The Purpose of the Vale
This is a tribe founded by Wintershadow and Bird`s Eye View.
A curious mix of empathy and intolerance, the Vale is a tribe with a mission -- one to clean up damage to the swamplands, to extinguish what they consider 'unnatural' dangers, and to leave the place in a more comfortable state of harmony than it was when they found it.
What does this mean? It means that after a forest fire sweeps through and destroys a corner of the swamp, members of the Vale will follow, dragging away debris and fallen logs, shredding up the ash-covered earth to provide fertile new land, and aiding injured creatures. It also means that in the aftermath of a plague that wipes out a predator population, they might kill off prey to help keep the swamp in balance, or help deal with the sickly.
Their empathy is reserved for the swamp as a whole, not individual creatures inside of it, with only one exception -- the other members of their tribe. These are their family, more than anyone born of similar blood, and outsiders are greeted with frosty indifference. Their territory is marked clearly with a particular outcropping of red poppies that state danger. Those stepping beyond these danger signs might be greeted with threatening words, or even violence...

Joining the Tribe
It is no easy task to join the Vale. Unless you are born into it, strangers in their makeshift camps are viewed with frigid stares or outright hostility, making it very difficult to enter the fold.
Those interested in seeing what exists beyond those threats, the violence, those who wish to get into the makeshift homes overflowing with flowers and greenery, shared food and hunts, will have to prove their worth to a degree that is downright unfair. They might, perhaps, be able to help Vale members during one of their cleansings, and earn a slot. Otherwise, they will have to show some evidence of their dedication to Matope: must bring some kill that aids the balance, or someone they have aided back to health, must show their own gardens and growth, or their ability to aid in keeping other outsiders away, as well as their steadfast loyalty...
Any of these things, in an OOC note, will require an RP with one of the Tribe Elders. The form for signing up with be listed below.

Roles in the Tribe
Members of the Vale are separated into two distinctly different roles: Caretakers and Scouts.
Caretakers
These are members with a knack for fixing things, with an eye for imbalances in nature, with a talent for fresh growth and cultivating life. It is the job of Caretakers to clean up after the carnage: carrying in seeds to sprout new life in the aftermath of a forest fire, perhaps, or nursing wounded creatures back to life to keep their population together.
In a more domestic manner, Caretakers are also often the ones who cultivate the tribe's own food supplies, finding sources of berries or grasses or vegetables and helping them to flourish so that everyone has enough to eat. They might also tend to keeping the living space clean and tidy, to making sure that everyone gets their equal share and is comfortable in their living space.
Scouts
These are members with a knack for destruction and violence -- which, among members of the Vale, is not viewed as a bad thing. Scouts must be ruthless when the time comes, since they are not only in charge of keeping outsides off of Vale territory [often for their own good] but they must also cull populations when the need arises, to keep everything in balance.
In a more domestic manner, Scouts are hunters who bring in fresh meat to supplement whatever growth the Caretakers provide, and who patrol their camps to make sure that everything is safe and no predators come in to savage their people. They might also haul feuding Vale members apart -- because, after all, no society is without infighting.
Overlap
Naturally, the perfect Vale member is a combination of Caretaker and Scout, instead of exclusively one or the other. Duties will be assigned based on an interview with new members to determine where their skills lay, and will not be cruelly segmented.
Outsiblings
Outsiblings are members who have been accepted, either through friendship or through proving their worth, who have decided not to live in the Vale and help with its efforts. They receive a bundle of special flowers that they can carry to get them past the scouts and accepted into the Vale grounds when they like, but aren't full members.

