Name: Taye Lumière Nickname: Monkichi (At home, by his sister and adoptive father.) Age: 20 Birthday: July 28th Sign: Leo Gemstone: Peridot Blood Type: O- Fav. Food: Sandwiches Hated Food: Anything that's alive when you eat it, like raw oysters and sea cucumbers School: Destiny City University (Pre-Med Program) Hobbies: Astrology -- His interest in astrology started, because his mother was a huge astrology buff with tons of books, like Linda Goodman's Love Signs: A New Approach to the Human Heart and Astrology, Karma and Transformation: The Inner Dimensions of the Birth Chart, and she would tell him about them as bedtime stories. His favorite part of astrology is the stories the signs have. He also finds it relaxing to make charts to track the signs. He is superstitious, so he does put stock in it. However, he reads newspaper horoscopes and like primarily for entertainment purposes, because he does not think the astrologers writing them have enough information to make an accurate prediction, since they're only covering everyone's sun signs. When he is looking for advice about the future, he is most likely to make his own chart to draw information from. He isn't the sort of person to shove his interests down other people's throats, but if someone asked him to read his/hers, he not only would, but it would become a one way ticket to Taye's Astrological Forecast complete with, "Oh, my God! Mercury is in retrograde!" warnings. He has also managed booths for fundraisers and festivals where he tells people what can gleam about them based on what information they give him. Being an Otomen -- Few people know that deep inside, he is a huge nerd. Even fewer know that he isn't exactly a run-of-the-mill nerd either. Sure, he likes Star Wars, Star Trek, sci-fi and fantasy novels, anime/manga/comics, video games, and ogling garage kits, but what really gets his heart beating with excitement is waiting for the new issues of Nakayoshi and BetsuHana to come out, majokko series, and reading the kind of trashy romance you find in the airport's gift store. The reason so few people he knows personally know this is, because he wants very badly to be seen as manly and he feels that loving cute things will jeopardize that. However, when he doesn't think anyone he knows will find out, he'll gush openly about what he likes. For example, he has a blog where he reviews cute media under a pen name and he attends conventions dedicated to cute things in full costume. Truth is, he really is a hopeless romantic at heart. He'd like to find a girl he could be that knight in shining armor for. Hospital Volunteerism -- He began volunteering as a candy striper for two reasons. One was for extra credit in a course and the other was because he was curious about what the doctors, surgeons, nurses, etc. actually did, since he wanted to become a doctor, himself. Whenever he had a chance, he would ask them how they got the jobs they currently have. Eventually, he grew to enjoy it in earnest, so now, he continues to do it in his free time. He enjoys helping the hospital staff, reassuring the patients and their loved ones, and socializing with his fellow volunteers. Virtues: Friendly -- He is outgoing, loyal, and affectionate. He makes friends easily, because he is willing to associate with people others won't, because others will judge them by their reputation, even if they don't deserve it. When he gives them his word, he keeps it. He'll do anything in his power to support his friends. The chances of him forsaking them are null. Betrayal is something that would crush him. Studious -- Since his birth parents were and his adoptive father is big on academics, he is encouraged to study and use his knowledge on an everyday basis. Like if someone gets a cut, he wouldn't be, like, "It'll scab up, eventually," he'd disinfect it and try to stop the bleeding, because that was what he learned from his studies. He doesn't believe there is anything not worth knowing. Even if the subject isn't something that interests him, he makes a point to study it, anyway, because that knowledge may come in use in the future. Resourceful -- He makes the most of what is available to him. Just because he doesn't have the best tools for a job doesn't mean he can't do it. Sure, he'd rather have a hammer, flathead screwdriver, and welding torch, but a rock, a butter knife, and duct tape will do in a pinch. Flaws: Diffident -- While he is able to put his faith into someone else and become a loyal, trustworthy follower, he does not have that same faith or trust in himself. He is modest and puts himself down, because he lacks self-confidence. He fishes for compliments, because he needs validation from other people that what he's doing is right. He is fatalistic. He has a compatibilistic view of fatalism. He believes in free will, but he also believes that the future is set in stone. In other words, he does not believe his actions are the most important factor for what happens to him. He thinks the actions of others are more important and that luck is most important of all. Since he can't figure out what luck has in store for him, he cares especially about the actions, thoughts, etc. of other people. Sometimes, he ends up in for want of a nail situations and he begins to doubt if anything he's doing is worth it, since they weren't able to stop the source of the problem. If they weren't able to stop that, then he thinks whatever it leads to will happen eventually. In those moments, he thinks that it might be better and easier to let whatever happens to happen than to delay the inevitable. He seeks encouragement most in times like these, because in his opinion, if things were really hopeless, then he wouldn't be able to get anyone to give him any. If he can, then there must be a way out he's overlooking. Pushover -- He does what he thinks is expected of him regardless of whether or not he actually wants to. He