This Quest is for Takoda who wishes to be a Monk.

Both day and night had come and gone since Jacinthus had left. Afternoon was well on its way when a messenger, a youngling from the Leaf Tribe arrived, bearing a letter and strict instructions:
”… I was told that this message is to be given directly to the Shifter, Takoda.” He murmured, glancing between Jacinthus’ loved ones. ”The sister is not to see it.”

[Jacinthus lost several arrows and his bow was destroyed in combat. Several, regenerated mages akin to the ones from Takoda’s first Class Quest are still lurking in the area.
Respond to the prompt in solo form, however you see fit. You may refer to Jacinthus’ quest if you wish, but it is not required. The Quest can be found here.]

The Message

A day and a half slipped by, or rather dragged by as the shifter and leaf tribe member were forced to be civil to each other. It was awkward, uncomfortable....but could of been worse. She could of been beating him to death with that deadly looking hammer of hers. Instead Takoda was left by himself for large amounts of time as his lovers sister would go and hunt for their meals. Though the shifter had offered to help his offer was rejected perhaps a bit too forceably by Keilana and so Takoda was left behind trying to make himself useful in other ways.

It had been difficult, for he knew he could travel to the forest...and gather food there, and healing remedies and plants, another part of him...wished to go visit but worried about missing Jacinthus's return so he was determined to stay close home and still make himself useful.

After several hours of ...wandering the circumference of the homestead he noticed the dry grass and ...realized it would make make for good weaving material, so after awkwardly picking grass and putting it in a heap beside him the shifter sat cross legged trying to make new baskets for them all to keep their stuff in or dried foods.

This left Takoda in his thoughts, wondering where Jacinthus was if he was okay...and replaying every horrible thing his imagination could come up with tramatizing the poor shifter even though none of it was real. Takoda was still deep in his ..morbid thoughts when a messenger appeared, startling the poor man and was promptly handed a note before the boy wandered away.

Takoda barely any time to allow his heart to stop thudding in his throat to absorb the fact he needed to refocus and try to be more productive. The basket he had been working on...was well..rather ruined and that his new lover was gone on some grand quest only made him sloppy and unfocused as well apparently easy to sneak up on. Note in hand he stared at it...wondering what could be so..important that the tribes would send a messenger?

More worrying, what if they had discovered he was living in Tale with a leaf tribe member? They were now throwing him out of the tribe for entirely new reasons?? The shifter unfortunately had a bad habit of jumping to conclusions. When he had been given his first task, he had thought along the same lines as now, although for entirely different reasons and he had been proven wrong. Taking a breath he looked at the note before finally going ahead to read it.

After a quiet moment or two Takoda sat staring blankly at the paper in hs hands. It was a note declaring that he not tell Keilana and that he needed to face a trial of his own. At first Takoda wasn't going to go, too worried about leaving without telling Jacinthus but as the hours dragged on he would chew on his lower lip and re-read the note. He was fortunate enough that Keilana was out foraging so he didn't have to be super secretive about anything just yet.

It said he had to follow a trail of smoke and retrieve something his love had lost. It was the word 'love' that put him on edge. Had something happened to Jacinthus? Did someone know more about what was going on than they were letting on? There were so many questions and hardly any answers, only a piece of paper telling him that he needed to follow smoke and find red trees. After much deliberation he went to gather his things, it was a good thing prior to this he had gone and gathered some of his things from home as well picked some roots and plants he could use as rations for his journey.

About to leave he paused wondering if he should leave a note for Keilana, as she already had a poor opinion of him as it was, so vanishing seemed like a bad idea. Chewing on his lower lip he quickly rummaged through his satchel finding a piece of paper and writing a quick note to the girl explaining he was going and not to worry and that he would be back soon. The last part was a bit of a white lie since he had no idea just how long he would take, but it would be the best he could do since the message he had received told him strictly not to tell Keilana what or where he was going.

Book in hand he hefted his satchel over his shoulder and gave one last small glance around the campsite, moving over to a rock he made sure his note was securely under it so it wouldn't blow away in the wind but easy to find. The shifter then started for the forest, head tilted towards the sky looking for smoke seeing only the smallest of plumes he had a feeling he had a ways to go, quickening his step he headed deeper into the forest.

