I want to see if there's anybody out here that will agree with me, as unlikely as it seems. I'm having a bit of trouble with my personal life with certain people disagreeing with me on many things, one being technology.

First off, I know not everyone sees the world I do. To put it simply, I have a brain the works very differently than other people. Call it Asperger's if you want, but I'm just going to leave it there.

Now when I was a kid, I was really interested in technology and the new advancements in such. I wanted to have the latest in everything, be it the new game console or whatnot. I feel like I was that way up until a couple years ago. I'm 20 now.

In short, I personally feel like there was a point in the mid 2000's where technology and people reached a peak. Technology was amazing: perfectly styled, time and energy efficient, and able to do exactly what we NEEDED it to do. My personal example is the LG Chocolate phone, which I had and has unfortunately been rendered useless. Certain people in my life and society now feel I should get a smartphone now. What they feel has happened is that I've changed so much from being someone who was so interested in the latest technology to someone who is so ignorant and stuck in the olden days, but I just don't see the progress of technology nowadays as being beneficial to our society anymore. Technology isn't getting better, it's just getting more advanced, and that's not necessarily a good thing in my opinion.

When I'm looking for something, I'm looking to fulfill a purpose. With a phone, I'm looking for something that I can use to call, text, and check the time, and it's cool with me if it can take the occasional picture. When shopping for a phone, I'M SHOPPING FOR A PHONE, NOT A PDA. For those of you that don't know that a Personal Digital Assistant, and it is meant to assist you in organizing your life. Smartphones are not phones, they are in fact PDA's with the power to do absolutely everything from organize your personal life in mere seconds to making farting noises (yes I'm sure there's an app for that and yes that is the extent of human ingenuity).

So Siri can answer almost any question you ask her. So what? In the hands of my 13 year old brother, that means "Is my brother gay?" and expecting an answer.

Aside from that, it just comes down to the little things. When I text a message, for instance, I want to know the phone will send the words I want, not assume I want to ask my mom perverted things, earning me a place upon the shameless pages on DamnUAutocorrect.com. Also, this may be overthinking, but I don't want to be related in any way to the ditzy high school girl with her smartphone out, constantly taking duckface pictures of her and her friends and tweeting them over and over again, not using correct grammar, instead of having a nice conversation with her friends like PEOPLE. A smartphone in my opinion is another step in being related to something that pathetic (If you are a young lady in high school, I'm sorry). On top of everything, I've mentioned this, but smartphones just come with 10,000 things I JUST DONT NEED. I say this and everyone's like "Well just don't buy the things you don't want", but it already COMES with things I don't want! Again, I just want a phone I can communicate with, nothing more. I have a perfectly good computer for surfing the internet with a much bigger screen and better resolution than the phone, what would I need the phone for?

"But wouldn't it be nice if there's something you want to check right quick and you know you have internet conveniently on your phone?"

Yes, but my memory's not THAT bad. I can remember until I get home. I have never been in a situation where I absolutely NEED internet on my phone (save for the odd recommendation of a song or music video).

Sorry for rambling, but technology has just become too advanced for us in my opinion. I'd just like to figure out if I really am just an ignorant arse or if my claims are solid. If you have a smartphone, I'm not putting you down. If you have found a need for it, bless you. I just haven't found it yet. Tell me what you think, I'm open to all opinions and I'll likely respond. Thanks.

I'm the same way, as a kid I wanted/had the latest in consoles and phones now I'm just well as Ron White says... third generation don't give a ********.
All the phones look the same and the newer consoles are starting to turn that way too.

Well there is the saying if it isn't broken, don't fix it. If we've already accomplished everything that we need, doesn't it make sense to achieve for things that we want, primarily entertainment and convenience related? Albeit, there are MANY things that people want that are just f***ing stupid. Call me cynical, but do normal human beings address the issues you are pointing out? Not really, most of them are content with posting a picture of whatever it is their about to put in their mouths on Instagram and the like. Honestly, I don't give a damn. Technology is merely a tool to be used at my discretion and discarded if it can't do the job.

Welcome to the Generational Gap.

I can see where you're coming from, and I can agree with everything, but the concept of it all is just too pulpy for me to hate. Just a mere 3 decades ago all of this was pure sci-fi guff, imagine telling someone about an iPad 2*, "A device that can hold and play an eon of music; no matter what media format. A device that can play, hold, and broadcast weeks, MONTHS of video of any kind. A device that allows one to communicate on multiple networks of interconnected devices of equal, lower, and superior designs; all of which are billions strong. I have something that far surpasses your computing powers from now until, at the very least, a decade. And this device fits in your hand, uses less electricty in a decade than a refridgerator does in a month**, and costs less than 5 new films on VHS."

*iPad 2 64GB with 2 year contract
**if charged to completion every two days

Of course it isn't a phone, but, correctly, according to you we aren't alking about phones.

Just go with TracFone: a Kyocera K 126C or LG100c may be the phone you're looking for.

To each their own.

I seem to have lost the point of voicing disagreements if people are gonna be struck down for mere differences in thinking.
Regardless, this isn't good.

mony (and seemingly most) people in this world feel the need to be entertained everywhere they go. entertainment is the time waster which people mesmerize themselves with, its like being brain washed, most dont use technology for the sake of learning. just games, music & videos.

the psychology of the downside affects of technology on most of humanity is very disappointing. as most seek entertainment, not knowledge or wisdom.

made for people who want an organizer mixed with a phone and the capability to look up any information they need all in one package is a matter of preference and can prove to be essential based on the individuals who use the technology.

honestly, i think this world has too many options for entertainment, but its all about money. businesses and corporations know that people LOVE entertainment. when it comes to entertainment, people always want more, always want whats new or whats better. knowledge, wisdom... who needs that! entertainment is they "key to happiness" and the ideal way to gain a sense of achievement.

certainly i have not included all the variables, not to say there arent those who enjoy gaming and still understand that real life achievements are the only ones that matter. nor that there arent those who enjoy gaming and still seek knowledge & wisdom. but as far as ive seen, wisdom is a dying quality of humanity. many actually dont understand the significant differences between knowledge & wisdom. the greatest examples of wisdom that most people see, are from characters in shows or movies.

getting off subject. i dont like texting, i dont care for talking on the phone much as it is but if i have a phone, i only need a phone, nothing more. too many people rely on technology to organize their lives and to entertain their minds, but if most of those people were blind... how would they do it?

a blind person is likely to have more wisdom than any of them. what does that say about humanity.
