The Goddess looks down at you, one hand gently running over the curved blade of the scythe as if it was a favored pet. "You must face your Fears. Eat or be eaten. That is the way of it here. Were it another time... I wonder which one you would be?"
She drops down from her perch and approaches you, circling you and looking you up and down. "I wonder indeed. Perhaps we shall solve this little mystery? Take this." She hands you a small jeweled dagger. It is a simple blade set with a stone, and from it dangles what looks to be a small claw of some sort.
"That should be more than enough," the Goddess continues. "You will need to learn to fend for yourself, to take on your challenges and judge for yourself what it means to sacrifice. That is the only way you will become stronger, else you'll fall prey to someone greater still." As she speaks the blade of the knife begins to rust, stained with a dark color reminiscent of Ruin.
"You are ready." She announces, gesturing with her scythe. "Go." Her bright glowing eyes are on you until you finally move towards a thin opening. You can still feel her gaze on you even after you leave her presence.
OOC: THE JOURNEY
THE Chase
- When your character is ready, they will be participating in the Day 2 Goddess Task - The Day 2 Goddess Task is a continuation of the series of events that unfold with your character's memories. If your character has NOT completed Task 1, that is fine, they may just start Task 2, as a new thing. - Your character needs to complete all three steps listed in the OOC for the Day 2 (Chase) tasks for each part before completing it successfully. Once you are done, return here and read the last post Defeat or Defeated post (below). Do NOT read the post below until you have completed the Day 2 task link:
Do NOT read the post until you have finished your TASK 2 JOURNEY OR hit a Game Over. This is the LAST thing you need to do to complete Task 2
If you became prey, you look towards your chest instinctively, but thankfully your Heart was not actually taken. In the center of the temple is the Goddess, now in statue form. It is accompanied by the other familiar two.
Examine the plaque:
The Task is complete. Eat or be eaten, predator or prey. Return your Dagger to where it belongs.
There are only two blank podiums next to this statue. They seem to be glowing.
Examine the plaque: Prey
Sacrifice for the greater good. This is the law of those who are eaten.
Examine the plaque: Predator
Sacrifice others for the greater good. This is the law of those who eat.
OOC: THE RETURN
[ Eat or be Eaten: ] In THIS thread, after you have finished your Task 2 journey and filled your Journey thread with the correct prompts choose one of the two pedestals.
gaia_crown[ For those who hit a DEAD END] You must return your dagger to the prey podium. Trying the other will yield an unfavourable result and your character will be trapped in this space until they do the right action.
gaia_crown[ For those who managed to escape and defeat the follower ] You must return your dagger to the predator podium. Trying the other will yield an unfavourable result and your character will be trapped in this space until they do the right action.
- When you are done with that, go back to the Shrine and you can finally claim credit for this task and post it to your Heart Log. Remember, you cannot claim this task until all your Journey posts are filled out. You get the Heart for Task 2 PASS OR FAIL, as long as you completed it until you hit GAME OVER. - After you sacrifice this the bitter memory of your encounter with this figure in their past fades, but not the memory of your heart being torn, if you became Prey

She awoke with a gasp, followed shortly by a whimper of horror as she crawled several feet away from where she'd been, until she finally parsed that she was not being chased. Naian pressed both hands to her chest and swayed. She moved towards the pedestals mechanically. The dagger was on the floor, she realized, and picked it up.
Predator.
Prey.
With a hollow laugh that held an edge of hysteria, she dropped her dagger on the Prey pedestal.

Decyl woke up swearing. His breath was ragged and he couldn't stop his hands from trembling. It was terrifying as the feeling of dread filled him and it took a while before he could get a grip on reality.
He swore again.
Slowly pushing himself up to drop off the dagger to the podium, he couldn't help but feel that he was dragging himself. Ugh. The task, and this feeling of terror angers him for some reason, and while it was not the best of actions, Decyl threw the dagger at the Prey Podium.

Axel awoke in a cold sweat, jumping to his feet with the dagger held defensively in front of him while he panted in fear and adrenaline. Nothing was attacking him, he assessed after a brief moment of intense staring at all corners of the room. There was only the statues of the Goddesses, and the two pedestals.
Dropping his arms and sighing, the man walked to the Prey stone hunched over, a large frown creasing his face. He hadn't been good enough to sacrifice the other, but instead was sacrificed himself. His heart, however, was still there. Perhaps Ruin was allowing him to try for another day.
Either way, he dropped the dagger on the stone disk and walked away, dissonant and stooped.