Over the River...and through the woods...to where the red leaves grow

The soles of his feet were careful as they moved about the forest floor, the shifter for the hundredth time looking over the note to make sure he hadn't missed anything vital, searching for any cryptic message that may be in-between the lines. But he only came away with the basic up basic of meanings. He had to retrieve something his love had lost which could of been anything and the poor shifter was perhaps spending too much time scowering the forest floor to make sure he didn't miss anything.

His brain running through a list of possible things Jacinthus may of lost, any of which could be tiny...or large and he was so distracted that he almost missed the first obvious signs of danger..signs that a normal may pass as large creatures passing through. Dangerous ones.

Click...click.....click...

Takoda had to backtrack upon realization he missed something rather important. It took him a moment but after kneeling and upon closer inspection he could see plants crushed under heavy foot fall. Now the shifter was no hunter...he couldn't track a wild beast to save his life. But Takoda did notice the crushed vegetation... and glancing up he felt a shiver run across his spine. Why did it feel like something was watching him? Well...there were a lot of predatory bugs in the forest of Jahaur...it wouldn't be uncommon for one to be hunting him right this ....moment...

The shifter felt cold sweat on his skin just at the thought of the many large insects that prowled in the area. Takoda knew he had to be more careful from now on, else he he would have bigger things to worry about than the meaning behind his task. Looking around he noted foot prints and then he walked towards the tree they lead him too and scaled it.

click...click..click.....click...

About to balance himself on a sturdy branch he paused hearing the strangest of sounds...something that...nagged at the back of his skull rooted in a memory. Looking over his shoulder he jerked forward, having thought he had seen something in the tree directly across from him. A shake of the head and blink of the eyes revealed his mind playing tricks on him, but he could of sworn he had seen a hooded figure there. Part of him wanted to run, screamed for him to run...there was something dangerous in the words...and the Menzuri wasn't the culprit this time.

Swallowing he forced himself to move, pulling himself onto another branch so that he could get to the top of the tree. He couldn't see the smoke well from the ground, so he had to check his barrings and make sure he was heading in the right direction.

The breeze that teased his hair was refreshing to feel as he poked his head out of the branches and leaves to look to the sky. He spotted the trail of smoke almost instantly, it was to the east and...there...there he could see the start of the red leaves! His spirits rose and he had to hurry. Perhaps he would stick to the branches this time...as it would be easier to track this way than from the ground. The only disadvantage being that he couldn't 'find what his love lost' from the tree tops.

Takoda knew this meant he would have to move slowly, an idea he didn't like since he still could of sworn there were eyes on him. Switching to mid-branch height he tried to move so that he could scan the ground and be able to scan the sky at the same time. It was a bit awkward and sometimes he wondered if he was getting enough detail either way to make it worth his while.

But something caught his attention...the chattering of bugs...something drawn to the ground where a large sort of ...cave like den loomed. His heart stopped for a moment as he noticed the small bugs gathered around ..what looked like dried blood. Swallowing he climbed down to take a better look. It certainly looked as if a large animal had faced off with something and lost. he could see the paw marks in the soil..and foot prints. It looked as if the human had won as there were no signs of human remains.

click click click...click click..

The sound had come back fast and feirce and as Takoda turned to look over his shoulder he barely had enough time to react as a large ball of fire came hurtling towards him.

Whisperings of the heart...

An eruption of water sizzling and evaporating caused the young healer to stumble back. He had only barely managed to bring up a wall of water in time to save himself from a face full of fire. Though it seemed that the one who had thrown the flame wasn't about to introduce him or herself and was immediately launching more fire balls at him. Takoda tucked and rolled to the side though part of his clothing caught aflame.

A wave of his hand and the water put it out rather efficiently but soon he had to back peddle against another burst of flame this time using his other hand he gestured for a wall of rock to burst up from the ground. Offering cover for a moment for the shifter to gather his thoughts...or so he thought looking up as something caught his peripheral vision he saw the dark cloaked figure coming down at him, the start of fire in its....three digit bug like...hands.

It was react or erupt into flames, using both hands he threw them up at the one coming down on him, the fire barreling in front he sent a disc of earth up to meet them. Takoda was no mage, he was a healer, he didn't like to fight against others...even those who were attacking him. It felt like his magic was faltering as the fire spewed over and around the earth the fingers of flame coming for him as it tried to over power his own magic.

