'll be glad to make it for you!"As the Snivy snapped at the canine, he tried to move past so that he could resume his search for his trainer. There was no way that teen would have gotten rid of him just for being weak. After all, he was the only one of her two Pokemon whose battling ability she had actually seen! If anyone had a chance of being ditched for weakness this early in the journey, it was that ball of fuzz the girl had been so keen on cuddling.
Now the Lillipup was getting irritated, and stepped in the way of the Snivy."Maybe I should put it this way. You're coming with me, either on your own two feet or by me dragging you along. Got it?"the small Pokemon growled as it shoved the Snivy, although didn't injure it. It was just looking to make sure the grass type knew who the stronger battler was in this area."A fight's not gonna end in your favor, so you might as well just stow the attitude and follow me."
"We'll see about that..."the grass serpent muttered as it stood up, having been knocked over by the Lillipup. Once back on his feet, the oddly-colored Snivy rammed into the canine, knocking it back some and doing some good damage. This did not make the Lillipup happy at all, and it snarled something as it got back up.
Growling fiercely, the small canine Pokemon glared at the impudent Snivy."Fine. You wanna do this the hard way? I'll make sure you end up regretting it!"Once the Lillipup finished snarling its threat, it charged at the grass serpent. The Snivy was ready for it and stood its ground until the Lillipup got close enough. Then, it lunged forward, so that both Pokemon ended up impacting one another with their full force.
The Snivy ended up being knocked back quite a bit and was slammed into the wooden fence that had been behind it. The Lillipup also suffered a nasty hit, although it at least didn't have to worry about being knocked into anything and just ended up pushed back. The canine then chuckled a bit as it bared its tiny fangs at the Snivy."Aw, tough break. Guess you're not as much of a wimp as I thought. I'm still stronger, though, and faster. Once I've dragged you back to the group, you'd better hope whatever loser of a trainer you have really did release you. They're gonna have a pretty big problem if they didn't."
"Hey! Over here, you mangey mongrel!"Although the Lillipup had been getting ready to knock out the Snivy with another ramming attack, it turned to give the stink eye to whoever yipped the insult at him. He was just in time to see some teenage girl hold up a ball and shoot a red beam of light out of it. The beam of light hit the injured Snivy, sucking it up and dragging it into the Pokeball. In front of the girl, and looking very much ready to continue the fight that had just been interrupted, was some little Eevee that seemed a little unnerved by the glare.
Sable had let out a light sigh of relief once her Snivy was safely back in his ball."...No wandering off..."the teen muttered in an exasperated, although still relieved, tone. She then looked over at the Lillipup, this one looking quite a bit tougher than the little one that her starter had beaten earlier."Looks like Snivy did a good job of weakening it. Think you can finish the job?"The teen looked down at the Eevee as she made her query, and received an affermitive yip in return.
The Lillipup's nose was twitching as it gave its most menacing growl towards the interlopers. Granted, the only one anywhere near intimidated by the sound was the Eevee, and even that wasn't much. Even if it was a tough puppy, the Eevee's opponent was still a puppy, and a small one at that. The Eevee gave a high-pitched growl back and, without even waiting for his trainer's orders, charged at the Lillipup and tackled it head-on. Sable couldn't help but let out a low whistle at how far the Lillipup had been knocked back by the strike, and made a mental note to look up more on the small ball of fluff's ability later.
Obviously outmatched and pretty bashed up by now, the Lillipup decided it was better to save his own tail and ran off to somewhere. Sable's Eevee gave a few yips at the fleeing canine, then padded back over to his trainer and wagged his tail."Nice job,"the teen said as she knelt down and patted the Eevee on his head, adding in a bit of a scratch behind an ear. She then let back out her Snivy, taking care that he at least had some distance from the Eevee in case the two started arguing again.
"Looks like you were doing a good job of holding your own, too."The teen reached out to pat the grass serpent's head as well, but the Snivy avoided the teen's hand. He then climbed up the back of the teen's outfit until he reached her shoulders, and finally stretched out so that he was laying across the back of the teen's neck while still hanging on to her shoulders. Sable sighed, but figured it was better than trying to carry one of the two Pokemon in her arms as she cautiously stood back up."Come on, let's get to the Pokemon center. I know at least one of you could benifit from it,"she said as she made her way back through the town, her Eevee padding along close by.

It took some time, as well as several wrong turns, but eventually the Pokemon center was once again in sight."Okay, assuming we don't have any more problems, this shouldn't take too terribly long,"the teen said to her two Pokemon as she quickened her pace. The Eevee yipped happily as he sped up to keep close to his trainer, while the Snivy just kept quiet and relaxed while stretched out across his trainer's shoulders.
Whatever Sable had expected when the doors to the Pokemon center slid open, it certainly wasn't the scene that presented itself to her. There was a large line in front of the counter where the nurse hurriedly whisked trainer's Pokemon somewhere to be taken care of. Certainly, it was common to see trainers go to get their Pokemon healed, but not anywhere near this many at once! Many of the trainers standing in the line also sported injuries of their own, and a good number of them were also ushered to somewhere in the back of the building once their Pokemon had been taken.
The teen's eyes softly narrowed as she glanced around for a moment, then settled on where the busy nurse and her Audino were frantically going back and forth between the counter and the back rooms."Let's see if we can't help speed this line along a little,"the teen muttered as she flashed a small smile to her Eevee and Snivy, then carefully edged her way along the side of the chaotic line. The small normal type keeping pace with Sable constantly glanced at the various trainers he passed by, as if trying to figure something out.
As the desert dweller picked her way through the lobby, she overheard bits and pieces of the larger conversation consisting of the people standing and sitting around talking about what had happened to them."Ugh, that guy was tough.""I barely got away from him.""Even some of the trainers from Striaton had to turn back.""He managed to swipe a few of my Pokemon."As the teen heard these and other comments, her gaze hardened, and by the time she reached the counter, she didn't look like all that nice of a person due to the glare she was now sporting.
The busy nurse frowned when she saw that one of the trainers had come up to the counter out of turn."I'm sorry, but you'll just have to wait your turn,"the woman huffed as she took another set of injured Pokemon to the back rooms for proper treatment. Sable blinked a couple of times, managing to get rid of most of her harsh glare in the process, then shook her head lightly."I was actually wanting to lend a hand,"the teen hurriedly explained when she saw the nurse return.
Since the next couple of people and their Pokemon just needed a few small injuries bandaged up, the woman had a moment to look the teenager over."I'm not sure... You don't seem like someone who's done any real medical work..."the nurse started, but was soon met with the teen's shaking head."I know I can't take care of the more complicated injuries, but I know my way around a healing station and a first aid kit. I can deal with cleaning and bandaging wounds on both people and most Pokemon... It'll at least free up you and your Audino to help out anyone with anything more difficult."
The nurse was still uncertain as she glanced at the long line of trainers that still needed assistance, but some beeping from one of the rooms in the back meant that she needed to make a decision quickly."...Oh, alright. But if you're uncertain about how to treat something, send them right on to the back. Understand?"the woman advised as she let Sable behind the counter. The teen gave a firm nod, then took the nurse's place at the counter to help the next person in line while the Eevee poked around at the area a bit.
It took a few tries to get into a rhythm, but soon the line was moving along a bit quicker than it had been before. It was especially helpful when Sable's Snivy got off her shoulders and went down to wherever that Eevee was hiding. Even more so since the two weren't going at one another for the time being. Sable could take care of the injuries that people and their Pokemon had for the most part, and only had to send a small handful of the patients to the back where the nurse was busy. Occasionally the Audino would pop in to lend a paw, too, and that was also handy.