Current Member List
Elders
Wintershadow and Bird's Eye View get the titles of 'head caretaker' and 'head scout' primarily because they are the founders of the tribe -- interested in keeping the swamp in balance, and working toward that goal.
This trio of does have been given the status of elder in order to get additional opinions on how the tribe will be run. As such, they will be involved in decisions regarding events, movements, dealing without outsiders, and accepting new tribe members.
It is always useful to have a Legendary at hand, but this is not the only reason Wood Spider gets status as 'elder' within the tribe. She is well-committed to the Vale's goals and purpose, and uniquely suited to helping with both.
Caretakers
Faith tends to a garden of herbs and flowers and has a knack for cultivating, even off season. She can create salves for the wounded and panacea for the ill, and would make an excellent caretaker/teacher of children while the parents continue their duties.
Guilt-ridden is not horribly skilled, but he has a perseverance that doesn't allow him to quit. He would be best in the brute cleaning up, any type of evacuating, carrying, and all-around go-to buck.
Haven has always kept a garden of his own, flourishing, and in the past it has been open to one and all. He still struggles, has issues with the Vale's exclusivity, and is likely to be more accepting of strangers than most, but understands the necessity of keepnig them out.
Heartstone is a bit of a bleeding heart. 'Home' and 'family' are important to her.Traveling the swamp with her father Wintershadow has taught her the valued side of communication and of love. She puts roots down where she goes in hopes of creating a safe haven for herself, and for others.
Honey Trap, Wood Spider's daughter, is very much like her mother -- sweet and social. Unlike Wood Spider, Honey Trap has a keen understanding of when to sever relationships when they turn from honey to vinegar, and knows how best to get people to do what she wants (which is often what she thinks they need). This proves useful when people who aren't quite cut out for the Vale attempt to stay within it.
Although Hivemind's idea of "help" can sometimes be frighteningly skewed, she has an innate understanding of group dynamics and the concept of a greater good. While she can be deeply unsettling and seems to show genuine love only towards her wasp, she is also at times startlingly profound.
Idlewild is very good at caring for small plants, planting seeds, and gathering things to help the tribe without hurting what she's taking from. She's not really a fighter and would prefer to slip quietly away into undergrowth instead of standing her ground.
Slip is most in her element when it comes to cleaning up after natural disasters, foraging, and making use of the remains of a hunt.
Although his appearance reeks of death, Macabre would never be one to pursue it. He is in tune to nature and is a little opposed to violence. He can forage and tend a garden very well though.
Night Tears brings in new plants to the destroyed areas, seeds carried in his tail. He tends to the wounded with the help of the swamp friends he has made.
Take the Sky is independent in her ways, not hesitating for a moment to delve into danger to protect what she can. Though she may be too serious for her own good she has a very caring nature, and has a deep love of cultivating land to see what beauty can be grown from any ground.
Trouble is a care-taker through-and-through; she couldn't hurt a fly. She always likes to keep herself busy, so most often helps tidy up/prepare new living spaces for the tribe.
Breath is meticulous in her work, liking to keep things orderly and clean with nothing out of place. Her ways are always just and equal, wanting to keep things balanced in the tribe.
Fern has taken a keen interest in vegetation of all types, the more colorful and exotic, the better. She has become excellent at identifying (and cultivating) what is good to eat, what most certainly isn't, and how much to consume of the most toxic plants in order to achieve the good effects while skipping on the poison. This has medicinal and recreational value.
Walking on Eggshells's light steps makes him uniquely suited to walking amongst the newly planted seeds and young sprouts. He carefully tends to young plants and makes sure that other kin, outsiders, do not trample them. He is also has a great range of knowledge about plants and how to use them to heal kin.
Scouts
Stare most often patrols both and border and the interior for things that are out of place or wrong. He may hunt occasionally if there is someone else to watch the boundaries, or may multitask, but protection and guarding against threats is are definitely his strong suits.
Ends-the-Chase is is a hunter and tracker, usually always alone, relying on hooves and teeth to kill his prey. He tends to talk down to most kin he meets and can be rather arrogant and surly. He probably wouldn't be in the tribe if not for his father Wintershadow, and his unquestionable skill as a hunter.
Firestarter will get a blurb here!
Very protective and caring, Greenleaf is the type of buck who would willingly put the tribe first before himself if needed. Along with his knowledge of the swamp and its vegetation, he is also of great help with tending those who are wounded and/or ill.
Rage Inside focuses on hunting, population control, muscling anything or anyone around and has got an interest in learning to grow things. He can also follow orders, with or with out eye rolling and grumbling.
Shed excels in killing overpopulation and keeping the tribe members bellies filled. He also has a knack for sorting out fights between tribemates.
Sing Out will get a blurb here.
This totoma does what he is told - he is easily directed muscle, for killing, carrying, moving, whatever the tribe may need. He enjoys hunting and killing, and will take to such tasks with relish.
Wild Hunt is well suited towards teaching and expressing ideals, but also in defending the borders. He also is known for passing the word out to people who might be good for the tribe.
Outsiblings
Anger is a Cage might be a scout, might be a proper member, if he could master his terror of open spaces. As it is, he's not much use and sticks to himself, but is a friend to the tribe.
Ever, as Wintershadow's cousin, is welcome within the boundaries. Well, at least, he won't be chased out if he comes around. 'Welcome' is a strong word...
Like her brother, Never has Outsibling status due to her blood ties to Wintershadow, and would certainly be drawn into the tribe if she ever wanted it.