Courage of the heart is very rare...it holds a power when its there....

A memory of his mother telling him a story came to mind. She would have him outside on her lap, pointing out the stars and explain about how some of the most powerful of mages in the past healers specifically held a special power that kept them going...and made their magic stronger. Takoda could almost feel the warmth of his mother's hand against his back and it was enough to grant him the courage to face his foe.

The earth shifted suddenly and rapidly to form a casing around his body to protect him from the heat, though it was still hot it wouldn't blister is skin, he felt feet land solidly atop his shell. Takoda shifted and thrust upwards a wave of earth throwing the assailant off of him. Though he felt a renewed strength and resolve about him, he couldn't help but pale as the hood on his opponents head fell off to reveal the bug like....mandibles and eyes. It hissed at him from the ground, before it went to stand and dart up a tree.

It..was...wait! Takoda felt the sense that he had to follow it, like if he didn't something terrible would come to pass. Taking a step forward he realized it was heading the same direction as the smoke, eyes widening he KNEW he had to follow the creature. If Jacinthus was there he had to protect him!

~

Climbing the tree Takoda was faster in the tree's than on the ground, but he was still not as fast or agile of the one he pursued. Takoda wondered if he was nuts...to be chasing AFTER one of these bugs mages, but it felt like he was being lured into a trap, he felt his poor heart in his chest, he was growing weary his lungs burned for air and soon he realized his foe had...dissapeared from sight. Slowing down he ..scanned the tree's and saw not a single lead to where the mage had gone. Though..the smoke had become...very...thick in the sky.

The thing had lead him to his destination...and he was worried about that. Dropping slowly ...to the ground he spotted the remains of a fire. A large one..smoldering in the earth. Walking lightly towards it, he scanned the area nervously before calling forth some earth to smother it. It looked...as if there had been quite a battle around the area. The plant life had seen better days...some burnt to the ground whilst others were still lightly smoking. Watering the ones he could save as he walked, he knew this...shouldn't be so important...but he couldn't help himself.

Takoda froze when he spotted something very familiar laying in two distinct pieces on the ground. Rushing over to it he felt his hands shake as his fingers picked up the shafts of wood...that once had been a bow, a bow that belonged to Jacinthus. Kneeling he thought his heart would...stop. Was this what the quest had...meant? Jacinthus would NEVER part with his bow...which meant...something horrible must of happened to him. Panic began to set in as he clutched the broken weapon to his chest.

No..he ..couldn't let panic freeze him. If those mages...were still around they would make easy prey of him. Swallowing he retrieved his note and read it over quickly..right...he was suppose to take this...to the trees with red leaves. Jacinthus might be there...he had to hurry. Standing Takoda was quick to climb into the branches of the nearest tree scan for what direction he was to go...and then quickly made his way there.

Enlil sat at the place where the trees turn red, his back settled into the groove of a tree, waiting.

How long had it been since Jacinthus had left? Several hours, no doubt. It hadn't been too long and yet, things had changed.

The Leaf Tribesman grimaced, coughing harshly, a hand rising to his chest, as if it could steady his pounding heart. His fingertips brushed over the ashes of what had recently been a fire, the destruction of a small pile of strange, voodoo-like dolls, strangely shaped to resemble Takoda, Keilana, Jacinthus... various people living in both Jauhar and Tale. Enlil wasn't sure what exactly was going on, but he had an idea on how to fix it... and he desperately needed a Healer's help.

The man inhaled sharply, cleared his throat, took a long drink of water from a canteen at his side, made from a large gourd of some sort. He could only hope that Jacinthus' loved one would make it. Of course they had heard of the Shifter he had brought back, and while not everyone approved, perhaps he would be able to earn his keep, to prove himself worthy of making a life in Tale with a man of the Leaf Tribe.

Takoda had been clutching the bow to his chest as he hurried along, of course since being attacked he was more wary than he had before. The image of those strange hands...that face...caused him to cringe inwardly and shiver on the outside. He recalled those creatures from before when he was being trialed the first time to become a healer. The shifter was having a hard time reminding himself that he didn't need to be so afraid for he had been revealed that they were not real but they...looked ...real, it had attacked him...