does this, because he genuinely wants to be liked and make people happy. For example, when his friend comes to him sobbing over a bad break-up, he gives him a pat on the back and tells him everything's going to be all right, even if he was freaking out about something similar the day before. He's easily manipulated. If someone wanted him to do him/her a favor, something as simple as a slap on the back and a, "Cheer up!" can be enough to get on his good side. If someone wanted him out of his/her way, telling him pessimistic things can drive him deep into a downward spiral. Neurotic -- He worries excessively about himself and the people he cares about. For any given scenario, he can think of at least one unfortunate outcome and he isn't shy about sharing what these are either. When disaster is averted or a problem is solved, he'll be overjoyed. It won't last long, because he'll find something else to worry about and the cycle will begin anew. There are two reasons for this. The first is that he has troubles dealing with loss. He has no reason to believe that when someone leaves that they're guaranteed to come back. Because of this, he feels the need to stack the deck. The second is that he does not feel worthy of his family. For example, his adoptive father is a retired doctor who currently illustrates children's books. He is a loving man who is always willing to give his son great big hugs, atta boys, and shower him with nicknames. He encourages him to do his best. He is also incredibly critical of him. If he was ever NEET, he would never kick him out of house. No, not at all. Instead, he would ask him if he had plans, what are his plans, call him stupid if he didn't like his plans, suggest other plans, ask how he plans to make his plans come to fruition, and when it was time for dessert, everyone would get an ice cream sundae in a bowl, except him. His sundae was in a shot glass. He would do this every day until he was not NEET. ⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫⧫He is fluent in Japanese, but he can only read and write kana, not kanji. Here're some examples: "テイ" is "Taye" and "リューミエール" is "Lumière" is katakana, while "根来" is "Negoro" is kanji. That's actually the only thing he can consistently write and read in kanji. He thinks furigana is a godsend, because of this. He knows French, but not well enough to say he's fluent. He can read and write it fine, but he's slow when it comes carrying conversations. He has pyrophobia. He's baptist. If anyone needs to know where he is Sunday morning, chances are, he's in church.

Hirotaka Negoro.Hirotaka is Taye's late father. Susan Negoro (née Whitehead).Susan is Taye's late mother. Chike-Ndukwe was a long time friend of hers. Chike-Ndukwe Lumière.Chike-Ndukwe is Taye's adoptive father. While he is loving, affectionate man, who isn't afraid of expressing his feelings, he is also strict and critical. He also has an assortment of quirks. He seriously has contracts he makes his children sign with information about house rules, curfews, consequences, etc. His adult children don't worry about these, but Taylor definitely does. It is typical for him to randomly quiz his children about what they were supposed to be studying. It's also normal for him to start singing and/or dancing, because something reminded him of a song and/or dance. Damn near everything does. He also likes like talking about new things he learned that day. He has a habit of calling people exclusively by their nicknames. Charlotte is Heruba, Taye is Monkichi, Taylor is Hedgehog, and Damian is Dog Boy. Taye routinely forgets his mother's name because of this. He loves, in no particular order, art, science, and food. He is a retired oncologist. He now works as a children's book illustrator. Charlotte Lumière (née Kiprotich).Charlotte is Taye's adoptive mother. She isn't a touchy, feely person and she generally stays out of her children's emotional lives. Taye doesn't find her to be an easy person to talk to, so he usually doesn't. He'd describe her as an ice queen. Charlotte works as a dog trainer. Since she is a dog person, this is definitely her dream job. She mostly trains police dogs. Charlotte owns five dogs, one toy poodle and four standard poodles. Pochitoro is a black toy poodle and the only male she owns. Her other four dogs are standard poodles. Pudding is parti-colored, Koeksister -- She usually calls her Cookie. -- is cafe-au-lait, Chocolate is brown, and Vanilla is white. Pudding, Koeksister, Chocolate, and Vanilla are remnants of Charlotte's dog breeding days. She used to breed black poodles and Chocolate was her breeding b***h. When she got older, she retired her from breeding and had her spayed. Pudding, Koeksister, and Vanilla were gifts from her fellow poodle breeders. They're not show quality, so they've been spayed as well. They're well behaved, but they have tons of energy. Chocolate is the most laid back of the bunch and she's able to resist her natural inclination to run after every little thing that interests her. The other three, on the contrary, will bolt after anything that catches their fancy, like squirrels or birds, unless they're ordered not to. They're also fairly independent. Sure, they love being pet, but they don't particularly want to cuddle or crawl into bed with anyone. They also get along with children and other dogs. However, they must be ordered not to harass other animals, like cats. Charlotte didn't plan to get any more dogs, but when she saw Pochitoro on Petfinder put up by a poodle rescue, she just had to get him. The little schnookums needed her. He has epilepsy, but he has responded well to medication. His personality is similar to that of her other dogs in that he is well behaved, energetic, and will go after anything that piques his curiosity. Unlike them, he is definitely a lap dog. He really likes cuddling and being with people. He isn't so good with children, though. He