Personality/ Background: Seidel didn't come from a happy little herd in the Hartlands. In fact Seidel hailed from the shared forests of bear country and the monasteries of Lavin that rested on the edge of the world he had come to know. Born into Lavinism, Seidel and his twin Morran were taught from birth their ways of pacifism, purity, and prayer. Their parents ran the most prestigious monk prep school in the area and had constant contact with the Guardian Lavin.
As children of the Guardian's favorites, they were taken to Lavin to be evaluated and given strict lessons in their religion. Morran couldn't have done batter. he was the pride of his parents and the guardian. A true Lavinite. Seidel on the other hand, was not. Now they both were strong and smart with a desire to learn...photographic memories for prayers and ancient scrolls...but Seidel was simply different. He didn't believe blindly in anything he was told...questions. There were always questions. His hair and eyes...they weren't fair like the rest of the herd...and his body wasn't lithe and graceful. He was tall and strong. While he tried his best to be an ultimate pacisfist...Seidel failed. He always had the desire to protect Morran. So much that they were rarely ever apart. Their parents tried to separate them at night as they worried Seidel would keep poor Morran up with his prayers of forgiveness that often kept Seidel praying far into the morning.
It didn't take long for their parents and Lavin to decide that the reason Morran was so perfect could only be that Seidel was the bi product. Everything a Lavinite shouldn't be. Ashamed that such a thing came out of her womb, Seidel's mother decided that he would have to be abandoned in order to protect Morran and the family's reputation. He begged to be forgiven...that he could change and be a help to Morran. None of it mattered. As they sent Morran off to study at the monastery, they took Seidel out into the rouge bears lands at night and simply left him there. Perhaps the bears would rid them of his shame and he could go live by Lavin's side as a spirit.
Instead of ridding the world of a mistake, the rouge bears never found Seidel. It was the other bears that took Seidel into their way of life and tried to raise him well. It was hard at first..almost impossible to get Seidel to relax his religious beliefs and really begin to live they way they thought suited him. After all...he had way too much spunk and a horrible stubborn streak to be one of those stuck up, useless Lavinites. Taking the boys bitter anger, the bears taught him to use his meditations to gain strength for fighting. Eventually they were able to teach him basic fighting theory and exercises...he even started to eat meat. After all, he would need to eat more protein in order to fight with his fellow bears or make his way back to his heard and Morran. Seidel couldn't just leave his twin all alone.
It took years, but Seidel had eventually become a tactical fighter strong enough to make his way back through rouge bear country and visit his brother. Only... when he arrived at the monastery, Seidel didn't find the welcome he had been expecting. Morran had spent countless hours under strict religious training. He no longer believed that Seidel was ever going to be Lavin material. Even if he was allowed back into the monastery and religion...he would never make it. A blemish on the family. For the first time in their lives, the twins had an argument. An argument that Morran thought left things final...and Seidel thought left them wrong.
Spending the night outside of the monastery, he hoped that Morran would cool down and be able to see reason in the morning. But morning wouldn't come. Woken by the scent of smoke and the sound of screams...Seidel raced back to the monastery to find it under attack. Rouges. It was the time to make a choice. Was he going to be a monk or was he going to be a violent and blasphemous blemish upon his family tree? Blemish sounded about right. Rushing into the fray, Seidel fought his way through the flames and bears slaughtering the Lavinites that wouldn't even stand to defend themselves. He was covered in ash and blood by the time he found Morran. The perfect Lavinite simply sitting on the ground and singing out in prayer as his friends are murdered next to him.
That was when things got a little fuzzy. He wasn't sure how he managed to take out the first two...but by the time he got to the third bear it was too late. Seidel watched helpless as the bear took the one thing that could break him. Break him enough to renounce everything Lavin had even taught him. What good were his teachings in a world such as this? Knowing his brother's wound was beyond help, Seidel set himself upon bear until he heard a firm crack and had to pull himself out from underneath the fallen foes girth. Crawling up to Morran on his belly, he ignored the life of his brother soaking into his fur and ground about them. "Mo-Morran...I'm sorry...don't...you can't leave.."
Morran's eyes flickered about the world around him until they fell on his brother soaked in red. "I fo-forgive you...la-" he coughed and trialed off. Seidel nosing him gently.