Takoda was so busy with his thoughts he stumbled nearly dropping the bow in his hands before he righted himself. Pausing to make sure he didn't drop anything he realized there was someone nearby. Worried of another attack he would have to free a hand, and thus shifted the bow to one arm before he half turned out of fear to see who it was he had caught out of the corner of his eyes.

It was...not one of those bug men...for it was a a man from the leaf tribe, all fear drained out of him as he noticed his position a swell the strange voodoo like dolls that lay destroyed on the ground. They caused a shiver to run up his spine as he avoided looking at them entirely and refocused on the man before him. The man looked to be in pain and he instantly knew he would help him.

"A...are you alright ..?" The timid shifter asked as he proceeded to come closer the bow still clutched in crutch of his right arm as his other free hand reached out as it to steady himself. "You look hurt... I am a healer...if you don't mind me helping you."

The man wheezed in response to Takoda's question and couldn't help but laugh at his own, pitiful state.

"Yes... you're Jacinthus'... friend. Right?" Enlil smiled, but was quickly cut off by a short fit of coughs. He knew of the Shifter... and while anyone else might have wandered by the place, nobody else would have announced himself to be a healer... while carrying the Leaf Tribesman's bow.

The man was smart enough to put two and two together.

"I was hoping you'd make it." He cleared his throat harshly, hand against his chest. "Something dark..." His eyes flicked momentarily to the charred pile of dolls, "I'm not sure what it is, but it has been put into effect. I had thought..." He trailed off momentarily, again interrupted by a fit of coughing. "I thought destroying them would be enough, but something has already started..."

The man reached into his pocket, pulling out a thin slip of parchment. On it was a list:

Residue
Jauhar fungi - purple glow, blue stalk
Jauhar fungi - no glow, sprays yellow powder when squished
Chibale Island - earth near the roots of Aisha

The man handed the paper to Takoda. "These ingredients... I think that I can put together some sort of counter-curse." Again, he coughed. "...but I don't think that I can make it in time, in this state, especially because most of the ingredients are found in Jauhar, which I don't know very well."

He smiled weakly. "I am well-learned. I have been taught how different specimens from all over Tendaji work, but I've never put them into practice..." He cleared his throat. "...But it's the best option we have... and I don't know how much time. Whatever this is. I came down with it only hours after I destroyed my doll..." For the first time, he directly indicated the pile. "I'm worried that everyone will be struck by it, unless we can counteract the attack."

The man indicated the fragments of bow in Takoda's hands. "That is the most important piece. It was used in battle against those creatures and should contain some sort of residue that we can use against them."

He exhaled deeply, allowing himself a moment more to cough. He knew, it had to sound far-fetched, ridiculous... and yet here they were. How fortunate for him that a man from Jauhar would be at his disposal.

"Can you help me?"

There was a widened eye of surprise the mention of his lovers name only caused his heart to race a little in fear. No reason to jump to conclusions but ...how could he not? Takoda had found Jacinthus's bow..broken and abandoned, he was attacked by a weird bug man thing, and them came across this clearing ...that looked like only bad things could of occurred there. The nasty sort that were told in tales to scare young children, just glancing over the area was enough to feel the strange vibe in the air.

It was the type of energy that caused the hair on the back of your neck to rise, your skin to prickle as if someone was sending energy through it. Distracted a moment only by an offered piece of parchment, his fingers trembled slightly as he reached for it, taking it carefully in hand before turning it over to read it.

The fungi...they were familiar, on the rarer side..but certainly not unattainable. It was the last one that granted him the sharp intake of breath. Roots..of the great tree Aisha? Wasn't that the goddess of the Alkidikes? How in the moon's name was he going to get there? Never mind that...how was he going to get anywhere NEAR that tree without being speared, several times over.

"..A...is there no other root? It...it has to be from that tree?" He asked, his tone shaky, would healing not be enough to help the ailed? This..this was going to be suicide, but he didn't want people to die, not if there was a possible cure for the illness. Tucking the scrap away he knelt beside the leaf tribe man, pulling water from the air he went to apply it to his forehead, hoping to bring down the fever he could already see setting in.

"E...even if I can get it...I don't know how to get there...and it will take me several days I am sure to cross the forest to reach the ocean shore...then there is the matter of crossing..." He was rambling, he knew it but he could help it. "Will I have enough time? Those fungi are not impossible to find...but it will still take some searching..."