While their trainer worked on helping out the nurse, the Eevee and Snivy decided to poke around a bit while they were behind the counter. After a bit of sniffing, Sable's Eevee eventually started pawing at a drawer."Oi! Help me open this, would you? I don't have any thumbs, here,"the normal type yipped quietly as it tried to hook a paw around the knob, obviously having trouble.
The Snivy gave the ball of fuzz a skeptical look and crossed his arms."What makes you think I'd help you with that?"the grass type retorted, to which the Eevee rolled his eyes before yapping again."Because, you dolt, potions aren't gonna do you much good. You don't have any open wounds, so nothing for the medicine to go into. You'll be better off with berries, and I just so happen to smell a few in this drawer."The Eevee then pawed at the drawer in question once more to get its point across.
Oblivious to exactly what the two Pokemon below her were doing, aside from the fact that whatever it was, it didn't involve them fighting one another, the trainer finished helping out the last handful of people that needed their Pokemon and themselves healed up. Letting out a soft sigh, the teen decided to clear off the counter as best as she could while she waited for the nurse to return. She didn't have to wait too terribly long, and the pink-haired woman was soon back in the area with her Audino to check on how the teen had been doing. Obviously, the nurse was rather pleasantly surprised about how much the teen had been able to take care of on her own, and that it had been done correctly.
The nurse smiled as Sable made her way back out from behind the counter."Thank you for your help, miss..."she started, but trailed off for a bit when she realized she hadn't caught the teen's name in all the chaos. Sable couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the hesitation, then also realized she hadn't introduced herself."It's Sable. And it was no trouble. I figured that if I was going to have to wait for my turn, I might as well do something useful in the meantime,"the teen explained, giving the pink-haired woman a smile.
Giving a smile in return, the nurse nodded in agreement before suddenly having a startled expression."Ah! That's right! Did you need any of your Pokemon taken care of?"Sable gave a nod, then looked around a bit."Yeah, my Snivy. First he got a hold of some weird crystal that changed his coloration, and then he got knocked into a fence by a Lillipup,"the teen answered, then looked past the counter and down when she heard something that, although strange, could only be described as some creature's cross between a hiccup and a belch.
Sable just gave the culprit an odd frown as she looked at him, seeing the red and orange Snivy sitting against the wall with the stem of some berry nearby."...Looks like he decided to treat himself while I was busy... In both senses of the phrase."The teen gave an exasperated sigh once she finished speaking, while the nurse and her Audino had to cover their mouths while giggling. Sable's Eevee poked its head into view as it closed up the drawer it and the Snivy had gotten open, then just smiled and wagged its tail as if it did something good.
Once her brief giggle fit subsided, the pink-haired woman smiled at Sable before carefully picking up the Snivy."Well, at least that's one problem we don't have to worry about anymore. I'll just take him for a little check up to see if that crystal you were talking about did more than alter his coloration,"she said with a smile, although the Snivy did not look pleased at all by the idea.
As much as the teen might have sympathized with the grass serpent about the idea of getting poked and prodded, it still needed to be done."Sorry guy, but you're the one that decided to snatch it out of my hand. We just wanna make sure you won't be negatively affected by the thing is all,"she explained, but that didn't do much to make the strangely-colored Snivy any more cooperative. The nurse just chuckled again as she took the mildly-struggling Pokemon to the back, her Audino giving Sable a friendly wave before following along behind the pink-haired woman.
With that bit of business taken care of, the teen looked over at the Eevee that was still behind the counter."Alright, come out from behind there. I've got some other stuff I need to have taken care of in the meantime, and I could use a hand with some of it,"she said, earning a couple of yips as the normal type hopped around the counter and over to his trainer. As he bunted Sable's ankle, he gave another yip due to someone in a blue outfit coming over and tapping the teen on the shoulder.
"Excuse me, miss?"the man started, adjusting the position of a box he carried as the teen turned to face him."Hm?""You said your name was Sable, yes? Your last name wouldn't happen to be Voss, would it?"Sable was a bit surprised that someone was asking about her, but nodded all the same."Yes, that's right. Did you need something?"
The man with the box smiled a bit and pulled out a clipboard to hand to the teen."I have a package from somewhere in Orre addressed to you, miss. Not often I see that stamp on packages, I must admit,"he explained to the teen as she signed her name on the acceptance form. Once the teen was done, the delivery man looked over the signature and nodded."Right, all I need now is to see your trainer identification, and you're all set."
"Right, right, ID. Right..."the teen mumbled, instinctively reaching for where she kept the silver device she had before stopping.No, wrong, that needs to be updated. Other one. Pokedex. Right.As those thoughts crossed through the teen's head, she reached for the pocket she had tucked the Pokedex Professor Juniper gave her into and pulled out the pink device. The teen was definitely not fond of the color, but apparently that was the standard model for girls for some reason. Ah well, nothing a can of black or red spray paint couldn't fix. Or maybe she'd find some covers or accessories or whatever they wanted to call those case things that just snap on when she got to a larger city.
With a slide of the device and a press of the button, Sable showed the man her identification to show that she was, indeed, who she claimed to be. Nodding, the man finally handed the teen the package he had for her, A box about the right size to hold a dozen or so cookies if someone had decided to tuck them in."Right, have a good day miss Voss."the man said to her before heading out of the building, his delivery finished. The teen just chuckled and shook her head before sitting down on one of the cushioned seats, with her Eevee hopping up onto the seat next to her in order to sniff at the box. Whatever was inside, it definitely made the ball of fluff start yipping happily.
Sable gave the Eevee a pat on the head before looking over the box to find the easiest way to open it. She noticed something odd about it, though."Huh... No name... No return address, either. Just the stamp. That's... Odd."Shaking her head a bit, the teen decided to not worry about it too much and pulled off the tape that kept the box shut. After a few moments of wrestling with that - and, subsequently, having to carefully pull it off the Eevee that decided it wanted to bat at it and got tangled up in the sticky strip - the teen just had to open the flaps to see what was inside.
What she found was a bright red Pokeball with a stylized black rose sticker on the top, a smaller box that had a few heart-shaped chocolates inside, and a note sitting under the ball. Reading the note, the teen couldn't help but chuckle at what was written. She then folded it up and tucked it back in the box before pulling out the odd ball."From the way it was capitalized, I'm gonna guess that's your name,"the red-haired teen said as she looked the ball over, having a good idea what evolutionary family the Pokemon inside might be part of but knowing better than to take the chance of being wrong while inside a Pokemon center. She'd just have to wait until she moved up to the next route before checking it out, hopefully before she found who she was planning on looking for.
Not really in the mood for chocolate, the teen decided to leave that small container in the larger box, setting it over the note so that it wouldn't slide around so much in the meantime. She really was getting a bit too much stuff to carry on her own, though, and that was another part of why she was in the building in the first place. There was something she'd have to do first, though... Well, second, actually, as the nurse had returned with the teen's Snivy.
Clipping the decorated Cherish Ball onto her belt, Sable went over to the counter where the pink-haired woman and the grass starter were at. The nurse smiled at the teen as the Snivy hopped back onto the red-haired trainer's shoulders."You'll be pleased to know that all changes done by that crystal are only cosmetic. Your Snivy is perfectly healthy, aside from a few bruises that'll fade in a couple of days,"the woman said, then took a small egg that her Audino handed her and set it on the counter."Also... I know it's not much, but please take this for your help earlier. I know that it can be hard for a beginning trainer to raise up their Pokemon when they first start out, and something like this is sure to be a big help for a while."
The teen was a bit surprised, but gave a smile and a nod after a moment and picked up the small egg."Thank you, ma'am. I'll be sure to put it to good use,"Sable replied, earning another chuckle from the woman with pink hair."Please, just call me Nurse Joy. ...And my sisters and cousins, too, now that I think about it... It seems there's one of us in just about every Pokemon center in the league..."The woman gave a sheepish chuckle at that fact, especially when it was met with a shocked expression from Sable.