has a low stress threshold and will whine or bite when under duress. Charlotte's own dogs are well trained. They can respond to basic commands and do simple tricks. Her standard poodles are also trained as gun dogs. It works out well, because her step-son is an avid hunter and her husband is great at cooking fresh meat. Taye loves dogs as much as the next person -- heck, it'd be safe to say he loves them even more than the average person. He has oodles of Afro Ken and Cinnamoroll merchandise, thinks Old Yeller and Sounder are up there on the tearjerker scale, and genuinely likes playing with Pochitoro. But he feels uncomfortable around the rest of his mother's dogs. Frankly, they scare the s**t out of him. But he's too afraid to admit this, because they're poodles. The least badass of dogs. He thinks they can sense his fear, because they don't listen to him. In actuality, while they may sense his fear, the actual reason they don't obey him is because he freaks out and forgets all the commands. P.S. They're not, "No! Stop!" As far as he's concerned, bitches be cray cray. Compounding Taye's fear of the dogs is how his mother asks him to walk them whenever she thinks it's convenient. He feels uncomfortable with both refusing and expressing his feelings. So, he ends up walking dogs he can't control and having a terrible time with them. Taylor Lumière (née Negoro).Taylor is Taye's younger sister. His honey bunch, sugar plum, pumpie umpy umpkin. His sweetie pie, cuppy cake, gum drop, snookum snookums. The apple of his eye. It goes without saying that he is incredibly protective of his little sister. People messing with her is his berserk button. He trusts her the most out of everyone he knows and is comfortable with talking to her about things he wouldn't with anyone else. There're still things he doesn't tell her, because he doesn't want to saddle her with too much and there're some things she just doesn't think she'll understand. Guy things. She's a juvenile delinquent. A bully. A bully of bullies, but a bully nevertheless. Most of the times she has been grounded has been because the school has had to call home about her being a bully. She loves animals. She has three pet hedgehogs, Sonic, Shadow, and Silver, and she volunteers at the animal shelter in her free time. She also has animal control and the shelter on speed dial, so she can report abused, stray, etc. animals on the go. She also likes conspiracy theories. She thinks they're entertaining and fun to discuss. She could read books and watch movies about them all day -- not to mention gush about her latest findings with her friends. She likes cooking too. Damian Lumière.Damian is Taye's older step-brother. Taye hasn't seen him much, so he doesn't know a lot about him. His few interactions with him left him with the impressions that he is a rather taciturn guy with a mighty fine sense of justice. He works as a detective for the Destiny City Police Department. He likes to hunt. He likes dogs too, hence his nickname, Dog Boy.

Wardrobe.Chi Chai Monchan cosplay kigurumi. a.k.a. crap suit. This was Taye's first full body cosplay suit and proof that you really do get what you paid for. He saw an artist offering suits at bargain basement prices and snapped up a slot. The only nice thing Taye can say about it is that it's on-model. Otherwise, it's a piece of s**t. The eye holes are placed in a spot that he can't reach, so he's blind when he puts it in; the tail drags on the ground; he can only put on and take off the suit with assistance; it's poorly ventilated, so he's prone to overheating. He doesn't know WTF to do with this. Maybe he could give it as a white elephant gift or something. He really wants to get a new Chi Chai Monchan cosplay kigurumi someday to replace this POS. He's planning to make or to buy kigurimi pajamas, but it's going to take a while, since he isn't good at sewing and he's currently unemployed. Monkichi cosplay kigurumi. This was Taye's second full body cosplay suit. It's his go-to cosplay. He did research on suit makers and saved up to buy a quality suit, so he could avoid the problems he had with his first one. It's easy to take on and off, because the head, arms, torso, and legs are all separate pieces and the tail is built over a wire, so it can be posed any way he wants. Wizard costume. This is Taye's nice, normal costume from the party store. The kind he wears to costume parties. It's really comfortable, he likes the star details on it, and most importantly, it's a wizard. Wizards are just awesome. Suits.Casual clothes. http://style-caralho.blogspot.com/2011/05/africa-street-fashion.html http://style-caralho.blogspot.com/2011/05/japanese-street-styles.html Window. It's a window big enough to jump through. Not that anyone has ever done that. Bed.There isn't much to say about Taye's bed. He sleeps in it. He usually doesn't make his bed, because he thinks it's dumb. It has a bajillion plushies on it, because they're cute, fuzzy, 'n' s**t. They also double as spare pillows. Side Table.Taye's side table most often has textbooks, homework, or the packaging leftover from late night snacks on it. He tries to clean it off every morning. Desk.Taye has a Dell running Windows 8. He knows eating and drinking at the computer is a big no-no, but it's just so convenient! So, he can often be seen eating food he only needs one hand for, while working away on the computer. The drawers are filled with knick-knacks, mostly packaging and instruction manuals from hardware and software. There is also furoku from the magazines he reads. He's sure he'll find something to do with all those badges, stationery, bags, etc. The chair can roll around, which makes it the perfect spot to sit and get things from the bookcase. Bookcase. The bookcase is full of textbooks, astrology books, manga, volumes of Nakayoshi and BetsuHana, doujinshi, and sci-fi, fantasy, and romance novels.