"I don't care about Lavin Morran...don't tal-"
"Lavin...for-forgives...trust...trust in...him. Love...love you...Sei." Trust in Lavin?! Seidel wanted to find that stupid mystical high horse and show him the efforts of his teaching right now. The failure. The most gentle and brilliant and...awesome brother now gone. Dead. There were other screams...the sound of already crumbling buildings becoming greater ruins. Flames flickered in his eyes and he wasn't sure if it was his anger or actual fire. Probably both. Tears streaming down his fur, he didn't even know he was crying. He didn't feel it. He didn't feel much of anything.
The fire having attracted attention, some of the neutral bears had come to the monastery's aid. Leaving his brother's side, Seidel walked back into the fight with no intentions of leaving this place alive. if it weren't for the neutral bears that pulled him and several other herla out by force...he probably would have died.
Going back to the aftermath, Seidel only reinforced his new found hatred of religion. After an internal battle, he decided to take his brothers prayer beads and keep them with him. Perhaps Morran's spirit would stay with him instead going to Lavin. Morran would hate that...he didn't care. Lavin didn't deserve Morrran.
Looking around at the survivors, he literally felt sick at watching them pray to a so called god that let this atrocity take place. His eyes fell on Faun, his brothers best friend since childhood. Prayer...he wanted to slap him with his wing but doubted that it would do any good at all. Limping his way over to him, he sat down next to him and decided that from then on he would keep Faun safe. Faun unfortunately decided he would help Seidel see the way of Lavin.
Seidel and Faun by relation found it impossible to return their homes or remain with the lavinites. They were bathed in violence and everything that was sinful. Tired of being ostracized for saving their lives...Seidel decided to journey somewhere not populated with idiots. Saying goodbye to the bears that raised him, Seidel and Faun set out for this place called the hartlands. Perhaps this supposed peaceful place would satisfy Faun's need for stability and Seidel's own distance requirement. Maybe once they were there...he could come out to Faun with his feelings he had slowly developed for him...not until they were there though. Faun needed to be far away from home to even consider something so sinful in their homeland.
It was a long and difficult journey for both of them. Faun was helpless and Seidel would of had a hard time just getting himself from point A to B. There was little food...the change of seasons...the swamps. The swamps were the worst. The swamps took a toll...and yet again the toll was the wrong one. Why did he always get passed over when the toll was due? Faun had gone off in search of food one morning...without Seidel. He had wanted to surprise him of course. The surprise was simply more morbid than Faun had originally planned. Seidel woke up to find Faun missing a leg and a creature that he could have never imagined mashing on it. It was a blur again...but he soon found himself praying frantically over Faun's body. Maybe...just maybe if he focused on his brothers faith he could help heal Faun. But maybe's and faith just wasn't something that worked out for Seidel. The wound was far too big...and perhaps Lavin was just laughing at him. There were no final words for Faun...just a damp, moldy and tattered book that seemed to say something like...recipes on the front. And a page...a page was marked. It said pancakes.
The trip was just a trip after that. The destination didn't really matter as long as it was far...far away. Once he reached the hartlands there was nothing left. Nothing but memories and set of his brothers beads.
Likes: Fighting, pancakes, meditation, sarcasm, younger herla
Dislikes: Romantic attention, his appearance, most bears, Lavinism, expectations, being the one to survive
Powers: The beads worn about Seidel's neck are a special privilege given to those who dedicate their lives to Lavin as monks. It is believed by the guardian Lavin and those who follow him, that when a monk prays with this holy article they are able to speed up the healing process of an ailing herla. if the herla abandons Lavin, than the beads are returned and the herla no longer has this prayer ability. They refer to this as their prayer majyk. While Seidel was never granted this gift, he kept the beads of his dead twin brother Morran in order to keep his spirit close to him.
In reality, the prayers do absolutely nothing. The beads are made from "holy" or radioactive ground. When exposed to the beads in close quarters, a herla may experience an increase in their ability to heal injuries or fight illness. Herla such as Seidel that have prolonged exposure throughout their lifetime endure minor mutations to their natural form. The Lavinites believe that dedicating their life to this prayer majyk allows them to live in his image. In reality the radioactive beads mutate the pigments in their hair, eyes, and fur. They also alter any wing growth into highly stylized and almost curled feathers. it has also been known to cause shimmering. Unfortunately, if the beads are left on for the majority of the herla's lifetime, they may develop a form a cancer. Due to this shortening the herds general life expectancy, all Lavinites are expected to mate or have fawns before they become middle aged.