The teen got over her momentary mental stun and lowly whistled as she shook her head."Sounds like a big, happy family if there ever was one... Well, I guess we'd both better get back to our work,"she finally said, then gave the woman a grin before heading over to one of the PCs. It was getting a bit difficult to carry all the gifts she had just gotten, but she'd get that taken care of a little later. She had something very important she needed to deal with, and she couldn't put it off any longer.
Once at a vacant PC, the teen set down the box of stuff and the egg before pulling out her Pokedex, the silver-colored device she had been carrying with her, and a cable with multiple plugs to stick into various devices."Right, time to get this thing updated... I know the good professor said that that dex will work as my ID, but she also said I won't get a replacement if I lose it. Besides, can't leave the one on here half-finished,"the red-haired trainer muttered to herself as she started plugging the cable into the Pokedex, the silvery device, and the PC.
With everything plugged in, the teen then turned on both the Pokedex and the odd device she had. While the Pokedex showed a full trainer ID for Sable, the other device was missing a few pieces of information, plus needed various things like height, weight, age, and image updated. It looked like it had been filled out the best it could be at one point several years back, but had to stay uncompleted for some reason or other. Sable shook her head a bit as she thought about what had kept her from finishing it in the first place, then typed a few things on the PC's keyboard.
It took going through a few programs, fixing a few errors, and quite a bit of time, but eventually the silvery device's information on the girl perfectly matched that which was on the Pokedex."Ugh... Sherles needs to find someone who can update that system... Updating trainer info on a P*DA is a pain..."the teen groaned as she shut the two small devices and shut off the PC. She then unplugged everything and took her Pokedex and, as she called it, P*DA before tucking the two small devices and the cable she used into a couple of pockets.

With all that business with the long line, the package, and updating her P*DA taken care of, it was time for Sable to do what she had come into the building to do in the first place. The teen knew that she was going to have a hard time carrying stuff, so now it was off to the section of the building where the market was. Her Snivy hung onto her shoulders and rode along, while the Eevee padded beside her and looked at all the items in the area.
The teen skipped straight past the typical supplies most people were hovering over - potions, balls, and the like - and instead went for more mundane and essential items. Like, for instance, a backpack to keep everything in. It took a bit of poking and tugging, but the teen soon found one that looked alright and was tough enough for her liking."Bleh... Now the clothes shopping... Good grief, how do most girls think this sort of thing is fun?"The teen shook her head as she mumbled her rhetorical question, then made her way down to the clothing area.
For the most part, the teen deferred to the opinions of her two Pokemon as far as what looked good. Ultimately, Sable ended up with a couple pairs of pants, one pair of capri pants, one jacket, a spare pair of boots, a set of full gloves, four different shirts, a half-dozen pairs of socks, and a nice-looking dress that came with stockings, a pair of shoes, and a pair of bracelets because she couldn't say no to the two Pokemon looking up at her when they handed the outfit to her. The teen grimaced for a moment at the thought of how much it all was going to cost as she grabbed a half-dozen different colors of bandannas to add to the collection of items.
Sable didn't really notice when the Snivy and Eevee ran off for a moment, as she had started concentrating on getting more necessary items like a couple of canteens, a bedroll, cooking supplies, and a few dishes for her and her Pokemon to eat with. She turned to look when she heard something clattering and rolling, then chuckled when she saw her Snivy struggling to push a shopping cart over to where she was."Thanks. I guess I underestimated how much stuff I was going to be getting from here,"the teen said as she piled the items into the cart, then bent down to rub the Snivy on his head.
With the majority of the important stuff done, and after picking up a few bars of soap and a small bucket, all that was left was picking out the food for her and her Pokemon to nom on for the breakfasts, lunches, and dinners when they weren't staying at a Pokemon center. The teen let the Snivy ride in the cart as she made her way through the aisles, figuring it'd be easier on her than having to carry the grass serpent. It took her a while to decide what all to get, but eventually she had a half-dozen cans of Pokemon food picked out and placed in the cart. She also grabbed a couple of sandwiches for her to have later in the day and evening, along with some ingredients for a simple soup in case she wasn't able to get back to Striaton or Accumula by the next day.
With everything picked out, the teen went over to the register and got all her items purchased. The spending spree certainly took a large bite out of her funds, far more than the teen would have liked, but there wasn't much she could do about that. She was going to need the bag to carry the stuff she kept getting, and the supplies were necessary for if she got lost or something awkward like that. As for the outfits... Well, she couldn't just wear one set of clothes all the time. For one thing, the pants would wear out faster if she did that! Not good, since they were apt to get torn to shreds easy enough just by traveling. The dress and accessories... Fine, they weren't necessary, but after everything else she was getting, she wasn't going to disappoint the two little cuties looking up at her so expectantly.
After paying for everything, the teen dragged her newly-purchased stuff over to a chair and started packing everything away. As she did so - with her Snivy helping out by handing her some of the smaller stuff and folding up the clothes before deciding to hang onto the egg that the nurse had given his trainer - one of the trainers the teen had assisted while helping out the nurse came over with a pleased-looking Eevee padding along beside him."Excuse me. Is this your Eevee?"the boy asked, although he got his answer soon enough when the bundle of fluff jumped onto a nearby chair end yipped happily at the teen.
Sable paused in her packing, blinked a few times as she looked at the Eevee, then sighed as she scratched him behind the ears."I can't take my eyes off you, can I...?"she asked lightly, then let out an exasperated sigh and shook her head before looking back at the boy."Yeah, he is. Was he bothering you?"
The boy gently petted the Eevee before giving a sheepish chuckle."Well... He did kinda take one of my Heart Scales... But it's fine if he's yours. After how much you helped out all of us, I think one little Heart Scale is the least any of us could give you as thanks. Besides, I'm sure he'll be able to get a lot more use out of it than I would,"the kid explained, to which the teen gave her bundle of fluff a stern look. She then turned back to the boy and gave him a bit of a smile."I'm glad you're not made about his antics, at least. Still, sorry he took that scale. I'm sure you were looking forward to teaching one of your Pokemon something new."
The boy looked a bit uncomfortable after Sable's last statement, but he still gave her a smile and a nod before speaking again."Yeah, well... Uh, say. Were you planning on trying to head up to Striaton?"The teen raised an eyebrow at the boy's sudden change of topic, but decided to go along with it."...Yeah. Kinda need to, since Unova's first gym is up there. Doesn't sound like it'll be easy, though. Not with whoever has been targeting trainers passing through the route between here and Striaton."
Nodding, the young boy glanced over at some of the other trainers in the room, then looked back at Sable."...I should tell you to stay away from him... But... You look like you're a pretty good trainer already..."The child sounded hesitant as he spoke, as well as worried."...Um... If you see a guy about your age with black hair... And he tries to offer you some advice... I guess I'd suggest you take it... He doesn't seem to like the guy jumping everybody, but he doesn't look like he has any Pokemon... I'm guessing a lot of the people here didn't take his advice, and they got pretty badly beaten up for it."
Sable nodded at the boy's advice, then gave him a small grin before patting him on the shoulder."I'll keep that tip in mind when I'm out that way. I'll probably need all the help I can get if I run into whoever has been causing so much trouble,"the teen said, finishing with a chuckle as she stood up and shouldered her new backpack."Come on, fluffball. We need to get moving before it gets too dark out,"she said to the Eevee as she made her way out of the building, the small normal type yipping before following after his trainer.

