Character Guidelines
The Journals forum is the place to keep all your characters together in one thread. This forum is for individual sheets only. Thanks!
Tears of the Moon is a high fantasy setting. Please steer clear of anything from the modern world (such as cars, stereos, Ipods, and anything to do with plastic) or sci-fi (such as ray guns, aliens, or spaceships). If you want your drow to have a particular fascination with the construction of complicated golems and magical constructs, that's fine, but silicon chips and computers and robotics are not.
Characters should be drow. Not vampires-that-used-to-be-drow. Not demon-posessed-husks-that-look-like-drow. Not lycanthropy-infected drow. Just drow.
(No, not surface elves either. Not at the moment.)
Each culture within Tears of the Moon has different biases that can have profound effects on the citizenry. There is gender inequality, class discrimination, corruption, and iniquity aplenty. These present excellent opportunity for character development and drama. Don't be afraid of them, don't avoid them- use them to your advantage!
You're welcome to use art in your profiles that didn't come from Tears of the Moon. Indeed, there's a whole section of mini-shops devoted to just that sort of thing! Just make sure that the art was either created by you, or that you have permission to use it. Art theft will not be tolerated.
As has been mentioned elsewhere- feel free to make stuff up! This is a world with multiple cultures, economies, and ecologies all its own. There's no way we can cover every single inch of the deep reaches and describe everything to be found there, and we're not going to try. If you find the Library lacks a particular bit of information you need, invent the answer!
Drow are allowed be mages, but there are certain restrictions placed on magic abilities to ensure fairness. Please consult the Magic thread for more information.
Character Sheets
First of all, you don't have to have any pet art to start roleplaying with us! All you need is an approved character sheet, and you're in exactly the right place to get one.
There are just a few things to keep in mind:
- You can't play a character with a oura’thir unless you've got an oura’thir to give them.
You can't roleplay a drow character until it is approved. (Don't panic! We're not looking for flawless literature, just making sure that the character is consistent with the setting. If you're worried, have a second look at the Character Guidelines above.)
Each drow can only ever have one oura’thir.
The title of your post should be your character's name, followed by their oura’thir's name, if they have one. It should be preceded by one of the following tags:
- (U) for characters from the Underhollow.
(C) for characters from Cissilith.
(N) for characters from a nomadic tribe.
So as an example, a drow named Tweedle with an oura’thir named Dee who was from the Underhollow would have a thread title that looked like this:
(U)Tweedle and Dee
Also, we highly recommend that each sheet include a record of roleplay point expenditures applied to the character. A link to each page where an expenditure was posted would be most helpful.
After that, the content and structure of your character's profile is completely up to you! Just try to give us enough information that we have a good feel for your character.
To get your character approved, please fill out the following form and post it in this thread:
