Ashley gave a nod in understanding to Scarlett’s response, "Ça c'est bon. I am sorry to hear that you are tired, I should hope you are getting good rest, non?" He gave another little nod, "I am well enough, merci beaucoup." That wasn’t too far from the truth, all things considered.
The corners of his lips twitched just a bit at the comment and a low chuckle escaped as he adjusted his glasses. "Ah non, unfortunately, I was called back to work shortly after I am afraid," Ashley replied, setting the menu on the table. "I should hope you were able to enjoy your time though?"
He paused in conversing as the waiter approached for their drink orders. "Un café noir s'il vous plaît. Sucre seulement," he spoke, watching the waiter as they headed off a moment before returning his attention to Scarlett and their pleasant conversation. He gave a little smirk of a smile, "That would depend; there iz nothing wrong with enjoying a traditional dish," Ashley commented, taking a glance back to the menu in thought. Was he hungry? Not entirely, but it was good to start the day with a meal all the same.
"Oh? Ze gyms?" He quirked an eyebrow a bit but nodded approvingly, "that would be wise to get ze gyms done while here. As for sites to see? Well, there are many," his smile grew a bit as he flourished his hands to the sides, "Kalos has many beautiful sites and landmarks of our glorious history to visit. Of course, beauty iz in ze eye of ze beholder, non? Tell me Madam Marquee, what are your interests? I am sure I could find something to help soothe ze wild spirit of yours."

Was she getting a decent amount of sleep? Scarlett wasn't.... Entirely sure. The past few days felt like a blur. "I am hoping that relaxing in Kalos will help me rest up." She answered ambivalently with a small smile. It seemed Ashe was possibly dealing with a similar state, well enough, but maybe not in the kind of condition one could hope to be in. Scarlett chalked that up partially to the fact that Ashe apparently hadn't been able to enjoy his vacation in Alola. "Ah... Désolé. That's a shame. You seemed like you needed the break. Perhaps we still have time to correct such a slight? I would hope you find traveling with me for a bit to be enjoyable at least, if not akin to a vacation of sorts." She suggested with a smile.
When Ashe turned the question back on her, Scarlett had to think a moment and recollect. After Ashe left.... Right, it was because Zak had finally finished up his egg hunting, and as per usual, the night with him had run hot and cold. She supposed she had gotten what she'd wanted in the end, but she still felt.... Odd. She hadn't even heard from him since then, which was both relieving and mildly disconcerting. Arceus, she needed to stop worrying about him; it was downright pathetic. She frowned for a moment and shoved the thoughts back into the corner of her mind. That confusing night aside, the events that followed had been more than pleasant enough to help her shake off the weird funk she'd been in. Beating Fatina, finishing her exploration of the Soleceon ruins, and having an incredibly fun and carefree night with MD. A gentle smile crossed her face at the memories. "Yes, I'd say overall, it was quite a fun week. Now, of course, I need to get back to training, and beating gyms but I like to try and have fun while I work. Besides, one does not simply pass through Kalos. It would be an offense to it's culture." She chuckled.
After ordering coffee, Scarlett glanced at Ashe. "Do you usually prefer coffee, or tea in the morning? Or does it depend on your mood?" She asked curiously, debating what she should order food-wise. "I like that answer." Scarlett chuckled, amused. Traditional, not tourist. She'd have to remember that. The waiter was back soon with their black coffee, placing a small sugar bowl near Ashe since he'd asked for it.
Scarlett used the opportunity to order her crepe with strawberries and cream and give Ashe the chance to order whatever he was hungry for before bringing up her "game plan" so to speak. Honestly she was grateful Ashe wasn't off put by her interest in taking on the gyms. "Yes, two pidgey, one stone, so to speak. I assume you have knowledge of the gyms here, if not first hand experience; is there any advice you can give me?" She asked curiously. "All I know is that Viola is an avid photographer, and a talented one at that, but otherwise I'm taking shots in the dark here, so to speak. And, as intriguing of a challenge that would make, I like being prepared if I can." She suggested with a smile. Really, if she wanted to, she could blow through the first few gyms using her strongest pokemon such that type matchups wouldn't even matter due to the sheer disparity in power, but what was the fun in that? Besides, the whole point of collecting badges from all these lower level gyms was so that she could train up her lower level pokemon.
Scarlett watched with amusement as Ashe talked about the glory of Kalos with an elegant flourish of his hands. "Landmarks and historical sites sound wonderful to me. I am a bit of a history buff; it pairs nicely with my interests as a linguist. After all, one must take an interest in history to truly appreciate the language of a region." She explained. "I also heard that the pokemon contests in Lumiose are something to see. I haven't dabbled too much in contests before, but I think it would be fun to try. And what grander stage to start than there?" She suggested with a bright smile. "I must confess that there is a small caveat as well—I'd prefer to avoid traveling through Laverre. I'm not ready for the gym there, and frankly the last time I traveled through the area, it gave me strange vibes, like there was something unnatural about it. Call me superstitious but...." She made a face and shook the eerie feeling off again as it started to creep up on her by the mere thought of the area. "I think you'll find that otherwise I'll be most agreeable to anywhere you decide to show me." She insisted quickly, trying to keep the subject light.