After taking a moment to use one of the bandannas she purchased to make a sling for the Snivy to easily carry the egg with, Sable made her way through Accumula. Her intention was to head out the town exit to the Northwest and make her way down Route 2. If her luck held out, or perhaps if the opposite occurred, the teen figured she'd run across whoever was causing so much trouble for the rookie trainers trying to start their journeys. She just had to make sure she didn't become another casualty when she faced whoever this mysterious ambusher was.
Just as the sky was starting to darken a bit and the town exit was in sight, a Lillipup dashed out and blocked the path of the teen and her Pokemon. As it growled at the trio, Sable's Eevee growled right back while her Snivy ran up in front of the teen to face the normal type."What, is this the same Lillipup we dealt with earlier?"the teen asked, earning a nod and a syllable of confirmation from both the Eevee and the Snivy.
Nodding a bit in return, the teen then looked over at the Lillipup. The small pup was sniffing at the Snivy as it bared its tiny fangs, apparently checking to make sure of something. Well, at least it provided an opening."We might as well just hit it with Tackle until it runs off,"the teen stated, earning a nod from the grass serpent before it charged at the small canine.
Although the Lillipup did not do much as it was struck twice more, just giving the Snivy the stink eye and sniffing around again, it did eat up a bit of time. By the time the Lillipup was chased off - running up towards Route 2, where the teen and her Pokemon had been heading - the sun had sunk even lower, now about one-third of the way below the horizon. Well, if the teen could even see the horizon past the trees surrounding the town. Either way, it was going to be dark soon, and the teen couldn't afford to linger any longer."Let's go, you two,"she said as she ran off to the route ahead, closely followed by her pair of Pokemon.

After a few moments of running down the route, Sable slowed down to allow her Pokemon to catch up. She had a bit of a concerned expression as she looked around the area, trying to figure out what path she should take. One went straight through the route, but was riddled with ledges that most young trainers found too difficult to climb past. The other bypassed the ledges, but forced her to move in and out of the dense foliage while repeatedly crossing the main road. Neither option was all that appealing to the teen, especially given how quickly night was approaching.
Once her Snivy and Eevee finished making their way to her, the teen knelt down while facing them."We're gonna have to take the rough path. There isn't enough daylight left for us to risk traipsing through the woods. We'll just have to hope we see this guy along the road,"she explained to the two Pokemon, earning nods of agreement from the both of them. The teen then held out an arm so that the Snivy could climb up it onto her shoulders, since it'd be easier to try and lift her Pokemon over the ledge and climb up herself than go up first and try to pull them up.
As the teen waited for the grass starter to climb aboard, she felt something hit her twice. Once in her back, and once on the back of the head. They weren't hard hits, nor were they all that painful, but they were enough to catch her off guard and knock her onto her face. The teen let out a sound of surprise as her face hit the ground, then quickly moved to get a look at who the culprit was. She didn't have to look very hard, and soon found herself staring at a pair of eyes that were a darker shade of green than her own.
The purple feline that the green eyes belonged to gave a muffled meow as its tail twitched. The reason for the meow being muffled was readily apparent, as it was carrying the strap to a pair of goggles in its mouth. A very familiar pair of goggles..."Hey! Give those back!"the teen exclaimed as she scrambled to get up, but almost as soon as she opened her mouth the Purrloin bounded off for the trees that lined the route.
Sable hesitated for a moment as she saw the dark feline get further away. After all, she had just said that she didn't want to risk getting lost in the woods at night, or at least that was what she meant by saying she didn't want to go that way this late in the day. On the other hand, those goggles were rather important to her, as they had been a gift from a friend of hers. The idea of them suddenly being gone because of some thieving cat... Well, it bothered her, plain and simple.
The Eevee and Snivy had caught on to their trainer's discomfort about the situation and, after looking at one another an nodding, raced off after the Purrloin. Seeing that the choice was no longer in her hands and refusing to risk also losing the two Pokemon that ran off, the teen hurried after them. She regretted the decision almost as soon as she made it, as the Purrloin led the trio on a chase through the woods and well off even the worst of the grassy trail.
After several minutes of running deeper into the wooded area, the teen's Eevee had caught up to the the Purrloin."Oi! Give back those goggles!"the normal type yipped at the feline. The dark type sneered as it looked back at the Eevee, then adjusted its ill-gotten gains so that the goggles would stay in place for what was to come."If you want them so bad... Come take them!"
The feline then leaped and struck at the Eevee, hitting it with his claws and leaving a nasty gash. Sable and her Snivy had arrived at the scene in time to see the strike and knew that they weren't going to get a better shot than that."Strike back with Tackle!"the teen commanded, sounding out of breath due to all the running she had done. The Eevee gave an affirmative yip, then rammed the Purrloin, knocking it quite a distance and doing some hefty damage to it.
As Sable watched to see what the dark type would do next, she was aware that her Eevee had started yipping rather excitedly. Confused, the teen raised an eyebrow as she looked at the normal type."What is it? Are you saying you want me to do something?"she asked, and from what little light was left as the sun sank, the teen could see the bundle of fluff excitedly nodding at her.
As far as the teen was aware, there were only two things that a trainer in her position should do to interfere. The first was obviously use some item or other to patch up her team members, but the Eevee's injury didn't look so bad as to require immediate treatment. That left one other option, and the last time she did that, she got smacked for it. Still, it was the only thing that made sense, so the teen sighed as she pulled a Pokeball out of one of her pockets."Don't hit me for this later,"she stated, then threw the ball at the Purrloin.
The injured Purrloin was unable to resist being pulled into the ball, and after a few shakes, was trapped inside. This made the Eevee yip even more as it pranced over to the ball, apparently pleased about the capture. After a few moments of dancing and yipping around the captured dark type's ball, the normal type batted it over to his trainer with his paw. The teen couldn't help but chuckle at the ball of fluff's antics, although she felt a little bad for the Purrloin inside the Pokeball. Getting rolled around like that must not have been very enjoyable.

Once the teen picked up the ball, she then pulled out several bottles to spray her Pokemon with, as well as some stuff to clean out the scratches and scrapes."Looks like that Purrloin got you pretty good, huh? Sorry about the sting. At least he'll be feeling it as well when I let him out,"she said to her Eevee, who was sitting nearby, then held him a bit closer to her. The normal type knew what was coming, and didn't try to resist getting the scratch marks wiped clean and having it sprayed with the contents of the bottle. He did whimper slightly, though, since it did sting like the teen said it would.
With her Eevee taken care of, Sable then let out her newly-captured Purrloin. The feline Pokemon still had the teen's goggles, so the first thing that the trainer did was take them back."Thank you for leading us on such a merry chase through the woods. Now hold still,"she said with a rather bitter voice at first, although it simply became stern when she told the feline to stay where it was. She then cleaned out the scrapes from when it had been tackled by her Eevee and sprayed the healing solution into the wounds. The dark type was far less cooperative than the Eevee had been, but the trainer was still able to keep it in one place long enough to get things taken care of.
Now that both Pokemon were healed, the teen tucked the empty bottles into a pouch of her bag so that she could toss them away when she got to a town or city. She then stood up and dusted off her pants before looking down at the Purrloin."No. No, I'm not gonna forgive you this easy, you little scoundrel. You took my goggles, led us on a chase well off either path, and have wasted our time,"she said as she looked away, trying to not look at the feline Pokemon's face. By now, the Purrloin had his eyes big and wide, his mouth expressing a sad frown, and whimpers escaping from him.
As much as the teen tried to, she couldn't ignore the feline Pokemon's sad demeanor and knelt down to pet it."...Fine... But don't do it again, alright little guy?"The Purrloin gave Sable a happy meow and nuzzled her with a cheerful expression on his face. At least, until his head was out of the teen's field of view. The dark type then shot a mischievous grin at the Eevee that knocked him for a loop earlier, earning a snort of amusement from said Eevee.