His thoughts turned to Jacinthus, if he had been here...and apparently alive, though maybe worse for wear. His loyalties felt strained, the shifter needed to make sure Jacinthus wasn't suffering from the same sickness. "I need time...I need to make preparations to go to the island.."

The man smiled helplessly at Takoda before inhaling sharply. ”I understand the need for preparations.” He seemed to be struggling more to speak. His lungs were being affected by more than a simple cough, it would appear. ”Unfortunately, I can't promise exactly how much of that you have.”

Enlil glanced at the smoldering pile of dolls. ”It was maybe 9 days ago that I burnt the first pile, which included my own doll. The last went up a day ago. I'm not sure everyone will be affected as I have been.” He coughed, grimaced, annoyed at the disruption. ”But know that you may very well be affected as well. Take what time you need... but be aware of what little time we may have.”

He smiled weakly, disheartened by the Shifter's uneasy state. Of course, he couldn't blame him. Enlil wouldn't mention that he wasn't even sure this plan would work. No sense in startling the man more than he already had been, lest the slight chance that this venture be worthless make them all lose their only hope.

”Unfortunately, yes, it must be from that tree. The Alkidike's sacred tree holds magical properties... things beyond our understanding. It is the only thing potent enough to give us any hope.” He extended his hands, hoping to take the most important bow fragments from Takoda's hands. ”I will keep that safe while you're gone... begin extracting what I can from it, to be prepared.”

He smiled, still weak, hoping to fill Takoda with the hope he himself did not have. ”Good luck.”

There was nothing worse than this feeling of helplessness, to see this man suffer was...too much. His healing talents felt like a joke when confronted with this unknown and bizarre sickness. The leaf tribe member though would soon realize that it was beyond the healers ability and moral conception to just leave him there. Sick or not he had to take him somewhere that he could at least have a roof over his head. But unsure about how the illness spread or how infectious it was meant he couldn't take him to a town so torn the healer bent down and went to gather the man with an arm to help him stand.

"I know ...you want me to hurry, but I can't leave you here..I'd be worrying about you the entire time I tried to get the task done. I am going to take you to my home. It's a little ways but at least if I know you have a roof under your head, I will worry a little less." Takoda explained as the poor man struggled to use what strength he had to help the man to his feet. "No arguing..." Takoda warned as he knew that the man would protest and fear him wasting time. But he had things to do..gathering the fungi in the forest wouldn't take long..probably half a day if he was lucky, but it was figuring how to get to Aisha...that was going to be the tricky part.

It was near nightfall by the time he got the man up and into his home. H the. Gave him what dried foods he had stored as well made sure to have fresh water available. Like a good healer should he had so e crushed up herbs and other plants he strictly instructed the man to take ever three times a day. One to keep the fever at bay, another to help with his breath and the third....a strong sleeping aid I case the coughing got to bad. Once situated he shouldered his now empty sack and ventured back to Tale. He had too many things he needed to prepare for and in his rush forgot to bring the broken bow with him.

First things first....to get more supplies...second to find those fungi and third....an akildike.

The man looked slightly startled and opened his mouth to reprimand Takoda. He had, after all, just finished explaining that they had so very little time. However, the Shifter cut him off with an abrupt "No arguing..." and Enlil couldn't help but grin, nodding his head in resignation.

Enlil thanked Takoda once they had reached his home, although he was growing anxious, knowing that he had severely slowed the Shifter down. He would be lying, of course, if he said he wasn't glad to be somewhere safe, with food.

"Bring those things back to me as quickly as you can." He instructed the Healer, having already taken the medicines, as Takoda had advised. "I will be ready for you."

As the Shifter left, Enlil prepared himself, beginning by steeping the broken fragments of the bow in a dark, steaming concoction... hoping to retrieve any of the creatures' lingering residues...

To make up for lost time ~

Takoda knew he had wasted precious precious time bringing that man to his home, but he couldn't bring himself to just ignore a man who was sick and in pain..it went against everything he was ever taught about helping and healing people. Still he now had to try and make up for lost time...and since he had an idea of where those two fungi lived in the forest he would do his best to make up the time lost.