Ashley quietly observed Scarlett as she answered. Neither his face nor posture really portrayed what he was thinking. He did, however, produce a small smirk, nodding in appreciation to her concern. "Merci madam. Your concern iz appreciated," Ashley tilted his head back some, gently pushing the frame of his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
"I certainly intend too. In fact, I would say that recent fortune has made a vacation much more plausible. You have in fact caught me at ze best of time for your tour request." He commented. Which was absolutely true. He’d found his target after all, which made the whole of his job in the field pretty much done (as far as he was concerned) and not counting a few loose strings that needed to be wrapped up, Ashley could afford some leisure time.
Ashley chuckled. "There iz nothing wrong with wanting to get back to business so to speak. And there iz no finer place to do so than in Kalos," he wagged a finger slightly in the air in jest, as though a professor giving a lecture. "You are a wise woman, Madam Marquee. Making very wise choices," he chuckled once more turning his attention to his coffee as it was delivered, thanking the waiter and giving his own breakfast order. Adding a rather unhealthy amount of sugar into his drink and giving it a stir, he glanced to Scarlett at her inquiry. "I have no real preference if I am too be honest. I am not much of a coffee or tea drinker but whatever I can make sweet at ze time suffices for me. What of yourself?" He took a sip of his coffee, satisfied that it was probably disgustingly sweet enough for him to bother drinking.
Listening to her game plan he couldn’t help but smile. She was certainly a woman who knew how to make use of her time and that was something he could both admire and respect. He took a look to his breakfast plate which was composed of just two croissants and a little side of blueberry jam and butter. He took his knife and started to spread a bit of the contents onto one of the croissants as he continued the conversation. "Of course. Efficiency iz ze best course of action when applicable," he agreed, giving a bit of a smirk at her inquiry if he might be able to offer any tips for the gyms. "Of course, I would be more than happy to share what knowledge I have. Madam Viola is ze first of ze eight gyms in Kalos. She is indeed a renowned photographer; her gym also serves as a gallery of sorts for her various photographic endeavors. It is quite stunning. She uses it to display her love of nature I would assume as they are often the focus of her photos. It fits well with her use of bugs for her battles," he commented thoughtfully. "I am sure they will be of little effort for you. Ze bug types are not known for being strong after all." With that he took a bite of his breakfast. Light and delectable as always.
"Ah, a historian. Quite a rarity in this day; you must let me know, have you found ze remains of any lost civilizations? I would hope you would share these findings with the world, after you take ze credit of course," he joked, taking another sip of his coffee. "Oui, Kalos is home to many different events. Ze contests can be quite spectacular. We can certainly work in a viewing of one if you are interested." An eyebrow arched at her comment about not visiting Laverre if they could help it. Convenient and surprising actually. He had half a mind to inquire why she didn’t wish to visit, feeling that her comment on the eerieness wasn’t quite all there was to it. Instead though, he nodded "Of course, madam. Laverre’s charm iz not for everyone. I have just come from there myself and have no intention of going back so soon." He offered her a reassuring smile. "Ze gym out there is quite a ways out as iz, I would not concern yourself with having to visit again at this point. With that, would you like to head to ze gym then? We can begin with a tour of ze gallery there if you would like and I will see what I can think to show you after your battle that iz fitting of your interests."