With that bit of excitement done, Sable picked up her Snivy so that he could ride on her shoulders. She then called the Eevee to come closer to her as she stood up. She wasn't too worried about the Purrloin losing its way, since it was a dark type and a cat at that, meaning it would have an easy time finding its way around in the darkness. The teen was even willing to wager that the Eevee and Snivy would be able to find their way around better than her at this hour. Still, she just felt better keeping the fluffball and the grass serpent close as she selected a direction that she thought was in the right direction and went off in it, not realizing that she was just walking deeper into the small forest she had run into earlier.

Sable was feeling a lot less certain of herself as she continued to make her way through the dense trees surrounding the route. It was now rather dark, and the teen was having a hard time seeing what was in front of her. On top of that, she was unfamiliar with the area, having only paid as much attention as she needed to when she had made her way down the first time around. Not that that bit of recollection would be of much use, as she was well off the path she had originally taken.
The teen gave the Snivy on her shoulder a pat on the head, more to comfort herself than him, as she looked around. Something had started to bother her, a rather uncomfortable feeling. She knew what that feeling was and why it was bothering her so much, but finding the source of the problem was proving to be rather difficult. The teen had realized someone was watching her, but it was too dark for her to see who it was at first.
After a few more moments, though, she spotted something other than the various dark tones that surrounded her, and her Eevee's growling meant that she wasn't the only one. A pair of icy blue eyes, almost seeming to glow a bit from what little starlight reflected off of them, could be seen approaching the girl. Next came what of the person's pale skin was not covered, and it looked like he was keeping his hands up in full view as he came closer.
Sable had still been inclined to think that whoever was approaching might have been the person causing so much trouble for the new trainers trying to make their way to Striaton, although a cheery set of meows and some purring made her raise her eyebrow. Come to think of it, where had her Purrloin gone? Frowning, the teen pulled out her Pokedex and pressed a couple of buttons to get the screen to light up, then held it out so that she could at least see a few feet in front of her.
She might not have had much that she expected to see, but if she did, a teenager in dark clothing bending over to pet her Purrloin was not on that list. The boy flashed her a smile as he straightened up, then put his hands in his pockets."Evening! It's a bit late to be this far off the path, isn't it?"he asked cheerily as he looked at the girl, chuckling a bit afterwards.
Sable's eyes narrowed a bit, not entirely trusting of the guy that she still couldn't completely see, but not so distrusting that she was going to drive him off."Uh, yeah, well, I've got that little guy to thank for it,"she replied as she motioned towards the Purrloin that was still nuzzling the boy's leg, deciding to take a cue from the cat and act mostly friendly for the moment. Her Eevee also let up on the growling, although now her Snivy was giving the boy a glare.
The dark-haired boy grinned and laughed at the girl's explanation, then stroked the Purrloin a few more times."I see! Led you on a merry little chase, did he? Yeah, these guys tend to do that a lot. Just means they think you're interesting."The boy laughed again, then walked over the rest of the way to Sable and offered her a hand.""By the way, name's Jin."
Sable looked over the teen for a moment, then nodded and accepted the offered handshake."Sable. I'd say it's nice to meet you, but this doesn't seem like the best spot or time for a meeting,"she replied, offering the other teen a sheepish smile. Jin nodded with a bit of a grin, then chuckled."Yeah... Guess not everyone's comfortable in the dark."After another chuckle, the boy tilted his head slightly as he grinned at Sable."I take it you're looking to get back to Accumula, then?"
Once again, Sable gave the teen speaking with her a sheepish smile. It was rather embarrasing that she had gotten so badly lost, after all."Well, yeah, eventually. I've kinda got something I need to take care of out here first,"she replied, and that seemed to wipe the grin right off Jin's face. He now had a concerned expression as he tilted his head to the other side and watched her."I'm guessing you've heard about the guy that's been causing so much trouble for rookie trainers out here. I'm gonna need to pass through this route to get to Striaton anyway, so I figure I might as well chase this guy off in the meantime."
By this point, the dark-clothed teen was frowning, although in more of a concerned manner than anything else."I've seen quite a few trainers get that sort of idea in their heads lately. It doesn't usually go well for them. You might not look like a rookie, but I get the feeling you haven't had much of a chance to work with your Pokemon so far,"he finally said, then looked around for a moment before facing the female trainer once more."...I might not be able to do much about the power problem, but I've seen how this guy fights, so I can at least give you an idea of what you'll be getting into."
Sable had listened quietly as the teen voiced his concerns, then nodded when he made his offer."That'd certainly come in handy. It's bad enough that I'll be going after someone who outclasses me, but going in blind would just end in a trip of my own back to the Pokemon center... And I'm not quite sure I'd be able to get in at this hour."As she finished speaking, Sable knelt down to give her Eevee a pat on the head, earning a purr from the bundle of fluff.
Jin nodded, then looked at the teen's Pokemon before looking back at her."Alright. I'll let you know what I've seen him use, and I'll lead you to where I last saw him. I'll also stick around while you fight in case you need someone to lead you back to the city,"he said, then looked around and held up a finger."First thing's first. I've got something that'll come in handy, and something for us to munch on while we chat. Come on."With that, Jin waved for Sable to follow along as he backed out of the limited range of the light her Pokedex was casting, then turned around once he was just out of the small circle of light and moved off to somewhere else in the woods. For a moment, Sable thought she saw an odd shadow that shouldn't have been there, but figured it was just her eyes playing tricks on her and followed Jin as best as she could.
The duo eventually reached a fairly clear area with a few supplies scattered around. Even without light, Jin could easily see that the teen he was leading had caught up, so he turned to face her and give the girl one of his grins."Hope you don't mind the mess! Anyway, just take a seat anywhere and I'll get the thing out,"he said cheerily, then went over to a small pack and dug around in it. He then blinked a moment before shooting another grin over at Sable."Oh, yeah, feel free to take as many of those berries lying around as you like! No way I'll be able to eat them all, so someone else might as well get some use out of them!"
Sable let out a sheepish chuckle at the other teen's words, while her Eevee gave a few cheery yips and went to nom on whatever tasty-looking berries he could find. Her Snivy and Purrloin also went to eat a few of the pieces of fruit laying around, picking a few different kinds that they liked and nibbling at them. The teen looked around a bit, but only managed to find a half-dozen or so blue-colored berries that looked kind of like pieces of seaweed. The teen had nibbled on a few of them, then bundled the rest together to save for later.
By the time she had finished tucking away the odd berries, Jin had come back with a white piece of cloth. He seemed pretty pleased about it as he handed the cloth to Sable. "Right, that thing's a Silk Scarf. I figure you already know this, but in case you don't, it'll power up moves like Tackle or Scratch. I'd recommend giving it to your Eevee, since it's bound to get a lot of good moves of its type,"he explained, grinning as he did so. At the very least, he got a fairly pleasant chuckle out of Sable due to his cheeriness.
With the scarf in hand, the teen then went over to her Eevee."Oi, stop eating a moment and let me put this thing on you,"she said, earning a yip or two from the normal type as he squirmed for a moment. It took a bit of doing, but Sable was able to get the scarf secured around the Eevee's neck. The teen figured she looked rather ridiculous, and Jin laughing at the scene didn't help her opinion any.

From the explanation that Jin gave her about what she'd be facing, it sounded to Sable that the guy causing so much trouble liked using a lot of poison types. A lot of Pokemon from the Kanto region as well, from the way the boy spoke. It seemed a bit odd to the teen that someone would go that far out of their way to cause trouble, but she hadn't exactly done something normal by starting her time as a trainer so far from home, either. That, and Kanto trainers willing to make the effort had access to a psychic move fairly early on, so maybe whoever was causing problems out in Unova figured it was better to start somewhere that he didn't have to worry about psychic or ground moves this early on.