The first one was fairly common, it was just that it was easier to find in the dark than it was in the day, lucky for him however the day had progressed to be late in the day and he was going to have to be ...quick about it if he didn't want to be hunted by the numerous bugs that were infiltrating the area. Rushing the poor shifter wasn't exactly use to running around so much, even in the tree's were he was home he felt that his body was already exhausted from the days events.

Chased by bug men, finding Jacinthus's broken bow, discovering the serious plague that was going to spread through the area if he didn't do something about it. Sighing, he wasn't sure WHY it had to be him, couldn't of anyone of found that man and been given the same task? Of..course his vast knowledge of the plants in the area probably meant it was his destiny to be given this difficult task.

Swallowing he slowed down enough to take a drink from his water skin before scanning the forest floor. That fungi shouldn't be too hard to find they generally lived near the base of the trees and were really more a parasite than anything since they lived off the roots and sometimes in the tree bard itself. The soft purple glow they emitted made them ideal for lighting dark entrances, but they couldn't be encouraged to grow in places not natural for it.

Spotting it he jumped down from the tree and knelt on the ground. There was a moment were he wondered how fresh the fungi had to be in order to be most potent and he actually wasn't entirely sure what medical properties this fungi's held that would be useful. His brain scrolled through the information he had stored away. In large doses this fungi's made people sick, but in controlled amounts it was good for numbing pain. Maybe that was the reason for it?

Scooping up what he could find in that spot he also realized he had no idea the amounts that would be required for this task. Sighing he favored on more than less after all he had lost enough time as it was and he couldn't afford having to double back. The fungi's filled the bag quickly though it was the second fungi he was having a hard time figuring out where to locate it.

A sphere...yellow in nature that puffed a yellow cloud of fumes? He tried to recall which one it was and that one...was a much harder one to find. He could scower the entire forest and be lucky if he came across one of them. In retrospect he would later discover that had been the easy task..compared to getting to the tree of Aisha. Still he needed all the ingredients and if he couldn't find them all...then it would be his fault if everyone gets sick and dies. He couldn't let that happen.

The glowing fungi tucked away he had to sit a moment and best deduce where this second fungi could be found. It normally lived deeper into the forest...closer to where the menzuri nested and that was dangerous on its own. Taking a deep breath he knew this second part wasn't even going to be the hardest one...for ..he was going to have to face the Alkidikes...and hopefully..convince them of what he so desperately needed.

The Second Fungi challange ~

With little time to waste the shifter moved through the upper branches quickly, branches catching him here and there when he wasn't careful enough but he couldn't chance slowing down. Night was falling...and the menzuri were more active at night, and he didn't really wish to come across one of those creature unless he absolutely had to.

Takoda chewed on his lower lip as he made his way through the tree tops, and when the tree's started to thin out so that it wasn't possible for him to jump from branch to branch he paused, lowering himself on a branch and taking in the area around him. The forest felt darker here...somehow despite the fewer trees and it was only when he looked up that he realized why. Countless webs, small and thin had been strewn between the trees, effectively filtering out light. The shifter felt his skin prickle as he realized that...he was probably in quite a bit of danger.

Webs that hadn't been taken care of properly or abandoned looked like silk threads drifting in the branches, so...he headed for those ones. Menzuri were neat freaks...and took good care of their webs so it was...likely these ones hadn't housed a Menzuri in a long time. Still...he couldn't help but flinch as a few sticky-less strands brushed up against his face. These brought back too many memories for him...that day in a half...where he had been stuck to one of these webs...the countless nightmares...daymares...he had been very young when it had occurred and he was lucky that his father had been able to find him before the Menzuri had decided to eat him.

Shivering Takoda wrapped his arms around himself as he cautiously moved to the base of the tree and searched the forest floor around it. Every sound caused him to freeze in place, and he was obsessed with checking to make sure that the crystal mounts that were in the area stayed where they were. The sensation though..that he was being watched...didn't quell and he was quick to move onto the next tree and search the base as well.

The longer he stayed in the area however the more attention he was drawing to himself, for one lone Menzuri was watching this creatures curious actions as it circled around the base of one tree and then to another. It was a den mother...and was guarding her eggs which the shifter was getting too close to.

The poor man didn't realize that the fungi he was looking for..were in fact nestled in amongst the menzuri eggs and when he spotted them...he should of known what those crystal spheres were. Warning bells had announced in his head as soon as he started in that direction. A crack...the sound of something heaving itself upwards....Takoda was broad swiped by a leg as the mother rose to defend its babies.