Scarlett's smile widened a little, happy that he didn't see their little region-wide tour as a labor on his part. "Is that so? Well then, I'm happy to have caught you at such a fortuitous time." That seemed to be her MO; having the devil's own luck.
Though it was a vacation for Ashe, Scarlett was mostly here for business and training, however she was more than happy to do some sightseeing along the way. Her eyes narrowed with amusement as Ashe commended her for her wise choices. "Thank you. I do like to think of myself as an intelligent woman, but it's nice to get some confirmation every now and again." Getting her ego stroked wasn't half bad either. She'd almost forgotten what it was like, without the backhanded sass that usually came with any compliment that came from her associates.
When they got their coffee, Scarlett took a sip of hers, relishing the dark roasted flavor. She also found it quite interesting (and amusing) to watch Ashe pour an obscene amount of sugar into his. "You did not strike me as the type of man who had a sweet tooth." She commented, mirth clear in tone though her smile was hidden somewhat behind her cup as she took another sip and shifted to cross her legs at the ankles under the table. As a Kalos man with an elegant air and calligraphy as a hobby, Scarlett would have pegged him as the type who had a refined palette to match his other tastes, so his possible penchant for sweet things was...adorable, frankly. She paused to give a bit of thought to the question herself. "Tea if I want to relax, coffee if I need to wake up." Scarlett answered decisively. "Do you have a fondness for sweet things in general, or does it only apply to beverages?" She asked subtly.
Was she flirting? Not quite. Mostly she was curious. Ashe was interesting, and answers to little harmless questions like these often revealed a lot about someone's personality and how their thought process worked. Not to mention people were usually more willing to be completely honest about things like how they took their tea. Scarlett in this case was particularly interested in what sort of questions might make a normally composed man like Ashe give a more external response than a light smile and nod of approval or a pursing of the lips in frustration. She wanted to know where the boundaries were, what lines she could cross, and what lines could be bent. Would he grow uncomfortable or play along? Maybe he'd know of a few confectioneries if he truly liked sweets, or at the very least she might get an amusing reaction depending on how far he took the question. Either way, Scarlett would consider it a success. These were important things to know about someone she planned to be traveling with for any significant length of time.
Currently the vibe she got was clean cut, poised, punctual, calm and collected. Perhaps it was the pinstripes and tie she'd seen him in the first time they'd met, but he had that CEO feel about him. Friendly in a polite and reserved way so long as she stayed on his good side, though her track record on that so far seemed to be promising. The way he smiled at her suggestion of efficiency only reaffirmed these suspicions. Perhaps that was why she felt confident enough to push her luck. "A gallery? How eloquent. Though I suppose I should expect nothing less. I'd love to peruse her photos." She chuckled at the suggestion the bug types would be no issue and released Cleopatra from her pokeball. "Yes, I think we can handle squashing a few bugs, can't we Cleo darling?~" She crooned, beckoning the feline close and affectionately scritching her under the chin. The ankhat purred and contentedly mewled what seemed like an affirmation.
She chuckled at Ashe's teasing, trying not to show just how close he'd hit the mark. "Sadly yes, history lovers seem to be a dying breed." It probably didn't help that she was methodically picking off specific archaeologists too, but Scarlett kept that smug thought to herself, privately enjoying her little morbid play on words. "Oh I wish it were something that exciting, but unfortunately I'm no Indiana Jones. I just like reading about what's already been discovered and seeing it for myself. If I happen to find any lost civilizations though, you'll be the first to know. We can have ourselves a little adventure~" A bold faced lie but Scarlett told it easily. Now she had landmarks and contests to look forward to. "I suppose that is why they're called contest spectaculars, haha~ Ah, but yes, I would appreciate that, thank you." She nodded, though she felt quite relieved that Ashe was more than understanding about her reservations against Laverre. Though the fact that he'd just been there was an interesting point though, considering he sympathized with her on being wary of the strange little city and even seemed to commiserate some on not wanting to go back if he could help it.
Perhaps she could ask later. For now she finished up her crepes and wiped her mouth gently with her napkin. "Yes, I think that would be quite prudent. We can walk off our breakfast on the way there and around the gallery just in case there's a one hour rule concerning battles on top of swimming." She joked lightly.