Once the chatting was taken care of, and after giving Sable a warning to recall everyone but the Pokemon she planned to start battling with, Jin led the teen off towards where the punk in question had his camp set up. For some reason, Jin seemed to be trying to keep the teen from being able to see his back as he led her onward, preferring to either keep beside her or out of the light's range. Another oddity from the teen's view, but she didn't question this one any more than she questioned the out of place team the person she'd be facing would use.
As the group got closer to the camp site, Jin seemed to be far less comfortable about going along with the teen. He trailed back more often and flitted in and out of the teen's field of view more often than she'd like. Even the Snivy, the only on of her team that Sable kept out of his ball at the moment, was having a hard time keeping track of where the dark-haired teen kept moving to. Eventually, the teen just stopped moving forward and simply pointed in the direction that Sable needed to go for the last little bit.
"He's up that way. He might not look much older than either of us, but he's a pretty nasty guy to try and face,"he said with a much quieter voice than he had used before, then glanced around a bit before looking back at Sable."I'd rather not get any closer than this, so you're on your own for the fighting. I'll still be around if you need an escape route, though,"he said as he gave the teen a small wave, managing to force out an uncomfortable smile.
Sable nodded and flashed the teen a thumbs up before turning her attention to the camp. A quick glance around showed that there was no one nearby, which was a good sign for the teen. Deciding to take a chance, the red-haired trainer tiptoed into the camp, careful to make as little noise as she could, and looked around at what was set up around the area. There was no spot set up for a fire, most of what food could be seen was more for making sandwiches and salads than anything else, and a quick peek showed that the sleeping bag was lined with a couple of blankets. Clearly, whoever was here did not want to risk someone seeing the light of a fire.
Looking around some more, the teen soon found a large sack that seemed to be most of the way full. Closer inspection revealed that the sack's contents were various kinds of Pokeballs, some looking rather scuffed, others shiny and new, and many with various kinds of writing or images on them related to the Pokemon within. Sable smirked a bit, having at least found where the stolen Pokemon were being kept, and started working on getting the bag set up so she could grab it and run if things got bad. Even if her team got trashed by whoever was causing so much trouble, the teen was going to at least get everyone's Pokemon back to them.
Sable had just gotten the bag closed and ready to heft over her shoulder when she felt her Snivy jump off her shoulders and heard him slap away something with his tail. Turning around revealed a guy that didn't look too far off from her age pointing a flashlight at the girl while a pair of vines were retreating into the Bellsprout standing behind him."Didn't anyone bother to teach it's a bad idea to steal? Especially when you're trying to steal from someone a lot better at it than you?"he asked with a scowl as his Bellsprout stepped up.
The teen looked the older male over and huffed before speaking."Look who's talking. I've heard enough about the trouble you've caused to figure someone needs to put you in your place,"she scoffed, her Snivy letting out a"Sni!"of agreement after the teen finished speaking. Obviously, neither of them thought all that much of the person that had appeared in front of them.
The older male glared at the teen and her Snivy, then waved his hand outward with a slight flourish."I'll make sure you regret having such a stupid idea! Bellsprout, start off with Growth!"At the man's command, the weedy-looking grass type dug its roots into the ground and started absorbing nutrients for a temporary boost in strength. Still, Sable was confident, and motioned towards the growing Bellsprout."Don't worry about how big it gets! Strike with Tackle!"
The Snivy nodded, then rushed at the Bellsprout before ramming into the only part of it that looked like a good target. That, of course, being the grass type's head. The Bellsprout's body bent backwards and its head almost touched the ground as a result, but the Pokemon was able to straighten itself out in time to hear its trainer's next command."Toss it aside with Vine Whip!"At the order, a pair of thin, brownish vines snaked out from somewhere under the two leaves on the Bellsprout's body and wrapped themselves around the Snivy. The odd-looking plant Pokemon then turned and twisted, allowing the vines to follow along to fling the Snivy off towards a tree."You'd better run off now, girly, or you're gonna end up dealing with them next!"
It wasn't exactly the best of landings, but the Snivy was able to keep from hitting the tree too hard and plopped onto the ground. Sable simply tisked at the man's threat and stared him down."Don't even try that. You know as well as I do that that's all your Bellsprout's gonna be able to do,"she shot back, then motioned towards the Bellsprout again."Keep it up! Tackle!"she commanded, and once again the Snivy ran up and rammed the Bellsprout's head.
Once again, the Bellsprout ended up bending over backwards, although this time it was actually knocked over. Obviously, it wasn't going to be lasting much longer at the rate things were going."Hit it again!"the teen commanded, not above striking a downed opponent when dealing with thieves and thugs. As the Snivy rushed at the weedy Pokemon, though, a red beam of light hit the Bellsprout and sucked it into its ball. Its trainer had apparently had enough of seeing the one-sided affair and decided to step things up a notch."Let's see how you like this! Get out here, Grimer!"
Out of another ball that the man held popped a pile of purple sludge, which Sable's Snivy ended up hitting and getting stuck in. "Sni! Sni!"the grass serpent called out while struggling to claw its way out of the sticky mess it had gotten trapped in, all the while having to hear the man laughing at the small Pokemon's misfortune."Sucks to be that thing!"he called out between bouts of laughter, then gave Sable a nasty grin."Grimer! Pull that lizard in deeper, then give his trainer some trouble too with Poison Gas!"
Her eyes narrowing, Sable wasted no time pulling the Snivy's ball off her belt and pointing the button at the frantically-struggling grass type. As the oddly-colored Snivy was sucked into the ball and freed from the grip of the Grimer, the teen pulled up the square of cloth she wore around her neck to help protect herself from the cloud of toxic smoke that was spewed in her direction. Unfortunately, it did not do even half as much as she hoped, the girl was soon coughing and gagging on the foul gas that she was stuck in. This just made the jerk she was facing start laughing again, saying something about her giving up again as she went to a knee to try and get away from the gas. That didn't seem to help either, and actually made it worse as she was trapped in the heavy gas, but what did help was sending out the odd Pokemon that she had gotten as a Valentine's Day present, a rather wilted-looking Roselia with a black heart motif on her chest.
Seeing that her trainer was in a rather nasty spot of trouble, the odd-looking Roselia practically shoved one of her rose hands into Sable's face to give the trainer something a bit better to inhale than the toxic gas surrounding her. While still stuck with a bad cough and the feeling that her strength was being sapped, at least the fit wasn't anywhere near as bad as it had been now that she didn't have to deal with the stench. Another couple of breaths, and she was able to give the Roselia an order before holding her breath."Heart Stamp."
The Roselia nodded at the command, then quickly left the toxic area and smacked the source of the poison - the Grimer - in its face with one of its roses, leaving a heart-shaped indent in the rubbery sludge. Both the male trainer and his Grimer were shocked by the strong strike, but not surprised enough to keep from countering."Show that flower who's boss and Pound it into the ground!"The Grimer complied with the order, striking the poisonous rose with a sludgey fist, but it didn't seem to do all that much to the Roselia.
With the cloud of toxic smoke, while quickly fading, still densely around her trainer, the Roselia had to rely on her own tactics to finish off the Grimer. Of course, that wasn't a problem, as even the weakest move the Roselia had access to would be more than enough to knock out the poisonous Pokemon. So, figuring it couldn't hurt and would probably be a good idea anyway, the Roselia shot off a green ball of energy, striking the Grimer with it and smiling as it turned from green to bright red. As the red light returned to the Roselia, carrying what little was left of the Grimer's stamina with it, the sludge Pokemon couldn't hold itself together any longer and sank into a disgusting purple and brown puddle.