Ganximei awoke with a blood curdling scream. Sitting upright and grasping at the air. It took her a moment to figure out just where she was.
It was over. Thankfully over.
Scrambling to her feet, she took the jeweled dagger and placed it on the Prey podium before quickly exiting.

Unlike some, he woke up without making a sound, but he still heard the echo of the figure’s footsteps as they walked away with his Heart. Ikait stared down. Had that been a dream? An illusion? Or was this the illusion? He ambled to his feet with arms swinging before walking toward the new plaques. His gaze switched between the two before he reluctantly placed his dagger on the prey pedestal.

He'd been trying to say something to her, but the words hadn't formed properly.
And now he couldn't remember what they were.
He lay on the ground, in the shadow of the statue, and he tried desperately to remember what he'd said to her, even though he knew the words had no meaning.
Nothing came. Surely he hadn't said anything at all. Yeah. Nothing.
Slowly, creakily, with his hand pressed to his chest, he made his way to the pedestals, and he read the inscriptions with bleary eyes.
There wasn't even a choice to make. He didn't want this knife any more. He dropped it onto the prey podium and stumbled half-blindly for the door.
ReDawn held the bag with tight hands, knowing what was inside. Even now he could almost feel the thump thump thump.
He bent and read the plaque, frowning at the words. he did not want to return his dagger there... but there was no choice. His fate was already chosen by the goddess.
"You can not escape forever."
"Next time, I'll just have to be stronger." he would not remain prey. He placed the dagger on the prey pedestal for now.

Remye returned to the room, realizing absently that something felt… Off, about this return. She couldn’t remember returning at all, only running and then fighting. She held the dagger, looking down, and then returned her gaze to the statues. She walked up to it quietly, glancing at the two blank podiums. She read the two podiums, her core churning as she read the Predator plaque.
Somehow she was losing her taste for sacrificial lambs.
Remye returned to the Prey podium and placed her dagger on it, stepping back. “Kill or be killed.” She murmured softly to no one in particular, looking down slightly. Then she turned, starting to walk out. “Some lives aren’t worth the sacrifice.” She remarked, before exiting to the shrine. She’d collect her blessing and be on her way.

Andie returned to the statue, feeling very subdued. He read the plaque of the goddess then looked at the podiums and with a sigh, placed the dagger on the one where the plaque read Prey. He stared at it for a moment then straightened up and got a determined look on his face. It would not happen again. He would not fall. He would be stronger next time. Even if he would have to sacrifice for the greater good he would still be stronger. With those thoughts he nodded and left.

Klinail woke up screaming and sobbing with their hands wrapped tightly around the dagger given to them beforehand. What...what was that?
They weren't sure, but it took them a long while before even thinking about collecting themselves were possible. They cautiously walked up the statue and podiums to see what they read, praying it was nothing like the code and notes. And thank heavens they were.
However, the words labeling the plaques made them swallow in anxiety.
Prey. They were the prey just now weren't they?
The dagger went to the Prey podium.

Lectoa woke up with a whimper, a hand over her Heart. "Please tell me that wasn't real," she muttered. Well, she was here, right? It couldn't be real. That was what she told herself when she held onto the dagger and stood between the two pedestals. She looked at the statue, then back at the pedestals.
Well, it was obvious right? She put the dagger back to the prey podium.

A scream sounded as Coyote awoke, hands scrambling at her chest before she scrambled up and away from where she'd woken up, not stopping until her back ht the base of the statue of the goddess.
She jerked around, impossibly wide eyes staring up before she looked back towards the dagger she'd dropped in her panic.
In a rush she scooped it back up, holding it to her chest for a moment as if expecting something to come after her, but when nothing happened she got to her feet.
There were only two podiums this time, and she dropped the dagger on the one marked prey before hurrying away. She didn't want to be there naymore. Not in the shadow of the goddesses.

When Lliote returned his Goddess was no longer there, but her statue was. Her plaque read: The Task is complete. Eat or be eaten, predator or prey. Return your Dagger to where it belongs.. He walked towards the respective podiums and placed his dagger where it belonged: Predator.
He hoped he had brought honor to his Goddess with this.