The French man gave the slightest of a chuck and a smirk at the bit of boasting that Scarlett gave as he praised her choices. He found some humor in what was seemed to clearly be a pleasant ego boost for the woman. It wasn’t a normal thing for him to do to be honest and much like Scarlett experienced with other associates, it was very often an act of malice on his part. But in this case, it was genuine. She’d hardly given him a reason to be ‘that’ kind of person and thus, he played it cool.
Ashley took a sip of the coffee, taking a moment to determine that it was indeed sweet enough before providing Scarlett a slight but pleasant smile. "Ah, oui. You have caught me madam," he admitted, his tone a mocking mimic of what you might expect from a child caught with their hand in the cookie jar after being told there would be no sweets before dinner. He wasn’t too surprised though, there were quite a few things about him that people didn’t ‘expect’. It helped in the long run with his work and life, when individuals couldn’t see him coming and all.
He ‘mm’ed at the remarks - coffee to wake up and tea to relax was fairly the norm- and he took only a second to consider his own response to her inquiry. "It iz only with ze beverages, " he answered, followed up by another sip of the drink. Whatever coffee taste might have remained was drowned out by the excessive amount of sugar that had at this point liquidated and pooled at the bottom of the cup. Goodness. "And what of yourself? I should hope you enjoyed your crepes." They weren’t quite a sweet treat unless you filled them with something like chocolate, but for him, they counted as in that family for consideration all the same. As for the curiosity and inquiring ways Scarlett was asking her questions? Well, they certainly didn’t go unnoticed, but Ashley’s presentation didn’t seem to change.
"But of course," he chimed, relaxing back into his seat as he finished the last bits of his own breakfast. Light and filling, as it ought to be. He folded his hands together on the table, that mild smile still on his face as his gaze wandered briefly to the side as he considered the options. "I say you will find no other region with ze level of refined artistry that Kalos has," and his words sounded rather confident about that too. His tone wasn’t quite on that level of egotistical national pride; there were clear hints though that he thought highly of the region of his origin mixed with what came off as just stating facts. A chuckle escaped him again and he returned his gaze to her. " Ah, I feel almost sympathetic for ze poor pokemon who will face your battle prowess, madam Marquee."
"Ah what a shame. I agree we should seek to change that, non?" Ashley mused. He certainly was for finding some dangerous life-threatening situation. He lived for those thrills after all and it’d been such a long time since he’d engaged in such theatrics. "But of course, business first. It is best to keep one's priorities in check," for now. Nodding in agreement to her comment that it may be best they get moving, an eyebrow quirking in bemusement at her comment. "Ah I should certainly hope not, I would be displeased to have to wait to see your battle." With that he took to flagging down a waiter to get the check for their meal,
While they waited, Ashley’s gaze couldn’t help but shift to the cat-like pokemon she summoned, a clear look of curious interest crossing his face as it had earlier when the pokemon first appeared. He’d not seen a pokemon like that before. "Zat iz an interesting pokemon madam. Where did you acquire it?" It had an almost Egyptian theme to it; practically made for an individual who was interested in the ancient world. It was impressive how well it aligned with the historian herself and was equally just as amusing.

Scarlett flashed Ashe a look of amused approval when he admitted to his fondness for sweet drinks. Clearly she was not one to judge even though she was taking her own coffee black as sin. "Oh? That's a shame. Yes, I quite like sweets and these crepes were divine~ Nothing with straight sugar like most candy, but more pastries, baked goods, and chocolates I suppose? Ice cream is nice as well as long as the flavor isn't too overwhelming. I was hoping you might be able to direct me to the finest Kalos confectioneries you knew. I've heard good things about a famous galette made in Lumiose City?" She suggested, quietly noting that he didn't seem to notice the implications of her previous comment. That, or he was just very skilled about not showing it. Regardless, Scarlett was satisfied with this information.
"Which is something to be expected from a region with such a rich history in art and luxury." She suggested with a light chuckle of agreement when Ashe somewhat boasted Kalos' fine artistry. He was certainly boasting the region, but it didn't come off as all talk, not since Kalos had the reputation to back up his words such that it was more of a matter of fact rather than pure pride.
"Ha~ Your sympathy is well placed, but I'm not heartless. I'll be using some of my newer pokemon to battle the beginning gyms here. It wouldn't be much of a fight otherwise." And a one-sided fight was so dreadfully boring. She made exceptions of course when there were real threats, in a hurry, or if she was training, but the presence of Ashe's company somewhat demanded that she put on a more entertaining performance like the attention whore Scarlett could be. "Speaking of which, I don't believe I've had the pleasure of seeing any pokemon on your team yet. I'm curious, does your familiarity with Kalos gyms stem from personal experience as a trainer, or simply from common knowledge as a local?" Scarlett asked curiously. Subtler attempts to get him to divulge the information hadn't gotten her anything, so a more direct approach seemed necessary, which worked just fine now that it was the topic of conversation.
"Which should we change, monsieur Fontaine, the lack of historians, or the lack of adventure in my life?" She asked with a light laugh. A small part of her had no love lost for the dwindling number of people with any interest in digging up the past. It meant less competition, really, and a higher likelihood of finding and harnessing legendary power besides those who stumbled upon legendaries from sheer dumb luck like the annoying brat with the even more annoying rainbow assed suicune. An adventure, however, if they could find one, would be amazing, though she wondered how Ashe would fair in some of the escapades she had gotten into before. She would have to be unfortunately mindful about how well she personally performed in such a scenario though. A fumble here, a clumsy movement there, just to keep up appearances of a book smart historian with a hobby of spelunking into safe sites, not a hardcore ruins runner like herself.
While Ashe waved for the check, Scarlett pulled out a few bills from her satchel. "Please, allow me to chip in." She insisted, though she wouldn't fight him for the rights to pay if he insisted on handling it. When she handed over the money, her Xtransciever buzzed lightly with a notification of a text. Who the hell...? Scarlett's brows furrowed for a very brief moment, betraying her surprise and annoyance at the interruption. Few people had her number, and she didn't give it out to just anyone, so the fact that she was getting a text now was.... Surprising. Her mind flashed immediately to Zak, but she violently dismissed the thought. Perhaps it was Cat checking in with her usual terrible timing, or maybe MD had sensed his ears burning because she'd been thinking of him. In any case, she ignored the text for now in favor of not being rude to her current company. However, the buzzing continued in rapid succession, and Scarlett was forced to glance at the ID. All the texts were from a number she didn't recognize, so she quickly changed the settings to silence the communicator with a small frown of annoyance before turning her attention back to Ashe.
She smiled rather innocently when he asked about Cleopatra. "Oh! It's quite a story actually. I was wondering around the Desert Resort in Unova when I found this cute scarab bracelet in the sand, and here I thought someone had lost theirs, but wouldn't you know, it actually turned out to be a pokemon! Of course I only found out after she evolved. All I know is that the pokedex says she's something called an ankhat. She's quite beautiful, I must say, and fitting for a history loving woman like me, so I kept her." The story was an easy lie. She couldn't very well tell him about the unown escapades that she'd found the scarave in after just professing how she hadn't had any adventures. That, and she had many other reasons for lying, such as the blue orb she'd found it carrying. That was her little secret. Well... That and MD's. Though she doubted, or perhaps hoped, that he didn't know what exactly she had found in those ruins and their significance.