Having no chance to react he had stared at the menzuri almost frozen in fear, being knocked away had probably been the best thing in that situation for it brought him to his senses. The pain he felt in his side from being hit alerted him to the fact that this was no illusions..or dream it was very real and the menzuri was coming for him.

Rolling to the side, he used his earth magic to try and unstablize the creature as it advanced. It hardly slowed it down as it was able to right itself easily with its legs. Venomous fangs clicked as they looked eager to puncture themselves into Takoda's soft body. The menzuri was in fact starved, for it only fed on creatures that stumbled into its territory since it would not leave its eggs. Most creatures were smart enough to stay away from this area...the webbing...toxic, though Takoda was an exception apparently to the common sense.

Takoda threw himself to the side as another leg lashed out to knock him senseless, rolling he knew that he had to either retreat and try approaching this situation again...which was the smart thing to do, or make a mad attempt at grabbing the fungi now. If he had the time...he would of done the first idea, but since the night was falling..he didn't feel he had a choice. Takoda needed to get those fungi NOW, doubling back wasn't an option.

Summoning both water and dirt he combined them to make mud and then flung it in the creatures eyes. It gave a squeal as it hit and was forced to slow its advance though it was still madly flailing its legs as if in hopes to hit anything. Takoda took this chance to run for the nest, careful to not touch the eggs as he plucked the fnugi quickly.

He learned fast just how delicate the mushrooms were..and was forced to slow himself to avoid crushing more. The menzuri though recovered was now making loud clicks and sounds that surely was of irritation though it slowed when his hand looked as if it was reaching for an egg. Noting this, Takoda wondered if he was being suicidal, and touched the sphere. The menzuri stopped completely, looking...as if it was fidgeting trying to decide if it wanted to maul Takoda despite him being in and amongst its eggs or...wait until he moved slightly away.

It clicked and hissed in frustration as it didn't want to risk trampling the nest but really wanted to get that man out of it and preferably feed. Swallowing Takoda knew he was risking everything but he feared it may be the only way for him to escape here alive. Heart hammering in his chest he scooped up the sizable sphere and held it out in front of himself, it met with the reaction he was hoping for.

Rearing the giant creature hissed and rushed slightly forward and then backed up, obviously agitated but unwilling to risk its young in an attack. Trembling Takoda knew he was risking a lot on this gamble as he went about picking the mushrooms with one hand...the process was agonizingly slow and he had no idea just how long his bluff about harming the egg would last.

The menzuri though waited with infinite patience, its fangs clicking as it shifted to and fro obviously analyzing the situation, trying to figure a way to attack him without risking the egg. Looking up as he finally had enough of the mushrooms he straightened causing the menzuri to hiss again, chewing on his lip he took a step away from the nest..careful to make sure that his foot didn't come down on one of the many eggs as he slowly made his way away from it. The beast followed his every steps though didn't attack as its gaze was fixated on the egg in his hand.

Once far enough away from its other babies the menzuri dared to advance closer, almost in swiping distance it seemed to be losing its patience with this game and Takoda could sense that....taking a deep breath he did the only thing he could think of..he threw the egg in his hand. It resulted in the desired effect, the creature gave a small shriek and followed after the egg with motherly devotion and the shifter...well he turned and fled.

He expected the menzuri to proceed after him, to hunt him down...and it did ..but only to the very edge of its territory...at that point it was unwilling to abandon its nest...and thus...retreated back to the heart and settled down once again to guard over its babies. Takoda though didn't stop running until he thought his lungs and heart would give out on him. Considering he had made off with only a few bruises and cuts..and he was damn lucky for it. Shivering he crouched down trying to catch his breath wishing for his mother...or father..for Jacinthus to wrap their arms around him and offer comfort.

But none of them were around, and the healer was forced to deal with his ordeal alone. Trembling he looked over the fungi that were in crutch of his left arm, some had gotten crushed by his running, but a good majority had managed to survive. Taking a deep breath to sooth his nerves, he knew he would have to take these some place safe...and the only place he could think of was back home....to Jacinthus and Keilana.

Straightening he hurried onwards to home, one day had already been used up...and he still had so much more to do.