[SOLO] May Flowers
(OOC: This was originally written May 10th, 2013 for an alt civ contest.)
Today was going to be a good day. Taye had everything planned out. He liked to wait 'til most of his clothes were soiled before doing his laundry, so he could make the most of his time. Today, that had finally happened. He had put his last outfit into his laundry basket and gone into his room to change into his pajamas. His plan was to pre-treat and wash all of his clothes. Then, have them air dry on the line outside, since it was such a lovely spring day, after all. While he waited for them to dry, he'd go play videogames in his room. It sounded like the fixings of a perfect relaxing day to him.
Unfortunately for him, something disrupted his plan. His father told him he had terrible news. "Well, you see, there was this muskrat. I was certain I could remove its a**l sacs without incident, but I messed up, they busted, one thing led to another, and they somehow ended up in your laundry basket. Worry not. I'll be taking them to get cleaned, right now. On me. Because it's my fault. I'm sorry about that."
Taye had many things to say. "What were you doing with a muskrat inside the house?" This was asked with genuine curiosity. "How do a**l sacs get anywhere near laundry?" This had a bit of rage in it. He didn't see any intuitive way of linking those two together. If anything, those two things of all of the things in the world should be kept separated.
"Oh, that! Well, you see, that really is of no consequence now. I was planning to make it for dinner and I was pretty sure you're supposed to take those out before you do and the laundry room is on the way to the deep freeze. I've done it before and it turned out fine. It was just this one time I messed up. I'm sorry. If you need any clean clothes, feel free to take any of mine. Please. I just feel horrible. I really should get going now."
Taye heaved a frustrated sigh. He appreciated his father's offer, but there was a two foot height difference between them, so he doubted anything of his would even fit.
He headed into his father's room and into the closet. Just as he expected, most of the clothes there wouldn't fit him. They were just too small. He sifted through hangers upon hangers of shirts, shorts, pants, and the like before coming upon something that, while hideous, looked like it had a chance of fitting him. It was a blue, button-up Hawaiian shirt with a pineapple and solid white hibiscus print. When he put it on, he could tell it was far too big for him. It went well below his waist and he had to roll up the sleeves, so they wouldn't go over his hands. He wondered what this was even doing here. Even accounting for shrinkage of the spine, there was no way his father ever could've fit this in life. Unless he wore it as a dress or a tunic. He wouldn't put it past the man to do so.
There was a matching pair of pants too. They would be pants on his father, anyway. On him, they were definitely shorts.
Now that he had a shirt and shorts on, he went into his room to put away his pajamas and put on some white socks and blue gym shoes.
After that, he walked outside. Before he could take a couple of steps, his mother called for him. "Taye, since you're going out, could you take the dogs for a walk?"
He looked back at her and saw her holding the leashes to four excited poodles. He very badly wanted to say no, but he couldn't work up the nerve to do so. "Yes, it's fine."
After this, he began walking around the block. He didn't feel good. Nothing had went as he planned. He had wanted to have a nice, relaxing day. Instead, he was out and about looking like a veritable fruitbowl, walking these hellhounds. These surprisingly well behaved devil's dogs. They actually hadn't done anything bad, yet. They were just looking around and sniffing at flowers and grass. He could understand their curiosity. It felt like it had been ages before he saw anything green around.
While they walked, he began naming every plant he recognized as if the dogs could understand him. "That's a dandelion. That's clover. I can't tell if it's red or white without the flowers. That's an iris. Those're violets." He stopped at a bush and waited for them do their business. "This is a rose bush. I can't tell what kind, though. Maybe a dog rose?"
After that, he went back home. He was actually glad he took that walk. He really did feel better, afterward. Maybe it was the opportunity to see all the flowers. Or maybe it was because the dogs were actually incredibly adorable when they weren't misbehaving. Either way, he was grateful for it.