Once she was inside, she glanced around quickly, mussing her hair in the mirror to look like she actually belonged there while making sure the coast was clear and checking her texts. As it turned out, the texts she had gotten earlier were mostly image files. "What the actual ********> She snarled. That outfit... Wasn't that what she was wearing at the halloween event??? Yeah, that explained it. Somehow Niji had gotten ahold of her number and was now spamming photos of herself like the stalker he was. The text between all the photos confirmed it as he mentioned it was him and not to text back because this was Arezu's phone. Like she'd text him back regardless. She had half a mind to block the number but it sounded like he wasn't going to use Arezu's phone in the future? She supposed then if he got another device and was being annoying, it would be a good idea to keep Arezu's number to ask her to handle Niji maybe. The little brat seemed just as annoyed with Niji's antics as Scarlett at the very least.
Suddenly another text came up. Why the hell was everyone and their mother texting her right now??? Scarlett sighed and opened the message to see who it was at least before deciding whether or not to ignore it.

Scarlett's eyes narrowed. Was that really all he had to say? They hadn't talked for weeks, possibly even months, not that she was counting. It wasn't even really the length of time that bothered her, really, just.... Given where they had left off, and now he was picking back up with a badge check... Honestly, she wasn't sure why she was so irritated by it. What was she expecting, a 'hey, haven't talked in a while' or 'how are you doing'...? This was Zak she was talking to here. Basically every conversation they'd had before started this way. Why was she expecting some kind of special attention or treatment? She took a moment to try and clear her head so that she didn't continue to think so irrationally. The fact that he was texting her at all was.... Something. Not particularly good or bad.

They're coming, though I took a slight detour for some personal interests. To be fair, I am actively collecting badges as we speak, they just aren't the ones that matter to you. It wasn't as playful or flirty as their usual banter, but then again it had been a while since they'd talked, and frankly, she wasn't feeling it. She wasn't sure why, but it felt like she'd been splashed with cold water, a reality check, and a familiar sense of necessary detachment washed over her as she tried not to let this get to her as much as it strangely did. She sent the text and was going to let that be the end of it. A report on her status for him to do with as he would. There was no need to send anything else. Just leave it be. Walk out and go rejoin Ashe.

She opened her Xtrasciever and furiously typed out another message.

How have you been, by the way? It's been a while since we last talked.
She sent it before she could stop herself and then stared at the message for a little while, mentally kicking herself for giving in. Honestly, the worst part was how she knew he wasn't going to know or care how much she'd thought about her response. He might not even text her back. Who the hell knew? "Ya're outta yer ********' mind Scar...." She grumbled to herself, stepping up to the sink and splashing her cheeks with a little bit of water. Much as she wanted to wash her whole face right now, it would ruin her makeup, so instead she took a deep breath, and turned to walk back out of the bathroom. First she went to find Ashe, giving him a pleasant smile once she saw him. "Sorry about that. Shall we?" She asked, starting towards the direction of the gym. She'd keep her xtransciever on silent for now and just discreetly check in on it every now and again when she got the chance, that way she wouldn't be too distracted, or distracting from her time with Ashe.