The male trainer gritted his teeth as he saw that, one, his Grimer had been knocked unconscious, and two, that the area around his opponent was now clear enough for her to send out some other kind of Pokemon without having to worry about it getting poisoned. It changed to a cruel smirk, though, when he saw the teen double over and heard another coughing fit come from her direction."Well, at least I just have to keep you busy long enough for the poison to do its job,"he sneered as he recalled the unconscious Grimer. He then grabbed the ball containing his Bellsprout and tossed it out in front of him, letting back out the injured plant.
Sable's eyes narrowed a bit as she saw that her opponent was changing his tactics a bit. Letting out a horrid-sounding set of coughs, the teen recalled the Roselia to its ball and sent out her Eevee, figuring the normal type might as well finish off the little weed. The bundle of fluff yipped a few times at the trainer in front of him, then turned with his ears drooped as he heard Sable continue her coughing fit. The teen quickly shook her head as she waved her hand towards the Bellsprout a few times, trying to shoo the Eevee's attention to the battle going on rather than her health.
"T-Tackle,"she managed to choke out, and although the normal type was still concerned, he gave her a yip of understanding before rushing at the Bellsprout. The male trainer across from her waved his hand out in front of him again, motioning at the Eevee."Not so fast! Vine Whip!"he called out, his voice sounding a bit more like a snarl than it had before. The Bellsprout nodded as the pair of vines snaked out like they did before, only instead of wrapping around the Eevee, they started striking at it in an attempt to knock it back.
Although the Eevee was hit with a few strikes from the vines, he was ultimately able to reach the Bellsprout and ram into it, knocking it into its trainer. The man was not expecting an unconscious Bellsprout flying into his face, and ended up being knocked onto his hind end as a result. Both Sable and her Eevee laughed a little at the unexpected event, although the teen's laugh quickly turned into yet another coughing fit. Even though she tried not to show it any more than she had to, it was getting harder for her to focus on the battle due to her increasing weariness and how difficult it was for her to take normal breaths. She was definitely hoping that Jin hadn't gotten too far from the site of the battle, mostly because she wasn't sure she'd be able to get very far once the fight was done.
Now rather thoroughly pissed off, the man recalled his Bellsprout and pulled another ball off his belt."That's it! When we're through with you, the only place you'll be going is a grave!"he shouted as he threw the ball as hard as he could, letting out his Beedrill well past where the Eevee was. The large bee Pokemon didn't even bother to look at the bundle of fluff behind it, instead focusing on the red-haired teen who was stuck doubled over coughing."Turn her into a pin cushion! Poison Sting!"
As the bug Pokemon gave a sound of confirmation, Sable looked up and saw the thing level its stingers in her direction. Panicking, she pressed the first button she could to let out another one of her Pokemon, ending up letting out the recently-captured Purrloin. The feline's eyes widened a bit at the situation it had been plopped into, and the Purrloin raised up a paw and had a ball of white light form on top of it. The light seemed to have a rather disconcerting effect on the Beedrill, and the attack ended up missing its intended target, ending up hitting the Purrloin instead.
Figuring she may as well get her Eevee out of the way since the Purrloin was now hissing at the Beedrill, Sable recalled the bundle of cream-colored fur. She then tried to straighten up to give a proper command, but ended up with a rather nasty set of coughing and hacking and was forced to a knee. The teen was obviously in no shape to give any actual commands, so the Purrloin stuck with what it knew and let the ball of light shine twice more. Of course, the Beedrill once again aimed to strike at the prone trainer, and this time the Purrloin actually made the effort to get in the way of the strikes to protect the teen.
Frustrated, the male trainer pointed directly at the Purrloin as he growled a bit."Get that cat out of the way with Fury Attack!"he ordered, causing the Beedrill to fly over and stab at the Purrloin multiple times. Even though it was a rather nasty set of strikes, the dark feline had at least managed what it attempted to do. He had bought his trainer enough time to compose herself, at least for long enough to send out a Pokemon better suited to this type of opponent. Besides that, the Beedrill would find that it was going to be taking some hard hits because of those few uses of Assist.
With a momentary break in her coughing fits now available, Sable tapped the button on the Cherish Ball she carried, letting back out her Roselia. The poisonous flower Pokemon gave a concerned glance towards her trainer as she once again was stuck coughing rather horribly, but ultimately felt it was better for her to focus on the threat she could deal with and turned her full attention to the Beedrill. The flower Pokemon struck twice with its roses, once with each hand, and dealt a pair of devastating blows to the Beedrill before it could do anything else. Those two hits were all it took to knock out the oversized bug.
The man scowled as he recalled his Beedrill, then glared down at the prone teen as he took a few steps towards her."Hey, great job, you managed to take down a team that should have trashed yours. You must feel so proud,"he said with a sarcastic tone as he continued to approach the girl, pausing only to grab something that the teen couldn't see. He quickly dropped the mocking tone as he spoke again."Just one big problem with that. What makes you think you're safe just because you managed to beat a few weak Pokemon?"
Between her coughs, Sable could her the man continue to approach her, but by that point the poison had taken so much of a toll on her that she could barely keep from falling over completely. She was in no condition to protect herself, and she was well aware of that. That's why she was a bit confused when she heard the footsteps stop getting closer. Of course, there was a perfectly understandable reason for why the punk's approach had been stopped, her just being unable to see it. That reason was her Roselia turning its roses towards the sore loser and firing a couple of Leech Seeds in his direction, aiming them so that they'd stop just in front of him to show him what'd happen to him if he didn't back off.
Seeing that he wasn't going to be coming out of this situation on top after all, the male trainer glared at the teen and her Roselia before tisking."Fine. You win this one, and you can even keep those stupid Pokemon you're so interested in grabbing. Not that you'll be getting very far."He gave the girl a sneer as he took a few steps back, then chuckled."Heck, I'm such a great guy, I'll even let you be the one to tell the guys I'm supposed to meet in the morning why I'm not here. I'm sure they'll love to hear that you wanted to interfere with our little exchange. If you're conscious enough to tell them, that is."The man chuckled a bit more before walking off to somewhere away from the campsite, exactly where the teen had no idea. She just knew that he left, and that she needed to pull herself together enough to get moving soon.

Not long after her opponent had left, Sable more or less heard someone calling her name. Well, shouting was more accurate, although with how bad the teen was feeling she couldn't really tell the difference. She merely recognized the voice and wearily waved at the Roselia standing guard near her to, hopefully, tell it to not attack the person approaching her. For the most part, it seemed that she had at least managed to get that much across to the flower, as Jin was able to run over to her without getting attacked.
To say that Jin was worried as he cut a small, pink berry to pieces would be a rather massive understatement. He had seen a fair amount of the battle, and had run off during it when he saw that the teen had gotten stuck in a cloud of poison gas. He knew that she didn't have anything to heal poison, and had to go grab several Pecha berries before returning. He knew that they wouldn't work so well for humans, but at least it'd keep her stable long enough to get her back to Accumula.
After cutting a few of the berries into more manageable chunks, he held a few of the pieces in front of the teen's face."Come on. These'll help some,"he urged, and was relieved when, as soon as she was able, Sable ate a few of the pieces of berry. For her part, the teen had recognized the scent, and had seen a few people use them when their Pokemon had been poisoned, so she knew it'd at least do something to keep her from getting too bad off until she could get some proper treatment.