Contests and Events
Caged Heart Babies!
A chance dalliance between Heartstone and a strange buck -- Anger is a Cage, who has since been accepted as an Outsibling member -- resulted in three lovely does and a buck, who are now being brought into the Vale as full-time members. However, as it stands now, only two of them have owners, leaving the buck and doe in the front open for a bit of a contest!
In order to win one of these two brown beauties, you simply have to fill out the form below, giving us name, personality, position, and what sort of role they would play in the tribe. As Heartstone's children, these kimeti [like most tribe offspring] will be accepted immediately into the fold, on merely the promise of future roles, as opposed to proving themselves.
The form is below; as a reminder, this contest is for the two in the front row. You can enter once for each.
The back two does, if you'd like inspiration, are named Firestarter and Sing Out.
A CONTEST ENTRY FOR THE [BUCK/DOE] Kimeti Name: This will be the final name so make it good! Personality: Please keep it at 2-3 sentences max, short is better. Scout or Caretaker: Members can be a bit of both, so if they're a mix, just tell us which is more descriptive of them. Role in Tribe: What would your kimeti do for the tribe / what sort of tasks would they bring to the table? Again, keep it brief!
This contest will end 11:59 PM EST on 12 November!

Join the tribe without RPing?
In addition, during this brief opening period, we will be accepting members without RPs. To get in on the tribe, we only ask that you justify why your kin [all are welcome, not just Kimeti!] would be a good fit, using the form below, which is basically the same as the entry form:
A NEW MEMBER LOOKING TO JOIN Kimeti Name: Namegoeshere Personality: Please keep it at 2-3 sentences max, short is better. Scout or Caretaker: Members can be a bit of both, so if they're a mix, just tell us which is more descriptive of them. Role in Tribe: What would your kimeti do for the tribe / what sort of tasks would they bring to the table? Again, keep it brief!
So long as your kin fits the mold, they should be accepted as easily as that!

A NEW MEMBER LOOKING TO JOIN Kimeti Name: Comfort Personality: Forever calm, generally inscrutable, with a smile that promises mercy and a tendency to make you require exactly that Scout or Caretaker: Scout Role in Tribe: With her eerie presence and intimidating demeanor (not to mention her swift and silent feet), Comfort is ideally suited to the task of Scout. She is not kind--she is just. She believes that it is better to get what one needs than what one wants, and the actions of the members of the Vale appeal to her "all is right with the world, and what isn't soon will be by my hoof" mentality. Her reserves of patience are seemingly never-ending, and she is fiercely protective of friends, family, and the helpless.
A NEW MEMBER LOOKING TO JOIN Kimeti Name: Hivemind Personality: All the cold-eyed stares of a wasp; all the innocence of a child; all the fearlessness of a bear; all the compassion of a loving mother. Scout or Caretaker: Caretaker Role in Tribe: Although Hivemind's idea of "help" can sometimes be frighteningly skewed--she was discovered immobilizing a rabbit to train an orphaned fox cub to hunt, oblivious to the shrieking of the prey--she has an innate understanding of group dynamics and the concept of a greater good. While she can be deeply unsettling and seems to show genuine love only towards her wasp, she is also at times startlingly profound.