Ashley listened with that same level of constrained interest that he’d been maintaining this entire time, as Scarlett answered the question concerning sugar in turn. "Ah, oui! Of course, there are many pâtisseries in Kalos," he thought a moment on her suggestion, adjusting his glasses a bit as he did. "Oui, oui. It iz quite popular amongst ze locals and tourists alike. Galette iz a very simple and diverse dish." He smiled. "I am sure it would make a fine victory treat for ze many battles you will have had at that point."
Ashley tilted his head just a bit as Scarlett mentioned she’d be using new pokemon as to keep the fight from being boring and unfair, the slightest hints of a grin on his face. That was something he could understand wholeheartedly. Where was the fun when the challenge was easy? "Ah, allowing ze new ones to get their ‘feet wet’ as they say. That iz an excellent use of ze first gyms of a region; after all, it iz not often ze challenger is already an established combatant," which begged the question of how often that was happening anyways? Ashley certainly hadn’t hazarded the thought of visiting any gyms outside of Kalos. He’d barely intended to visit the ones in Kalos, but that was a job requirement. Or a time wasting task really, since it was painfully clear Lyndon was about as on board with working with him as he was him. He ought to contact him when he had a moment, just because the man deserved it.
"Ah, you would be interested in seeing my team?" He sounded a bit… surprised? No that wasn’t it; it might’ve read as a surprise to someone not really paying attention, but something about it was more of an interesting curiosity at the inquiry. Of course, it made sense, this was a world full of pokemon and people had teams. It had just never crossed his mind to share. "It would be a pleasure to introduce you if you would like to meet them. I am reminded that I must retrieve them after all; they are currently out training as instructed." Or they were supposed to be anyways, he wasn’t one to really keep tabs on that sort of thing. Alphonse was free to do what Alphonse thought best. "I believe it being ze place of my birth iz ze major contributor to my knowledge, as well as my work. It often has me travelling to different places and regions, though . I would say as a trainer I am simply a novice," he admitted nonchalantly. He didn’t sound to put off admitting this information. "Perchance you can enlighten me to some of ze finer points of being a trainer? I have only a few badges and I am sure there iz much to learn" there was certainly something to knowing how to utilize a team. He might as well pick up some trips and tricks if they were out there and Scarlett certainly seemed the competent type to learn from.
"Hm… I would say… ze adventure of course," he smirked, finishing the last of his drink. "Anyone can become a historian with a little bit of reading, non? But ze adventurers, now that iz something only a select few are suited to experience and tell about," and for once he allowed an actual smirk on his face, eyes seeming to twinkle just a bit at the idea. He certainly couldn’t help but entertain the idea of a dangerous foray into lost ruins of old. They were likely riddled with dangers.
He liked danger.
"Non, ne vous inquiétez pas," He said, raising a hand up in the standard ‘stop’ fashion as he shook his head. "Allow me. Please, you should save your money for ze souvenirs I am sure you will want to acquire," he commented jokingly and pulled out his own wallet to take care of the tab once the waiter brought it. With the card handed over, he settled in until it was returned, noticing the shifting looks on Scarlett’s face as the sound of a communicator went off. It seemed she was getting quite the messages; someone was certainly aching to get her attention which he could only quirk an eyebrow in interest.

There was no questioning what that was about and instead, he followed suit with the conversation as it turned to the odd pokemon that Scarlett had released. He gave Cleopatra, listening with interest at the story that was recounted. A scarab bracelet in the desert, hm? Very convenient, and that didn’t go unnoticed by the French man, but he showed nothing on his face to indicate otherwise. "Ah I see. That iz a fascinating and fortunate discovery, madam." He leaned back in his seat. "Ze Desert Resort that leads to ze Relic Castle, non? I hear that iz one of Unova’s finer pieces of history. Where you perchance there for a visit as well?" he remarked, curious to see if he was correct in his assumptions. Seemed rather odd to be visiting such a place otherwise; it wasn’t exactly a beach resort like in Alola.
"But of course," he nodded, watching as she excused herself. The waiter returned with the receipt and he thanked the man, signing the restaurant copy before neatly folding his own, tucking it and his card back into his wallet. He took this opportunity as well to pull out his own communicator, sending a little signal to Alphonse via the chip in his pokeball to alert him that it was time to meet up before sending an ever so pleasant text off to Lyndon to let him know that he hadn’t forgotten about that little costume he’d made him wear and just for it, he ought to expect a pleasant ‘surprise’ from the French man in the future. With that, he tucked the device away and gathered his things, giving his gloves an absent tug for good measure and heading to the doors to wait for Scarlett. When she appeared he gave her a pleasant smile and a nod.
"Of course, if you are ready. If you would not mind, I will need to pass by ze fountain at ze center of ze town to retrieve pokemon. I should hope that iz, not a bother?" Ashley asked as they started to walk, heading out from the restaurant and towards the direction that the gym resided; not too far a walk thankfully. Of course, if she chose to deviate to the gym first he was not going to stop her. His team could wait. They knew how to take care of themselves.