After another handful of berry pieces, Sable at least felt well enough to try straightening out with some help. She took it slow, not wanting to topple over because of a dizzy spell or something like that, and eventually managed to get to a standing position. She then glanced over at the sack of Pokeballs before looking back at Jin."Could... Could you help me get... Get those to Accumula?"she asked tiredly, nodding at the bag in question during one of her pauses.
Jin looked over at the sack in question, then nodded and made his way over to them. He kept his pace slow, since he was also the female trainer's support at the moment, and thus needed to make sure she could keep up. Once he got to the bag, he couldn't help but chuckle, since it seemed the girl's idea of him helping her was him keeping her steady while she dragged the heavy sack along. It would have been a lot more amusing if it wasn't for the fact that she was so bad off from her battle.
Once they were ready, the duo had a fairly uneventful walk back to Accumula, with Sable's Roselia keeping close to her trainer in case something happened. Jin didn't look all that comfortable wandering the streets, but he still kept close to Sable so that she wouldn't fall over. It didn't take very long for them to reach the town, and even less time for them to get to the Pokemon center once they were there. Thankfully, the nurse's Audino happened to be taking care of a few of the stray Pokemon that wandered about at night and was able to get Sable into the building.
Most of what happened next seemed like a blur to the teen. She had been ushered over to some bed or other, and the Audino had dragged the bag of balls to be sorted through later. Her own Pokemon had been taken from her to receive treatment, and she had been administered... Something. Whatever it was, it was supposed to help purge what was left of the poison from her body, and it did its job well as far as the teen could tell. Well, the purging part, anyway. After that, she was dragged over to another bed, had to drink some other set of medicine, and ended up falling asleep.
In the morning, Sable felt a lot better than she had earlier. Not enough to decide she was just gonna get up, but she certainly felt like she could handle getting up. Almost as soon as she did, she saw three pairs of big eyes staring up at her from her bedside. It had taken far less time for the teen's Pokemon to heal up than her, and they had been keeping an eye on her while they slept. The teen had barely scooted over a bit before both the Eevee and the Purrloin hopped up onto the bed and started nuzzling her. Sable couldn't help but laugh as her Snivy had a bit more trouble, then reached over to help him up.
After a bit of checking of her own to make sure that her Pokemon were alright, as well as a good breakfast for her and her team, Sable recalled all but her Snivy and left the building. Outside, snoozing while sitting against the side of a building, the teen spotted the guy that had helped her out. She gave a bit of a smirk, then shushed the Snivy on her shoulder as she tiptoed over to the other teen. She then crouched down when she was next to him and gave one of the grins he had given her so often when they first chatted before poking him.
Jin gave a little mumble at the poke, then opened his eyes to see what was going on. The first thing he saw was a face grinning at him, and his immediate reaction was to yelp and try to back away. As his back was up against a wall, all that ended up accomplishing was making him bang the back of his head against the wall and causing him to let out a louder yelp. He gave a bit of a glare while he rubbed the back of his head as he heard the person near him laugh, then laughed himself when he recognized just who had startled him.
"Hey! Looks like you're feeling better if you're pulling that sort of stuff!"Jin said as he stood up, still rubbing the back of his head. Sable chuckled and nodded as she straightened back up, then shot him a grin."Yeah. Good thing you showed up when you did, or else I'd be in some big trouble. Now that guy's the one that's gonna have a problem, and he's not gonna be able to just head into a Pokemon center to get his team healed up."
Jin nodded, then had an odd look as he glanced away for a moment. Looking back at the teen, he had a more serious expression."You know... You're a pretty good trainer. Reckless, but good. A-anyway..."Once again, the boy glanced away before focusing back onto Sable."I, uh, was wondering if you wouldn't mind me tagging along."
Sable couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at the seriousness of the teen's request, then quickly gave him a smile when she saw him glance away again."Yeah, sure, I don't have a problem with it. In fact, I'd prefer the company. If nothing else, it'll mean I have someone to drag my butt out of trouble when I get in over my head."The teen laughed a bit after making her last comment, and at least it got Jin smiling and chuckling again.
The boy flashed Sable a toothy smile, then seemed to recall something."Great! Oh, yeah, you wouldn't happen to have an extra Pokeball I could use, would you?"The request seemed like an odd one, but she had already figured the boy might have been a previous victim of the punk she chased off and, if it was too far back, might have had his Pokemon shipped off to someone else already. If that was the case, then obviously he'd need to catch his own Pokemon.
Nodding, Sable pulled out one of the Pokeballs she had and handed it over to Jin."Thanks, trainer,"he said to her before flashing a grin, his teeth looking quite a bit different - more pointed - than they had the last several times he had grinned at her. He then lightly tossed the ball into the air, and the red-haired trainer barely caught sight of a tail swishing behind Jin's back as the Pokeball landed on his head with a bounce and sucked him inside.
Sable stared at the ball in confusion as it didn't even bother to shake before letting out a soft pinging sound. The teen blinked a few times, then cautiously picked up the ball and pointed it in front of her to let out who or what was inside. Out popped a small fox-like Pokemon, mostly a dark grey with bits of red, and the teen simply shook her head in disbelief. The small Pokemon chuckled a bit, and she heard that familiar voice again, only this time it was echoing in her head.
"Guess I should have mentioned I'm a Zorua, huh?"Sable looked around to see where the voice could be coming from, then looked down at the small fox Pokemon. She blinked a few times, then crouched down to look at it a bit better."...Jin...?"she asked timidly, lightly poking at the little tuft of fur on the top of the Zorua's head. The fox Pokemon gave a nod, grinning at the teen.
Blinking a few times, Sable stood up and looked down at the dark type."...This... This is going to be weird..."she muttered, earning a snicker from the little fox."Don't worry, sis! You'll get used to it~"The cheery thought that was not her own echoed in Sable's head as the Zorua was surrounded by a purple light. In an instant, the fox was gone, replaced by the dark-haired, blue-eyed teen that was quickly tucking his tail up his black jacket so that it would stay hidden.
With how strange everything was, there was really only one thing that Sable could say."...Don't call me sis."Jin laughed a bit at that comment, then wrapped his arm around the teen's shoulder while being careful not to bother the Snivy who was busy snickering at the whole situation."Sure thing, sis~"he said cheerily, obviously having every intent for that to be his new nickname for the girl as the two of them made their way up to Striaton.

Shortly after Jin and Sable returned to Accumula, the disguised Zorua turned his head to look at his trainer."By the way, were you planning on naming your Snivy and Eevee?"he asked, eliciting a raised eyebrow from the teen with his question."What do you mean?"she asked back, not seeing what brought this question on."Well, I have my own name, and you named Rose and Scoundrel. What about the other two?"
Sable blinked a couple of times, and thought for a moment. The Roselia had come with her name, but she couldn't recall actually naming her Purrloin."When did I... Oh."As she spoke, the teen recalled that, while talking to Jin about the dark feline, she had referred to him as a scoundrel. That... Probably explained it, and with the realization of what had happened, she shook her head."I didn't name either of them. The person who sent me Rose gave her her name, and I had called that Purrloin a scoundrel. I didn't name him, so he must have decided he liked the sound of the word.
Jin gave another chuckle, then looked down at where the Eevee was padding along nearby."If that's the case, then what would you like her to call you?"he asked, giving the bundle of fluff more of a friendly smile than an amused grin. The Eevee thought for a little while, considering the question, then shook his head before nuzzling Sable's ankle."No idea yet, huh? That's fine,"Jin said with a chuckle, then grinned as the group continued on their way.

The walk through the city continued to be rather uneventful, as it seemed that they had showed up at about that time when everyone was busy. Jin kept craning his head to take in the sights as the disguised Zorua kept near his trainer. For the most part, Sable and her Eevee ignored the dark-haired male's curiosity as they made their way towards the town's southern exit.