A NEW MEMBER LOOKING TO JOIN Kimeti Name: Lurks Beneath (Slip) Personality: Objective, easy-going, devout (to the Swamp). A little odd, a little off, but is most content in the unbound Swamp. Scout or Caretaker: Both almost equally, with slight favor to Caretaker. Role in Tribe: Slip would be excellent in clean up after natural disasters, foraging and making use of the remains of a hunt.
A NEW MEMBER LOOKING TO JOIN Kimeti Name: Gift of Life (Faith) Personality: Calm in chaos, humble, optimistic. Rarely discouraged, she sets about her tasks with joy and purpose. Scout or Caretaker: More Caretaker than Scout. Role in Tribe: Faith tends to a garden of herbs and flowers and has a knack for cultivating, even off season. She can create salves for the wounded and panacea for the ill, and would make an excellent caretaker/teacher of children while the parents continue their duties.

A NEW MEMBER LOOKING TO JOIN Kimeti Name: Greenleaf Personality: Calm, wise, and a bit egotistical, with a great respect and appreciation for nature. Scout or Caretaker: Both; almost equally. But just slightly more so a scout than a caretaker. Role in Tribe: Born with the blood of a huntsman. He is fast, highly alert, and patient, which makes for an excellent scout. Very protective and cares greatly for his friends, Greenleaf would be the type of buck who would willingly put the tribe first before himself if needed (on extreme occasions). Along with his knowledge of the swamp and its vegetation, he would also be of great help with tending those who are wounded and/or ill.
A NEW MEMBER LOOKING TO JOIN Kimeti Name: Macabre Personality: Humble, curious and slightly territorial. A little weird but can be quite the charmer. Scout or Caretaker: Caretaker, but can also be a scout if needed ... or not on purpose. Role in Tribe: Although his appearance reeks of death, Macabre would never be one to pursue it. Being quite the opposite of his siblings, he is more in tune to nature and is a little opposed to violence. He can forage and tend a garden very well though. But due to his bad-or-just-weird stalking habits, he could also make for a good scout due to his feather light steps. He rarely ever gets caught.

A NEW MEMBER LOOKING TO JOIN Kimeti Name: a totoma Personality: Still very young, this totoma is boastful to cover his lack of achievement, embarrassed that he has not yet earned his name, and his pride is easily wounded. He can be very bitter and spiteful, and does not forgive easily. Despite all this, he is more a loyal follower than a confident leader, and would do best as part of a group. Scout or Caretaker: He is rather more suited to scout than caretaker. Role in Tribe: He enjoys hunting and killing, and will take to such tasks with relish. This totoma does what he is told - he is easily directed muscle, for killing, carrying, moving, whatever you may need. He may even learn some other skills eventually.
A CONTEST ENTRY FOR THE DOE Kimeti Name: Caterwaul Personality: Contrary to her name, she is no more prone to complaint than anyone else. She's a little bit irritable, a little rough around the edges, but has a good heart. Scout or Caretaker: Primarily caretaker. Role in Tribe: Mostly concerned with growing things, and doing so efficiently. In her free time, she experiments with plants to see what conditions are their perfect ideal. Good information to have when considering what plants to grow where.

A CONTEST ENTRY FOR THE BUCK Kimeti Name: Torchwood - "Scorch" Personality: A tough buck, He enjoys getting into the thick of rows to break them up, kicking out tresspassers, and anything that involves locking horns with someone else. He'd like to learn to mediate more fights but often gets frustrated, feeling that a good head but or a light thrashing solves problems faster talking. He has a couple of soft spots however, including a belief destined love. Scout or Caretaker: Torchwood's duties lean more toward being a Scout, though he has a small, secret Caretaking interest... Role in Tribe: Torchwood is a skull cracker. He patrols, breaks up fights, tosses out trespassers, and generally keeps the peace. He doesn't enjoy killing animals, even though it's for the good of Matope, though he tries to avoid having to go out hunting or on jobs that require slaughtering of animals. However he has no problems having to kill other Kin who threaten his family or his tribe. One to one of his favorite things to do (though he doesn't want to caught at it least it deminish his tough reputation) is to care for and grow the red poppy flowers that mark their territory, which he does near daily on his patrols.