Upon leaving the store, Fumi looked for the nearest bench to sit on. Luckily it wasn't too far away from her previous location as she needed to sort through all items she had won from the drawing. Once seated, the girl placed each and every item in her bag before staring it for a while, trying to guess what it might be used for. When the last item in the prize basket was placed in her bag, Fumi looked at her Chespin who seemed to be gawking at the flute he had just received. The grass type Pokemon seemed as curious as she was in wanting to understand the item, though their reasonings for wanting to know probably differed. At least that's what Fumi thought. Pins seemed to be more interested in how the sunlight would hit the flute rather than its function.
As Pins continued to play with the flute's light's reflection, he seemed to get attract the attention of a seemingly displeased wild Litleo from a nearby patch of grass. Judging by the way the lion cub Pokemon was glaring at the flute's light's reflection, Fumi could only guess that the fire type's irritation was because of something her partner did, be it his intention or not. Her suspicion was soon somewhat confirmed as the wild Pokemon angrily growled at Pins, looking like it was ready to fight. "Okay Pins-" Before she could utter any other words out to calm the situation, the now startled Pins frighteningly went on the attack, whipping out his vines at the Litleo. And with that a new battle had started, prompting the amber-eyed girl to rub her temples in frustration. She knew he didn't do it on purpose(both the irritating the Litleo and starting a battle), but she was starting to wonder if she was cut out for this. This was a thought for later of course as they had more pressing matters to tend to. The Litleo seemed just as startled by the sudden attack that he could only leer back at her Pokemon. "Pins! Vine whip one more time!" She commanded Pins in an attempt to get back control over him. Jolted out of his surprised disposition, the grass starter followed through with the command and knocked out the poor Litleo, ending the battle. And without missing a beat, Fumi took out an empty pokeball as if on autopilot sealing the deal and adding another team member to her roster. 'Ah shoot... Was that a good idea?' Too late to ask that now...

After Fumi picked up the pokeball containing her newest teammate, she made her way towards her Chespin, who still appeared to be feeling mixed emotions of confused and surprised. Observing his behavior for a while longer, the female trainer was at a loss; she knew enough to understand that this was a situation where she was supposed to make her Pokemon feel better, but how would one go about doing this? Leaving the situation as it was was not an option for her, not if she wanted to properly form a 'good relationship with a pokepal' as her brother would say. This was quite a problem too as she had never had to console anyone before... She did remember being consoled at some point though. She had to have had been, right? The girl didn't have any many close friends since young so that angle wasn't a viable memory source. Thinking back, like way waay back, she remembered that her family was the only occurrence at the top of her head where she might have witnessed it first hand. Now what did they do again? "Uh... There... There?" she said with obvious signs of hesitation as she gently rubbed Pins' head, kneeling down to meet his eye level. Sure, this worked for her when she was a child, but would this work on a Pokemon? "You did uhh... good?" she added in an attempt to ease the awkwardness she was experiencing. "You're safe now." That last part was she said with certainty as she was sure of that.
When Fumi was going through mental gymnastics, the Chespin already seemed over everything. He did however feel comfort in knowing that his trainer was trying to make him feel better and welcomed her hand on his head and responded with a nuzzling the back of her hand. Once that was done, she needed to lay some more ground rules so that this wouldn't happen again. "Um... I know that you were scared, but you shouldn't attack without my command. Next time look for me first," she said unintentionally sternly with a face of annoyance. The girl really didn't know how to handle this, making her actions all the more awkward. Luckily for her Pins was almost used to her behavior and thought nothing of it. He simply nodded as if he understood with happily chirp. Only time would tell if he really understood what she meant.
'Is this good now?' The girl was still unsure, but didn't want to dwell on it any further and considered it done with. Now with this small business hopefully behind her, she could now press on to other things. Namely seeing how the Litleo she just captured was doing.

Now Fumi thought about it, she had yet to check on the Bunnelby she had captured earlier as well. After getting the white flute back from the 'troublemaker,' she contemplated whether having the Bunnelby and Pins out would be a good idea or not, seeing as she obviously didn't have a good handle on the grass type yet and she didn't know how the normal type would normally react. As she was staring at Nelby's pokeball, the girl took her starter's pokeball off of her belt in preparation to let him return. "Hey Pins, I'll let you rest for a bit in here, okay?" Nodding in agreement, the rodent-like Pokemon allowed himself to be returned into his ball. He had fought a few battles already and despite his energetic demeanor she figured that he might've been tired and from his reaction she assumed right.

With Pins now resting in his Pokeball, Fumi finally released the Bunnelby she had captured earlier. As the light faded to reveal the bunny Pokemon fluffy silhouette, the girl's heart couldn't help but leap. From the normal type's fluffy looking mane to its bushy looking tail, it took almost took every fiber of her being to not enthusiastically hug the buck-toothed Pokemon. This was all done internally of course, her face remained as indifferent as ever, though her eyes were sparkling a little and her fingers twitching ever so slightly every now and then. "Um hello there! My name is Fumi and I'll be your trainer from now on." she spoke rather calmly despite her inner excitement trying to take over, kneeling so that they could be at a similar eye level. The Bunnelby's ears twitched, vigilantly watching the trainer as Fumi approached her, but ultimately let her guard down when she understood that the girl meant no harm. 'So far so good...' Fumi thought in terms of the Pokemon's behavior, feeling thankful that the Bunnelby didn't outright reject her. "It's nice to meet you... Uh-" Oh right, she still hadn't named the Pokemon yet. "Nelby?" she asked, hoping that the bunny Pokemon would take to the name. The digging Pokemon blinked at the girl, cocking her head back and forth until she understood that girl had given her a name. "Nelby!" the Pokemon hopped in place before striking a pose in approval. Fumi sighed in relief. It seemed like she was worrying for nothing as everything went smoothly. To wrap things up, Fumi took out her Pokedex to scan the normal type, after getting Nelby's permission of course.
'It has ears like shovels. Digging holes strengthens its ears so much that they can sever thick roots effortlessly.'
"Thank you Nelby. I'll be counting on you from now on," the amber-eyed girl told the Bunnelby before returning her into her ball. When that was said and done, the girl let out another sigh of relief. Truth be told, she'd never been around so many new and unfamiliar beings she'd have to take care of before, and it was getting emotionally tiring. She was enjoying almost every moment of it, but she still needed some rest. At least until she really got used to it anyway.

Fumi rested for a few minutes by herself on a bench near the Pokemon Center. While she was doing so, she was wondering whether her training methods were of out the ordinary or inefficient compared to others; it was a terrible comparison habit she learned from her school days that was sadly not going to go away anytime soon. The only thing she could use as a trainer example was her brother and he wasn't exactly the spitting image of 'normal' either. Regardless of whether it was or wasn't, she'd press through.
Feeling comfortable enough to formally meet the newest addition to the team, Fumi got up from the bench and threw the Litleo's pokeball to release it from its hold. Like the Bunnelby species, she was more or less familiar with Litleo as she had seen a few around her house before. "Hello there. My name is Fumi," The girl spoke less hesitantly than she did with Nelby. Maybe she was getting more used to it by now? "Let's get along now, okay?" Fumi said as she slowly raised her hand to pet the lion cub Pokemon. While she was petting her newest friend, she also took the opportunity to scan the fire type.
'They set off on their own from their pride and live by themselves to become stronger. These hot-blooded Pokémon are quick to fight.'
There was one more thing she needed to do before she could resume training. "How does Leo sound for a name?" the purple-haired trainer asked the Litleo. The Pokemon didn't seem to mind it either way, so Fumi took it as a sign of acceptance. And like the encounter with Nelby everything went about smoothly and returned Leo into her ball. 'Another thing checked off the list,' she thought as she stretched a bit, getting ready for what was to come next. She really needed to train her Pokemon if she wanted to stand a chance against the first gym leader after all.

After stretching, Fumi went on the search for an opponent in a patch of tall grass nearby. It didn't take long for her to find a wild Pokemon moving about. The Pokemon was quite easy to see spot with its blue fur clearly popping out from the greenery. As soon as the wild Pokemon noticed her presence, the girl took the opportunity to release Pins from his pokeball and grabbed her pokedex to scan it as she didn't recognize the species.

'So it's a fighting type...' That information didn't help her much at the moment since she still wasn't completely familiar with typing strengths and weaknesses, but knowing was a good start in her eyes at least. While she was looking at her pokedex, the Riolu took the opportunity to make the first move. Fumi didn't really understand what it had done, but there wasn't any damage done to Pins and saw it as a good time to retaliate. "Pins! Use Vine Whip on the Riolu!" Following through, the Chespin's vines struck the wild Pokemon to the ground before it quickly recovered and lunged at her Pokemon, hitting Pins in his torso. While the blow to the torso looked like it hurt, Fumi noticed that the other Pokemon seemed on his last legs, the perfect time to land the last blow. "Vine Whip one more time Pins!" One more attack from Pins and the battle was over. Yet again, before she could think the girl through a free pokeball to capture the blue Pokemon. She didn't even realized what she did until she picked up the pokeball. Once she did though, she resigned herself into keeping yet another team member. "You did great," she told the Chespin who seemed to be content with his victory.
